Fighting against one of the only heavyweights in the league Ate a few punches Never quit Kept on grappling for better position Threw effectively with the left and right The bloody face of Deryk Engelland should let you know That at 39 years old... Jarome Iginila is still the man

Posted by lucic17 on March 29, 2017 at 11:34 PM

This fight leaves no doubt as to the character and leadership of Iginla. Like everyone else I cringed when I saw this matchup. I assumed Iginla bit off more than he could chew and it would be sad to see him get destroyed by one tough son of a bitch. Instead, the consummate professional displayed his own toughness and schooled a surprised heavyweight. Great tilt and I cannot believe what I saw. If I had a lot of respect for Iginla before it just tripled. What a leader. Every Kings player should learn from what they just witnessed.

Posted by fastbal on March 30, 2017 at 09:42 AM

Engelland was actually using his other left.

Posted by mr. puttzo on March 30, 2017 at 07:37 AM

No frauds here just a real fight between two legit tough guys.

Posted by boldbilly on March 30, 2017 at 04:59 AM

Well who could have predicted that? This was a great toe to toe exchange with Iggy getting the slight edge...I scored this at 7 .... Engelland for whatever reason didn't seem to bring it like he usually does and it cost him here, maybe he took Iggy a little to lightly? Anyway nice fight

Posted by Humper on March 30, 2017 at 09:47 AM

The old man still has it. Based on the voting and some of the comments there are people here that truly think Engelland was equal to or better than Iggy in this one. I just don't see it that way at all, especially when Iginla's shots were of such superior quality.

Posted by skyywise on March 30, 2017 at 12:48 AM

Just a great fight. Engelland's playful head bobs before engaging were hilarious.

Posted by EK65 on March 30, 2017 at 10:43 PM

Iggy is a freak of nature. 39 years old Takes on one of the true heavies of the league. Wins. What a player.

Posted by erikk3 on March 29, 2017 at 10:28 PM

Please come back for one more year Iggy

Posted by canamrugby on March 30, 2017 at 09:42 AM

Hate to give the win to the guy wearing a visor even if it is Iggy, reluctant draw because Engelland clearly connected with the visor on multiple occasions. Would like to see a repeat without the visor.

Posted by salva on March 30, 2017 at 05:27 AM

Slight win to team Iginla/Shield against Engelland, who seemed tired and uninterested in this one

Posted by shrk33 on March 30, 2017 at 12:32 AM

Props to Iginla for stepping up and taking it to Engelland! I wonder if #29 was holding back some?

Posted by Great Murray on March 29, 2017 at 10:42 PM

WOW! What a battle! Engelland landed a few more punches but Iggy landed the best punch. Iggy is amazing!

FUCK YEAH IGGY!!!

Posted by bigd1 on March 30, 2017 at 01:29 AM

Pretty even. Iggy got the last one. No real dominance by either one.

How is this a 7.3? 5.5 feels more like it.

Posted by illukka on March 30, 2017 at 07:45 AM

the fight is a lot closer than most seem to think, i call it a draw. there was a point where Iggy was just hanging there for his life after eating 3 haymakers from engelland. he came back though and finished strong... there was lots of engellands bloog on Iggys Jersey and looks like that has affected how some call the fight, ITS A FUCKING DRAW

Posted by Mounty in NC on April 03, 2017 at 10:22 AM

I'm 42 y/o and been watching hockey since the early 80s. I find it pathetic watching these long time players wearing shields. I would refuse to fight anyone wearing one. As for this fight I initially picked Iggy but after watching the slo-mo a few times I decided on voting draw. Engo landed a couple shots straight to Iggys shield. Iggy may have gotten one or two that actually hit skin. Engo got cut by his own helmet, not by a punch that landed. Drawing blood doesn't automatically make you a winner no more than getting a take-down does. Solid bout, going with a draw and a 7 Look at internet tough guy Licorice telling everyone who is wrong and why he is right. Be careful though he has a flair for fighting and he's not scared to tell you!

Posted by LicoriceBiscuit on April 01, 2017 at 05:27 PM

Misanthropes, homers and flat out brain dead fools lay their claim to fame with this fight and their vapid posts. The ones I don't understand are the Flames fans... Iginla will go into the Hall of Fan probably wearing a Flames jersey...weird that you spin the fight into something it wasn't. That would include: Meatpuppet...another clairvoyant whom can see what would REALLY have happened if Iginla wouldn't have had a visor. As well with "northlander," and bluejacketgeek...all fortune tellers whom have a privileged insight on what should, could or would have happened. As if we are all supposed to read their trite and say "oh yeah..." nonsense. How about Mr. um WHALEBOY: "Iginla didn't do anything." Wow...what a profound statement of... actually nothing but awful. Then we have the pearls of wisdom from "j-break- " regarding Clifford... Mr. Clifford wasn't on the ice at the time of the incident. Another brain donor. Preciselyfun: Ferland...is that sarcastic? Trubba: DE was holding back...really? That's what you came up with from a good fight between two true battlers? Hugh cares: Iginla is old as shit? What is it you care about Hugh...sounding really really stupid? Mission accomplished brother. For Iginla to be playing at this level at his age and still making a difference...you sound as if perhaps you're jealous...reliving something that never happened for you...maybe? Rocky1: just another one of his posts that are simply so far off he could have been watching Looney Tunes....also JaCot16 is along the same mind set. I must end with English Bruin: "Uncle Deryk" truly? If he is indeed your uncle he lost a good fight to one of the last true warriors of the sport. Also always enjoy the people that basically yell out in caps their opinion "IT WAS A DRAW!!!" Whoa, okay Mr. or Mrs. Tell Me How It Is, "I swear I'll change my mind now that I've read that, because you said it in such a powerful way in print." .....so scary. WHATEVER WAY YOU THINK IS WRONG....READ MY ALL CAP WORDS AND FOLLOW MY WAY OF THINKING!!! DRINK THE PURPLE KOOLAIDE! All praise the caps. The imbeciles on the site I Understand at times...well not at all, but they are what they are. The people I don't understand are the Calgary Flame fans running Iginla down. Iginla went up against a true HW fighter, (and there are very few left, but DE is one of them,) and Iginla did show he is still an NHL warrior...to the (possible) end of his career, and he demonstrated that in your building. Props to him and props to DE. I thought it was a good fight.

Posted by staceyb on March 30, 2017 at 10:32 AM

Even Darryl Sutter cracked a smile (1:12) at Iggy's effort. We think.

Posted by toy boy dan on March 30, 2017 at 10:22 AM

How could anybody vote for Iginia? You got to be kidding me. Jerome is long in the tooth and was lucky he did not get hurt.

Posted by trubba on April 01, 2017 at 02:47 PM

I think Iggy was lucky DE was holding back. Big respect to both players.

Posted by Johnny22 on March 30, 2017 at 01:43 PM

Jerome is a stud.. Gordy Howe hat trick at his age..including fighting a bona fide heavy..

Posted by titanium on April 01, 2017 at 06:04 PM

Good fight. More of a draw than a clear winner. Too many votes were swayed by the sight of blood. It looked like Engelland, out of respect for iginla accepted the challenge but held back slightly.

Posted by GreatMurray on October 03, 2018 at 06:42 AM

Iginla got a lot of votes for guts, heart etc. but he didn't win this fight. He landed a couple and ate some too. He held is own against a very tough guy and earned a draw...it was Iggy's blood.

Posted by Namaste on April 01, 2017 at 09:31 PM

Engelland didn't want to kill him, may have been surprised. Iggy did himself proud.

Posted by Fists of Fleury on December 27, 2017 at 07:41 PM

New to hockey but seems to me Engelland hit the visor several times that might have ended the fight if the visor was gone. Have watched a ton of fights on here though since I became a fan and seems like this is definitely up there for a good quality fight.

Posted by DARCY T on November 07, 2017 at 05:52 PM

2nd fight of the game you have to love iggy.he challenged heavy weight engelland with no hestitation after his hit on kopitar.he's almost 40 and is having one of most successful seasons fighting wise. each of the 2 had his shining moment in this fight .hard fought draw (it's moral victory for iggy considering their status and the result most of the people expected) and im giving it an 8.

Posted by 18buell on March 30, 2017 at 09:23 AM

Great battle by both battle tested combatants. Similar size and age. Draw and a 7. Would love to have both these guys in my team.

Posted by demolition on March 31, 2017 at 10:59 PM

candidate for fight of the year .. a battle of 2 true gladiators. I call it a draw , Engelland landed more punches , Iggy hit him right on the helmut and cut him . great fight

Posted by Cea1 on April 04, 2017 at 06:03 PM

Good fight between two tough players. I think it was a draw, but if anything a little bit of edge to Iginla.

Posted by Ted Howard on April 05, 2017 at 07:27 AM

WHOOPTY DOO ...TAKE AWAY Iginla's visor and the fight is so much different ...and shorter probably ! I can't see why they just don't let them dump the lids ?

Posted by IMPEACH on March 30, 2017 at 07:20 PM

Nice win for the old man. Iginla may have just single-handedly saved the Kings' reputation. The whole league sees how soft they are, and they may have gotten their coach fired with this game & the Doughty/Tkachuk crap. No fight at all. It's pretty pathetic that a 57 year old man is your toughest player....

Posted by Oggie81 on March 30, 2017 at 10:02 AM

Good job by Iginla getting in there and standing up for his kids

Posted by hal29 on March 30, 2017 at 10:42 PM

Win for Iggy. In iggy's defense. He always use throw the lid to make it a fair fight, but they changed the rules. No fault of his own. He Is one of the few guys who does not hide behind his shield. Shield or no shield iggy would of won. He always fights better against better competition.

Posted by slavv on April 05, 2017 at 10:29 PM

Igunla gets the win as he was more active and Engelland was just holding on mid-fight on....

Posted by NAILS13 on March 30, 2017 at 01:18 PM

Gotta love it when you got to hit the locker room because the other guy left an unacceptable amount of plasma on your jersey.

Posted by bigderel on March 29, 2017 at 10:19 PM

The Flames are clearly taking liberties with the Kings star players, and thank goodness the Kings picked up a guy capable of playing with the heart and toughness it takes to curb that BS. This is why fighting exists and should remain...obviously I'm preaching to the choir here. Plus the fights are spicing up an otherwise spiceless matchup, because the Kings are barely even shadows of their former selves...Looks like the Flames may have stolen their role...

Posted by bigmike53 on March 30, 2017 at 08:34 PM

What's not to like about Iggy! He gets the GHH and outpoints one of the toughest guys in the league in the process.

Posted by FRANK M on April 02, 2017 at 12:31 PM

Close but Engelland with the more accurate and harder punches.

Posted by bdanise1 on March 30, 2017 at 01:07 AM

Posted by AdsSection206Goon on March 29, 2017 at 10:43 PM

How in the blue hell did one of the elite fighters in the NHL lose so decisively to a 40 year old NHL scoring legend? It was almost like Englelland allowed himself to be punched in the face repeatedly out of respect for Iggy.

Posted by von_swine on March 30, 2017 at 09:53 PM

this fight, at this stage of Jarome's career, has to put him in the conversation for best power forward of all-time.. Iggy (again) goes into beast mode vs. D.E. & walks away holdin the scalp... #88 FTW

Posted by King Neal on April 01, 2017 at 03:11 PM

Posted by Jellyczar on March 30, 2017 at 06:04 PM

All Iggy .... Calgary hasn't had a true heavy weight since McGrattan ..... now there was a tough mother....

Posted by BooSanta on March 30, 2017 at 10:42 PM

IGGY! Not bad for for this geezer. Get's the tilt against the bigger and better DE. Kind of weird seeing him bust open someone who's wearing that Flames jersey. Home town fans were seen rooting for Iggy after this doozy. He takes a few early, but outlasts and busts open English for the win.

Posted by rocky 1 on March 31, 2017 at 07:31 PM

Great surprise or is it? Iginla blooding Engelland for the win!

Posted by 65vette on April 04, 2017 at 03:34 PM

I don't like the shields in a fight. Two players want to square off; great, but just lose the helmets. No extra penalty should be called because it obviously gives a shielded player a hell of an advantage over an unshielded playing.... DUH of the year. That being said, Engelland definitely got some shots in, but Iggy got the better ones. And the announcer stating that DE was cut by his helmet, my ass, he got cut by two SOLID lefts that landed as square as they get. Iggy gets an impressive win by someone who 9 out of 10 would think he'd have no chance. Highest props to Iggy. He called Engelland out and walked the walk.

Posted by Brooksy on March 30, 2017 at 07:21 AM

Love both those guys, iggy my entire family's fav player, literally school projects in a fair on him.....engelland is a 205 pound legit heavyweight and my fav scrapper since he made the show. Iggy hands down in a good scrap, I will say that if DE woulda landed one of the two rights while Iggy didnt have a hold of the jersey....he woulda been sleeping about 5 sec in. But ...horse shoes and hand grenades eh!

Posted by whaleoil on April 01, 2017 at 05:17 AM

not a fair match when one guy has a visor but kudos to Iggy for landing hard punches on the heavyweight.

Posted by GoonVisor on March 30, 2017 at 12:40 PM

Iggy in a very close one and he gets the nod for the leakage. Engelland gets a thumbs up for keeping it fun early on. I say 7 for the energy of the scrap and the situation.

Posted by the kid 61 on March 30, 2017 at 07:18 PM

Iggy cleaned his clock. I never thought much of engelland. They should bring back bollig. The chicago soft hawks should of grabbed iggy to protect little patty and toews. .

Posted by LAKings on March 30, 2017 at 06:49 AM

T2T as Iginla answers the bell, and yes the guy going off for stitches clearly lost the fight

Posted by purpleknuckles on March 30, 2017 at 12:34 AM

Resounding decision for Iggy Engelland often looks too peaceful, too passive Ate more left fist sandwiches than Oprah at a buffet

Posted by MASJOSH on April 05, 2017 at 07:19 PM

Much respect for Iginla, liked his stature on every team he has played for. He held his own against a tough cat in Engelland, and then some. . Defending a teammate . Win

Posted by JaCort16 on March 31, 2017 at 11:05 PM

Engelland didn't get cut from punch looked more like helmet shield, and had better punches imo, but iginla survived and did better than expected, draw or slight edge to Engelland who I think had respect to not end iginla for good.

Posted by hughcares on March 30, 2017 at 10:02 AM

Good fight. If you want to put in in perspective Engelland wouldn't have been cut if had the Iginla's visor on. Engelland wins - I don't give points just cause the guy is an old shit

Posted by English_Bruin on March 30, 2017 at 12:29 PM

Uncle Deryk looks composed before the entanglement, brief scuffle follows with what I thought Unlce Deryk getting more done. Iginla was hanging on towards the end.

Posted by Meatpuppet42 on March 30, 2017 at 01:41 PM

Engelland clearly beat the crap out of Iginla's visor.

Posted by WhaleBoy on March 30, 2017 at 09:48 PM

Just don't see it like the rest of you Engelland got three crisp rights in. Iginla came back with a few left jabs but they hardly did anything.

Posted by kimo_coyote on April 04, 2017 at 05:04 PM

good fight. Jerome has always been one of the best fighters in th leauge. Stand up guy. winner Jerome Iginla in a good fight.

Posted by gmr133 on April 03, 2017 at 01:00 PM

Good hit on Kopitar. Both guys land some serious shots. Draw.

Posted by ChuckinKnuckles on April 05, 2017 at 06:36 PM

I still couldn't see where Engelland got cut but he was definitely leaking for sure. Iginla is an old veteran warhorse who still has enough mustard to take on a tough guy. Great scrap, but have to call this one a draw. Draw, 6.

Posted by kari takko on March 30, 2017 at 01:22 PM

Draw but if I had to pick it's edge Engelland. Not hard to see this.

Posted by demonhead6 on March 30, 2017 at 12:49 PM

Ignite won by drawing blood, but still hiding behind a visor. But good fight though, been better if both were fighting with same protection. Engelland probably not cut had he had a visor on too.

Posted by j-breck on March 30, 2017 at 01:00 AM

Given the temperature of this game, a real enforcer such as of McLeod or Boll or Thorburn or even an older guy like Neil or Thornton would have gladly stepped up. But the waste case Clifford was happy to let Iginla do his job for him. Decent scrap.

Posted by rowbearprobear on June 01, 2023 at 08:27 PM

Lost some respect for Iggy pulling DE’s helmet off when he’s fighting with a football mask on. Iggy old enough where he doesn’t need the face shield. Iggy is better than this:(

Posted by Mounty in NC on June 01, 2023 at 08:27 PM

Draw!!! Watch the slo-mo of the fight. Iggy missed a lot of his punches. De landed a couple solid jabs but thanks to the old man and his shield those punches didn't do much. People see blood and automatically assume a winner. It was DE's helmet that cut him and not the knuckles from Iggy. DE landed more but Iggy landed a better shot or 2. Factor in the shield and I give it a draw

Posted by oldschoolfan77 on March 30, 2017 at 09:47 PM

Posted by Jflah53 on March 30, 2017 at 04:20 PM

Good fight between two "MEN" !!! No wussies here … Maybe I watched a different "edited" fight (even though I watched the whole game) but it "APPEARED" to me that both MEN got some good shots in … Nothing wrong with a DRAW here.. Again, another incident caused by a clean hit …... SIDENOTE: As for that self imposed, in his own mind, elitist I can't be touched Drew Doughty what a wuss.. Its too bad Gadreau, after being slashed AGAIN in the hand, Michael Ferland, when they play in LA, talks to, I think it was Taffoli, before the game & reminds him of the beatin thats about to happen to him for the slashing… DOUGHTY, PLEASE !!!!

Posted by preciselyfun on March 30, 2017 at 12:13 PM

Iginla may have edged this one, but he absolutely stayed clear of Ferland, who would have killed him.

I cant' believe what i just saw. 40 years old, fighting a true heavyweight and splits him open. When i saw this, i was afraid i was going to see Jarome finish his career with a beating. Iggy may be my favourite player ever despite me not being a Calgary person. Great fight, punches landed by both despite Engelland leaking badly as he landed some good ones as well, but got to give Iggy the edge on the damage. Fight of the year candidate. Calgary has had a couple of those as Bennett had a dandy a few weeks ago.
