very close....draw

Posted by staceyb on September 30, 2010 at 05:36 AM

King dominated early on, but midway Thornton nailed him right on the button with the best shot in the fight. I think DJ had enough at the end and he simply threw Shawn down to the ice like a sack of potatoes.

Posted by smashem on September 29, 2010 at 03:52 PM

Not as great as 1st said or thought, and Poss Edge to King. But in no means as much as people on here think King early Thornton middle and a balance issue.

Posted by Mr-Mustard on September 29, 2010 at 03:04 PM

Clear draw.... Jersey jabs vs 2 decent punches. Who the fuk are these voters?????

Posted by jmw7 on September 29, 2010 at 06:30 PM

Good tilt between too powerful guys, slight edge too King

Posted by Ecce72 on October 18, 2010 at 08:07 AM

First round to King......second round to Thornton

Posted by Clockerchops on October 19, 2010 at 01:03 AM

man, the Caps fans think they've got it made in every respect of the game. "King too much for Thornton," "King with the clear win," etc. watch the friggin video. King landed early then Thornton came back with some shots that slowed King down. an easy draw call for a great fight. get off your high horse, Caps fans, you are not invincible b/c you got the biggest showboat goal scorer in the league.

Posted by moneybags on September 29, 2010 at 05:17 PM

This is a draw..I agree that the Bruins should definitely keep McGratton tho

Posted by soupyfly on September 30, 2010 at 08:25 PM

Thats why its pre season..Thorty had a little rust. mid season Kinger goes to sleep...

Posted by Ajaxechkin on October 10, 2010 at 11:21 PM

King Starts and Ends but Thornton strong in middle.

Posted by Lucic_Power on September 29, 2010 at 02:44 PM

Yeah King surprised him with some quick energy out of the gate. Thornton is a very technical fighter and very smart. Its why he can fight people a lot bigger than him. (e.g. King) Hope King stays healthy...I hate the pens...also..GO BRUINS

Posted by BallzInZipper on October 09, 2010 at 09:55 PM

The fight ended because Thornton tripped. Sean was the only one who landed any good shots. King is a bruiser but you wouldn't know it by this weak performance.

Posted by DIRTYWATAH on September 29, 2010 at 02:55 PM

Thornton is tough but this is why the Bruins need to keep Mcgrattan. Thornton is a great leader can skate a regular shift and is a classy guy but I don't really think he strikes fear into some of the super heaveyweights in the east, i.e the Orr's and Boogards etc.

Posted by bruins rule on September 28, 2010 at 11:52 PM

pretty decent fight between these 2 guys.

Posted by blazers76 on September 30, 2010 at 08:49 PM

Win King. Looked like Thorntom was in trouble early, but he managed to look okay.

Posted by jvwood1 on September 29, 2010 at 11:34 AM

DJ looks like he needs some conditioning, but strong as always. He took a couple in the process, one good one, but gave out a lot more. As long as he stays healthy, there will be no shenanigans in DC this season. Good to see...

King pounds thorthon!giving King a 6 average,usually he gets a 7-10 on the scale,

Posted by hal29 on October 04, 2010 at 11:21 PM

edge to king, but ask your self this? does king use the jersey jab as it is the only way he can beat thornton these days. thromton is a gamer and lacks about 4" but the one thing he has over king is stamina and king gasses fast so he was holding on a bit at the end so thornton couldn't get going and thats when thornton comes on best/ win king but he has to finally win one against thornton. close fight though, but a clear win for king. thornton is beaten him in their little rivalry so it is nice to king get one, exspecially being the much bigger man. behn wilson, it is funny you say that rut was a left but if you notice the left is holding the jersey on thornton' my guess is it a rut seeing the way he fell. slaw!!! you must of missed the previous two wins thornton had against king. no way is king to much for thornton. thornton is a gamer and has stood up and beaten the best. carkner, orr, laraque, brashear....the list goes on!!! jaybird king will be a top 10 but there are many guys ahead of him. if king can get in more then 20 games in i will be shocked to see him a top 7 but a top 10 sure. but preseason fights mean nothing he needs to prove himself in the regular season and thats a different ball game and guys he fights in preseason come out different in regular season.

King earned a strong welcome. It'll make the Caps/Pens battles even more interesting. Thornton looked OK. but King came fast & furious. Whether the fight ended with a fall or knock-down depends on perspective, but neither looked hurt by the 'discussion.'

Posted by 5fourfighten on September 29, 2010 at 06:30 PM

King with the clear decisive victory. It boggles the mind to think what some fans were watching when they gave the win to Thornton. Or even a draw. Must be homers. One thing is obvious. Thornton can take a punch, or two, or three and keep on going. Tough guy but he came up short.

Posted by higbee646 on September 29, 2010 at 02:47 PM

King nailed him early on. Thornton is awesome and started to come back but too little too late.

Posted by ILoveFights87 on September 29, 2010 at 12:12 PM

King with the win. Threw a lot more punches then Thornton but overall was a good fight.

Posted by Behn Wilson on September 29, 2010 at 08:57 PM

Hey all... Welcome back everybody. OK, I rarely get involved in the reviewing preseason stuff, (mainly because the leagues' own preseason coverage is so scattery, and often, hard to come by...even for D.S. and his amazing team that run this legendary site), ... but. when it comes to first fight of the year, in a new uniform, no less, for my nominee, as the ''heir-apparent to Goddard crown''... (apologies to Boogaard fans everywhere)..I have to make an exception. Props to Thornton for showing up, and handling himself surprisingly well, considering... but that ''rut'' he caught, could also be described as a ''left''. Too bad ''19'' was already taken, but here's hoping that this change of scenery will finally allow King a chance to garner the proper amount of respect befitting the ''under-appreciated, pound-for-pound, monster with fragile hands''... that he is. See ya in a week, or so. Cheers.

King with the clear win .

Posted by brad houghton on October 02, 2010 at 11:27 PM

solid bout......good to see King in the east to mix things up a bit this year....Thornton aquitted himself well but i would give slight edge to King

Posted by cambec on October 08, 2010 at 10:24 AM

"caught a rut" are you f-ing kidding me. Kings entire left side of his body moved as he through the punch that put Thornton on his ass. Thornton is a punk and I enjoyed watching him get his ass kicked.

Posted by billy jack on September 29, 2010 at 02:22 PM

Respect both these guys,win king.

Posted by bostonrs555 on September 29, 2010 at 03:44 PM

Good to see Kinger getting some work in.... The Blues will miss his 3 games a year, but he should give Wussington some much needed toughness!!!!! W King

good fight

Posted by ThrowdownSJ408 on September 30, 2010 at 03:29 AM

small edge king

Posted by Punchdaddy on September 29, 2010 at 09:35 PM

Edge to King for number of solid punches. Best shot to Thornton though.

Posted by pennvic on September 29, 2010 at 10:02 AM

Good fight.

Posted by rhartogs on September 29, 2010 at 10:47 AM

Good long fight, both got winded. King started strong, Thornton had a little fight in him, but couldn't come. Glad the Caps got a legit fighter. Tired of seeing Bradley bloodied

Posted by DARCY T on October 10, 2010 at 03:59 PM

edge king

Posted by jaybird6401 on September 29, 2010 at 02:38 PM

DJ with the win if he can keep away from breaking his hands over everyone's face he will be a top 3 fighter. nice land by thorton though. KING is the man though

Posted by homeland on September 29, 2010 at 11:52 AM

King gets the win in a good scrap. Thornton did well considering King is 20 pounds heavier.

Posted by slavv on September 29, 2010 at 11:30 PM

King is too much for Thornton...

Posted by matthew.saito on September 29, 2010 at 11:09 PM

King has owned Thornton over the past few years, I wish King was still on the Blues. D.J wins this one again clearly. Thornton did a good job for a little bit not letting DJ smack him with the right. But as usual clear winner....Sidney Crosby

Posted by m4rine77 on October 24, 2010 at 02:41 PM

great fight. king showing his strength by tossing thornton to the ice with one hand. hehehe

Posted by HockeyMan45 on October 02, 2010 at 06:22 AM

D.J. punches Thornton all the time and Thornton cannot do anything. :)

Posted by BLUESFAN18 on October 05, 2010 at 11:07 PM

we will miss you MR.King

Posted by illukka on September 30, 2010 at 01:22 PM

good fight

Posted by PensRule on October 10, 2010 at 12:20 PM

suprisingly good showing for thornton. king took the easy way out by pushing him over.

Posted by gmr133 on September 29, 2010 at 01:29 PM

Winner King. Thornton is a tough guy, but the Caps now have a legitimate heavyweight. The Pens/Caps games just became 90% Crosby vs. Ovechkin, and 10% Godard vs. King.

Posted by wannago_letsgo on September 30, 2010 at 11:17 PM

King wins, Thornton lost much like boston will all season

Posted by Vinnieluvv on September 29, 2010 at 02:23 PM

King with the win

Posted by Big_Fat_Dan on September 29, 2010 at 07:24 AM

King with the win here, good scrap all round.

Posted by BigBadBruins68 on October 02, 2010 at 10:13 PM

King was swarming Thornton early, but Shawn may have landed the best punches of the fight. Still, King's activity gives him the win here. Good fight, and the Caps may have someone to hide behind this year, provided King's brittle wrist holds up.

Posted by muskokadangler on September 29, 2010 at 08:58 PM

Nice fight.....I'm looking for Big things from DJ this year.....I think he's going to move up into the elite!!! If he's not already there!!!

King manhandled Thornton for the easy win

Posted by chad420 on September 30, 2010 at 02:59 PM
