eh practice round. . .DJ missing that first shot was more his fault than Gillies credit.

draw the refs should have let them go some more, cant wait to see the next better bout

Posted by pepsigenerate on October 13, 2010 at 10:51 PM

evenly bout,King loses balance same time gilles connected, but it had no effect on King,Draw.

Posted by Caps44 on October 13, 2010 at 11:22 PM

At the game, and it looked like King slipped prior to being hit. It's obvious from the clip that neither were hurt. Throughout the game, there were clearly many slips. I've rarely seen Ovechkin whiff on the puck, but he did tonight, esp. in this corner. I was expecting Konepka and King to have the disagreement. I wonder what happened?

Good tussle, great moustache!!

Posted by xoptimuscrimex on October 14, 2010 at 12:11 AM

you cant even say Gillies won this fight. King not only landed better punches, but also slipped due to the phonebooth's shitty ice. Its definately a draw. The officials stepped in wayy too early on this one. King looked poised for a knockout blow right when the fight was broken up.

Posted by alayhockey on October 14, 2010 at 05:38 PM

this could have been a really good bout if dj could have kept his balance, gilles is a terrible hockey player and wont be in the league very long, but good energy in this one

Posted by m4rine77 on October 13, 2010 at 10:55 PM

i can't decide if the lefts by gillies buckled king or he lost his balance. they didn't look too powerful. the rights by king that landed however looked like they were pretty brutal. gotta give this one a draw. good fight

Posted by tjoshielover on November 14, 2010 at 04:23 PM

It was kind of a crappy fight but like it or not you know who was hit harder. Fight went to king. End of story.

not bad

Posted by e19Ht on October 13, 2010 at 10:26 PM

How the hell can you say DJ lost?? He muscled gillies and got good shots in too. Dj with the win easily. And is still the Heavyweight Champ.

Posted by nycbob on October 14, 2010 at 09:49 AM

and they will all duck Boogard

Posted by MonkeyQuatro on October 15, 2010 at 01:42 AM

Typical NHL fight...Gillies had the slight upper hand...nothing great out of this one.

For those just watching the clip that didn't watch the game a couple of notes... First, King was at the end of a hard skating shift when challenged after a nice body check. During the circling you might have noticed King bending over a bit (elbows towards his knees) getting his breath. After serviing his 5 he was back out on the ice no worse for the wear. Second, I did not see Gillies skate another shift after the fight. I didn't see King land anything substantial to keep him out. Hopefully Gillies didn't hurt a hand or pull something during the bout. It could be with the score so close thoughout the game the coach had him riding the pine. Let's hope that was the case. I give Gillies the win, but It was in no way a KO, TKO or even a stunning blow. You can clearly see King with his right cocked ready to come back firing when the linesmen stepped in. I would love to see these guys go when they are both fresh!!!

Posted by kryon24 on October 14, 2010 at 10:41 AM

Gotta give it to Stache2 with that last left as it looked to buckle King. Waiting to see the battle of the Porn staches (Parros vs Gillies) and who will be crowned champ and who will have to shave.

Posted by Riomouse911 on October 15, 2010 at 12:49 AM

I thought King was doing ok, then whak! TG took his legs out with that punch.

Posted by paddyd on October 14, 2010 at 09:57 AM

Two big surprises yesterday King got dropped and so did Orr.

Posted by lb1631 on October 14, 2010 at 04:08 PM

gillies nice hair but he won the fight.

Posted by flyerguy on October 14, 2010 at 01:48 PM

ANYONE that voted for King is a blind tool bag, learn the game. CLEAR win for Gillies

Posted by bruiseyoureye on October 13, 2010 at 10:43 PM

gillies with the win. gillies was just about to k.o. king before the referees intervened. king was in big trouble.

Posted by jvwood1 on October 14, 2010 at 08:40 AM

Wow...never thought I'd se DJ go like that. Good scrap strategy by Gilles...

Posted by SgtKenney on October 14, 2010 at 09:46 AM

DJ King looked like garbage in this fight. He tried, but couldnt get anything going. Gillies with the win.

Posted by Bullybeatdown on October 14, 2010 at 01:52 AM

Posted by simon mac on October 14, 2010 at 09:49 AM

time for "The Stache to take out the trash"....

Posted by SombreMarch on October 19, 2010 at 08:54 PM

Nice win for Gillies in this one and as pointed out below King is OVERRATED. Bad move by the Capitals to aquire him

Posted by lovejoy on October 14, 2010 at 02:44 AM

Gillies won. BTW his old-school moustache looks great!!

Posted by Behn Wilson on October 14, 2010 at 12:17 AM

When I first saw the match-up in the box-scores, I knew it would be fierce. Gilles makes a great move to get King's helmet off early, but King uses his strength and control, to trade more effectively in the first flurry. But then. he seems to briefly lose his balance, and Gilles pounces with a series of lefts that (seemingly) bring King to one knee. Whether he connected, or not... surprise edge (to me, anyway) to Gilles in a close one.

Posted by OriginalSix on December 29, 2010 at 08:37 AM

WIN Gillies, 'Stache and all!

Posted by Spug on October 14, 2010 at 04:35 AM

Solid left makes King take a knee, win Gillies.

Posted by Juha82 on October 15, 2010 at 05:25 AM

Close, EDGE Gillies. King landed 3-4 good shots int his one, one short uppercut and few straight rights in the exchange later where Gillies landed 2 good punches. looked like one shot stunned King, and caused partly a falling to the ice. but more a slip to me, or even bail out by King.

Posted by Rotorhead on October 14, 2010 at 02:16 PM

okay scrap, too much pre-fight dancing with little in substance.. They'll meet each other many times this season and it should be better in future rounds.

Posted by Dave Brown HOF on October 19, 2010 at 04:39 PM

Gillies was impressive here. I thought that King would be able to handle him but he got handled himself. I'm sure that even DJ is embarrassed that his parents voted for him because even he would tell you that he ate 3 times more than what he gave.

Posted by staceyb on October 14, 2010 at 06:02 AM

Gillies wins with the thundering lefts at the end.

Posted by bruiser11 on October 14, 2010 at 12:00 AM

Gillies is a beast

Posted by bruins rule on October 13, 2010 at 11:29 PM

gillies gets the win in this fight.

Posted by slavv on October 14, 2010 at 10:44 PM

King started okay but once he missed with a right he got buckled. Gillies landed more and he was more effective. Round 2 should be good...

Posted by st. bernard on October 18, 2010 at 11:17 PM

gilles win against a tough king

Posted by fernben8 on October 14, 2010 at 12:28 PM

Gillies shows how strong he is and will do well as long as he can keep his opponents close to him. I feel he will have trouble with guys who have a reach advantage ( the likes of Goddard or even Peters ) as he lacks the flexibility to reach with his punches. A respectful Win over DJ...

Posted by 5fourfighten on November 05, 2010 at 07:14 PM

Gillies with the harder punches. BTW Gillies took at least 2 additional shifts. short ones (1:16 toi) As the announcer was saying Gillies only played one shift they were playing a highlite of two of his hits. From two different shifts LOL

Posted by micky buchanan on October 14, 2010 at 12:55 AM

Gotta give it to Gillies on the last punch that dropped DJ to his knees.

Posted by abcde on October 15, 2010 at 08:41 AM

King doesnt get much ice time so he wanted to do a little skating around during the fight.

Posted by Blues 34 on October 14, 2010 at 04:30 PM

King hasnt been dropped in his NHL Career that I know of until now great showing by gillies one of those lefts dropped King.

Posted by DARCY T on October 17, 2010 at 03:50 PM

it looked little bit like tko to me.win gillies

Posted by Chaserfan39 on October 14, 2010 at 07:54 PM

Gillies with the knockdown

Posted by scorp1on on October 14, 2010 at 06:44 AM

Took a long time to get going. Some grabbing once they engaged. King gets going first and looks strong early but hits air with one and exposes himself to a Gillies hammer or two which decidely changes the momentum. King is dazed enough to drop and duck and the zebras intervene.

Posted by Clowes ABeast29 on October 13, 2010 at 10:50 PM

Ohh yeah gotta love a lefty! hahah

Posted by jbaktai on October 15, 2010 at 06:42 AM

Gillies win, i never thought i'd say that before i saw the fight. Wasnt too impressed with the skating around for 30 seconds and then fighting for only 10.

Posted by sedinfan on October 13, 2010 at 11:26 PM

how do you spell King, OVERRATED! Nice win for Gillies, those of you who voted for King need glasses or are homers.

Posted by deandog22 on October 14, 2010 at 11:24 AM

For the idiot that said Gillies didn't play another shift should have watched the game. As far as King being at the end of his shift, he had enough energy to take a cheep shot while the other Caps player held the guy up. If he has enough energy for that he should have been prepared to take a beating from Gillies. King should have known better with Gillies on the ice.

Posted by Ozzmosis on October 13, 2010 at 11:44 PM

Gillies, no question.

Posted by RogerNYLA on October 14, 2010 at 03:00 AM

Gillies gets and edge with a stronger finish.

Posted by 29th_Candidate on October 17, 2010 at 03:49 AM

Close one, but it looks like Gillies staggered King with that final flurry of head blows.

Posted by BLUES2017 on January 16, 2011 at 10:19 AM

Nice to see king get it handed to him....i hope he keeps it up.

Posted by EDDUBBS on October 14, 2010 at 03:05 AM

Capitals should have played King more to get him in the flow of the season. But the Caps are losers and frauds and taking up valuable roster spots by even having a team. That being said -Porno Stash II wins this one with a shot to the temple

Posted by tattooedkingpin on October 15, 2010 at 04:58 PM

good fight. W for Gillies

Posted by rocky 1 on October 14, 2010 at 02:09 AM

King early and Gillies late with the knockdown win!I like the Homers King wins ,what a loud of sissy crap .When your fighter gets knocked to the ice by two solid lefts he loses its that simple. Then another homer saying DJ king is still the heavy weight champ of the NHL. The guy must be sniffing bad glue! King Loses this fight and never has been the toughest in the league by far!

Posted by cigaros on October 17, 2010 at 12:10 AM

I see about every Blues game and I have never seen DJ out matched like this while he was here. Gillies did his homework, but DJ does his as well and will make this up.

Posted by Gilliesfan14 on January 22, 2011 at 08:35 AM

Gillies killed him at the end.

Posted by dropem69 on October 14, 2010 at 09:35 PM

Good fight! Both throwing good punches! Could have went either way. Gillies cought him with a good one and down went King.....

Wow ! Good scrap!!! Kings stunned him early - but Gillies comes back with his own shot to stun King! Good fight! Two tough combatants!

Posted by balravens13 on October 13, 2010 at 11:06 PM

I am not sure if those lefts did King in but King did dominate the fight with his strength and got in some really god shots. Gillies did good against a top 3 fighter. It must be ll that karate training. Draw

Posted by Radiotalker on November 16, 2010 at 01:17 AM

King popped the lid off and then slipped. Slight edge to Kinger.

Posted by Viper207 on October 13, 2010 at 09:56 PM

Gillies buckles King's knees with two strong lefts, though I think DJ could have continued if the linesmen didn't step in. Still, big win for GIllies.

Posted by Creeway on October 14, 2010 at 11:58 PM

Refs moved in too quick. Should have let them throw some more.

Posted by hossasux1 on October 16, 2010 at 09:28 PM

Gillies with the finish!

Posted by Oil Can Henry on October 13, 2010 at 11:34 PM

Gillies wins it,...putting King down with the left to the body then going up to the head.

Posted by ProbieForever on October 14, 2010 at 12:28 AM

Three lefts to finish it gives Gillies the edge.

Posted by chad420 on October 14, 2010 at 03:06 PM

The Real Stache with an upset victory

Posted by CocoQuaker7 on October 15, 2010 at 04:43 PM

Posted by dorian on October 14, 2010 at 01:08 AM

So much for the hype surrounding D.J. King.

Posted by BritishRedWing on October 14, 2010 at 06:35 PM

Win Gillies.

Posted by muskokadangler on October 14, 2010 at 11:19 AM

Well .........2 of my big picks and favorites have fallen tonight......WTF :) Behn.....I'm callin ya out....It wasn't close!!!!! King got hit looked terrible and sure Gillies has been fighting everywhere(I'v seen lots of his fights) but They weren't in the Show So IMO just as Orr might have lost his luster as Elite ....So to should King....That is based on your ONE FIGHT Elite LUSTER Lost conclusion> Check out some great compilations on you tube and I think you will see that Orr fightsa a certain way that is conducesive do GETTTING SMOKED every once in awhile My factoring as an elite is how they respond after a BIG loss...A la PROBIE

Posted by travist on October 16, 2010 at 12:23 AM

GREAT tilt, look forward to this all season long...nice to see the caps get a good fighter on their squad...

Posted by samtheman on October 14, 2010 at 05:47 AM

Edge to Gillies.

Posted by BigBadBruins68 on October 14, 2010 at 12:03 AM

Gillies lands hard against King to take the win. Parros has some competition this year, somewhere down the line I wanna see battle of the Staches!

Posted by chiefdon24 on October 14, 2010 at 02:07 PM

Gillies wins with a strong finish. King landed a couple early but Gillies knocked him off balance and dropped him with solid left. King is good and Gillies has been very good in his short stint for Isles. Looking forward to a rematch.

Posted by Big_Fat_Dan on October 15, 2010 at 07:10 AM

Good to see to HW's throwing bombs and not worrying about any kind of defence, but it was Gillies who connected to send King down to one knee. Bonus points for the handle bar :) good bout.

Posted by pvdrummer2000 on March 02, 2015 at 12:54 AM

Man I've never see King get staggered like that!
