It's funny how people always want to line up to say the Flyers are dirty, blah, blah, blah. If you saw this game (or any other Penguins game) you see Crosby constantly slashing guys and running his yap (when he's not punching people in the balls from behind). He gets bumped by Schenn, and in his typical way he falls like he's been shot, and rather to look to see who hit him like a real man would, he looks to see if there's gonna be call. The Pens are the classless aggressors here, as anyone who watches the clip can see Asham punching guys being held by his teammates, and Engelland throwing his first two punches at Simmonds from behind. Gave Engelland the win for what he did in the fight, but he doesn't gain any points for attacking from behind a guy twenty pounds lighter with half his face stitched up. Should be a fun first round series. PS-... and for the record, natedawg, i didn't say vitale's hit was classless, i didn't comment on it at all because i had no problem with it. stop reading what you want instead of what i wrote.

Engelland with the win here but the Highlight of the Video was Kubina Taking the Jake "the Snake" Roberts Signature DDT!!

Posted by FreeCandy on April 01, 2012 at 06:14 PM

If you put your hand over the top half of the video you'll see Engelland buckle Simmonds's knees. Overshadowed by the sideshow, though. I was excited to see Engelland v Simmonds on the list but after clicking on it I'm sure this will draw out many vapid internet arguments where homers will call the other team "classless" (because "classless" is the new c-word and all) and that gets old quickly. In short, win for Engelland and it's everybody's fault. Next!

Posted by Damian7979 on April 02, 2012 at 11:03 AM

This fight was not close! Engelland treated Simmonds like a rag doll after he caught him with a big right hand. Simmonds pretty much held on for dear life after that. All Simmonds did was try n lock up Engelland's arms so he couldn't swing anymore. Wayne Simmonds is a tough dude but he is no match for Deryk Engelland! I hope these two square off again Saturday or in the playoffs and you'll see Engelland lay the smack down again! As far as size goes, Simmonds is bigger than Engelland buddy and he flat out got beat! Simmonds is 6' 2" 210 and Engelland is 6' 2" 202 and boo hoo Simmonds face was stitched up...if that was such a problem then maybe he shouldn't drop the gloves in the first place.

Who let Hulk Hogan into the building?

Posted by RebelliousArmy on April 01, 2012 at 04:18 PM

Good solid hit by Vitale and chaos errupts... DE gets an easy win and the Flyers coach is dumb getting mad about which line is out on the ice its hockey so you think the Pens just going to roll over then you shouldn't be coaching it's playoff time and a message was sent .... i look forward to seeing the game next week.

Posted by scorp1on on April 02, 2012 at 10:11 PM

Flyers fan since the mid-eighties... didn't see anything wrong with the hit and if the shoe were on the other foot I would want the Flyers to go down fighting like the Pens did. It's not like they called up Mac for the game so calm down fellow Flyers fans. No point in whining like Crosby about this. We all know the Flyers are pretty weak in the pugilism department regardless of haow many minutes they have and signing Carcillo while letting Asham walk was just plain stupid as we see here... but that game all but stops in the playoffs anyway, so who cares at this point in the season? As for the fight... Engelland tunes Simonds early, then they both rest for a bit until the zebra arrives. Simmonds doesn't back down but doesn't land anything more than a gentle facial noogey or two, so win Engelland.

Posted by McGuffin on April 01, 2012 at 05:38 PM

The problem with this situation is that there's one minute left in the game, the score is out of hand, with Philly leading by three, and Pittsburgh throws out their goons. Pittsburgh was looking to instigate in this situation. Still, the hit was clean. Why does Philly even need to go after Vitale for a clean hit? Philly took the bait and lost the fight. And Pittsburgh's plan ultimately was a rousing success. Philly wins the game. Pittsburgh wins everything else, including the psychological battle.

Posted by mjw2780 on April 01, 2012 at 04:44 PM

Cindy Crysby after slashing the Flyers about 5 times and getting away with it gets karma. Brayden Schenn crosschecks him to the ice. He probably felt better after the game when NBC and the refs lined up to give him bjs. I do not own this video, the NHL and NBC do.

Posted by PENGUINSCUP09 on April 01, 2012 at 04:47 PM

Engelland absolutely school Simmonds in a one sided tilt; while Asham sends a much deserved message and lesson to Schenn...

Posted by natedawg710 on April 01, 2012 at 09:45 PM

How are the Pens the "classless aggressors"? A clean hit and solid hit by Joe Vitale makes him classless? Did you even watch the video? And for the record Simmonds tried to jump Niskanen..One again watch the video before you post paragraphs of bs.

Posted by Leafs2006 on April 01, 2012 at 04:50 PM

Simmonds usually picks scraps with non fighters, like Chris Neil does, funny what happens when he gets tangled with a fighter, rag doll Simmonds, the useless P.O.S. And why didnt someone punch McGuire, the ass between the glass during this?

Posted by timm0 on April 01, 2012 at 08:03 PM

Pengiuns are a disgrace. Pathetic display. Flyers put out players assuming the Penguins will try to score. Penguins have last change but decide to throw out goons and take runs at guys instead of try to win the game. engelland jumps Simmonds who's a total mess from recent injuries - so for not doing the wise (but feeble) thing and turtling up to ensure he can play next game, Simmonds gets the win. I used to be a big fan of Asham. But I guess you can't help but make a foolish spectacle of yourself when playing for a team like Pittsburgh's. Pengiun pride!!! Losers...

Posted by upyours on April 01, 2012 at 08:59 PM

I have watched hockey for 40 years and many times saw the Flyers start brawls and the end of a game they were losing. Funny to see so many tears shed by Cryers fans when they get smacked around a little bit. Funnier still when they started the brawl themselves by reacting to a clean hit. Steak and cheese pacifiers for everyone in eastern PA!!!

simmond sucks

Posted by acd1 on April 01, 2012 at 04:54 PM

Enforcer vs 26 goal scorer. Enforcer doesn't score a decisive victory. LOL

Posted by slavv on April 02, 2012 at 12:30 AM

The camera director was more interested in the coaches cackling at each other than he was showing the fight. Simmonds is not in Engelland's league, however, so we all know how that one turned out. Too bad Pierre din't catch a knee or something during all this....

Posted by The Chief on April 03, 2012 at 08:10 AM

If Vitale wants to throw his weight around why don't he drop and defend his actions? Why have Engelland step in a and heavy punch the face of an already mangled Simmonds? Doesn't matter. Shelley will def be in the lineup on Saturday and considering his current status inthe lineup I bet he wouldn't mind a couple game suspension. Watch your back Sydney "Spongehead" Crosby the referees can't save you the whole game. I would expect to be a little dizzy again after Saturday. It's funny this fucking guy basically runs the referees......little pussy.....and the referees go for it ..... what crosby says refs do. Pathetic. Schenn pushes the spongehead and it starts and crosby gets a look on his face like he just sticked him in the teeth and cut off his foot. U pens better dress MacIntyre cause ur gonna need him.

Posted by von_swine on April 01, 2012 at 09:45 PM

you can tell Engelland took it easy on Wayne and didnt fill him in like he could have,..we all have seen how hard he can really chuck em if he wants to,..still, nice to see Schenn 'welcome back' Crosby,..wish more teams played him like that... Deryk FTW in a timewarp back to 1987,...

Posted by lb1631 on April 06, 2012 at 10:42 AM

Pittsburgh sucks gigantic balls. The cheapest team in the league withe the two biggest bitches in the league. Letang is a cheap pussy, Cooke is a douchebag, vitale is another toolbar. Saturday can't get here soon enough.

Posted by The DZA on April 02, 2012 at 07:20 AM

Simmonds should bring Engelland into the depths of Scarborough West Hill. I guarantee a different result would happen.

Engelland all the way, one sided fight

Posted by rags1965 on April 01, 2012 at 04:21 PM

This melee stemmed from the Schenn cheap shop at Crosby earlier and Schenn showed his cowardice for not wanting the middle weight champion while Simmons continued to eat Engelland rights one after another. The Vitale hit was clean and Laviolette was out of line. The Flyers should have just played on but didnt and paid a price. The Flyers have no toughness and can't dress Shelly against tough teams because he is a punching bag and he can only turn momentum in the opposite after getting worked by Engelland or Asham in a potential fight should that situation arise. This is why Big Mac isnt in Pittsburgh, nobody will fight him and when he dresses all the other teams don't dressed their goons.

Posted by DBrown23 on April 02, 2012 at 08:58 AM

Its funny what people say about Simmer. There is a reason Simmer doesn't go against many other "fighters." Simmer and his 27 goals are a reason for every fighter to go after him, and every reason for him to say no to them. In LA we miss Simmer like crazy, he is a straight beast, nothing else needs to be said. That being said he is the first player in a scrum and the last one to leave. I think anyone who talks bad about Simmer is crazy. As a Kings fan I have been hoping he would let Malkin have it for something he did to Simmer after (yes after the game) a game 3 years ago, nobody else on the Kings did anything about it because Cliffy was not playing, and when it comes to fighting the rest of the Kings team just won't do it. As far as the dealio. Solid hit by Vitale, I liked the response from the Flyers. Move on. Oh and I like to protect my officials, Asham can sit the remainder of the regular season for going after someone being held by an linesman, no matter who it was, or how much they deserved it.

Posted by chl37 on April 02, 2012 at 08:23 AM

easy win for engelland. Your my hero coach. Peter "hold back, hold me back" Lavioltte". Next time if really want at someone then jump down from the 2 ft perch and just do it, and hold the theatrics. Apparently if your a fourth line player you are not permitted to cleanly check opposing players when playing the Flyers.

Posted by bigpucks on April 01, 2012 at 11:05 PM

DE beat Simmonds as he should. Clean hit lead to a lot a whining.

Posted by Hkmert1 on April 01, 2012 at 04:16 PM

Great Open Ice hit on Danny Briere starts it all off... Deryk has control in this tilt... Winner Engelland

Posted by staceyb on April 01, 2012 at 06:39 PM

Props to Simmonds for stepping up but then getting pounded by Engelland. The guy has taken pucks to the mouth, including yesterday, but then this. I hope the team has good health care coverage. The fight I'd pay to see is Chief Berube (in his prime) with Arron Asham.

Posted by icebreaker2 on April 01, 2012 at 08:32 PM

Easy win for Engel and anyone that saw if differently is kidding themselves. Been watching hockey for 40+ years and was confused about why the penalty on Schenn was cancelled out. The explanation I heard is that there can't be a goal and a penalty on the same stoppage of play. Somebody help me out here, if that's the case you could do anything you want after every goal that's scored? If that's true you would think this would happen more often but maybe that puts Schenn in the running for Punk of the Year. Lastly any fan of any team that talks about taking any player out by injury is not a fan but a 100% moron that needs to be dragged out back and taught some lessons. These are the true classless people and they come off looking just like the stupid idiots that they obviously are, tough guys on a keyboard. Lastly although I don't really care for Scott Hartnell that Hogan deal was the funniest thing I've seen it awhile.

Posted by theKill280 on April 01, 2012 at 08:20 PM

NBC- Nother Broadcast for Crosby.... Sick and tired of this whining pussy getting away w everything just because hes an elite player... how many slashing penalties should she have had today, seriously?? oh yea and DE wins the fight whoopty do

Posted by shawn46 on April 02, 2012 at 11:47 AM

Forever... the credo has been.."when playing the flyers don't get up by three and don't get down by three".... They wore it like a badge of courage... but turn it around and cry like the gutless pu**ies that they are from the filthy-ist hole in PA.

Posted by kimo_coyote on April 01, 2012 at 04:43 PM

Engeland wins. Wayne still growing these are learning lessons. Now Phila has last line change next game. Be interesting who gets sent out to greet Sid. As they say "payback is a bitch." Phila wasn't hitting Sid early on and he got "cocky" and then it was game on. Got to love this rivalry and "I don't have a dog in the fight."

Posted by GaryBusey on April 04, 2012 at 09:12 PM

Very thoughtful of Engelland to even out the symmetry of Simmonds face. One eye closed by a puck, the other by a fist....

Posted by kevinator63 on April 03, 2012 at 09:19 PM

good scrap, with Wayne getting beat fair and square. The playoffs should be rocking...GO KINGS!!!

Posted by Hayseed on April 01, 2012 at 04:07 PM

Simmonds winds up drawing the short straw and taking a whooping for it.

Posted by fenians79 on April 02, 2012 at 03:49 AM

I get the 4th line argument...however it was a clean shoulder to shoulder hit....everytime a guy gets hit now a fight erupts.....I guess we should just ban hitting and that would end the fighting that people are always whining about getting rid of. Love how Crosby is always yapping and never doing anything but slashing people.

Posted by BruinFightsFan on April 02, 2012 at 12:20 AM

Posted by chrisnelson on April 01, 2012 at 06:41 PM

Posted by bammer24 on April 04, 2012 at 09:20 PM

Ah that smell is finally back in the air Playoff Hockey. How much do you wanna bet that Berube has to take a ton of Xanax to act that way because years ago he would have killed the whole Pittsburgh Team.So everytime Sid falls the whole team is pre-occupied with that all the time.Might be a short playoffs for the Pens.Next thing you`ll hear is they will call up MacIntyre to play on his line.I hate Pre -Madonnas.I can`t wait for the rematch lets see if the Pens dress Cindy.See these guys fight the right guys this time.

Posted by probie4life on April 02, 2012 at 02:11 AM

From what you could see of the fight, Engelland landed some good shots and Simmonds didn't land any. The star players like Crosby, Malkin and Ovechkin are always slashing, taking runs and running their mouths and they KNOW they're protected! Get rid of the instigator penalty and see how fast a lot of the cheap shots end. Side note: Craig Berube was the toughest guy on either bench today!

Posted by mrunohoo on April 02, 2012 at 12:52 AM

My favorite part is Briere just skates off the ice, wanting no part of the melee (proly a good idea) and Vitale, who threw the hit, is left wandering arounding just kinda shrugging. That or Pierre trying not to make eye contact with either of the pissed off coaches.

Posted by Jellyczar on April 01, 2012 at 09:01 PM

Engelland wins the fight easily against Simmonds, who is over rated as a player and a fighter. Clean hard hit by Vitale..... enough said. Philly is still remains the classless franchise since the 70"s....

Posted by PKisel34 on April 01, 2012 at 04:12 PM

Former US Olympic teammates and Ranger draft picks in Laviolette and Granato. Probably know each other pretty well. Win Engelland

Posted by hkhk on April 01, 2012 at 10:25 PM

this is why the flyers should always dress there enforcer for this crap if shelley in there thi sdoesnt happen with lavy behind the bench the flyers will no llonger be a tough team yes they fight but how many wins out of 60 fights 20,the days of brown kordic berube and such are over my flyer friends long live the mighty midget in rinaldo is game but hes not stopping anyone from running at flyers , holmgren used to do this stuff all the time so as a flyers fan we cant complain

Posted by rforjr on April 01, 2012 at 08:24 PM

Great clean hit. Laviolette is a joke. Roll out your lines and shut up. Makes a big production of it so he can look like a tough guy. 24/7 showed he is a complete jagoff. Anyone who plays Rinaldo Shelley and Sestito can't complain. Can't imagine the crying he'd do if someone laid a hit like Sestitio's on Horton on one if his guys. Not a fan of either team but I am looking forward to this first round matchup. Crosby is a huge crybaby, but Rinaldo should not even be allowed to speak to him.

Engelland wins too bad we didn't get a line brawl

Posted by cribbdeath on April 03, 2012 at 12:23 AM

it's humorous to hear Flyer fans use the word classless. Your whole franchise and team history is built on after the whistle cheap shots. This is no different, it just didn't end the way the Flyers wanted so your all tearing up. Vitale's hit is clean and 4 Flyers went after him, but uh oh, Asham and Engelland were on the ice. Let's not forget a true classless act when Hartnell bit Kris Letang 3 years ago! And I'm sure Crosby could care less about all the haters considering he is hands down by far the best player in the world right now. The Flyers couldn't package together 5 players that would even make Shero consider trading Crosby for. Success breeds contempt and considering the Penguins consistently beat Philly in the playoffs I can understand all the hate. But for it to be a real rivalry one team has to win a game that counts once in a while and lets face it, Philly never does. Have fun getting rolled once again in the playoffs Philthadelphia, and thanks for the virtual first round bye! That said, Engelland wins the fight hands down.

Posted by bcampoli on April 02, 2012 at 02:58 PM

Easy win DE. Good bout. Hit was clean. Not sure why the dumbest coach in the league was so upset. Pitt was simply setting the tone for the playoffs and sending a message. Philadelphia has done it many times before. Dumb Coach should know better.

Posted by hobbs57 on April 01, 2012 at 09:26 PM

It appears Simmonds was hiding in this fight, due to his recent injury. England took it easy on him, as I suspect he knows of the injury Simmonds had. England man handled Simmonds like the yapping rag doll he is.....The Flyers are about to learn they aren't going to win in this department. Wait till next Saturday. They may have got the Pens number, but they pushed it one to many times and it will be a different game from here on out.Washington had to learn this lesson last time the Pens won the Cup.

Posted by PhillyPhan8 on April 02, 2012 at 01:38 AM

All the pens fans say it was a clean hit and the Flyers had no reason to get pissed off, what if the pens were up by 3 goals with a minute left and Rinaldo hits Cindy like that?? you telling me nobody is going to stick up for him?? you would all be crying for a suspension.

Posted by xycer on April 02, 2012 at 05:36 PM

@cup4theflyers, Let's see if you can stay on your skates when being shoved from behind not expecting it. Any other NHL player in that situation would've stayed down to try to draw a call. It's not like Crosby acted like he was hurt... he was just letting the refs know that he was shoved from behind. Not agreeing with the fact that Bylsma put that line out there, but I don't have anything against what Asham did to Schenn, nor do I have a problem with Vitale's hit on Briere. You can't shove a star like Crosby and not expect some retaliation, and it's not necessarily Crosby's job to do so. But quite honestly, I think Crosby could more than handle himself against Schenn seeing how terrible Schenn is at fighting.

Posted by DARCY T on April 01, 2012 at 05:15 PM

good stuff here...good clean hit on briere.they just showed couple seconds of engelland vs simmonds fight but i gave it a 7 just for the whole scrum...win engelland.he is at least one level above wayne's weight class too bad nobody didnt smack stick over laviolette's head

Posted by crashandbang on April 01, 2012 at 10:44 PM

All Engo in this one! Wayne should stick to deflecting pucks in the net with that ugly mug of his lol he's lucky he didn't get KO'ed:) As for that punk Schenn, it was worth the loss to see Asham feed him his visor...don't mess with the stars or you'll be seeing them. Crosby haters, funny thing, it's ALWAYS you who do the whining lmao Pens own the refs, NBC and the dog ate my homework, get a life idiots! And have you ever been to Philly, talk about a toilet...Flyer fans have the IQ of the average ghetto crackhead! 1975 is along time LOSERS lololol suck on that assclowns!

Posted by jemihami on April 02, 2012 at 01:37 AM

Ah yes, the Philadelphia Pussies! Clean hit. Decent scrap and Rinaldo is lucky Asham didn't get to him. Best thing about the NHL is listening to Flyers and Bruins announcers act like anything done to their respective teams is a travesty. In this case, it really humorous because the Phillies have no tough guys to match the Penguins.

Posted by tyrone on April 01, 2012 at 07:51 PM

Flyers are my favorite team, but no match in any fisticuffs for Pitts. Richard Simmonds got pounded, but Kudos for Philly for standing up.

I like all the Cryers fans on here bashing Sid and the Pens. Everybody as in the NHL Network, NBC, and the NHL in general calls Sid the "Face of the NHL". Anybody even close to that on the Cryers? Yeah, I didn't think so. The Flyers are one of the biggest goon teams in the league. The cowerdly lion (Hartnell) runs goalies all the time. The Cryers got mad cause of the hit thats all and then got the crap kicked out of them. Keep your head up. Winner- Engelland

Couldnt agree with Natedog more, did some of you actually watch the video? You know, without your Flyer or Penguin blinders on? lol Clean hit followed by Schenn and Simmonds going after Vitale. Well those boys should have known who was on the ice. With Asham and The King of Engelland out there you maaaaaay wanna just chat with Vitale, let him know you didnt like the clean hit. Getting physically involved is a bad idea. I thought it was funny that no one really wanted Asham after a few rights. What was it Mike Tyson said, "everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face", lol. And Laviolette...wow, who did he want out for the last shift? The Malkin line? Theres less than a minute left in game that has a 3 goal differential...yeah lots of coaches put out their top guys in that scenario. I can only hope that Big Mac gets called up for the last few games against the Rangers and Flyers. Would love to see Mac and Big John Studd have a dance. Im allowed to dream right?

Posted by UPitt26 on April 03, 2012 at 10:28 PM

From a classless pittsburgh fan, don't take this to heart Philly. Pittsburgh uses sports to feel tough, because it's not a tough city at all. Philly could probably beat up Pittsburg lol.

Posted by kenzoscum55 on April 03, 2012 at 11:44 PM

@Leafs2006 (sorry had to catch my breath from LOLing)... get ur facts right before u come on here shooting off ur mouth. Simmonds has 29 goals and 10 fights... fights that include Prust(NHL fights major leader), Bickel, Martin, Jackman, Clarkson and Dorsett. And Engelland had 8 fights in which in my opinion 3 would he consideredfighter Scott, Reaves and Thorburn ( which may be questionable). So go back to getting the golf tees ready for your pathetic Leafs and let the professionals do our job

Posted by mr hockey on April 02, 2012 at 08:53 PM

the bottom line here is is both these teams from Pennsylvania both suck

Posted by Detroit_Caps on April 02, 2012 at 05:26 AM

So all the "enforcer", "Undisputed Heavy Weight", lands all these vicious haymakers. . . Yet the opponent who has had a slew injuries. . .is still fighting, has his and throat around the "enforcers" neck and still wants to fight while being escorted from the ice. . . So what are you Hens Drama Queens watching? Slap Boxing? If Engellcad was the fighter you guys make him out to be, he wouldn't of needed more than a few punches to take out an injured 20+ Goal scorer The rest of this is just an example of The Hens being utter garbage of a team and fan base. . . hopefully Schenn won't get suspended fot running over Cindy. . .(heh I love how the first thing she does is look for the ref! :D)

Posted by MilburyKOMyKid on April 02, 2012 at 03:18 AM

So Philly is taking cheap shots on Crosby after the whistle and the Pens should send out skill players only? Whine more Coach. You are lucky Briere or Simmonds didn't get a Matt Cooke Special. Oh and stay outta Pierre's box Laviolette or you'll get McGuire's Monster right up your Philly Phanny!

Hard to give a winner when they show very little of the fight.

Posted by ISYSpanther on April 01, 2012 at 07:38 PM

Was it a clean hit? When slowed down, yes it was. In real time, it looked like the arm was swung and hit the Flyer in the head. Penguins instigate a few of the altercations. Some Penguins show cowardice and attack players who are restrained. Yes, I know the flyers have the reputation of being physical. That doesn't mean that the Penguins can act like a bunch of junior high school girls. Crosby needs to be taken out. Simply so that he stops dominating NHL.com. OH EM GEE! Sidney Crosby had lunch! Let's cover it. Far more important than cheapshots and injuries. Anyways, a draw.

Good Fight, Simmonds was cut from the game before and hung in there with a tough hombre. ** I F'n hate the camera work on some of these fights, why show the coaches when there is a line brawl?? Seriously WTF is with tthat??? **

Great fight, but watching this, how was Rinaldo holding to the ref for protection? He was ready to scrap.

Posted by nait on April 02, 2012 at 09:20 AM

can someone please explain to me how a peerfictly leagl hit caused all this bs

Posted by aces50 on April 04, 2012 at 06:34 AM

Way to go, asshole Flyer starts the whole thing. Why hit somebody from behind, must be a coward. In the old west they hung guys for shooting in the back. At least Vitale didn't sneak up from behind. Too bad Engelland didn't knock Simmonds out. WTF is wrong with some of you Coward Cryers fans? You complain about the Pens goons on the ice when the game was decided, BUT you have your best scorers on the ice. Look in the mirror before you open your stupid mouths.

Posted by FotiuNystrom on April 01, 2012 at 10:20 PM

I usually get a chuckle from the crazy ass comments, and do not usually call out a fellow hockeyfight fan...but sedinfan.....c'mon man...really?? Gretzky a bigger whiner than Crosby??? There is NO..repeat NO big whiner in the game...never has been..never will be...and to mention him in the same breath as Gretz..well, you are either clueless, or under 21. The man has great skills, maybe the best out there when he quits cryin' and plays...but not a Gretsky, not by a long shot...have at it gentlemen BTW hit was clean...what was he doing out there anyway? But Flyers, as we know, must respond, even on a clean hit...cannot wait, hope these two square off in round one...

Posted by jlmcgui on April 01, 2012 at 10:43 PM

Engelland with the win ... Now, having watched the game, I agree with many of the post about the 'cheap-shot' Penguins. Remember, Crosby "bumped" Schenn first; Schenn defended himself and "cross-checked" Crosby ... I knew Schenn would be a marked man by the end of the game. Yes, Malkin threw a few rabbit punches ... and Hartnell is still a shit; coming in from behind on Malkin earlier in the game. Can't wait for Round-1 ... Flyers-Penguins ... but you won't see fights in playoff games; until the game is over.

Posted by bolton510 on April 02, 2012 at 02:16 PM

Engelland dropped Simmonds early, Simmonds got up and spent the rest to the fight trying not to get hurt.

Win Pittsburgh

Posted by gmr133 on April 03, 2012 at 01:12 PM

From a Blackhawks fan--I may not love Pitt, but the flyers are doing a lot of whining here. 60 seconds to go in the game and down three goals, with the same team coming back next week, no coach in his right mind is putting anyone out there but the fourth line guys. I don't want my stars in any nonsense. Vitale had a clean hit, end of story. Going after him for that was bs. Laviolette is a jackass for standing on the boards shrieking. The guy with the Jack Adams award isn't jumping up on the boards. And DE whips Simmonds hands down. Anybody who talks about DE picking a 26 goal scorer or out of his weight class or a guy with his faced all banged up doesn't know anything about hockey and/or is a Phil homer. Those two guys are the same size, Simmonds has more fights this year than Engelland, and any hockey player who has eight lousy stitches and tells you his face is all banged up isn't actually a hockey player. Why do the Philly fans always whine?

Posted by Kid Roberts on April 03, 2012 at 01:32 AM

Vitale knocks Briere into next week. Simmond tries to jump Niskanen and Schenn attempts to jump Vitale. Adams jumps Bourdon, Asham pounds Schenn while Kubina tries not to get killed, and Engelland pops Simmonds. Meanwhile, Briere skates away and Vitale is left skating around trying to find someone to fight.

Posted by dthusker on April 02, 2012 at 09:14 AM

timm0, horrible post, obvious Flyers lover. I'm a Penguins fan, have been since 1989 and I can at least say Pittsburgh was stupid for sending out that line at this point in the game. I can also say don't go after Malkin the whole game and cross check Crosby and go after Vitale after a clean hit & not expect to get your asses kicked. So what if Simmonds got hit with a puck, he got owned by a better fighter. I love that Timonen said "I can't wait for next Saturday" why? So you can go after the two stars for the Penguins all game then cry like 12 year old school girls when a fight happens because of it? Good lord, figure it out people.

Posted by kkdowning on April 02, 2012 at 06:40 PM

I think Laviollette and Berube would talk Bylsma and Granato easily. Ha! maybe we will see that one come playoffs. This is going to get uglier. If the Pens think that Rinaldo won't go after Crosby because of his deity status, they are crazy. Oh, and in the fight, win for Engelland although Simmonds held his own.

Posted by mmaz24 on April 01, 2012 at 04:47 PM

Engelland is a good fighter but fighting a guy with stitches and a visor from an injury the day before is against the code. Simmonds is out of Engelland's league. Rinaldo is going to get thumped by Aasham unless he is suspended for the final game. Funny how Crosby is hard to knock off the puck but a nudge by Schenn sends him flying. It is hard to have sympathy for Crosby since he is always yapping.

Posted by WickedMonstah on April 02, 2012 at 08:19 PM

Props to Simmonds for getting back up. But he still got steamrolled. Win London England and a 7.

Posted by sporten on April 02, 2012 at 05:44 AM

I agree with cup4theflyers. Im far from a Flyers fan, but the penguins have been acting like this for years now and its about time they get called for what they are. Classless goons that somehow think the rules dont apply for them and that they can act like idiots just because they have to "protect" Sid the spoiled Kid.

Posted by Pens3Cups on April 04, 2012 at 12:19 PM

Posted by PAfightsfan on April 02, 2012 at 07:59 AM

Yes you Flyer fans are correct. Down by 3 goals with 1:07 left on the clock the Pens should send out their top line of Crosby, Malkin, Neal, and Letang, so Jack-off cheapshot artist like Hartnell can attempt to injure them. Your constant whining and attacking Crosby makes you sound like brainless idiots. Simmons is a big mouthed cheap shot artist as well and was jumping Nisk, so he got what he deserved.

Posted by johnnyrock555 on April 04, 2012 at 05:51 PM

I am not impressed with Engelland in this one, he should have put this fight off until Saturday's game. He still won but Simmonds couls barely see, let alone afford to get hit in the left eye again. Asham is a monster! When did Laviolette grow balls? When he was the Islanders coach he was a sissy.

Posted by Prodigal313 on April 03, 2012 at 11:01 PM

First..spectacular clean open ice hit by Vitale. Yow, a thing of beauty, not a bit of a touch to the head, no leaving his feet...Engelland ragdolled Simmonds, then punched him a few times just to show that he could have taken his head off if he wanted to. If Flyers want to play that sort of game with this version of the Pens, they will get their heads handed to them.

Posted by TWGA on April 01, 2012 at 09:26 PM

Simmonds as usual showed great character, fighting after having taken a puck off his face in the previous game. Unfortunately, he was overmatched in this particular fight. He'll get him next time.

Posted by M3_Stick on April 01, 2012 at 05:51 PM

Wayne was rather lippy after getting his ass handed to him by DE.

Posted by BillyFromPhilly on April 02, 2012 at 02:19 PM

First off, Engelland won the fight but why shouldnt he? He's a heavyweight fighting a middleweight. Simmonds gets points for fighting well above his weight class. Secondly, notice how Asham, also a middleweight chooses to back down against the bigger man Kubina. In other words, the Flyers took the fight where they were outsized and the Pens backed down...because the are c_ _ ts, just like Lavy said. Gonna be a fun first round!

Posted by Jordybats99 on December 19, 2016 at 09:38 PM

Engelland pounds the shit out of Simmonds.

Posted by Inf1d3l on April 02, 2012 at 02:33 AM

Good fight, deserved beating by Engelland on Simmonds, Flyers we being showboats and dirty all night before the fight, which all of the Flyers proceeded to lose in, including their coach.

Posted by darebear on April 02, 2012 at 08:03 PM

just typical flyers. you hit our players we start a brawl. but if they do it to anyoen else they just have to take it. simmonds just got his a$$ handed to him on the end of 4 or 5 rights from big D. and i love the way brayden schenn has grown a set to go after the skilled plaers of the other team. yeah well done way to go tough guy... rinaldo is another classless idiot. goading fans on his way off... oh scary.... the flyers shoudl change that orange to yellow as they are just a bunch of cowardy turds and who the hell let hulk hogans great granda loose in the burgh

Posted by Mounty in NC on April 02, 2012 at 11:58 PM

Poor Simmonds didn't stand a chance....Engelland tore him a new new

Posted by CourageToGrow on April 03, 2012 at 12:29 AM

Its funny how Philadelphia and Pittsburgh fans cry about this type of stuff. I'm from Pittsburgh and I personally love when he Pens play the Flyers. There is so much deep seeded hatred between the teams. In a game like this you can't say which team is "cheap" or "classless". This is old time hockey at its finest. In reality, the Pens and Flyers are two of the only teams left who keep this tradition alive. If you find this classless or cheap, go watch the KHL before it folds and becomes another "no contact" hockey league. For the rest of us TRUE hockey lovers, we'll keep loving to watch these two titans collide on the ice. Sure I'd love to see Engelland punch Jagr's teeth into the back of his head, but that's what makes this so great. So for all of you little kids crying about the amount of penalties or no calls in this game, don't cry when Bettman outlaws contact and fighting.

Posted by slarrivee11 on April 01, 2012 at 04:46 PM

WIN Deryk Engell Nice to see simmons face used a punching bag. Would have loved to seen Asham smash a few more Filthy Flyers in the face but they all would skate away. Second off cup4theflyers stop drinking the bong water the penguins did the same thing the Flyers used to do when they were getting there ass's handed to them. And the way i seen the clip was asham had a hold of two flyers and i didn't see anyone holding them back . Your team is trash i can't wait till we play in the playoffs

Posted by Penguins22 on April 01, 2012 at 08:01 PM

Flyer fans want to talk about classless? Why don't you look at the video and watch your coach pick up a players stick and break it against the glass. A piece fly's onto the ice, as well as into the penguins bench. Talk about dirtbag.

The Penguins are the cheap shot artists of the NHL. They get away with cross-checking, slashing, name your penalty. It's known around the league as the Colin Campbell fix. Next Saturday, I suggest that Sidney the Tutu grow eyes in the back of his head. It's time to clean his clock once and for all. Evgeny will be next!!!

Posted by bdpetroni on April 02, 2012 at 05:52 PM

I'm giving Simmonds the win here on pure principle. Englelland attacks him from behind while he's engaged with someone else. Not to mention Simmonds is a 25 goal scorer who's banged up. Engelland is nothing more than a complete goon. I love physical hockey as well as the fights, but this is absolute garbage by the Pittsburgh Penguins. You're down 3 goals so you put out your goon squad to take runs at the Flyers for the last minute. Bylsma should be suspended and fined for this nonsense. And Philly didn't have a chance to answer b/c Pitt had the last change. And don't tell me this is payback for the cross-check on Crosby. He got exactly what he deserved for blindsiding Schenn in the corner when the puck was nowhere nearby. I respect the way Philly plays. I'm a Bruins fan, and both PHI and BOS have a team full of good players who can also fight, but no true goons. Those are the types of players we need in the NHL.

Posted by Gustis on April 02, 2012 at 01:05 PM

Wayne Simmonds got ragdolled? Wayne Simmonds goes after non fighters? You've got to be the most retarded person on the face of the earth if you say either of those. Considering Simmonds has a stitched up face and got punched from behind twice and still ended up getting the hardest punch int his fight, I wouldn't really say he got ragdolled. Cindy was slashing the whole fucking game, I think you Pens fans are leaving that out. A proffesional NHL player gets knocked over from a simple little bump, I think that's more embarrassing for him. Please stop talking you guys just sound retarded. Who won anyway?

Posted by flyersfan0180 on April 01, 2012 at 04:02 PM

Clear win for engelland. Simmonds didnt see engelland originally, completely out of his league, especially with 8 stitches in his nose he never had a chance but props for standin in there and taking it

Posted by Spazemunky on April 01, 2012 at 10:10 PM

Flyers need to remember how the Islanders paid the Pens back.

Posted by KingHenrik30 on April 01, 2012 at 05:19 PM

Too bad the coaches didn't get a little closer!

Posted by wannago_letsgo on April 02, 2012 at 12:22 PM

maybe laviolette needs to be pissed off at the D that fed briere the suicide pass, or even mad at danny for skating with his head down. That's the cause of the whole thing. as for the hit, perfectly clean text book hit. Who give a rats nut if the 4th line was on the ice? I coach, if my teams getting whipped and my scorers aren't doing crap all hell yeah my grinders are playing. Schenns crosscheck was a chicken move, throw that from behind then skate away at 3 times the speed you were going before you threw it? The whole thing was stupid, all over a clean hit on a guy skating with his head down after taking a suicide pass.

Posted by Dijo on April 02, 2012 at 04:43 PM

It was a clean hit by Vitale, but everyone knows that he was looking to start trouble. Asham and Engelland are on the ice and the Flyers have banged up Simmonds as a response. Would the Pens had done that if Shelley was out there? It was fun to watch, but a stupid idea by the Pens. Crosby is one clean hard hit away from retirement. I can't wait for the rematch. Maybe MacIntyre will be back by then. He might have to to save Sid.

Posted by cossack757 on April 01, 2012 at 11:27 PM

you're allowed to crosscheck Crosby and we're not supposed to respond. Huh? Playoff time fools

Posted by travist on April 01, 2012 at 05:21 PM

rinaldo is an idiot...as is hartnell, but his hulk thingy was pretty funny. but if he did that in my teams house i would want him beaten down. not a fan of either team but i can't wait to next weekend.

Posted by mike hartman on April 02, 2012 at 01:49 PM

pittsburgh has less class then philly. I didn't hink that was possible. Though I will say the hit on briere was clean, he should keep his head up when he cuts across the middle.

Posted by 25Pens45 on April 01, 2012 at 09:50 PM

That was a clean hit that started the whole thing. Simmons gets his ass bashed for reacting, Laviolette looks like a dumb ass for reacting... Clean hit and close to playoff time, what do you expect? In a game that has been policed by the league to the point where all the players are skating on eggshells, its nice to see a big hit. They are rare. Its sad that Philly wants to take exception to it.

Posted by pvdrummer2000 on March 12, 2015 at 02:37 AM

Old school hockey and an old school beatdown by Engelland over Simmonds. Great hit to start this.

Posted by montrealSUCKS on April 01, 2012 at 04:21 PM

Gotta love Engelland putting a quick beating on Simmonds. This is what happenes to Simmonds when he actually fights someone who can fight back, power foward my a$$. I also wish Asham got at that punk Rinaldo, woulda been pittsburgh 2, philly 0. God I love rivalries and this sport!

Posted by Rotorhead on April 01, 2012 at 04:46 PM

Anybody calling out Schenn for being a chicken in 'not' fighting Asham, you do realize Schenn isn't a goon??? He's a skilled forward that has an edge. And truth be told, that's a matchup for Syd to handle himself or maybe Krissy Kunitz... I thought Asham's punch to Schenn's face a little chicken in that Braydon couldn't defend himself. Pittsburgh IMO came away from this acting like pussies and very select in who they fought.

Posted by cible on April 01, 2012 at 06:27 PM

easy win engelland, its been a long time we saw him drop the mits, reminded me who good a fighter he is by handly a tough customer with simmonds farely easy.LOOK AT THE PSSS RINALDO HOLDING THE REF FOR DEAR LIFE AT THE END HILARIOUS!!!!!!

Posted by IMPEACH on April 01, 2012 at 04:03 PM

If you watched the game, clearly the Penguins, particularly Crosby and Malkin, don't like to be hit. Crosby has reverted to rookie season, crying over every bump and knock. If you're worried about your head, Sid, then find a quieter line of work. As for the brawl, I find it hilarious that Schenn, of all people, got the outstanding penalty here. 2 minutes for receiving. Asham, who plays his role as well as any knuckler in the league, was running around like a lunatic here.

Posted by MikeVee on April 01, 2012 at 04:30 PM

Knees a buckling from the right hand of Engelland- PS- Ahh..Petey Brown...Engelland isn't a heavyweight, he weighs 200LBS, they both stand 6'2"...Nice try on that one...Face it the Flyers are great at cheap shots but when they have to fight they get killed. Classless is defined as a punk that cross-checks someone from behind ala Schenn which was another gutless play

Posted by GreatMurray on April 01, 2012 at 09:35 PM

Engelland pounds Simmonds to the ice...pulls him back up and pounds him a little more. I didn't see any Crosby slashes during play. I did see the ridiculous cross check on Crosby at the end. Referee stops contest tko in my book. Clean hit late or early. What's the big deal. No way I pass on that hit with the playoffs looming. I don't have a dog in this show but I love the attitude shown by the Pens. BTW you Philly homers have short memories. This used to be the Flyers normal reaction when they were on the wrong end of a blow out. Did getting Jagr turn you into a bunch of Euroweenies. Play through the whistle...more important in these games than others...these guys will likely get to see each other in the SCP's. Also Pittsburgh didn't put any goons out. Engelland is a good stay at home "D" and is +12. Asham has 4 goals and 10 assists...hardly the performance of a goon. They are both very tough customers...I wish they were Red Wings. I hope Shanahan doesn't go brain dead and suspend some of these guys for Saturday's game. We all want to see a full blooded rematch!!! Gotta love Scotty Hartnell giving the clown in the front row the razz by aping Hulk Hogan. Can you imagine being fat and old and trying to dress up like Hulk Hogan. BTW Hartnell gets it. This stuff doesn't bother him...see you next week.

Posted by sedinfan on April 01, 2012 at 09:38 PM

Pittsburgh was looking for trouble, but grow up people. Look forward to the upcoming series which should be the best 1st rounder for sure. You can whine all you want, but it doesn't hide the fact these are grown men. Lots of 4th liners that shouldn't have been on the ice, obviously all trying to send a message. And all of you whining about Crosby, get a life. Greatest player in the world BY FAR, I would trade both of my home team Sedin's for him anyday. Gretzky was even a bigger whiner, but the greatest by far and 1st class off the ice, just like Crosby.

Posted by yngblonde1 on April 03, 2012 at 12:04 AM

The Pens only highlight of the game..The little puke that cross checked Crosby in the back will get his next game..As far as the fight, Buckwheat was sure glad the officials stopped Engelland from beating the black off his sorry butt..Clear 100% win for Engelland..The Pens need to dress big Steve next game and pound the Phlyers into pudding..I think big Steve can whip the entire team alone....PS...Buckwheat has more fights this season then Engelland....More loses as well.....

Posted by JaCort16 on April 01, 2012 at 05:30 PM

Prime example of how unintelligent Philadelphia people are........a CLEAN hit where everyone even Briere saw Joey Vitale coming, and they get mad and act like dumb asses and then get their asses kicked! Peter Laviolete is a moron and he proved it with his antics, he broke a stick over the boards, if you look closely in the beginning you will see something fly onto the ice and it was part of a stick that he broke over the glass and part flew into the Pens bench, that is why there was a confrontation and he was mad because Bylsma put his 4th line out there in a game that was out of hand, which is good coaching considering the Cheapest Dirtiest team in the league is Philadelphia.....I have never seen any team act like bad asses but never fight like Philly does. Hartnell pushes and shoves after every whistles but has been challenged by everyone to fight and won't ...the flyers are a bunch of talkers and then get their ass kicked in fights. Like coach, like team. Engelland wins big here......the playoff series will be interesting because the Flyers do have the Pens number this year, but they are a bunch of panzis. Next game Pens should dress Mcintyre, along with Brent Johnson on the 4th line (see Dipetro last year) hahaha. Should be a wild one.
