Seems as if both Pennsylvania teams are sharing the title of douche masters of the nhl this year

Posted by Elegance on December 20, 2013 at 07:26 PM

Usually i try to hold the Penguins to a higher standard and will call them out on cheap shots. However, i can see where those late ground shots are coming from, pure anger. Good for Neal stepping up and defending himself, but why the hell is a 40 goal scorer fighting, someone on this weak Penguins squad has to do something. Win Neal, not a great fight, better than nothing. Ballard sure has a pension of going super low on guys.

Nice to see Neal drop the mitts. Credit to him for standing up for himself. Not a great fight but nice to see Ballard get knocked down, followed by another punch by Neal.

edge neal in a size mismatch

Posted by kkdowning on December 21, 2013 at 10:03 AM

Now, that one looked low -- but because it is Neal (something about people with that family name), I can forgive it.

NHL newsflash: "no more fighting or hitting allowed in hockey" Ridiculous. I may as well start watching soccer.

Posted by travist on December 26, 2013 at 12:08 PM

neal would know what a cheap shot is...

Posted by chad420 on December 20, 2013 at 11:45 AM

Win Kip Winger

Too bad Ballard can't fight as good as he checks. He would be a beast.

Posted by Amerkfan8 on December 20, 2013 at 06:57 PM

Not sure why Ballard got a penalty there. In any case, Neal wins the fight.

Posted by CG3 on December 20, 2013 at 08:26 PM

I'm sure Neal visualized Marchand's head while he was swinging away.

Posted by IMPEACH on December 31, 2013 at 12:51 PM

Neal might be the dirtiest player I've ever seen, after perhaps the young Dale Hunter, so it was nice to see Ballard go at him with a bit of an edge. One of these days Neal is going to be Orpik-ed.

Posted by tpr1960 on December 21, 2013 at 09:37 AM

Great hip check, old time hockey. At least Neal actually dropped his mittens. Only shame is the hit didnt tear his ligaments.

Posted by flyerguy on December 21, 2013 at 01:42 PM

I'll never vote for Neal because he's a low life coward who just got a dose of Karma! He deserves what he gets, and then some

Posted by arabhata on December 20, 2013 at 03:13 PM

Ballard landed only good shot

Posted by Renslips on December 20, 2013 at 01:22 PM

I hate Ballard But again I fail to see the issue with the hip-check albeit Neal is much taller than Kobasew Neal was admiring his pass. Of course Neal wins the fight After taking exception to the perceived low-blow Still a worthless fight. Neal and a 4 at best.

Posted by slavv on December 20, 2013 at 07:37 PM

Never liked Ballard, and this is a reason why. Neal let him hang in better than he should have, but still got the win....

Posted by ageno20 on December 21, 2013 at 09:10 AM

Gotta love pens players firing punches after they get smoked on clean hits, yet when Orpic drops questionable open ice hits they condone him not stepping up and dropping the mits. Don't tell me good for Neal and then not call out orpic.

Posted by DrJohnnyFever on December 20, 2013 at 03:53 PM

Nothing wrong with that hit but still a win for James Kneel.

Posted by Behn Wilson on December 20, 2013 at 02:56 PM

The "Hipster" is at it again embarrassing opponents into beating him up's a living Neal pays homage to his Senators' namesake with some cheap late ground shots

Posted by pbortzrealtor on December 20, 2013 at 06:45 PM

Win Neal!!

Posted by ghjkfdhgfd on December 20, 2013 at 07:10 PM

Too bad Neals legs didn't explode.... -Neal

Posted by shawn46 on December 20, 2013 at 03:22 PM

The first was classic.... the second I would love to see from another angle my first thought was.... Darius Kasparaitis??? You back my boy?! Where you been! I swore I saw Ballard singing the Big & Rich tune.. "Why does everybody want to kick my Ass"

Posted by yngblonde1 on December 20, 2013 at 07:49 PM

Ballard is a smaller guy that hits people low..If he continues to do that he will get beat up every game..Its not head hunting but some knee injuries are career ending as well....

Posted by Pens3Cups on December 20, 2013 at 11:41 AM

Big Game James with the win...

Posted by endor on December 20, 2013 at 11:59 AM

Bush league shot by Ballard. Neal with the win. Hits like that deserve an ass whoopin'! This is why fighting in the NHL must remain a part of the game!!

Posted by EK65 on December 20, 2013 at 02:52 PM

Win J.Neal

Posted by bigmike53 on December 20, 2013 at 12:14 PM

Ballard likes to go low and get beat up! Win Neal.

Posted by RepublicofHonor on December 22, 2013 at 07:29 AM

Neal defended himself he was the clear aggressor.

Posted by francoisleroux on December 20, 2013 at 01:20 PM

If I got hit like that I'd probably drop the gloves too... But then if I threw that hit, I'd say it was a beaut and love it... If Ballard played like this every game, the Canucks may have played/kept him, although management would not have liked it, what with the playing with heart and emotion and whatnot...

Posted by Sasky001 on December 21, 2013 at 05:00 PM

The beatings will continue until morale improves. When you are sending a message you get a pass for punching a guy when he is down. Policing doesn't work if you let the guy turtle. Ballard really does belong in Canuck silks.

Posted by srehm1 on December 22, 2013 at 11:49 AM

Neal lands better for the win.

Posted by staceyb on December 20, 2013 at 01:51 PM

I was watching this one and I don't blame Neal for blowing a gasket. That cheap low bridge by Ballard can tear an opponent's ACL.

Posted by Jesticle on December 21, 2013 at 03:12 PM

Neal with the win after another clean hit by Ballard.

Posted by bruins34 on December 21, 2013 at 05:16 PM

Win for Neal, especially at the end of the fight. He was right to stick up for himself after the low hit. Maybe it will make him rethink some of the cheap hits he doles out himself. Cross ice hits are becoming a thing of the past with Shanny at the helm. If Ballard goes high, it's a blind-sided head shot and guaranteed suspension. Still, don't know how Ballard doesn't get a game or two out of this with the way things are these days. @EFP--thank you. I haven't laughed that hard in awhile

Posted by sulley71 on December 20, 2013 at 12:04 PM

Win to Neal. I'd be pissed to after that hit!

Posted by Great Murray on December 20, 2013 at 12:26 PM

This one was even worse...a really dirty play. Every guy in league will go after Ballard for this chit.

Posted by MStu on December 20, 2013 at 11:15 AM

Win Neal. After tonight, Ballard might want to rethink low hits if he's going to have to fight after each one.

Posted by rigweigh on December 20, 2013 at 01:45 PM

Ballard needs to be fined for those low hits. If the league doesnt' crack down him, then the players need to continue to police him themselves. Can't blame anyone for not liking cheap shots at the knees.

Posted by Pens1 on December 23, 2013 at 12:40 PM

Nealer, handling business the right way. Wish he would have beaten Marchand like that, although Marchand would not have dropped the gloves... Ballard went low several times during the game and Pens needed to send the message.. Win for Nealer, Pens need to hand out more knuckle sandwiches...

Posted by boldbilly on December 20, 2013 at 12:21 PM

Neal with the win cheap low hit by Ballard than he goes and stands in front of Neal like a tough guy and proceeds to get his cheap ass handed to him......easy win Neal

Posted by 87CROSBY87 on December 20, 2013 at 09:42 PM

Still trying to locate "all those late shots"... One attempt at a punch no damage; and a second half-hearted stopped by ref Win - Neal

Posted by Gbuck18 on December 21, 2013 at 09:18 PM

I didn't know Neal could fight

Posted by JohnnyLoose on April 17, 2014 at 07:41 PM

Neal just obliterated Ballard

Posted by nait on December 20, 2013 at 06:29 PM

aww the cheap hitting Neal doesn't lie being hit by a cheap shot himself. poor baby

Posted by King of Goons on December 20, 2013 at 10:30 PM

Neal pulls a Lucic and punches Ballard before he knows he's in a fight. It's hard to give a victory to a coward, but Ballard pretty much got waxed here. Win for the sly-rapping pansy, Neal.

Posted by J.R. Abel on December 20, 2013 at 08:34 PM

lame once again from 2 non fighters. And YES to MONEYBAGS, James Neil is terrified of Brad Marchand. As is the rest of the NHL.

Posted by Mounty in NC on December 20, 2013 at 09:38 PM

Neal destroys Ballard after Ballard delivers a cheap shot to the knees. And look at the homers from Minnie....I guess they had to give their boy some love LOL

Posted by slarrivee11 on December 20, 2013 at 07:56 PM

ballard landed a nice one

Posted by Puckstopper30 on December 21, 2013 at 08:34 AM

What....Neal and the Pens dont like questionable hits?...ohh...only when it happens to them....hypocrites from Lemieux, Samuelsson, Cooke to Crosby, Neal Engelland etc...cry and complain and do the same crap and get suspended. Yup, low hit on a piece of crap like Neal....Ballard got tuned up a bit but hung in there. A gross organization, barely a step above Buffalo.

Posted by moneybags on December 20, 2013 at 02:00 PM

Neal knows all about cheap shots...ask Marchand....see you in Boston Neal
