The Flyers are like the Michelle Bachmann of the NHL, occasionally funny, like a retarded circus clown, but mostly pathetic like your just released from prison uncle Joe the farm animal molester.

Posted by Mounty in NC on November 01, 2013 at 10:34 PM

Downie goes after the skater then bows down to him by saying no mas.....what a b!tch. Just like a normal Philly's action.....get destroyed on the scoreboard so they take cheap shots

Posted by arrows80 on November 02, 2013 at 02:06 AM

Thank you, Aaron Volpatti.

Posted by IMPEACH on November 01, 2013 at 10:04 PM

Pathetic Downie. What a quitter. Don't fight if you can't take a punch. He should fit in well with the rest of the Flyers this year, and I say that as a Flyers fan.

Posted by Bockscar on November 03, 2013 at 01:06 PM

Downie sent to UPENN Medical having suffered a concussion. Out indefinitely. Laughing my butt off at anyone who does not recognize that Volpatti won. By the way, notice how when Downie begs for mercy, Volpatti, a class act, stops throwing? Maybe that primate Emery can learn something.

Posted by staceyb on November 01, 2013 at 09:50 PM

Geez, wait until the third period brawl gets sent up. The Flyers had a total meltdown on home ice, simply embarrassing. Paul Holmgren has got to go. In this one, Steve Downie almost got downied with those lefts, downie and out.

Posted by Boston Garden on November 01, 2013 at 10:36 PM

Another Flyer gets beaten soundly, Philly is full of punching bags.

Posted by FreeCandy on November 01, 2013 at 10:12 PM

Steve Downie is having a tough couple of days. First, traded from a team with 20 points to a team with 6 points. Then this... There there, Steve Downie. It will be okay.

Posted by Ajaxechkin on November 02, 2013 at 12:35 AM

Pounding a punk

Posted by ironbar44 on November 01, 2013 at 09:25 PM

that left did some damage there

Posted by DARCY T on November 02, 2013 at 03:00 PM

it looks like downie quit after volpatti landed that left

Posted by francoisleroux on November 02, 2013 at 12:38 AM

Downie tries to win over the Philly faithful the first opportunity he gets. Unfortunately, he'd never heard of this volpatti kid. Another one the canucks let get away. Props to Volpatti for being sportsmanlike and letting Downie off with a warning this time. Gotta love the Philly fans booing Downie for admitting defeat. Not quite a crowd favorite yet. @ staceyb "Downie and out" = priceless

Posted by paddyd on November 02, 2013 at 10:52 AM

Downie gets a pounding. Philadelphia is pathetic, we can't play hockey so we will behave like a bunch of goons and make our fans happy. What a joke. Berube has no control over this team. Talk about morons Emery a 2nd ranked AHL player will do anything to stay in the NHL. He can't stop a basketball and behaves like a frustrated child. Gonna be a long year for this crew, wouldn't be surprised to see a bench change after the new year.

Posted by bigpucks on November 05, 2013 at 09:03 PM

Downie SOFT, hope he's okay so he can attempt to injure someone else

Posted by b.t.wilson on November 02, 2013 at 10:04 PM

Smashed orbital bone. Youch. Amazing he had the sensibility to let his combatant know his skull was off kilter.

Posted by srehm1 on November 03, 2013 at 01:25 PM

Volpatti rocked Downie with the only significant punch of the fight, but it was enough for the win. Downie concussed and sent to the hospital after this one.

Posted by digitalroc on November 02, 2013 at 04:08 PM

I am not a fan of Downie, but tou can't say what type of pain Downie felt after he was punched extremely hard in the eye. I can only imagine that Downie felt something abnormal that doesn't come regularly with a fight, knowing that moments after the punch he needed to get off the ice and to a hospital, at the expense of tapping out. Yes, win for Volpatti.

Posted by jnk07899 on November 03, 2013 at 11:35 AM

Boom. Volpatti win.

Posted by BrettB on November 13, 2013 at 04:00 PM

Stop please, I'm bleeding, and I don't feel so well.

Posted by abadjoke88 on November 02, 2013 at 08:30 AM

obamacare works better than steve downie's ability to fight. Apparently the flyers can't fight or play hockey this season so far. Excellent lefty to the eye; something magical about a guy who starts a fight and gets his ass kicked.

Posted by GreatMurray on November 03, 2013 at 07:54 AM

I give Downie a lot of credit for trying to stick up for a mate. But he is undersized for this stuff. He's a good player and a little prick to boot, I would like to see him play more like Kenny Linseman and just keep everyone stirred up while he is on the ice. He got stomped.

Posted by DanHalen on November 02, 2013 at 12:20 AM

Volpatti shouldn't have let up, not for a dickhead like Downie

Posted by Silent Partner on November 02, 2013 at 08:22 AM

What a great camera shot. TKO Volpatti.

Posted by gorman0 on November 02, 2013 at 03:54 PM

Downie quits like a little biatch.

Posted by ICEEM on November 02, 2013 at 07:53 PM

nice slow mo. you can actually see when Downie got the cuncussion

Posted by MRoberge on November 05, 2013 at 09:23 AM

Another cheap Flyer! Waiting for someone to kick Emery's ass

Posted by travist on November 03, 2013 at 02:01 PM

never like to see someone get injured, but downie is a douche and deserved everything here, just wish there were a few more punches from volpatti. and the flyers in general...pathetic. you lose two forwards and your goalie will be suspended, this isn't 1974. what a joke and an embarrassment. on another front, GREAT slo-mo replay!

Posted by streak53 on November 02, 2013 at 12:09 AM

Volpatti wins b/c he connected with a solid left to Downies eye. For the people saying Downies horrible, he stood up for a teammate that took a cheap shot. Not sure how you define Downie as doing that your crazy.

Posted by KingNothing on November 02, 2013 at 11:30 AM

No Mas No Mas...haha Downie Punk.

Posted by curleyqlink78 on November 02, 2013 at 08:39 PM

1 game 1 fight your done

Posted by legion31 on November 02, 2013 at 08:10 AM

good left from Volpatti !

Posted by hughcares on November 02, 2013 at 08:20 AM

HAHA Downie tries to make a big impression with the new teammates and quickly quits after getting tagged. That will really impress the guys Downie - start a fight and quit. Philly trading for this guy makes perfect sense - a loser team acquiring loser players. What do you expect from a team with a mentally handicapped GM.

Posted by boldbilly on November 02, 2013 at 07:59 AM

Volpati to Downie..... "Steve you got your Aids test back yet " No ? Okay this fight is done. Seriously what else would have stopped this fight so fast after the sight of a little blood....I guess win for Volpatti on the one punch stoppage

Posted by MajorGroove on November 04, 2013 at 05:19 AM

Dirty slew foot by Volpatti on Read started the whole fracas. Cheap and classless. Up by 5 so bring out the slew foot. Dirty trip by Alzner on Voracek and lets have a goalie fight! Caps went looking for trouble. Props to Downie for standing up and taking his unpleasant medicine.

Posted by dkhman26 on December 17, 2013 at 09:05 PM

Downie sees blood, realizes it is his own and whimpers for mercy. If only the Flyers were as classy as Volpatti is here.

Posted by pvdrummer2000 on November 01, 2013 at 11:40 PM

Volpatti crushed Downie! Should have kept pummeling the chump.

Posted by Ed Van Impe on November 02, 2013 at 07:14 AM

always a pleasure to see a gutter rat get a concussion ...

Posted by Ratank on November 06, 2013 at 05:06 PM

TKO

Posted by Langway on November 16, 2013 at 01:54 PM

Downie had to end the fight because of the great shot by Volpatti. Definite Volpatti win for that alone.

Posted by bobowen34 on February 20, 2015 at 07:11 AM

I wish Volpatti would have kept swinging. What a beautiful fight.

Posted by Beaton on November 02, 2013 at 12:45 AM

Anyone who calls Downie's a quitter is insane. Hardest I've seen a guy get hit in a long time..Slow-Mo tells story

Posted by MACMAN214 on November 02, 2013 at 05:35 PM

ko

Posted by canamrugby on November 09, 2013 at 10:53 AM

I just wish Volpatti had done Downie's other eye as well. Downie will always be a punk that needs a serious beating, don't care if he plays the rest of his short career like Joe Mullen.

Posted by mrunohoo on November 01, 2013 at 09:33 PM

Downie got a real close look at Volpatti's knuckles. Real close.

Posted by ETR on November 02, 2013 at 10:11 AM

Downie can't finish what he started....

Posted by [email protected] on November 01, 2013 at 09:31 PM

Thats what you call a standing 8 count. Thats about as hard as I've seen a player get punched in the head without going down. Downie's a tough nut. Volpatti has had a successful week of fighting, he may be ready for a come uppense from someone higher up the food chain. Good hockey fight, tough way to make a living

Posted by BooSanta on November 04, 2013 at 08:36 PM

Volpatti with the clean dump on Read. Downie re-debuts with the Flyers and attempts some heroics. Patti with the Balboa left providing some extra sauce on this Philly cheesesteak.

Posted by nuckles88 on November 02, 2013 at 01:22 AM

Wow good job Downie jumping a guy then wimping out when you get a boo boo. Patty has one punch knock out power as Winchester found out the hard way and now Downie knows too. Win volpatti who also shows class by going easy on the guy

Posted by retired2006 on November 01, 2013 at 10:45 PM

Downie begging for an end to the fight. Volpatti lets him off, Downie leaking to the locker room.

Posted by Ovi8Best on November 03, 2013 at 03:00 PM

Prime example of Downie's mouth writing checks that his butt can't cash...

Posted by riffraff on November 01, 2013 at 09:17 PM

ouch. fan of both. we all know who won this one.

Posted by bajo39 on November 02, 2013 at 12:01 PM

You kinda admire Downie at the start for trying to make the right impression with his new mates, but he finds out quickly that taking on Volpatti required the basic homework that he had not done on on his new conference. When the shots start landing flush, he starts cryin uncle and whatever positive he hope to take away from this was gone and then some.

Posted by jrroman on November 02, 2013 at 10:52 AM

Downie couldn't answer the next round whistle TKO

Posted by DanielleinDC on November 02, 2013 at 02:24 PM

I'd say if you break a guy's face, you win the fight. That is one vicious left Volpoatti has.

Posted by Hkmert1 on November 02, 2013 at 09:13 AM

All Volpatti........good camera work

Posted by demonhead6 on November 02, 2013 at 12:35 PM

That left from Volpatti at the end was brutal. Talk about connecting! Believe Downie was concussed from that shot.No doubt who won this one.

Posted by moneybags on November 02, 2013 at 04:05 AM

Can you imagine Dave Schultz telling Terry Orielly " Im cut, thats enough"....neither can I

Posted by shawnrocks on November 01, 2013 at 10:28 PM

downie tapped

Posted by CapsYapp on December 08, 2013 at 09:59 AM

'Patti beat that dudes ass. Downie is a good fighter but just got leveled by that Left

Posted by mjb_17 on November 03, 2013 at 04:58 PM

hahahahahaha. Downie tries to be the hero and gets punched out! What a F U C K I N G loser!

Posted by ghjkfdhgfd on November 01, 2013 at 11:35 PM

Ass kicking

Posted by ThrowdownSJ408 on November 02, 2013 at 07:15 PM

Volplatti has heavy hands, he has a few solid wins the last few years.

Posted by orangecuse on November 02, 2013 at 06:45 PM

I voted this fight a ten just because a Flyer got his ars kicked and it being Downie makes it even better. If you remember when Scott hit Erickson Jones was one of those saying theres no place in hockey for that but when Emery races down the ice to get at Holtby who didn't want to go Jones is justifying it by saying they still have that fire in there bellies what a two faced piece of crap Jones is and Emery if you can't stop the puck don't take it out on the other goalie who can just admit you suck just like the Flyers whole team does.

Posted by battleshipfan on November 02, 2013 at 10:36 AM

I wish he would have broke code and pummeled downie softness Philly fans re probably thrilled to et rid of a good hockey player (Talbot) for this piece of crap .

Posted by gogrg on March 31, 2014 at 05:52 PM

Downie says no more

Posted by FlyersPSU on November 02, 2013 at 02:25 AM

volpatti landed 1 punch but that was all that was needed since it gave downie a concussion and cut him open, clear win volpatti and not the debut downie had in mind

Posted by Humper on November 01, 2013 at 10:07 PM

Down goes Downie.

Posted by CG3 on November 01, 2013 at 11:25 PM

De ja vu. Downie quit this fight that he know he'd lose just like he quit against Jarkko Ruutu a few years back. Downie is embarrasing, can't believe the Flyers gave up Talbot to reqaquire this garbage.

Posted by gmr133 on November 02, 2013 at 05:18 PM

Downie starts it and then gets owned. Happiest man in the NHL right now? Max Talbot.

Posted by kkdowning on November 02, 2013 at 09:03 AM

Close until Volpatti ends Downie's night with some lefts to the eye. Downine tries to prove that Holmgren is not a dope for making that trade. If Volpatti knew how the Flyers were going to get silly at the end of the game I wonder if he would have let Downie off the hook. BTW, Downie ended up going to hospital on a stretcher and is going to be out for some games.

Posted by PucktotheHead on November 04, 2013 at 11:05 AM

Toughest 4th line in hockey. Volpatti - Latta - Wilson

Posted by chad420 on November 02, 2013 at 11:35 AM

Allday Peppermint Patty

Posted by nait on November 01, 2013 at 10:27 PM

Volpatti only because Downie got cut

Posted by efp on November 02, 2013 at 04:29 AM

What the hell does Michelle Bachman have to do with fighting? If you want to say anything, Downie failed like the kenyan marxist fraud in the white house.

Posted by King of Goons on November 01, 2013 at 09:32 PM

Steve Downie does his best Milan Lucic impression ...and quits. Win for Volpatti over the bloodied and shamed Steve Downie. Nice trade Holmgren, you putz. Next season you'll either be driving an ice cream truck ...or maybe be GM of the NY Rangers. Each option is a hopelessly dreadful proposition.

Posted by Behn Wilson on November 02, 2013 at 01:19 AM

Other than the eye shattering left... that was fairly close as Downie attempts to "re-ingratiate" himself to the Broadstreet faithful

Posted by Rockhound6165 on November 02, 2013 at 11:15 PM

Really? 95% to Volpatti? Bunch of Flyer haters here I see. This was a nothing fight and a clear draw. If there was a winner, Downie got in better punches.

Posted by Amerkfan8 on November 01, 2013 at 10:43 PM

Dirty slewfoot there by Volpatti. He wins the fight though since that's the question.
