Rypien delivers a beating!

Posted by preciselyfun on October 21, 2009 at 12:36 PM

Wow is Stortini ever a pussy. Why does this guy fight? Not to take away from Rypien, but seriously...

Posted by woodape on October 20, 2009 at 12:28 AM

Stortini isn't as bad anymore but he still isn't that good for a supposed NHL enforcer. Having said that, Stortini ran into a buzzsaw in Rypien. Rypien dropped alot of different angles and switched hands several times on Stortini who looked like a bear that just stumbled into a hive of killer bees.

Posted by CairnsIsGod33 on October 20, 2009 at 12:00 AM

The fact that Rypien gets a handle on Stortini, who tried to turn it into a hugfest a.k.a. standard Zack Stortini fight, makes me like this guy even more. WIN Rypien.

Posted by kngfan004 on October 20, 2009 at 04:09 AM

Snoretini...calls someone out yet again and gets hammered. What were you thinking..let me energize my team as the watch me get pummeled?

Posted by rowbearprobear on October 20, 2009 at 10:45 PM

oh jesus the way you guys are talking rypien up like he tore stortini's head off and shit down his throat 'taking the league by storm' gimme a break 'pound for pound' stortini did not look any worse for wear. he skated to the box like he just jogged a 5k! so 'ripper' landed some love taps big flippin deal win 'the ripper'

Posted by GodardRight on October 20, 2009 at 11:53 PM

Rick Rypien can pick apart anyone in league right now?????? LOL ok Godard would eat him for lunch and spit him back out but he did win this one. Anyone in league lol.

Posted by Davids on October 20, 2009 at 10:30 AM

Rypien by a wide margin.Whoever voted for Stortini,I think you better increase your meds.I'd like to see Rypien go with Bryce Salvador or Shawn Thornton.Believe they would be spirited fights.Rypien is the current version of Gary Howatt,or Stan Jonathan.

Posted by tattooedkingpin on October 20, 2009 at 11:42 AM

All Rypien in that one

Posted by staceyb on October 20, 2009 at 06:13 AM

Rypien just overwhelmed Stortini.

Posted by adambomb13 on October 21, 2009 at 06:41 PM

Rypien with an easy win over Huggy. mcb s*cks balls. Toughest guy pound for pound would easily be Sheldon Souray, though Rypien sure is making a good case.

Posted by dmac1983 on October 20, 2009 at 09:23 AM

Nice to see Stortini get punched/elbowed in the face. This guy is possibly the worst "heavyweight" is the league. Agree with "rugby" about Rypien facing off against Asham. Both are great middleweights and both are tough mother f-ckers.

Posted by digitalroc on October 25, 2009 at 03:09 PM

Who stated a draw or Sack win? LOL, 2% of voters, must have been Oiler fans. Rypien dominated all the way, this guy is an incredible fighter. Switches hands, uses the forearm/elbow to block, weaves and bobs, just a great fighter to watch. However Vancouver is a horrible team to watch.

Posted by leard3388 on October 21, 2009 at 05:46 PM

Rypien has great hand speed, I'll give that, but for a guy who lands alot of punches in his fights, he doesn't hurt anybody. And before somebody says it's because of his size, I don't buy it...look back at some of the good smaller fighters. Tucker 10 years ago, Morrow, Asham...when they connect it hurts. Is Rypien a good fighter? Yes he is...but please don't say he's the best "pound for pound".

Posted by KornyKev on October 20, 2009 at 11:24 AM

I like it when they agree to drop gloves right off a faceoff. "hey I don't like you. Let's Go!" "Alright." Rypien won.

Posted by thebigbea55 on October 19, 2009 at 11:42 PM

another win by rypien.. he can also play as well.. good speed and kill penalites as well..

Posted by kurtenbach on October 20, 2009 at 06:04 PM

Unanimous decision to Rypien. In his weight class Rypien has no equal. His boxing skills - both offence and defence - are exceptional and even more impressive since they have been adapted to the ice surface.

Posted by Mackyboy on October 20, 2009 at 12:05 PM

Domination by Rypien from the get go !

Posted by jkluhr on October 20, 2009 at 06:16 PM

Rypien is just an absolute monster, i love the way this guy fights, when he was 15 he played in the AJHL here in Alberta and was pounding 20 - 21 years olds on a regular basis. If he was a Heavy he would be right scary.

Posted by rpw1 on October 20, 2009 at 12:07 AM

Huggy Bear got worked.

Posted by LAKings on October 20, 2009 at 07:59 PM

Would love to have Rypien on my team.

Posted by Ripper20 on October 20, 2009 at 09:47 AM

Either mcb789 is A) Color blind - because he doesn't know Stortini is in the dark jersey...B) Helen Keller in disguise...C) Is a friend of Zack and doesn't want a 100% decision...or D) Is really that F'ing stupid. maybe he votes that way to piss the rest of us off. Anyway, Stortini gets pummelled again...Not even close. Ripper wins.

Posted by Screaming Buffalo on October 19, 2009 at 11:14 PM

Rypien easy win

Posted by dfane45 on January 08, 2010 at 02:28 PM

wow was that an over the top elbow at the end there? This guy throws a 100 punches a second

Posted by bruiser11 on October 20, 2009 at 11:15 AM

rypien manhandled stortini here..Stortini needs to learn better technique..casuse he looks horrible

Posted by rugby on October 19, 2009 at 11:50 PM

The good news is Stortini's fight strategy this season actually includes fighting. The bad news is a guy 50 pounds lighter schooled him for the second time in as many bouts. As much as I enjoy seeing Rypien go, I am fearful that he is going to mess with the wrong big boy at some point. Would love to see him and Asham meet up. Hey Brymaster1 "now if rypien had an ounce of hockey skill in him he would be a good player" Yeah, I sure hate going on a hockeyfight site and seeing players that want to drop the gloves. I wish they showed us some nice skilled shift clips to evaluate instead. This isn't a talent scouting site you knob! Obviously, Rypien and every guy we comment on, has more skill than you or I, b/c they are getting paid to play.

Posted by Flyersrock21 on October 20, 2009 at 12:10 AM

haha it looks like rypien lands a big elbow right at the 0.19 second mark. anyways domination rypien.

Posted by nighthawk walt on October 20, 2009 at 06:58 PM

stortini got a good old butt kicking from rypien!

Posted by redwingcharlie on October 20, 2009 at 12:49 PM

You gotta appreciate Rypien's defence. It's smart, safe, and leaves him in a position to counter-punch effectively. Its nice to see a good technical fighter, no matter his size, as opposed to a lot of the big guys who just employ the spinning ragdoll technique.

Posted by bruins rule on October 19, 2009 at 09:51 PM

rypien gets the win in this fight.nice punches by rypien throwing with both hands.

Posted by tiburon4 on October 20, 2009 at 12:10 PM

Fists of fury from Rypien: reminds me of UFC's Drew Mcfedries fights. Hands down Rypien.

Posted by Taubi on October 20, 2009 at 04:02 AM

rick win.

Posted by Grimm on October 20, 2009 at 07:02 AM

This Rypien is good. Stortini actualy fought this time though... BadBruin i agree, he fought a guy smaller and lighter and got his ass handed to him with a side of mashed potatoes. Rypien is undefeated for now, but sooner or later he'll cross paths with McGrattan, and unlike huggy bear Stortini, Gratts is a fucking animal.

Posted by baddawgpete on October 20, 2009 at 12:12 AM

Another good fight for the Ripper.... as for mcb789, pick up your remote and gswirch back to dancin with the stars....

Posted by SrqWingNut on October 19, 2009 at 11:16 PM

Rypien is one tough hombre, but mcb789 would own him. :P

Posted by Scouser on October 20, 2009 at 07:12 AM

Giving credit where it is due, Stortini is a much more entertaining fighter than he was twelve months ago and it is good to see. This was a closer bout than their last meeting but none the less, Rypien with the clear win.

Posted by SABREHATRED on October 20, 2009 at 08:42 AM

The Real Question is, Who Doesn't Own Stortini!!!! I think Winky Wussinsnip lost to Stortini in Third grade...... other than that......

Posted by kingsrule310 on October 21, 2009 at 11:16 PM

Pretty good fight. Rypien had more punches. win for rypien

Posted by balravens13 on October 22, 2009 at 08:53 PM

Everytime I watch a Stortini fight i always wonder why he still drops the gloves. He is exciting and seems to like it but this is another example of why he needs to practice more.

Posted by sundaygrundle on January 01, 2010 at 12:25 PM

Rypien is such a good fighter because he can fight with both hands equally as well. Good fight. Rypien clear winner

Posted by Dave Brown HOF on October 21, 2009 at 10:19 AM

Dominant win Rypien. I love the fact that all of the sudden, to a select uneducated few of you(just Canuck haters and nothing more), Rypien is now considered a bully. The 3 guys he's fought and beat the hell out of this season, 2 are consistent fighters, with one being a HW and the other one was a foot taller and 75 pounds heavier, yet Rypien is the bully and spot picker? That makes a lot of sense. Exactly who is he supposed to fight? For those people out there who can actually vote and comment on a fight without having bias enter into it, obviously have some credibility. Maybe the next time that Edmonton plays Calgary, Stortini and Prust can take off their mittens, hit each other a couple of times with their purses, go sit in the same penalty box, cry on each others shoulders and think about how Rypien bitch slapped both of them...TWICE. Then try and think about how much money it's going to cost them and how much face they're going to lose, by asking Macintyre and MCgrattan to try and go and take care of this big, mean Rypien bully the next time they play Vancouver.

Posted by b.t.wilson on October 20, 2009 at 10:26 PM

ha haaa oh man i love stortini for his spirit and that is IT. he clearly gets his arse handed to him, without a doubt, though he's not exactly staggering to the box after its over. love the way his helmet popped off. rypien, not close, called 'er an 8 for the energy more so than the damage inflicted, thats for sure.

Posted by basil73 on October 20, 2009 at 09:20 AM

Wow, this guy Ripper is almost unreal. At some point it seemed like Storweenie had no clue where to expect the punches from. And then take down of a man, who's at least 20lbs heavier. Rypien is a beast!

Posted by Madcheddar on October 19, 2009 at 10:01 PM

I guess Stortini doesn't have a very good memory. Rypien eats up another NHL chump...

Posted by Maxwerm on October 20, 2009 at 11:13 AM

I hate it when people say this, but . . . how in the hell could anyone have voted for Stortini? He may have landed a couple - maybe - but Rypien pretty much handed him his ass. The only thing I can think of is that those who voted for ZS just hate the Canucks or Rypien.

Posted by Towmater on October 20, 2009 at 06:39 PM

Whoever voted draw or Stortini must be on drug. Stortini's new style isn't winning anymore fights, but at least they're better to watch.

Posted by ogie ogiltorpe on October 25, 2009 at 12:29 AM

Stortini decides to throw for a change instead of hugging but Rypien thrashes him easily....not even close

Posted by homeland on October 20, 2009 at 10:30 AM

Posted by Finnish-Flash. on October 20, 2009 at 07:21 AM

Rypien is very good, he would win Barch easily. Flyersrock21: that is the way he defenses.

Posted by slavv on October 19, 2009 at 10:38 PM

Rypien again dominates! Rypien has great offense and defense. Watch how Rypien ducks a right from Stortini then lands an uppercut...beautiful!

Posted by SereneParadox on October 20, 2009 at 01:04 AM

Rypien is just amazing, favorite fighter.

rypien by far

Posted by slshbleed on October 20, 2009 at 09:14 AM

Rypper gets in tight but manages to avoid the Stortini bear hug. Snoretini is getting better, but will he be able to close the gap with the rest of the league and still have his marbles left?

Posted by marcus90 on October 20, 2009 at 01:21 AM

toughest pound for pound player in the league no contest

Posted by rocky 1 on October 20, 2009 at 06:39 PM

Put simply Rick Rypien is just too fast for the heavyweights. One hell of a little fighter.Zach although alot of you don,t like him will go with anyone. Also Stortini does better against the bigger guys then Rypien does.I have seen Rypien beat down by bigger guys.I feel that Rypien will be ko,d this year by one of the big heavys, believe me its gonna happen.Still i give this fight to Rypien who is king of the middleweights.Just did some checking and for you guys that said Rypien hasn,t lost check fight with Jeremy Reich of the Islanders .Jeremy clear winner in that fight and about the same size as well!

Posted by Puck Rock on December 11, 2009 at 01:30 PM

Thanks Stortini for showing up for your yearly beatdown

Posted by vangodard28 on June 29, 2011 at 03:32 PM

Storts is the biggest hug-fighter in the league. it doesn't work and deffinatly not against Rypien!

Posted by Jerjer on April 24, 2010 at 01:49 AM

Rypien is the ripper

Posted by mcb789 on October 19, 2009 at 10:59 PM

Posted by Oil Can Henry on October 19, 2009 at 11:41 PM

Not only does Stortini lose,....he looks mis-matched. How long before he's out of the league?

Posted by bloodchurn on October 20, 2009 at 11:20 AM

Rypien is amazing, I'm pretty sure he could pick apart anyone in the league right now.

Posted by claire alexande on October 21, 2009 at 02:22 AM

rypien is a good little fighter, but he's been spending too much time with bieksa--the guy is turning into a shameless fight picker. he doesn't do so well against actual fighters, like jeremy reich or douglas murray.

Posted by goody72 on October 22, 2009 at 12:54 AM

Rypien with the win over Stortini.

Posted by J.R. Abel on January 07, 2010 at 05:17 PM

WIn Rypien

Posted by gmr133 on October 21, 2009 at 01:47 PM

Clear, easy win for Rypien. WHY is Stortini still collecting a paycheck in the NHL? The Oilers can't find one better fighter in all of the minor leagues? The could probably pick a fan based on seat ticket number and find somebody who can fight better than Stortini. I take nothing away from Rypien--he's a tough little guy. But Stortini gets schooled by a guy 5 inches shorter and 35 lbs lighter. Just flailing away. Sad.

Posted by STL13 on October 20, 2009 at 11:39 PM

Once again, how in the hell could anyone vote for Stortini? (2%) Rypien manhandled him like a ragdoll..... It couldn't have even been considered a draw! (1.4%) It's a major flaw to vote for somoene because you like him, if someone gets beat up, they get beat up. NOT voting is better than lying! Rypien in a lansdlide....15 more seconds and it's a KO! FYI: I don't like the Canucks but I vote with my mind, not my heart!

Posted by PitbullX on October 19, 2009 at 10:02 PM

Win Rypien, Stortini is no match for him.

Posted by PuckmaninMN on October 24, 2009 at 10:06 AM

Rypien with the clear win here. Stortini looked like a school girl trying to fend off the barrage of punches from RR. In fact, I think I saw Stortini actually slap fight a couple of shots. Of course, the fight ends in typicaly Storweini fashion....a mandatory take down. Closed circuit to Zach: If you're going to fight in the NHL, at least try and win more than 1 per year. It's embarrassing to watch you fight. Seriously.

Posted by goob on October 20, 2009 at 09:00 AM

Great fight!!! I love this guy. I have to agree that he might find himself in big trouble with a bruiser who can swing um. His punches don't seem to have much on them and if he ran into someone like Godard he might be in for some ZZZZZZZZz's. What a joy to watch.....I love it when he switches back and forth.....He should put on a clinic...............HA........He just did!!!!! The guy who spoke of his hockeyskill.........
