Ok, who here has the IQ of a 3 year old? Well, if you choose Avery as the "winner" here, that would be you.

First of all, the score was 5-0 at the time of this altercation. At that point, the Thrashers had basically conceded the loss. Getting Kovi off the ice is pointless because the outcome of the game had already been determined.

Secondly, the video clearly shows Kovi wanting to go after Avery. Nobody "drew" anything. Kovi wanted a piece of him. It is clear Kovi was more then willing to take the 5mins.

Third, what kind of gutless candy ass has to fake glove drop with a 50 goal scorer? It is clear Avery once again found himself starring down the barrel of a gun, and was about to crap his pants.

Fourth, have any of you ever taken a punch!??! Any day of the week and twice on Sunday I'd prefer to get a padded glove punch to the face, rather then a bare knuckle punch. Calling Kovi "cheap" for hitting him with his glove on is stupid.

Fifth, I understand why some think Avery was trying to draaw the instigator on Kovi. Afterall, it is that rule that has allowed to keep that punk's ugly mug in tact for the last 5 years. Take out the instigator, and Avery will get taken out.

In the old days, there would have been more guys that could fight around so your 40 goal scorer wouldn't have to go after a guy like this. In fact, Avery would have had a much harder career in the old days because he would have been getting offers all the time.

lol, Have to give Kovalchuk the win for landing the only punch and making that chump bleed. Paul Mara needs to mind his own damn business.

Avery sucks and always will.
Can't even defend himself against non-fighter Kovalchuk...

I love it!! Avery losing to a weaker opponent. This should make for an interesting game 4.

Avery loses by being a chicken ****. I hate it when guys like him do that. Its a 5-0 game. The star player on the other team wants to go with you and you refuse to go? You need a soft defensemen to come in and save your as*? Avery is, and always has been, a punk.

Yes, Avery is an instigator. I am a Rangers fan, and even I hate him. But sports has a long history of players who use mental tactics to wear down opponents, vis a vis: Dennis Rodman, Terrell Owens, even Muhammed Ali. Again, as an athlete, I hate these players- but I never fought one on the ice- or in any game, because THATS WHAT THEY WANT.

Avery got his a55 kicked. He deserved it. I voted for Kov in the 'who won' catagory. But guess what? Thrashers lose thier best player for five minutes, and for the rest of this short series and possibly forever, all he will think about is how much he hates avery. So Avery wins the bigger battle, which is the whole point of having him on the team.

wow, if not for "oops i crapped my pants" poti, this would have been a real fight. and avery would have had his ass handed to him. i'm impressed with ilya's jump and strength. he was all over avery in less than a second. nothing wrong with bitch slapping a pest like avery from time to time.
