Reeves hit Staal when the puck was at Staal's feet and he was playing the puck... Smith hit Reeves when the puck had already been played and was 5-10 feet away already... should have resulted in an interference minor and offset the instigator minor -- fine with the misconduct... Fight wasn't close -- Smith got what he should have...

Finally a Ranger whose balls aren't attached to his chin, no contest but at least he answered the bell

Honnestly this is one of the most beautifull things ive seen in a long time. Brought a tear to my eye. That beeing said props to smith.

Refs came in, thankfully. I will say I am a Ranger fan, so the 1 Ranger fan who voted for Smith here, stay off the site please. Keep the bias out of this. I give Smith props for standing up to Oleksiak, good job trying, but bit off more than he could chew, no shame in that.

Big Rig throttled Smith in the actual fight, no doubt about that, but a moral victory for Smith after being a healthy scratch for a couple of games and then coming back to give Reaves a jolt along the boards. Reaves had been running at Rangers players in the first half of the game, including a jarring hit on Staal, and openly challenged the Rangers bench. Smith shut him up and in the process earned the props of his teammates and coach. Still, for the Rangers it was a lost weekend.

smith sat reaves down with his hit and oleksiak sought revenge.props to smith not running away but i expected oleksiak to dominate the fight.oleksiak won but he missed on most of his punches...gave it a 4

LOL...All Oleksiak with a bunch of soft nothing punches...no arm speed. Smith is incredibly lucky that Reaves didn't get up in time to handle this himself!

One sided in Oleksiak's favor

Give Smith credit for having the guts to make a run at Reaves. He gets the expected beatdown but full kudos for going at him. I guess he had a tough choice Reaves or Oleksiak. Which one is most likely to hurt me the least? Like getting to choose between lethal injection or hanging, they both end with the same result. Win Olesiak in a 4.5.

Unfortunate for Smith. He lays a massive hit on one mammoth and gets beat up by the other one. Myself and Mark Boroweicki approve of this piece of crap getting whats coming to him. :)

more like 3 hits that led up to that one...eh not much of a fight but then again who would want to fight O dogs hes a monster

Posted by Biggus on January 17, 2018 at 02:04 PM

Smith bowls over Reaves after Reaves bowled over Stahl, and Oleksiak decides to step in. Smith should be thanking Oleksiak. Reaves would have given him a worse beating.

Posted by gsrae on January 15, 2018 at 03:48 PM

Smith stood up for his team against a much bigger guy. Got beat easily.

Beat him like a drum

Posted by The Mad House on January 15, 2018 at 01:33 PM

Sheesh now Reaves even has a bad dude to stand up for him.. Pens are the the toughest team in the league now with those two Good on them for carrying two of the baddest in the NHL Smith absolutely flattened Reaves with that hit Good to see him stand up for himself against a much bigger guy The Big Rig gets the W

Dom in 4

The "Big O" slaps Smith around to get the nod. That had to make Reaves feel good for a change.

Posted by nait on January 16, 2018 at 12:26 PM

Oleksiak might have won the fight but Smith got the more important win by sending Reaves the message “you can be leveled with clean hits too”

Posted by mjt3567 on January 16, 2018 at 01:46 PM

no contest

Posted by saapgh on January 15, 2018 at 07:38 PM

Oleksiak and Reeves make the Pens a force to be reckoned with!! No real damage, but Smith is lucky the refs stopped in. I don't really understand why these fighters risk breaking their knuckles by repeatedly slamming into helmwts and visors.

Smith destroyed gets about 3 weak hits in

Posted by TrueBlue16 on January 15, 2018 at 06:56 PM

Rangers fighting? Am I seeing this correctly?!?!

Posted by bhamill on January 15, 2018 at 02:45 PM

Not that Reaves needs someone standing up for him but good for Oleksiak. Clean hit on Reaves, who'd been throwing his own weight around, Smith knocked him on his ass. Definitely the win to Oleksiak, but honestly the only damage sustained appeared to be to his knuckles. Old Time Hockey and nobody got hurt.

Posted by jimama on January 17, 2018 at 11:05 AM

Didn't see the game but Smith kind of got jumped. Those 2 in the Pens lineup may give the others more room to make plays (and allow more cheapshots from Cindy hahaha). Hmmm... 3 in a row perhaps?

Posted by dogginit on January 16, 2018 at 03:05 PM

Great hit by Smith, totally clean. No punchs landed by Oleksiak in the fight, just deflected off shoulder pads, nothing to it.. Draw Todays NHL, you make a good solid hit and everyone crys.

Posted by Humper on January 15, 2018 at 11:19 AM

Smith finds out what it's like to be pummeled by a mutant.

Posted by Bigtimbrr on January 15, 2018 at 11:32 PM

Reeves ran enough Rangers, and then props to Smith to pop Reeves. The NHL is starting to SUCK! What has happen to the good hits? A good hit results in a fight, and most of the fights are boring because of the poor skills.
