Cote has a iron-jaw !!! hope to see much more from these two during the season

Posted by Boogeyman2383 on December 05, 2008 at 10:24 PM

Cote with the early start, Godard with the finish. Greatest fight i've seen this year. Edge to Godard with late punch, TKO. They will definitely drop the gloves again later on in the season.

Hardly a fight at all, honestly

Posted by Shredder1976 on October 15, 2008 at 07:39 AM

Close fight!! Pound for Pound Riley Cote is the toughest fighter in the NHL! The Flyers see Shiztsburgh 7 more times. Riley will drop him by the end of the season that is a fact.

Great fight.

Very nice fight, slight edge to Godard

Posted by rugby on October 15, 2008 at 10:56 PM

I don't think Cote even considers defence in his bouts, he is so wide open that you are just waiting for him to get floored. Having said that he never stops throwing and his all out style makes the other guys wary. It was when things slowed down and Godard was able to measure him up a bit that he got in trouble, but he is the most entertaining guy out there. Barch and Boll doesn't come close, these guys were hitting to hurt, and are another level up on the fight ladder.

Posted by mikebflorida on October 15, 2008 at 10:16 AM

One of the few fights I'll review. Great fight- DRAW

Posted by BigPapa08 on October 15, 2008 at 12:07 AM

Great fight, no need to pick a winner for me although the slight edge would go to Godard. Fight of the year so far.

Posted by b.t.wilson on October 14, 2008 at 10:45 PM

I'd call it a draw, I couldn't really tell if that last big haymaker from Godard connected or not. I love both those guys. That fight blew the Boll/Barch fight out of the water.

Posted by KevMack on December 09, 2008 at 12:13 AM

How does Godard rate the win here? Great fight...2 lefties...Cote haters are so pathetic.

Posted by baldhedjer on October 15, 2008 at 11:45 PM

That was a great fight in the classic style of two guys just throwing as many punches as they could at each other as hard as they could throw them. The fight was not diminished in the least in that there was not a clear winner. Both fighters sent a statement and provided some amazing entertainment for the fans. This is fighting the way fighting should be. I'll look forward to the next meeting of these teams for another round of this epic fight.

Posted by tank10 on October 15, 2008 at 12:20 AM

I watched this one live, good fight and a lot of good punches thrown, DRAW.

Posted by brawler03 on October 15, 2008 at 10:00 PM

FOTY candidate is right. Great T2T action right there.

Posted by Toe2tOe55 on October 15, 2008 at 12:28 PM

It was an unbelievable fight. I have to say draw cuz that last punch by Godard may have missed but OMG that was a great battle. I love Cote and Godard. Two of my favorite fighters.

Posted by abby811 on October 15, 2008 at 12:51 PM

This is an old time hockey fight!!! No hugging here...just toe to toe punching GREAT FIGHT!!!

Posted by flyboy88 on October 15, 2008 at 07:08 AM

A draw- would have like to see 10 more sec. Neither man went down so DRAW.

Posted by the Jester32 on October 22, 2008 at 07:30 PM

what a great tilt. I rated this a draw for the simple fact that both players brought it. there was no knock down, they stood in there toe to toe. I can see why Godard is getting the votes, though...he landed harder shots, especially at the end. but what a great fight overall.

Posted by devils14 on October 15, 2008 at 08:05 PM

wow..... draw what a fight.

Posted by Bigford83 on October 14, 2008 at 10:33 PM

Cote/Flyers fan here, but gonna call this a draw, with a SLIGHT edge to Godard. Great fight, probably the best of the young season so far...both men throw furiously, and both take as well as give some good shots. That last shot by Godard is why I give him the edge. Sorry Riles, you'll get him next time buddy!

Posted by tattooedkingpin on October 15, 2008 at 11:52 AM

Superb!! Nice throwback fight!!

Posted by flyerguy on October 15, 2008 at 12:48 AM

Anyone who says Godard won this fight clearly has NO clue what they're talking about. It was a CLEAR draw. Maybe some people need to stop their childish jealousy of the flyers and Cote and they might be able to see more clear.

Posted by lovejoy on October 15, 2008 at 02:23 AM

good old-fashioned fight. no turtling or ducking, only firing in rapid frequency. great!

Posted by pjfoster13 on October 15, 2008 at 04:20 AM

It'd be pretty hard to do better than this.. these guys are animals, old-time scrappers circa '94 Brad May. Extra marks for the utter disregard they show for their own well-being. Can't wait for more of these

Posted by 04_16_30 on April 24, 2010 at 12:19 PM

Now THAT is a great hockey fight

Posted by Flyers20Fan on December 27, 2010 at 01:39 AM

Great fight You gotta respect Cote, never backs down from anyone and might not win too many of his fight but they r almost always exciting

Posted by Leafs2006 on November 02, 2008 at 12:44 PM

Wow, thank gawd Riley Cotex's head was on springs....that head was rocked and sprung back like a shock absorber. Good win Eric.....has Cotex won any fights, besides the custodian after the game sweeping? Cheers :D

Posted by wildonefan on October 18, 2008 at 07:24 PM

Yikes, Cote is going to need a neck brace after all that whiplash.. Godard wins..

Posted by trpaulson on October 15, 2008 at 01:43 PM

Godard wins on the strength of that last punch. Good old-fashioned fight between two of the toughest.

Posted by Gunslinger on October 15, 2008 at 07:07 PM

Being a Flyer Guy I admire Cotes heart and willingness to drop them with anyone. Godard was my guy in the West and now maybe he's my guy in the east. Great fight, two guys just chuckin' em. Give it to Godard based on quality and quantity. Props to Riley for hangin' in and landing his share of shots.

Posted by Spanky_Jazz on October 15, 2008 at 04:57 AM

Great fight. Good job on both sides. We need more fights like this. Godard wins.

Posted by siouxfan1 on October 16, 2008 at 01:57 PM

Godard gets the TKO, no doubt!!

Posted by mAnYsTyLeS on October 15, 2008 at 01:37 PM

This my friends (and enemies) is a real fight. Godard gets the win for connected on some bombs. Either way, Cote is one tough MOFO!! Guy has the heart of a lion. All in all - the Rangers own both teams. Cheers!

Posted by smwarpig63 on October 16, 2008 at 02:29 PM

Very close win by Godard. Could have been draw but i feel Godard landed a few more nice punches.

Posted by Sam1410 on October 15, 2008 at 11:55 AM

Great tilt. Godard with the win because he landed the better punches and that last one rocked Cote. FOTY candidate and I hope they go again another 3-4 times this year!!

Posted by Big Little Tank on October 15, 2008 at 10:10 AM

Hmmmmmm...........I haven't seen too many donnybrooks this year, but this was a short, but fun fight. Not the greatest, but fun. Cote is a mid-range Heavy and Godard, well......I've been spoiled with Laraque the last few years, so it is kinda OK to see a guy who doesn't back down. But in all seriousness, as big as the boots that Godard has to fill, I still fill my Pens need to fill a bigger role. Good fight, but it seem to sway the Flyers to play better the rest of Period. It was tough, but I had to give the winner to Godard, but by a last punch. It slowed Cote a little and the Refs came in to break it up. Good Fun Fight Early in the Season. Those two youngins' will have a great Season. (I don't see Pittsburgh trading him for a while)

Posted by CherriesJ on October 16, 2008 at 02:09 PM

props to goddard...this was impressive. and i can't stand cote i think hes an overrated punk, so extra points to godard for that. and im not even a pens fan in the least. nice throwback fight.

Posted by cjorgs on October 24, 2008 at 01:27 PM

Godard landed more bombs - he did better than I thought

Posted by siltmipa on October 15, 2008 at 10:41 PM

The boys have attitude. Good fight, G Winner, not a fucking wrestling

Posted by cwgatti on October 15, 2008 at 02:03 PM

Colton Orr owns both of these losers. Especially Cote.

Posted by aces50 on October 17, 2008 at 09:21 AM

Goddard look like he landed about 75% of his punches. The one at the end was great! Only thing better would have been to KO Cote.

Posted by assassin on October 15, 2008 at 05:51 PM

Posted by brad houghton on October 15, 2008 at 02:04 PM

man i love Cote....he is mr action and seems incapable of having a boring fight.....he is like a Vandy or PJ type of throw back fighter...when he rolls he wins some and loses some but the crowd always wins when he fights Godard gets the win in an intense T2T

Posted by jealeman on October 15, 2008 at 01:37 AM

Wow...this was a great bout. Both throwing bombs, both knocking heads back. Goddard won in a very close, spirited fight.

Posted by Diesel1199 on October 17, 2008 at 01:04 PM

Great bout. Nice to see 2 guys that can chuck 'em and catch 'em. Nod to the God.

Posted by Sukoshi84 on October 15, 2008 at 02:27 PM

Haymaker at the end didnt do sh!t but thats a mut point, bottom line both guys threw bombs and landed quite a few edge goes to Godard this time but the series wil even out

Posted by goaliefighter on October 15, 2008 at 01:23 PM

2 guys just getting acquainted for right now. Should see a few more good toe-to-toe fights throughout the year. Win Godard because of the last shot but much respect for Cote since he still wanted to throw after getting tagged. Can't wait for the next game.

Posted by TwisterTime on October 14, 2008 at 10:39 PM

Posted by dedevil on October 16, 2008 at 09:15 AM

Posted by hossasux1 on October 14, 2008 at 11:27 PM

Best Fight of the year so far! Props to these guys for standing toe to toe and banging the whole time. Win Godard.

Posted by puncher022 on October 15, 2008 at 10:56 AM

When watching the fight on TV last night, it looked very close with the edge to Godard after two rights late in the fight for the take down. But when viewing online and slowing it down, Cote threw a few punches in the beginning but never really landed a good one. Most misses, just short. Way to hang on Godard. All of this talk about the Letang and Godard fight in practice means nothing when he comes out and delivers against a known great fighter in Cote. BGL, have fun in Montreal. We don't need you with this guy anyway. And by the way, he got an assist after this fight. Way to go Godard!! Looking forward to seeing you a lot this season protecting Sid and Gino!!! Welcome to the Burgh baby!!!!

Posted by tonyrodmon on October 15, 2008 at 03:41 PM

I'm a huge fan of both guys and not really a fan of either team. I'd give godard the slight edge like most of you, but this was pretty much dead even until the end.

Posted by LethaLithuanian on October 15, 2008 at 11:39 PM

Looked like it was going to be close early on...then Godard let loose flurry of devastating punches. Cote counters with a good effort, but Godard throws a haymaker that seals the deal.

Posted by tate2653 on October 16, 2008 at 08:14 PM

Godard is a righty while Cote is a southpaw...yet they both squared up as southpaws. You think Godard wanted his power hand in front, or just didn't want to give Cote the lefty advantage? You could tell Godard was trying to decide as they were about to go at it. Godard took it hands down. Great fight! I even heard about it on Sirius "Hard Attack"

Posted by mcpheefan on October 19, 2008 at 10:33 PM

goddard " where were you 15 years ago when mario needed you by his side" the pens finally figured out you need real enforcement to protect crosby and malkin. goddard is the real deal . pens fans are in for a great fight year with him in the lineup.

An absolute WAR! I am from PA and this was a well represented PA throwdown...Winner to Godard slightly I admire Cote's heart and his skills in this heavyweight battle My fav fight of the year

Posted by chl37 on October 15, 2008 at 07:45 AM

clear win for godard who landed more and heavier shots consistently. all credit to cote, who is not yet in top tier status but has one hell of a chin. great fight.

Posted by jackmcc100 on October 15, 2008 at 08:52 AM

Another classic by Cote. He doesn't win this one but gives Goddard a run

Posted by dmk139 on October 15, 2008 at 08:16 AM

Goddard landed som big ones, I tell you what Cote sure loses a lot of fights...

Posted by buddha on October 15, 2008 at 09:59 PM

The haymaker scores a TKO for Godard in a great toe to toe!

Posted by VicariousGoon on October 15, 2008 at 01:57 AM

What a corker... some old school bad intentions in this one. Great fight, edge Godard.

Posted by PastorJ on October 15, 2008 at 11:15 AM

Gotta give the edge to Godard. Looked like he stunned Cote a couple of times, particularly that last punch. Great fight.

Posted by Art24 on October 15, 2008 at 02:42 AM

Props do both combatants - what a fight! Every couple of months the NHL throws up a a rally engaging fight and this was one for the 2008/2009 season. Godard's heavier artillary brought him through.

Posted by tlahue on October 15, 2008 at 12:04 AM

I wonder what fight Battleaxe was watching...Goddard kicked Kotex's ass!!! GO PENS!!!

Posted by upyours on October 14, 2008 at 11:36 PM

As a Pens fan I have always regarded Cote as one tough customer. Godard is certainly more entertaining in his role taking over for Laraque. I give Godard a slight edge in this one. These guys will be going at it plenty I'm sure, with most bouts probably being pretty even.

Posted by staceyb on October 15, 2008 at 05:24 AM

I'm a Flyers fan but Godard definitely wins on points. But I don't know if direct hits to the face or head have that much effect on Cote. He keeps coming. You know those two will fight every game they're out on the ice together. They like to go toe to toe which is how hockey fights ought to be.

Posted by mr. putzoo on October 15, 2008 at 01:56 PM

Cote can not keep taking this kind of punishment. While he throws a lot of punches very few connect and with Orr and Godard in the same league this guy is going to have a short career.

Posted by bruiser11 on October 15, 2008 at 05:32 PM

edge to godard

Posted by Birrdy on October 14, 2008 at 11:34 PM

close fight. big connect by Godard at the end seals it.

Posted by ZeroCool6687 on February 07, 2009 at 07:22 PM

Cote gets off some nice shots here but man does Godard hit HARD! It looks like Cote threw a couple more but Godard was landing BOMBS!

Posted by BWeen on October 15, 2008 at 04:17 PM

thats a tough loss for my man cote. Still the most improved fighter in the last 2 years, and will drop the mitts with anyone.

Posted by BuffSabs76 on October 15, 2008 at 09:41 AM

Great fight by two great fighters... good to see Godard going toe-to-toe. Hope to see more of these two against eachother in the future. Win by an edge to Godard for the late bombs.

Posted by R.Dunlop on October 16, 2008 at 06:28 PM

Posted by coolvp4 on October 15, 2008 at 12:22 PM

They planned this but Cote deserved everything he got. He has been messing with too many people in the league. IT"S ABOUT TIME SOMEONE PUT HIM IN HIS PLACE AND MAKE HIM LOOK LIKE AN A$$.

Posted by digitalroc on October 15, 2008 at 08:15 PM

good fight by both guys. i've watched goddard fight several times in person at the Saddledome and he can throw them with major force. i really enjoy cote's fights too. edge to goddard on this one.

Posted by sonsofjaymiller on August 01, 2009 at 01:04 AM

two great sluggers. edge to ED with the bomb at end, but i admire cote for his disregard of his well being. never a dull tussle.

Posted by Clark75 on October 15, 2008 at 10:35 PM

Wow, what a tilt. Godard wins with that last punch. Very very close. Love the toe to toe.

Posted by hammerrules on October 15, 2008 at 06:25 PM

Flyers fan here. Love RC. Godard is a bonified hammer and gets the edge in this one. Can't wait til the next round. Thanks HF.com.

Posted by J.R. Abel on October 15, 2008 at 01:51 PM

A definite "Fight of the Year" candidate. Great tilt, win for Godard. But much respect for Cote for standing in there and throwing with the bigger guy.

Posted by Muscles on October 15, 2008 at 08:22 PM

I though the fight was a lot closer than is reflected by the voting, although I would give a slight edge to Godard. Both guys held their own in that one.

Posted by Behn Wilson on October 15, 2008 at 10:01 PM

Fight of the year so far! (yeah, I know it's early) Singlehandedly solidified my respect for Goddard, and increased my appreciation of Cote in one fell swoop. Nice to see even the die-hard Flyer fans, tippping the cap to the Penquin winner in a close one. Bring on round two asap.

Posted by plum29 on January 14, 2009 at 12:33 AM

Posted by Bobsluggo on October 16, 2008 at 01:38 PM

Only retards from Filthy or Buffoonlo could call that a close fight, Cote got rocked several times...Great start to the season eh boys?

Posted by Brashearfan on October 15, 2008 at 07:42 AM

I'm a huge Flyers fan, but Godard definitely gets the win here with that haymaker at the end. Amazing fight though and very entertaining. I hope to see more rounds of this all season.

Posted by craig_9806 on October 15, 2008 at 08:45 AM

Great fight

Posted by Dave Brown was the Baddest on October 15, 2008 at 04:39 PM

Godard is a VERY good fighter but he doesn't usually go T2T like he did last night. Riley is the man! Does whatever he can to help his team and is a great guy all around too. Not afraid of anyone. I'm thinking that Holmgren should try to get Godard. Philly would have the next Tag Team Champions.

Posted by zowert on October 15, 2008 at 01:10 PM

IMO Godard is a world-class enforcer, you don't get much better than him. I think he's better at his job than Laraque and Brashear.

Posted by jackalsfan1 on October 15, 2008 at 07:53 AM

WOW some serious bombs and neither guy backing down

Posted by K.O.cur_26 on October 15, 2008 at 10:45 AM

Godard landing slightly better & with more force behind the blows. A huge haymaker catches Cote right on the button in the end. Win Godard.

Posted by lakingsfan19 on October 15, 2008 at 11:23 AM

Best fight of the year so far. Win godard

Posted by Wensinkfan on October 17, 2008 at 11:33 PM

Both of them were throwing and connecting hard. I'll give it to Goddard for that last throw at the end. Very close to being a draw. Gotta love Cote's style of fighting. He just brings it. The re-match should be just as good.

Posted by STEVEO74 on October 31, 2008 at 02:25 PM

I'll give this one to Godard, but a great fight regardless....Prolly one of the better fights we'll see all year!

Posted by bigredbaer on October 15, 2008 at 01:40 PM

This was a great fight between two heavyweights. Very close, but guys got clocked pretty hard, but Godard finished Cote off with a haymaker as the camera angle changed. Good hit, sent Cote into space. By the time he came back the refs had stepped in.

Posted by BattleAxe13 on October 14, 2008 at 10:33 PM

I give only a slight edge to Godard. His punches rocked Cote and Cote's punches had little effect. It was a great fight regardless, right up there with Boll vs. Barch. Just think, Pens and Philth play five more times!

Posted by mightyguins on October 15, 2008 at 12:16 AM

Posted by bigpucks on October 15, 2008 at 12:35 PM

Just a great fight, love Cote, he always stands his ground. Both got great shots, gave it to Godard for the shot at the end. Although Cote, like usual, took it and wanted to keep going.

Posted by redwingrocket on November 03, 2008 at 04:50 PM

Very close but Godard finished stronger with the overhand shots.

Posted by swjankovic on October 15, 2008 at 10:02 AM

Georges WHO???

Posted by BooSanta on October 15, 2008 at 12:06 PM

The haymaker decides it in Godards favor. Godard, like any other tough guy, will have size and reach on Rockem Sockem Riley, but you never have it easy against Cote's furious southpaw swings. Other than that, all the fights this year have to measure up to this early one. Thank goodness Cote's a lefty and Godard's a righty. Bombs away. A classic bout. These 2 always seem to get the gentleman's agreement to go before dropping gloves against their opponents. Penguin and Flyer fans will remember Cote's agreements with BGL b4 their bouts last year. At least this year, the Pens have a worthy replacement of BGL in Godard. 5 more games for these 2. Let's grab the tickets.

Posted by glovedropper08 on October 19, 2008 at 12:19 AM

I love to watch Riley Cote fight infact i hate philly, but cote even though he doesnt win all the time it seem's as if he is always going toe to toe with his opponents good job from Cote philly is lucky to have him. Win to Godard on a great fight.

Posted by Flyersfan4life2 on October 15, 2008 at 08:49 AM

Obviously im a huge flyers fan and cote is the man. Have to give this one to godard. He landed more punches. But it was a great fight by both men. Good job to cote for stayin in there and going toe to toe with a bigger guy. Think about it, this was the 1ST time this team has played and this was the first fight. Imagine how good its going to get later on in the season. WOOOOOOO!!!!

Posted by BigRob1 on October 14, 2008 at 11:30 PM

Great fight! Just how it needs to be done. Win Godard.

Posted by Bamiano on October 15, 2008 at 09:55 AM

I thought Godard landed more effective punches - great fight!

Posted by bluesrule08 on October 15, 2008 at 02:08 PM

that should be up for fight of the year

Posted by creeperama on October 15, 2008 at 09:55 AM

Now thats how its done. Flyers fan here, but had to give slight edge to Godard for that last punch. Look like the fight was about to end then Godard shakes free and hits Cote. But as BGL said Cote is the best fighter pound for pound. Gotta love Cote. Godard 6'4 225lbs, Cote 6'1 210lbs. Imagine if he was a heavyweight?????

Posted by Blackhawk23 on October 15, 2008 at 12:49 AM

wow, that was great. Cote seems to always fight in the top fights every year and Godard if they let him play in most games he is right near the top of the Heavyweight division. I had to give the win to Godard as he landed the biggest punch in a fight that was filled with hudge blows. Cant wait till these two go at it again!

Posted by bluto1313 on October 15, 2008 at 12:03 AM

Great fight! One of the best I've ever seen. The crowd knew it was coming and they were not let down. Clear win for the God of war, but as much as I hate the ass sucking Cryers I have to admit I like and respect Cote a lot. If the rest of the team had as much sack as he does, maybe they might do something. Nah! Flyers, losers since 75.

Posted by bobberino on October 19, 2008 at 01:14 AM

An instant FOTY Candidate!!

Posted by Bear72 on October 15, 2008 at 10:45 AM

Ever so slight edge to Goddard dandy brawl look forward to the sequels lots of toe to toe

Posted by RPULTZ on October 27, 2008 at 09:11 PM

Posted by BROWN - KOCUR on October 17, 2008 at 10:37 PM

Great fight. Everybody thats clueless rips Cote BUT his fights are some of the best in years. The guy is no huggy bear, duck and chuck, or shield wearing douche like some of this boards heroes. Goddard won this one but there will be at least 4 or 5 more before the years out.

Posted by ShuterMcGav on October 15, 2008 at 02:54 PM

Godard get the win for the big punch at the end

Posted by neiljc on October 14, 2008 at 10:41 PM

This is an instant classic. How about Godard working with both hands? These guys are not afraid to take one to give one. Cote missed quite a few bombs, and Godard got one in. Cote may have gotten one in as well, but slight edge to Godard for working both hands and being slightly stronger and better than Cote in this showing. Wow!

Posted by Chilleo on October 16, 2008 at 08:25 PM

great fight win def by goddard

Posted by NYRangers30 on October 15, 2008 at 06:55 AM

BEST FIGHT IN THE PAST 3 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!! they just kept taking and throwing i had it called a draw until godard stunned him

Posted by Bigmurf8758 on October 14, 2008 at 10:53 PM

From the young season this was the best fight during the best game of the season so far. Both went toe-to-toe and took some solid blows. u can tell Cote was stunned for a second by that last punch, win Godard.

Posted by blackgoldfan on October 15, 2008 at 08:00 PM

This should be FOW. Very slight edge to Godard for the "W". Cote does well just lands a few less shots than Godard who puts an exclaimation piont on the win with a late haymaker.

Posted by glaxko on October 14, 2008 at 11:21 PM

such an awesome fight... Godard the win.

Posted by phil082 on October 16, 2008 at 03:36 PM

whats a fight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2 of the best enforcers of the NHL and realise a very nice fight! Godard win by KO!!

Posted by retrolust on October 15, 2008 at 08:51 AM

EG brought out the whooping stick called his right hand - that little girlie coward huggy bear brashear is next

Posted by Filthadelphia on October 24, 2008 at 10:37 PM

Godard will have fun beating this guy 5 more times.

Posted by dmac1983 on October 15, 2008 at 01:37 PM

Great, entertaining fight. Though a Cote fan, gotta give Godard the nod in this one. Having said that, Cote has got to have the hardest head in the league - taking on Laraque, Orr, Brashear, the list goes on. Cote takes on the heaviest of the heavies and holds his own every time (except against Parros last year). But, nobody can deny that this guy always gives an exciting and entertaining fight every time.

Posted by Hoodlumpr on October 15, 2008 at 02:51 PM

I was at this game, and the video just doesn't do that haymaker by Godard justice!

Posted by sjmckenz1 on October 15, 2008 at 05:41 PM

Godard wass the clear winner, when he hit Cote with that last shot he absolutely hurt him ! thats why the refs stepped in. If they wouldn't of Cote would of really got a serious beatdown. All n all it was an excellent fight. I really like Cote because he's an old school scrapper.

Posted by jrbPenFan on October 15, 2008 at 07:16 PM

Great fight, toe to toe, edge to Godard!

Posted by luby3131 on October 18, 2008 at 08:59 PM

awsome fight, cant wait til they go again

Posted by marcopolo92 on October 19, 2008 at 08:06 PM

Thats a real fight. Two players that wanna fight, love it!

Posted by dpz069 on October 31, 2008 at 12:57 AM

best fight of the year so far two heavywieghts good stuff

Posted by Black Ice on December 08, 2008 at 08:57 AM

Wow! Godard wins this one. Great fight. Between 19 and 21 seconds in Godard uses Cotes head like a speed bag, displaying great style and power. Both land some wicked blows and show good stamina but I think Cote was probably hurting more at the end of this one. HW Fight of the year!

G oddard didnt take long to establish himself as KING OF THE EAST!!!

Posted by jrw89sbk on April 12, 2009 at 11:38 PM

Great fight Godard with the win.

Posted by Chezbeck666 on April 28, 2009 at 09:26 PM

I love how they just decided to fight and not care about the puck drop! Those are two devoted fighters, and they're what people come to see! That last hook by Godard really sealed the deal, too!

Posted by Newbold on June 05, 2009 at 12:41 AM

good scrap, godard with slight edge I count 20 good shots including the haymaker for godard and only 15 for cote

Posted by Posted247 on October 10, 2009 at 11:21 AM

Good stuff

Posted by pensfan666 on October 31, 2009 at 02:41 PM

badass fight

Posted by sirpablo05 on November 16, 2009 at 12:11 AM

Very, very good fight true "hw's" i'd def. have to give it to godard that last shot knocked cote through a loop.

Posted by Treehugger1068 on February 08, 2010 at 10:25 AM

Two heavyweights swinging around here. Godard got the best this time. He landed more clear shots to the face and set the pace of the fight

Posted by p_stejskal on October 27, 2008 at 02:01 PM

Posted by sickagain on October 17, 2008 at 09:24 AM

I guess we can look forward to a bunch of pussies with white tape on the bridge of their glasses judging hockey fights again this year. If Cote knocked Godard's head into the tenth row 95% of you would have given the nod to Godard.

Posted by noiinteam14 on October 15, 2008 at 12:27 PM

One of the best fights ive seen in awhile. I give both a lot of credit but id have to give it to cote. The "haymaker" at the end did nothing to cote, if you didnt see he was going back for more before the refs intervened. All in all great fight though

Posted by AllDayAP on January 14, 2009 at 05:31 PM

These guys are both so overrated

Posted by kitcarnut on October 15, 2008 at 12:06 AM

will be decided again in rds 2 thru 25.....it's a long season.

Posted by biglite351 on November 10, 2008 at 10:31 AM

Great example of a fight!

Posted by doolinator on October 15, 2008 at 02:20 AM

NOW THATS A FIGHT!!! I cant really give this to anyone, they both landed some great punches but Cote landed more. Great stuff by Godard to not only hold his own but rattle Cote with a few of his own. DRAW New Jersey Devils 08/09!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by azjim on October 14, 2008 at 10:31 PM

An excellent fight. Godard gets the wins for landing the harder punches, but both were bringing it.

Posted by gmr133 on October 15, 2008 at 11:50 AM

Too bad the Pens let BGL go (and half of the rest of the team too). Godard looks like he can pick up the slack. Slight edge to Godard. Cote is a tough monkey.

Posted by goody72 on June 02, 2009 at 05:45 PM

Great fight. Godard with the win.

Posted by Leetch4Eva on June 03, 2009 at 10:28 AM

Cote is a punching bag

Posted by thepolishkid88 on October 15, 2008 at 01:43 PM

At first i thought Draw, but then watching it enough it looks like a very slight edge to Godard. This was a fantastic fight and they both were throwing some heavy punches. Cote is one Flyer i will always respect.

Posted by CocoQuaker7 on October 15, 2008 at 06:17 PM

Either Godard has a rock-hard chin, or Cote was throwing pillows because his punches didn't hurt Godard at all.

Posted by bigdog2007 on October 15, 2008 at 07:57 PM

Another fight....another loss for Miley Cote.

Posted by Wolf_eyes on October 17, 2008 at 12:15 AM

Wow. Im impressed. This is how all NHL fights should be.

Posted by hncreature on October 15, 2008 at 05:54 AM

Got to see this in HD on a 50"...like they were in my living room! Excellent toe to toe exchange...edge to Godard

Posted by tha_munk on November 12, 2008 at 06:19 PM

Thats a hockey fight!

Posted by Boone2511 on March 28, 2009 at 01:28 PM

Godard landed about 20 more punches he won easy.

Posted by piney on December 04, 2009 at 07:04 PM

wow. Goddard.

Posted by muskokadangler on November 29, 2009 at 08:05 PM

What a great fight. The last thing I wwould want to be in this whole world is Riley Cote's FACE!!!!!!!

Posted by pvdrummer2000 on March 02, 2015 at 02:38 AM

both guys swinging for the fences, pretty even until godard landed a bomb to end it.

Posted by Richterfan on October 15, 2008 at 04:32 PM

Very early FOY candidate! Win to Godard but major, and I mean major props to Cote for a great fight!

Posted by poopies on October 15, 2008 at 01:13 AM

What a finishing punch!!!

Posted by chad420 on October 17, 2008 at 02:37 PM

great fight...riley early landing more then godard late ....eg landed a bomb @ the end...

Posted by rocky7482 on October 17, 2008 at 10:18 PM

Cote's way out of his league here. Why did the Flames give up Godard?

Posted by TBLightningGuru on October 16, 2008 at 06:46 PM

AMAZING FIGHT. Godard with a slight edge during the trading.. then gets the easy Victory due to the last haymaker

Posted by goon10 on October 15, 2008 at 01:09 PM

This is a real good reminder why we're all watching this action on our computers and not in the mix with them. I for one would have been out cold if I'd taken any of those punches from either guy. 5 more games.... oh boy!

Posted by ajgst6 on October 15, 2008 at 09:46 AM

One of the best fights so far this season. It was pretty close, but I gotta give it to Godard. The punches that he landed were more solid than those of Cote.

Posted by CFG1787 on October 15, 2008 at 01:04 AM

Great fight, both guys threw everything they had at each other

Posted by kkokolis178 on October 15, 2008 at 08:01 AM

Excellent fight. Godard wins with the haymaker at the end. Round 2 on Nov. 13th.

Posted by happynoodleboy on October 15, 2008 at 03:37 PM

I'm not exactly a Cote fan but dear god he's one tough motherfucker. The number of shots (and Godard sized shots at that) he took to the face and head was scary and yet he didn't even slip. I'd give the win to Godard but a great showing by both fighters and one of the best bouts I've seen in years.

Posted by zink92 on April 19, 2009 at 05:48 PM

sick tilt

Posted by monster on October 15, 2008 at 10:43 AM

i have to give it to cote. controlled the entire first half of the fight. godard came back with bombs but cote was still throwin em.
