These two had had words earlier in the game and they were lined up on the opposite wings before the puck was dropped... Than Boogard switched sides with another MInnesota player and everyone in the crowd knew what was about to happen and were on their feet screaming. As soon as the puck drops, so do the mitts, with both guys throwing "feeler" shots before getting in tight. Boogard manages to throw a couple of hard rights but Godard manages to effectively lock them out so they cause no damage. Godard tries to answer with his own rights but doesn't seem to be able to effectively reach the much larger Boogard. Boogard than goes to the left and lands a decent shot before attempting to get the right hand going again. Boogard throws a couple more shots which don't land and Godard manages to tie Boogard's right up and lands TWO BEAUTY right hand shots which clearly daze Boogard and puts him to one knee. Boogard tries to get up but he is clearly in la-la-land and Godard lands another two hard rights. Boogard is game and still tries to get up but Godard shows mercy and pulls/muscles him down to the ice. TKO win to Godard.

Derek Boogaard vs. Eric Godard

This one starts off the faceoff as Godard and Boogaard line up beside one another. Once the puck drops, both players discard their gloves and immediately come together. They begin the fight in a clinch but moments later Godard attempts a short right that misses. Boogaard then gets his right free and fires off a right that misses. Godard replies with a right and then a right uppercut. Boogaard quickly fires back in a hard right that catches the side of Godard’s helmet. Boogaard follows that up with a right to the body and then a right uppercut. Godard is then able to get his right hand free as he fires off three quick straight rights. Boogaard then pulls back with his left cocked as Godard attempts to lean away. Boogaard throws a right that catches the side of Godard’s head. He then follows that up with a right that catches Godard’s helmet. Boogaard continues his offense as he sneaks in a right uppercut. Godard then answers with a right that comes up short. Boogaard responds with a right that misses and then moments later Godard fires off a right uppercut. Boogaard then throws another right that catches the side of Godard’s helmet. He follows that up with a left rabbit punch and then two rights. Godard answers with a right and then Boogaard fires off a right as Godard is ducking. He tries to follow that up with a big uppercut that misses. Boogaard then throws a right to the back of the head and Godard quickly answers with right and then an attempted right uppercut that misses. Both guys then hold on with their rights cocked and Godard throws a right that lands solidly. He follows that up with a right that lands hard to the back part of Boogaard’s exposed head. Boogaard slips to his knees and then Godard throws a right to the top of the head. Boogaard returns to his feet and then Godard lands two more rights with the last one sending Boogaard to his knees. Godard then grabs the jersey of Boogaard and pulls him onto his back.

Derek Boogaard vs Eric Godard

These two line up at center ice, right after a Flames' goal, and drop the gloves. They don't square off, and just grab ahold of eachother from the start. Boogaard misses with a couple rights, then throws one right body punch. Then, Godard responds with a few rights, hitting the target with atleast one. Boogaard switches to his left hand, and throws one, hitting the side of Godard's helmet. Boogaard switches back to his right, throwing one that hits Godard's helmet once again. They both exchange a few more rights, with Godard for sure landing one, and Boogaard missed with a couple. They exchange a few more rights, this time they both land a solid right or two. Godard throws a few more rights, hitting Boogaard's helmet, causing Boogaard to fall to both knees, but he quickly gets back up. As he gets up, Godard throws a couple more rights, the last one possibly connecting to the left side of Boogaard's face, sending Boogaard to his knees again, and the linesmen decide to move in.

Boogard is one of the toughest guys around, and Godard handled him. What does that tell you? Both of these guys will be around for a long time to come.

Good fight. Godard starts out with 3 quick rights to the head. They exchange a couple more, but then Godard lands some really big shots at the end...knocking Boogaard to his knees and stunning him pretty good. As close to a KO without a concussion as you'll get.

Anyone who has seen Godard fight before shouldn't have been surprised by the outcome of this scrap.
