Always good to see a couple of non-fighters duke it out. The Swede takes advantage of his size to score a clear win here.

Ericsson risks a trade by bucking the Red Wing's strict decade-long non-fighting policy... while MacKinnon gains respect by taking matters into his own hands despite a losing effort PS Has anyone heard the hilarious "Do something" Maple Leafs parody song??? Funny stuff

MacKinnon: Hey! Ow! Ericsson: Sorry. Would you feel better if we fought a little? MacKinnon: Yes, please. Thanks. Ericsson: OK. MacKinnon: Grab! Punch! Ericsson: Punch! Punch punch! MacKinnon: This was a bad idea. Ericsson: I'm tired. MacKinnon: Throw me down on to the ice. Ericsson. Agreed. (End scene)

Love to see guys like this throw down. Give Ericsson the win.

I guess Ericsson .....I loved the unnatural way he drops his gloves has he ever fought before? Wings are turning into a real goon team

A right by Wah. A right by Wah. A right by Wah. Oops, wrong fight. Win Ericsson.

Come in here, and let the big bear get his paws on ya...

Far from Old School hockey. Draw

Nothing to see here. Just another Red Wing goon pounding away on a hapless Western Conference foe.

Nice to see the kid stand up for himself. The fight was win Ericsson but, hey he was a 1st overall pick and he dropped the gloves for himself.. Love it.

Ericsson let up when he shouldve finished strong Decent show by the kid in his first bout

Big E showed respect for the other player by holding back at the end. There are a lot of players that could learn from that.

First Draft pick vs. Last Draft Pic.

Great job by MacKinnon for standing up for himself! Ericsson is a big, slow, turn over machine on "D" for Detroit but he pretty much demolishes the kid in this one. This is one job Ericsson could do for the very soft Red Wings...he's pretty much useless on "D" but the Wings can't do anything with him because of his salary. I had to laugh at the "another Red Wing goon" comment. They've never had a goon, just tough guys that could flat out play. They haven't had a real fighter/enforcer type since McCarty retired. All Ericsson.

Okay, so now we know that MacKinnon can't fight.

Posted by bigmike53 on February 05, 2015 at 09:55 PM

Two unlikely combatants have at here. IMO Ericsson gets the win in this tilt.

Posted by doobi1 on February 06, 2015 at 09:26 AM

Well, for a team that rarely dukes it out, they sure took this one. Ericsson all over Kid Mac in this one for the win.

I'm sure Colorados management was watching with their hearts in their throats but I loved it. Well done Nathan. Don't make a habit of it but well done. Win Ericsson

McKinnon answers the bell but leaves his visored helmet on. Proceeds to get battered notwithstanding. Ericsson remembers towards the end of the fight that he is recovering from a broken finger and decides to ease off.

wow mackinnon.i was surprised the young star initiated this fight against bigger and more experienced 'fighter' to got his 1st nhl fighting major.he couldnt overcome ericsson's long reach but he didnt look that awful as i expected him to.threw a couple haymakers too.i would like to see opposite angle to see where it landed.

Win to the kid for standing up for himself. Lost the battle, but winning the war. Sky's the limit. Needs to add some numbers, but it looks like he's lost some of the weight he put on over the off season.

I'm not sure with the voting here... Sure Ericsson is noticeably stronger and bigger, but Ericsson seems to have landed to better blows, giving him the win.

Posted by bruins2012 on February 06, 2015 at 09:05 AM

Surprisingly good fight. I came here to look up something else but had to watch McKinnon's first fight and I'm glad to see he handled himself pretty well for a first time fighter that is mostly a scorer. Gonna actually give it a draw because Ericsson controlled him for the most part but I thought Nathan actually landed the two best punches.

Posted by kkdowning on February 06, 2015 at 04:10 PM

LOL -- at the end of the fight, Ericsson looked terminally bored.

Posted by Lapointe20 on February 07, 2015 at 02:33 PM

Ericsson, one of three Wings (Abdelkader and Smith) who don’t have their gloves stitched on, actually uses his leverage and reach to his advantage for a change. The Surly Swede and a 5. P.S. Great Murray: You’re forgetting one tough customer that had some very memorable fights wearing the winged wheel: Aaron Downey. Will never forget his tilt with Janssen...

Ericsson manhandled Mac. Nice to see a Red Wing in a fight this year, and actually a win at that.

Posted by barks1513 on February 05, 2015 at 10:00 PM

Clearly people are going to call Ericsson the winner as he is bigger and threw more shots. But I am old school. Only one dude had a bloody nose at the end and he isn't from this continent. Only two punches landed that were meaningful in this bout. Which makes this a draw. Period. Sometimes quantity doesn't beat quality.

How weak when you get beat by a european and a red wing.
