Sutton's a douche but i'll give him the benefit of the doubt on the hit...Erskine comes roaring and did his job smartly...but Sutton with a bomb to knock Johnny's bucket off...then Erskine with some shots that must have connected to open Sutton up.....DRAW.

Posted by The DZA on February 17, 2011 at 08:41 AM

Looks like a draw to me. Mind you Im still convinced the world is flat, so what do I know.

Face... meet... (as the legendary Dick Irvin used to say) ''Dasherboards''. Sutton got what he deserved, after a questionable hit. I'm just surprised that Erskine, being the much superior fighter... didn't absolutely destroy him, once it started.

Posted by scorp1on on February 17, 2011 at 06:16 AM

Draw. Both had some good shots and a mutual hug to end.

Posted by DARCY T on February 18, 2011 at 06:00 AM

i thought erskine was gonna kill sutton but sutton did quite well.he didnt lose for sure.both guys landed a couple...draw and gave it 5

Posted by Willy WILL on February 19, 2011 at 05:38 PM

Draw.. a cut doesn't win a fight.... They traded shots all fight long... Clear draw

Posted by totmacher on February 17, 2011 at 02:11 PM

Yeah Sutton barely Nudged him, Little overboard on the rolling around to pull the major call... If sutton wanted to lay him out he could have F'ed him up bad in that situation but didn't. Props for both fighters for making the call and answering. Both got solid blows in. If it wasn't for the cut I would give a super "slight" edge to Sutton. But a cut shows Erskine had to have got a solid connect.

Sutton W.

I hate Washington's announcers.

Posted by LA KING FANATIC on February 17, 2011 at 10:36 AM

Sutton ran him from behind, not like him Erskine stood up for his team mate and Sutton knew he had to. Lots of mutual respect here...Sutton paid for the hit, win Erskine

Posted by pepsigenerate on February 17, 2011 at 01:37 PM

erskine with the little more aggression for the win,to bad King and Parros didn,t collide.

Posted by cky10117 on February 17, 2011 at 04:32 AM

Sutton only received a minor for the check according to NHL.com was a slight bump and buddy embellished the shit out of it hoping for the major penalty. Erkskine still did the right thing and came to the aid of his teammate edge Erk

Posted by Caps44 on February 22, 2011 at 02:33 PM

Not a great fight, and Erskine didn't do everything he should have done to Sutton. I thought hits from behind were illegal in the league. I also didn't see what Erskine did to earn a misconduct. Sutton's hit on Hendricks crossed the line and should have earned him some games off the ice to reflect on his loss of self control.

Posted by __sbisa-Nr1 on February 17, 2011 at 07:27 AM

narrow victory is unfortunately Erskine...

Posted by johnnyrock555 on February 18, 2011 at 07:52 PM

I have no idea how Sutton got cut, I did not see any of Erskine's punches land that hard. The win goes to Erskine for being able to get Sutton back-stepping during the fight. As far as the hit is concerned, this is one of those situations where you have to question the actions of the guy that got hit. Where do you think that you are that you can keep your back to the action for that long? He spent a good three seconds in one space, back to the action, three feet from the boards. He is either trying to draw a penalty or his his head up is a#@. That does not excuse Sutton from hitting him and two minutes if not four or five were deserved, but Hendricks needs to look out for himself and keep moving when you are in such a precarious place.

Nice go for these 2 but it looks like Slutton got the worst of it. Ersky is one of those guys that is a lot like old school Gillies (Clark that is) when they used to say "Don't wake the sleeping giant". Well, Slutton found out the saying applies to Ersky also. He throws all his punches with bad intentions and he landed one flush and Sandy started bleeding like it was his time of the month. Winner Ersky in a relatively close one.

Posted by IMPEACH on February 18, 2011 at 01:28 PM

Erskine throws as hard as anyone in the league. He throws 'em like he's Joe Kocur or something. Sutton runs around alot and here he paid for it a bit.

Posted by staceyb on February 17, 2011 at 08:01 PM

Cheapshot Sutton, payback Erskine.

Posted by ahartnack on February 17, 2011 at 07:09 AM

' I am no professional hockey player but in my opinion they should know when hitting someone from behind can cause either pain or (serious) injury. In this case Sutton should have "nudged" the Capital instead of "driving" him to the boards. In any case W for 'Skin. '

I love seeing a Ducked get plucked

Posted by Ajaxechkin on February 20, 2011 at 02:01 PM

Blood = win Erskine

Posted by BrettB on February 17, 2011 at 10:30 AM

Johnny said enough of this and went after a non-call 5 minute penalty. I believe that last right cross required Sutton to hug and ask for forgiveness!

Posted by JBar595 on February 17, 2011 at 12:43 PM

The NHL officials are to blame as much as Erskine. Neither one of these clowns raise a hand indicating a penalty. only after the fight wa sit assessed. These guys were crap.

Posted by mudman55 on February 17, 2011 at 08:19 AM

I'm a John Erskine fan. Love that male-pattern baldness thing he has going on, too. He looks like an accountant, but he can throw. The hit was over the line, but not by much. Penalty, yes, but not enough to warrant a suspension or anything like that, IMO.

Posted by Spoonster on February 17, 2011 at 12:22 AM

I was going to give this a draw until I saw Sutton's left eye at the end. I guess at least one of those heavy rights from Erskine connected pretty squarely! To give Sutton some credit though, this was much closer than I thought it would be when I clicked on the link to watch it.

Posted by Sasky001 on February 17, 2011 at 12:17 AM

Sutton has always been a cheap player. No match for Erskine. Would have liked to see the fight continue because Sutton was in pain.

Posted by Juha82 on February 18, 2011 at 02:44 AM

Erskinbe with CLEAR WIN for landing more and cutting Sutton.

Posted by tattooedkingpin on February 17, 2011 at 01:13 AM

Hit wasnt that bad. Sutton could have really laid Hendricks out if that was his intent. Hendricks barely hit the boards. Erskine with the edge in the scrap.

Posted by bruins rule on February 17, 2011 at 07:46 AM

erskine gets the win in this fight.

Posted by Don Berry on February 17, 2011 at 05:39 PM

Man, pretty cheap hit there. Sutton held up pretty good in the fight though. Maybe a suspension for Sutton is in order. Edge to Erskine, perhaps the most under rated fighter NHL. He's a heavyweight!

Posted by Paul_from_NoVa on March 16, 2011 at 02:04 AM

Love Erskine cracking Sutton's nut open.

Posted by fernben8 on February 17, 2011 at 12:18 AM

That a boy Johnny...good team player. Not usually a dirty player but Sutton crossed the line. Erskine does a great job to send the message. You can see the respect at the end...nice. Edge Erskine.

Posted by Spazemunky on February 18, 2011 at 10:00 AM

bad hit, good retribution. win Erk.

Posted by xoptimuscrimex on February 17, 2011 at 12:45 AM

The hit wasnt that hard, but still cheap. Erskine is always standing up for his mates and I like that. Not a great fight but W Erskine for drawing blood. Doesnt it seem like he always loses his helmet?

Posted by tocchetblue on February 17, 2011 at 07:31 AM

Eskine is one tough cookie

Posted by GreatMurray on February 21, 2011 at 07:34 AM

Big Sutton is huge but not the best fighter. Should have been a two minute penalty. Erskine does a great job reminding Andy to play a little nicer. Another BAD instigator call. Erskine with the big win.

Posted by lescamil11 on February 17, 2011 at 03:01 PM

Was at this game, the boarding hit looked much worse than on TV, and even most Ducks fans knew it. The ref's hands originally didn't go up for it, and it was given only a boarding minor (not major) after Ovechkin pleaded his case (more to even out the instigator, I suppose). Good for Johnny standing up for his boy. Got the win, and deserved the win. I still think Sutton should have gotten the major for this one, even though Hendricks came back in the third period. He was dirty in Ottawa and is still dirty in Anaheim.

Posted by Big_Goon on February 17, 2011 at 10:50 AM

First, the NHL has to put an end to these type of hits period. 5 minutes and tossed from the game with a possible suspension will wake players up. I can understand if the hit is from an angle or the player suddenly rurning, but this was text book boarding. Thankfully Hendricks was not seriously hurt. Erskine charges in, took on the bigger Sutton and made him pay for the hit. Erskine spent 10 more minutes in the box than Sutton, again the NHL needs to wake the F up... Clear win for Erskine.

Posted by MACMAN214 on February 17, 2011 at 12:52 AM

Erskine made Sutton pay for the illegal hit from behind Fight not close.

Posted by b.t.wilson on February 17, 2011 at 12:30 AM

WOW i love erskine. very questionable hit, seemed like the cap was turning, but sutton should've let up for sure. erskine the great teammate, like always, gets in and takes care of business. i too thought that it was closer than i imagined it would be, especially reading a box score before i came here and seeing the instigator and misconduct, i thought erskine went and murdered someone. sutton did well, but erskine did weller. you could tell that erskine landed the one monster and felt that he had taken care of business sufficiently, and it ended. 7.

Posted by Detroit_Caps on February 17, 2011 at 06:39 AM

Erk cab throw with anyone this year, way out of Suttons league. And why the hell did he get a misconduct? Kick someones ass for a blindside hit into the board and you get the gate? Damn this league is run by a bunch of cowards

Posted by kevinator63 on February 18, 2011 at 09:24 AM

Sutton reaped his just desserts at the hand of Erskine. A borderline cheap shot calls for a moinor tune up. The mighty duck left the ice bleeding, but with no real damage. Those anaheim uniforms are the ugliest in the league too.

Posted by TAZDEVIL on February 17, 2011 at 10:35 PM

Win for Big Johnny E. The first few seconds of this fight were missed by the camera. John landed a flury of punishing hits before the camera crew caught up to him. One of those fights where you really had to be there. Sutton's blood was no accident, Big John went into that looking for it! The extra 10 minutes John got was maybe a little bit much. I guess they wanted him off the ice so he didnt pound any other challangers. The hug at the end was Sutton saying get me out of here and quick!

Posted by DanielleinDC on February 17, 2011 at 02:44 PM

Erskine drew blood. That cliinches it. And he never would have gone after Sutton had the refs called boarding on him. Good for him for standing up for Hendricks.

Posted by faceman on February 17, 2011 at 07:18 AM

Sutton's brow was cleaved in twain Probably all he'll have as a reminder not to do that, since the NHL needs people to get seriously hurt before they'll suspend for something

Posted by TommyGun29 on February 17, 2011 at 10:22 AM

ya gotta like Erskine...I always have since his junior days. He doesn't fight as often as he used to...doesn't have to now. He's turned into a decent dependable defenceman and here he showed he is still pretty good with the hands. Sutton is tough but that was a dirty hit and he deserved more of a beating. Edge to Johnny Erskine!!

Posted by Laytes29 on February 17, 2011 at 12:22 AM

Erskine with the win

Posted by ghjkfdhgfd on February 17, 2011 at 09:52 AM

Not bad, good job in Erskine for coming in. GJ on Sutton for actually fighting back lol

Posted by AZfromNJ on February 17, 2011 at 01:53 AM

Wow - I love Erskine he brings it in EVERY fight. These guys are throwing & landing bombs!! Erskine takes a huge right, how did he not go down.......but also lands 3-4 bombs of his own opening up Sutton. Erskine with close win....rate this one an 8!

Posted by moneybags on February 17, 2011 at 05:35 PM

Hats off to erskine...he did his job

Posted by acd1 on February 18, 2011 at 08:58 AM

Win Erskine in a nice scrap.

Posted by Oil Can Henry on February 17, 2011 at 12:34 AM

...a major?,....seriously? Since when did a "mild bump" become a penalty? This is really turning into a baby league! May-as-well eliminate ANY kind of physical-play.

Posted by buzzgun2000 on February 17, 2011 at 06:08 PM

Sutton may be a gentle giant off the ice but he seems to have a problem stopping himself from faceplanting people into the boards from behind. This almost looks like a replay of what he did to Pascal Dupuis in a game against the Pens a couple years ago except that Dupuis was hurt much worse than Hendricks was. You're a big dude, Sutton. You need to think a little more before following through on these hits.

Posted by muskokadangler on February 18, 2011 at 03:44 AM

Big Johnny E throwin BOMBS!!!!! I wanna give it to him cus he's a London Boy but I CAN"T!!!!! Looked extremely even and its too late at night to be pickin these babies apart!!!!!!

Posted by BritishRedWing on February 17, 2011 at 04:03 PM

Win for Erskine over the lummox Sutton. Man, what is it about that Duck uniform that turns guys into punks? I know Sutton has had "issues", but come on. The Ducks need to pick up Matt Cooke. He will be a natural fit in Anaheim.

Posted by bigdog2007 on February 17, 2011 at 09:19 AM

Love Erskine, Hendricks rolled around like the dive Queen Darcie Tucker. The Leafs should trade Kessell, Schenn and two first round picks for Erskine!!!

Posted by illukka on February 17, 2011 at 01:23 AM

great enforcing by John Erskine /applause i didnt think the hit was that bad, was from behind near boards but wasnt a hard one. a hard hit in that position could have killed/paralysed someone.. this was more like a push. anyway erskine didnt like it and he decided to tell his opinion. good work! also sutton answered the bell and showed up, props for that

Posted by travist on February 17, 2011 at 11:31 PM

way to go erskine stepping in for his teammate. although it was a bad hit, i don't think sutton meant to do it, it seemed like the skater turned towards the boards pretty quickly

Posted by FHgrad99 on February 17, 2011 at 01:47 AM

John Eskrine sent a clear message to Andy Sutton here. You hit one of my teammates from behind, you have to answer to me. Eskrine landed more than Sutton and got the win. It was a decent fight.

Posted by chad420 on February 20, 2011 at 05:55 PM

win Johnny Erskine...as expected

Posted by closer44 on February 17, 2011 at 10:55 PM

Erskine's a good guy, and he gets the job done here.

Posted by kkdowning on February 17, 2011 at 12:49 AM

Done the right way by both guys, win erskine

Posted by Langway on February 25, 2011 at 09:12 PM

Sutton grabbed and held Erskine close since he knew he'd been beaten. Blood running down the left side of his face was evidence of that after that cheap shot on Hendricks.
