I always like to see Phaneuf getting beaten up !

Phaneuf has him by twenty pounds? what a clown

boring ass fight

Posted by hessbo on April 09, 2007 at 11:53 AM

I don't know if you guys realize this or not but Phaneuf hardly ever fights, he's the big hitter who goes and does his job as well as play amazing defense. The only time he fights is when he gets jumped like he did here.

Posted by Krahn on April 10, 2007 at 04:17 AM

I Wanna See "visor tough guy" phaneuf fight an actual heavy weight tha lil' *****.... if they didnt send Godard after Boogaard, Phaneuf would have had his big mouth wired shut!

Posted by searsie19 on April 09, 2007 at 07:18 PM

For all you who say it was a dirty hit, watch a little more closely. Arnason was admiring his pretty little pass, and if he didnt inadvertantly turn just a little, it would have been the hit of the year. Phaneuf did not elbow or go for the head, his shoulder his Arnasons shoulder, and the force of the spin threw off Arnasons helmet. Lappy was doing his job standing up for the skill players ( which is Arnason sometimes). Lappy handled himself well, as he should over a player who fights 2-3 times a season.

Ian was more active and landed a few. He also took Dion down. Win laperriere.

Posted by Bahjay on April 09, 2007 at 11:26 PM

Haha Godard Vs... your so Flamer biased it's not even funny. Phaneuf got his ass handed to him. Have fun golfing (or should I say bowling?) after the Wings steamroll you and your plumbers.

Posted by red16 on April 09, 2007 at 06:53 AM

Laperriere won this one no question, but what was that cheap crap shot at the end from Laperriere when Phaneuf was down on the ice and had his jersey over his head? I thought Laperriere was better than that garbage. P.S Phaneuf manhandled Laperierre earlier in the season, so I guess Lappy needed to handle his business before the end of the season. And who is that jabroni that always tosses a vote for the losing fighter? Buddy I don't know what hockey game you watched but Phaneuf DID NOT WIN, so until these losers figure out what winning a hockey fight means they should maybe watch ringette or something.

Posted by unvy on April 10, 2007 at 09:13 AM

Could these announcers blow Laperriere anymore than they are. He has 3 pounds on Phaneuf--where's the 20 come in? The hit was clean--this league is pussified. I'll take Phaneuf on my team any day over Laperriere. I hate when homer announcers can't get their facts straight like these two bozos.

Posted by hockey doc on April 09, 2007 at 08:34 AM

phaneuf got tuned up again, he deserves it. he is a cheap shot artist with no respect for other players.

Posted by wylde_buzz on April 16, 2007 at 10:40 AM

nice job by Laperriere

Posted by Oliwa 29 on April 09, 2007 at 11:01 PM

Laperriere shouldn't be to happy with this win as he totally jumped him, but none the less Phaneuf got tossed...LOL Even as a Flames fan there's just something about Phaneuf I just can't stand....hmmmm...arrogance

Posted by kirley_4 on April 09, 2007 at 12:02 PM

That was a great hit by Dion. But he only weighs 10 pounds more than him, the anouncer is an idiot.

Posted by faceoff on April 10, 2007 at 07:43 PM

I like Laperriere! He's so protective of his teammates. I like his scrappy ways. I saw him play last year in Colorado. He's not that big, which makes him all the more impressive.

Posted by hawkseven on April 12, 2007 at 09:54 PM

Lappy has no fear. He is one smart fighter.

Posted by Icedog on April 09, 2007 at 08:27 PM

Dion got jumped, there was no fight. They wrestled along the boards with their gloves off. If Lap had the balls to do it right; he could have waited until later and then squared off with Dion.

I normally don't post, but I read the post by tatals17 and I honestly have to question your hockey sense. I played in the same league as Phaneuf and I played college/university...in fact I played everything minus professional. I did this because I was only ever going to be a checking player with a very limited length of career (doesn't make sense to punish your body like that and potential have a mind of mush when you can educate yourself and still enjoy life). Knowing how much toll those hits take on your body; the last thing you want to do is cheap shot...in hockey it comes back on you. Getting back on topic I think Phaneuf made the perfect hit. I played agaisnt MacLean and cutting through the middle without looking is his thing. Good players like Scott Stevens and Dion Phaneuf keep a book on players like this. Trust me when I say that agents recommend that players keep a book on games. We are all creatures of habit and tend to do things that have worked in the past...how else do you think Stevens was able to make the hit that ended Lindros as we once knew him. The hit by Phaneuf was clean and I give Phaneuf credit for defending himself. He is not much of a fighter, but probably one of the best hitters in the game. Lots of credit goes to Laperriere; this guy is the ultimate team player and an asset to any team. As a Calgary fan, I certainly know that we could use a guy like this one our squad. He is great defensively, chips in on the odd offense, adds toughness and a ton of heart.

Posted by mijlandrew on April 09, 2007 at 02:05 PM

obviously most of you are avs fans. Phaneuf rarely fights. i dont care how much bigger Phaneuf is than Laperriere. Laperriere should have been able to do much better than he did.

Posted by bostonbruins on April 09, 2007 at 07:38 PM

To the "Eric Godard" clown... the point is that Phaneuf doesn't loose the visor when he hikes up his skirt and attempts to fight. His only hope is that either his opponent is a lot smaller than him or that the ref's will jump in. He's a modern day version of Ulf Samuelson with a bit more talent and no Stanley Cup ring. It's always nice to see the bitches who talk better than they fight take a beating.

Posted by NJDcaptain04 on April 09, 2007 at 04:50 PM

Lappy won handily. Kudos to him for sticking up for a teammate. Great team guy who takes on the tough, dirty job despite being more of a middleweight (physically). That being said, the hit, IMO, was legal. He was skating with his head down, looking at the puck. His body was slightly turned, but I don't think it was a hit from behind. It looked to me like Arnason was looking to pass or shoot the puck (puck even ended up on the defenseman's stick, who was a few feet in front of Arnason) after the hit. I don't know why Phaneuf got a charging call.

Posted by icegoat63 on April 10, 2007 at 12:52 PM

Way to go Lappy, not a bad fight really. I saw it in the corner and started to worry it would just be a hugging match but no no, Ian cashed that check all over Phanuefs ass.

Posted by tele-mon on April 10, 2007 at 01:53 AM

If only Sheriff Scott Parker was out there... Dion would still be hearing the bells! He never got a chance since the trade. I bet the Wings are breathing a sigh of relief that the hottest team in the NHL fell one point short, and instead get to beat up on the back-door Flamers.

Posted by bronx1981 on April 09, 2007 at 08:48 PM

Laperriere gets the win in a close fight. But great job going right after Dion.

Posted by lakingsfan19 on April 09, 2007 at 11:37 AM

all lappy all the way!!!! phaneuf paid for that hit.. he got worked.... good scrap lappy, phaneuf was horrible and got beat up by a much smaller player..lol and for the clown who says phaneuf is choosing the avery route, at least avery stands up and drops some bombs of his own.takes care of buissness...

Posted by Gunslinger on April 12, 2007 at 11:45 AM

Good to see someone get ahold of Phaneuf, a cheap shot artist who hides behind a visor. Good job Lappy.

Posted by kingkonekollins on April 10, 2007 at 04:30 PM

Kind of weak, phaneuf is a b...., i like when any player stands up for a teammate, LETS GO SABRES

Posted by Chronicous on April 09, 2007 at 11:46 PM

Phaneuf's a frikin punk, the more times he gets his head kicked in the better.

Posted by N_Morse on April 09, 2007 at 01:08 PM

Phaneuf should have used his body to his advantage, Laperriere wanted it more doing his job.

Posted by tatals17 on April 09, 2007 at 01:28 PM

Some of you who claim to know about hockey, obviously weren't watching this. Arnason was not "skating with his head down"- his head was up and his back was turned when Phaneuf cheap shoted him in the head. Lappy did what you are supposed to do in that situation and stood up for his teammate. Once they fought, (and no- lappy didn't come up from behind like some of you are alledging) Lappy got in a great right to Phaneuf's dome that really was the best shot in the fight. Phaneuf is one of the true great young defensemen in the game, and is by far the best open ice hitter now that Scott Stevens is gone; however, he needs to quit cheap hits like this one, in a meaningless game. It is beneath him. He should also quit diving like the "triple lundy" he took the last time these two teams played. Very beer league hockey of him.

sad phaneuf sad

Posted by Juha82 on July 19, 2008 at 01:47 PM

Not domination by Lappy but was a CLEAR winner. Not a good fight but surely good show from LAppy. He controlled well this one(behind the net).

Posted by Secuel on April 09, 2007 at 06:25 PM

Win Lappy. Phaneuf needs to drop 'em more for how much he runs his mouth. Big talker with the visor.

Posted by loungo88 on April 09, 2007 at 10:51 AM

Ian rocks

Posted by mikebflorida on April 09, 2007 at 02:12 PM

Spirited fight. I am not a Laperierre fan but gave him the nod. Slops for throwing punches after the takedown. I need to add that the gomer named Eric Godard is a complete moron. I respect Canada and all but you are an idiot. Just because your national sport is dominated by American cities, American money, and most of the Canadian teams can't seem to make the playoffs, you call us silly and stupid? Tell you what hoser, your sport would have like 6 teams if it wasn't for us stupid Americans but you'd probably be ok with that right? You also do know that this is a hockey fights website where people are allowed to express their opinions and gomers like you are only a fan when your guy wins or your team wins so I would say you're not even a true hockey fan but just some shlep living in his moms basement with to much snow on the ground and nothing else to do besides piss and moan on the internet. Nice. Get a life dude.

Posted by dms151 on April 09, 2007 at 08:54 PM

Good to see that all of you Avalanche fans were watching your team's last game of the season. Most Flames fans didn't bother to watch the meaningless game. I was reading the paper this morning and was surprised to see a picture of All Star defenseman Dion Phaneuf fighting fourth line grinder Ian Laperriere so I watched the fight on YouTube. Laperriere did his job and stood up for his team mate. He layed a beating on Phaneuf. Too bad nobody else on the Avalanche would do the same for Laperriere. By the way, do you call Ian Laperriere "Lappy" because: 1.) You know him personally. 2.) As an American you are unable to spell or pronounce a French name?

Posted by TheNatural on April 11, 2007 at 11:00 AM

Eric Godard vs...........You claim that Americans don't know anything about hockey, well it's obvious that you know nothing about grammer. Do your parents know that you're on their computer?

Posted by forsberg21 on April 09, 2007 at 01:15 PM

Wasnt even close. Nice to see Lappy finally get a dominate win, and over someone a lot bigger than him. Nice way to end the season.

Posted by cambec on April 09, 2007 at 08:11 PM

For some unknown reason I don't care for Phaneuf. So...I enjoyed watching him get his butt handed to him.

Posted by hdog on April 10, 2007 at 12:02 AM

bostonbruins said it all...what can I add? Well, how about celine dion gets back into a skirt and sings? too, bad, tough guy...way to go lappy.

Posted by midmusq on April 10, 2007 at 05:43 AM

Phaneuf has a lot to learn about fighting.

Posted by Avs Junkie on April 09, 2007 at 11:43 AM

Lappy made up for the time earlier in the season when he stood up for Bret McLean. My son and I were at the game and were lucky enough to be able to move from our nose bleed seats to seats in the 2nd row right next to the Flames sin bin. Once Phanuef was in the box and he looked over at me I mouthed to him "He beat your A$$!!!". His reaction was kind of a smirk of agreement but one also of "I would kick your fat old a$$" After the game I stayed up to watch the replay of the game on Altitude and they happened to focus on Dion in the box just as was I saying this to him and I got to see that expression again and I again interpreted it as "Yeah, he did kind of kick my butt" Great late season run Avs to try to make up for the lackluster season start. You made it last a lot longer than I expected it to.

Posted by connelly on April 14, 2007 at 09:52 AM

mister visor got rock by laperriere , Phaneuf should stop trying to be a tuff guy he will never be tuff he is not strong enough

Posted by ovechkinfan8 on April 10, 2007 at 01:40 AM

phaneufs a bitch....wat a cheap hit on arnason! good job to lappy for pounding the crap outta phaneuf

Posted by hockeyavs23 on April 10, 2007 at 11:51 AM

glad to see dion get beat by lappy. dion was a dirty player in a game that meant nothing. im glad lappy stuck up for his teammate out there. he's a great team player.

Posted by craig_9806 on April 09, 2007 at 07:51 AM

Good to see Phaneuf get pounded, no way he could run away with his tail between his leg's this time. Waiting for the other guy to drop his glove's then turning away proves he's a BITCH

Posted by googly4 on April 09, 2007 at 10:42 AM

I wish Phaneuf would get his ass kicked. He is an average fighter with above average ability to defend and avoid a pummeling. He is a star on the rise and it pains me to see him do some of the cheaper stuff. He could be a tough, awesome two-way player who but I have seen too much of his stickwork and agitator crap on Gaborik to know differently. Somebody is going to knock his head off. He could be the next Orr or Bourque, but is choosing to go the Avery route.

Posted by slshbleed on April 09, 2007 at 12:21 PM

If Tyler Arnason weren't so fat and lazy, he could have gotten out of the way of that hit. There is no way that is a charge. If they get a good square off, this fight could have been better. I don't like any of them, so the best thing is if they pound on each other for a while.

Posted by trpaulson on April 09, 2007 at 12:52 PM

Ian wins. Phaneuf got what he deserved.

Posted by khews11 on April 09, 2007 at 12:33 PM

Only one person on this page has any idea about the game of hockey or dion phaneuf. I would really like to try the coke that all you guys must be sniffing because i have no idea how u can say he got his ass beat. For starters, what the fuck is arnason doing cutting across the middle with his head down? Phaneuf could have MURDERED him but he let up soooo much and how that was a charge when he coasted in is beyond me. Lappy is a plug, great that he sticks up for his teammates but at least sqaure off with the guy. Phaneuf will back down from no one and Lappy knows sqauring off equal two broken orbital bones against someone like phanuef. He is the biggest cleanest hitter in the game right now and defencemen of the future. You guys are all a few fries short of a happy meal

Posted by Eric Godard vs. on April 09, 2007 at 12:31 PM

YOU KNOW WHAT IS REALLY FUNNY DION IS AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN UNDER 200LBS I WENT BOWLING WITH The FLAMES AND ASKED HIM STRAIT UP AND HE SAID JUST UNDER 200 THAT WAS 3 MONTHS AGO. JUST BECAUSE HES ONE OF THE BEST HITERS IN THE GAME DOES NOT MEAN HES 30LBS LARGER THAN EVERY ONE HE HITS HE IS THE SAME WHEIGHT AS LAPPER LOL STUPID AMERICAN LOLit is even has it on this web site you people have no clue about hockey . Dion was tied up Ian is a graber lame fight dion destroys another avalanche with a nice hit oh and dion owned ian the last time they went and that was after he crushed brett Mclean if Dion had time to toss the helmet and slide the elbow pads up lappy would get tucked in the hard way. All laperriere does is attack people when they dont feel like fighting and then hug them to death, no real shots landed. American fans are hope less only a loser would think that was a good fight, shows you dont even know what a real fight is. basketball is a better sport for weak spares like you, it was a nothing fight, just because it was the first one you have ever see does not mean if was good. makes me sick
