Mayars attempts some payback but Torres "squirmily" holds his own in an uneventful spin-o-rama draw

Posted by cbroom on February 08, 2013 at 10:59 AM

Draw, at best.

Posted by bruins rule on February 23, 2013 at 09:53 AM

pretty even fight.

Why are comments not working?

decent scrap, draw.

Posted by talister106 on February 08, 2013 at 10:46 AM

Good fight by both , draw.

Posted by AC1026 on February 08, 2013 at 06:40 AM

Torres looking for a change and Mayers challenges him. I call it a draw. If Torres is fresh it may have been different.

Posted by brdhntr on February 09, 2013 at 02:20 PM

It was OK, for who the Hawks have on the roster, it got the job done.

Posted by Erictml87654 on February 11, 2013 at 07:34 AM

Tough fight. Torres didn't really get as many punches as would have expected.

Posted by DARCY T on February 08, 2013 at 10:14 AM

torres had it coming for that hit on hossa in last season's 1st play off round and im glad he obliged....not many punches connecting.draw in a spirited fight...6

Posted by Sasky001 on February 09, 2013 at 01:52 PM

Mayers doing what he does best, fighting to a draw. No message sent here. Let Bollig handle the dirty work next time.

Posted by Mounty in NC on February 09, 2013 at 10:43 PM

That was a pretty good fight....and if you voted on this fight from an outsiders eyes, it's an easy draw. I'm pretty sure Hawks fans voted for their guy and the Yotes voted for theirs. Both got licks in and finished at a solid draw

Posted by SURESHOT27 on February 08, 2013 at 10:30 AM

Great camera work boys! One of the most anticipated fight nights and you can't get a camera on it from start to finish. I can't see a clear winner in this footage.....but my hat is off to Jamal. I want Bollig next time to take care of him.

Posted by OlKoot on February 08, 2013 at 11:44 AM

Pretty good tilt. Looked like a draw to me.

Posted by hawkwing24 on February 09, 2013 at 08:48 PM

Torres is a cheap shot dick...... this again no fight- lame excuses this year... best shots Mayers- best dance score 2/10

Posted by staceyb on February 08, 2013 at 05:03 AM

We all know what that was about and Jamal almost pulled it off.

Posted by cible on February 08, 2013 at 01:58 AM

I would have liked bollig to take care of him...i don't get it, the guy takes out one of your best player and you send the no3 ranked fighter on your team?!?!

Posted by sdybowski2 on February 11, 2013 at 10:02 PM

Mayers landed the better bombs

Posted by sulley71 on February 08, 2013 at 10:03 AM

Mayers with the edge, nice shot at the end! Would like to see Torres pay a bigger price next time they play, hopefully Bollig's hand stitches are out by then.

Posted by GreatMurray on February 08, 2013 at 10:35 AM

Chicago needed to send out a tougher guy. Torres deserves a beat down...he didn't get it. Close, so so fight with Mayers winning by a slight margin.

Posted by pk8692 on February 08, 2013 at 10:24 AM

personally i would have rather seen bollig pound torres

Posted by bammer24 on February 08, 2013 at 01:08 PM

Mayers landed some heavy shots to edge out Torres.

Posted by suzabel65 on February 08, 2013 at 02:09 AM

More Torres blood on the ice would have made this fight better.

Posted by jacmaxt2 on February 07, 2013 at 10:30 PM

Torres was stunned by a right

Posted by dspear on February 08, 2013 at 07:00 AM

Torres is a punk; deserves a much better beating

Posted by CW66 on February 07, 2013 at 10:37 PM

Mayers landed 2 good shots towards the end. Edge to Mayers in a close scrap.

Posted by kimo_coyote on February 08, 2013 at 01:40 PM

Give edge to Jamal, easily a draw.....okay now the Hossa thing is done, enough already.

Posted by The Mad House on February 08, 2013 at 12:54 AM

Very predictable scrap here, everyone knew a fight would happen and most likely with Jamal Mayers. Good scrap as Mayers landed early and Torres late, slight edge to Mayers in this one.

Posted by Orig6 on February 08, 2013 at 10:49 AM

Why have the comments viewer been down for the past couple days? I'm anxious to see all the Hawks-haters opinions on this scrap. The only credit Torres deserves is for answering the bell on this. Before and after that he's still a cheap POS. He has hockey skills that the Yotes could have used in the playoffs that may have taken them farther. Then again, I don't think they would have gotten past the Hawks last year if he hadn't taken out Hossa. And even though he had to answer for that Hossa hit last night, he hurt them because it was all Hawks after that scrap. Kudos to Mayers. It was great to see him take the role and I'm sure there was a long line of Hawks wanting this scrap. But after Duncan stepped up on Tuesday when Mayers was leveled by Desjardins, it was only fitting that he step up here. The Hawks are a great team and are showing it in all facets.

Posted by pooleyacht on February 08, 2013 at 12:12 PM

Giving this one to Mayers for policing his team and sticking up for Hossa. This is the only sport in the world where it's honorable to stick up for your team with your fists, even a year later. Hockey players have a long memory and don't forgive. Thank god for the NHL.

Was anyone within a 5000 mile radius surprised by this? Thug Torres needed a little reminder about why messing with Hoss was a bad idea. Both the fight and the game were vivid illustrations of the cream rising to the top, even if it took a couple of months (and a 100+ day lockout) for it to occur. Go Hawks!

Posted by saxman210 on February 08, 2013 at 12:31 PM

Mayers knew that someone had to step up and drop the gloves with arguably the dirtiest player in the league after what he did to one of the most stand-up players in the league last year. Torres definitely got what was coming to him, and I don't think you've seen the last of the Hawks going after Raffi.

Posted by New Lifer on February 08, 2013 at 11:24 AM

Torres is a dirty player

Posted by kartkid024 on February 08, 2013 at 08:58 AM

I think he got the win anyway, but considering the situation, Mayers could have taken 8 to the face and left out cold on the ice, but as long as he lands one square to the face of Torres like he did. Its a win for Mayers.

Posted by stizzo on February 10, 2013 at 08:38 AM

So... For revenge, you're sending out geriatric Jamal... You've great fighter like Bollig and Mayers gets the tap on the shoulder - Torres must have waiting the rest of the game for a real challenge

Posted by bhamill on February 08, 2013 at 11:01 AM

I was expecting to see a Mayers win, but I saw a very close fight. I gave the win to Torres instead of a draw simply because it looks like he was into a shift and Mayers was fresh off of the bench. I know everyone hates Torres for his "questionable" hits, but the fight is the fight regardless of who is a more popular.

Posted by pepsigenerate on February 08, 2013 at 11:31 AM

Torres still spanked the Chicago Blackhawks, winner Torres

Posted by puckmuncher on February 08, 2013 at 03:47 AM

I dont see how all these guys think Nayers won that...Raffi clearly got more punches in, and dropped him.

Posted by nait on February 08, 2013 at 10:13 AM

If your gonna come off the bench with fresh legs you better win the fight. Mayers did not do that

Posted by Bhammer87 on February 08, 2013 at 02:10 AM

Mayers lands nothing and flops to the ice. How does Mayers get the win?

Posted by Notsince15 on August 14, 2022 at 03:28 AM

Special place in hell for Raffi Torres. Biggest cheap shot artist in league history. Prob afraid to step foot in chicago. Should be too.

Posted by nuckles88 on February 08, 2013 at 01:44 AM

Win raffi, landed way more blows and took him down. But let me get this straight, the Blackhawks insist Torres answer the bell for a hit that was borderline, sure thats fine. But when one of their stars delivers a flying elbow to one of Vancouvers star players, the canucks are just supposed to get over it? More BS from another classless organization

Posted by jnk07899 on February 08, 2013 at 09:45 AM

I wish they would've set this fight up off of a faceoff. I also wish the feed would've showed Torres' hit last year that led to this fight. I give it to Torres though.

Posted by Bloodbank on February 09, 2013 at 11:47 PM

Mayers was not expecting that!

Posted by dodson77 on February 09, 2013 at 12:37 AM

Jamal had the better shots. This fight was a long time coming. The NHL knew what they were doing by booking Torres's first game back from suspension against the Hawks. No delay! Get it done and get back to playing hockey.

Drawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!Any other vote was made by a Homer!

Posted by SapperBeast on February 08, 2013 at 04:06 PM

Mayers has always been a wuss. Never liked him ever since his time with the Blues

Posted by LouCat40 on February 08, 2013 at 09:29 AM

Tough fight to call, I thought Mayers landed a real nice right but Torres took it well. Even.

Posted by LordKOTL on February 08, 2013 at 04:24 PM

Solid draw and a prety good scrap. Both fighters missed and connected about the same and both seemed to "pull each other to the ice". On a side note, I don't think this qualifies as "answering the bell" for Torres. Those that remember the blindside hit will also remember that Bollig tried to make him answer the bell and Torres either turtled, of felt his menses running down his leg and had to asjust his tampon--I couldn't tell for sure from the camera angle. Cherry-picking who you face for taking liberties on another team's players does not qualify as answering the bell.

Posted by BritishRedWing on February 08, 2013 at 07:15 PM

Win for Mayers, but very close to a draw. Torres deserved more of a beatdown, but I guess this is all Chicago could muster.

Posted by Raoul Duke on February 08, 2013 at 09:57 AM

Horribly timed fight for Mayers, and not enough vengeance. Torres needs another go.

Posted by Bob Probert 24 on February 08, 2013 at 06:48 AM

Torres knew it was coming...probably didnt know from whom. Both traded right hands. Mayers connected more often. Fight changed the momentum of the game.Win-Win for Chicago.

Posted by kkdowning on February 10, 2013 at 02:39 PM

Mayers takes the win as he stunned Torres and dropped him to a knee. Torres took the fight willingly though, so kudos to him
