Not quite sure why Thornton votes are dominating. This was a draw as several punches were landed and missed by both of these stars. Nice to see both of these guys standing up and getting the crowd into a game that had gone pretty close to lifeless though.

Posted by DARCY T on February 25, 2013 at 03:43 PM

solid draw...both guys landed some blows

Posted by Heyzeus on February 24, 2013 at 02:08 AM

Benn with the domination win over the bigger Captain Board Humper..And the Gordie to Benn as well. I'm honestly surprised Joe is willing to go with anyone after having his face destroyed by Lindros back in his Boston days. But seriously, this was a draw. I don't understand all the Thornton love..

Posted by Tony Esposito on February 23, 2013 at 10:42 PM

It's about time Thornton stood up and acted like a captain of a team that is really in the toilet right now. I've always questioned his leadership ability and this helps. Nice job Joe.

Quickly on his way to becoming my new favourite current 19... Thornton does almost everything right - from the glove shake invite - to initiating the mutual helmet toss - to taking a solid opening shot and still hanging in there - to tactically exchanging power shots - to dropping Benn with a monster shot to close the deal Great even bout with a slight edge to Thornton for that last shot and the slo-mo ehanced fact that Benn seems to enter most of the exchanges with his eyes closed

Posted by cible on February 24, 2013 at 03:15 AM

One of the most spirited fight between two star player that i can remember!!!!Thornthon in a very close fight! WOW!!!

Posted by sedinfan on February 24, 2013 at 07:17 PM

Great fight, two great players showing their true grit.

Posted by Mounty in NC on February 25, 2013 at 04:41 PM

That was a pretty good bout...Thornton probably got an extra punch or two but it's too close to call. Going with a draw

Posted by hawkwing24 on February 26, 2013 at 08:58 AM

decent tilt--props to taking off the helmets! you don't see cheezie leaf "so called" fighters do that often....... no rag dolling or dancing either..... just fists DRAW

Posted by indiggo on February 24, 2017 at 08:21 AM

Was expecting more, draw.

Posted by Don Berry on February 24, 2013 at 11:11 AM

I thought that was a pretty good! I give it draw

Posted by chill16 on February 24, 2013 at 10:14 AM

This was a draw all the way. Both landed decent punches and no one stood out from the other.

Posted by Jordybats99 on February 03, 2016 at 12:15 PM

Decent fight from two tough tough star players. Calling a draw.

Posted by dyerardi on February 24, 2013 at 08:39 AM

Obviously some Joe fans came on here first. That fight is the epitome of a DRAW.

Posted by von_swine on February 26, 2013 at 04:43 AM

both dudes go for the quick jab and then set to it,..the rest is what 'hockey' needs in this day and age...not just ham fisted mechanics, but guys at the top caring enough about their squad to risk breaking a hand. that's the old way, and the RIGHT way... going w/a D, even tho big Joe prolly 'won' this fight... other teams and star players take notice; the Cup is what ALL of you dicks are fighting for, EVERY step of the way. dig it!

Posted by MeLikeHockey on February 24, 2013 at 03:56 PM

It was an entertaining bout. Both got in some great punches. And it helped propel the Stars to the win. Bloodbath--the Stars broadcast is a simulcast. Ralph and Razor have to call the game for tv and radio...radio, i.e. The Theater of the Mind requires more description than tv. It's not "homerism" anyone who has listened or watched the Stars on a regular basis know that they'll note bad calls etc for both the Stars and the opposing teams. Last night was no exception.

Watching two good players scrap is the best.

Posted by AC1026 on February 25, 2013 at 04:16 PM

Great fight!! Solid Draw for me...

Posted by ChuckinKnuckles on February 24, 2013 at 02:16 PM

Good scrap, Benn early, Joe late. Draw all the way.

Posted by hockeyfan8311 on February 25, 2013 at 12:00 PM

Both got some good shots in on one another, Thornton pulled him down at the end of the fight, Gotta call this a draw.

Posted by woodworker11 on February 26, 2013 at 02:58 PM

Benn should cut the hair so he can where he's throwing! He might have seen the bomb coming for his forehead. Draw.

Nice fight, what a dance.

Posted by endor on February 24, 2013 at 12:44 PM

Great bout!! A draw.

Posted by jnk07899 on February 25, 2013 at 11:43 AM

This fight was great. The way they set it up was perfect. Also, the announcers really sold it and made it awesome. An all-around awesome fight. I gave it a 9 and a draw, but with the slightest edge to Thornton. Didn't like the nut shot to start it off but this was a great bout. Possibly the best of the year thus far, but the fight got amped up by the site, the announcers, and the setup... It was all sold very well.

Posted by FreekyFreezer on June 03, 2013 at 06:19 AM

i don't think thornton won just because he dragged down benn as both guys had good punches. this was the best fight i have seen this season. benn is a great player tho, played for my home team during the lockout.

Posted by redlenses on February 24, 2013 at 04:38 AM

San Jose fan here, but pretty even fight. I think Thornton landed more blows, but Been stuck in there and got some licks in too. I give it a draw.

Posted by Orr Fourever on February 24, 2013 at 05:57 AM

Hey Joe. Where was this leadership when you played in Boston? huh? Jamie Behn he is gonna be a star in the "N" for a long time. Now to the fight. Good stuff nice to see the lid toss. I call a draw boy's. Big Joe should have dominated the smaller Behn. Jamie did rather well I think. I really did'nt like Joe with the stick to the berries! Ouch.

Posted by DontToewsMeBro on February 24, 2013 at 11:20 PM

great fight. thornton would have pounded him if it werent for the quick one on the jaw in the very beginning from benn but that super slowmo was a straight shot. draw!

Posted by Bloodbank on February 23, 2013 at 11:34 PM

Never heard an announcer get so excited over a guy taking off a helmet. Clean up in aisle Daryl Reaugh! Edge Thornton.

Posted by kd1518 on March 13, 2013 at 10:05 AM

The battle goes to joe, but benn wins the war. Picking up the win was huge and benn got them going

Posted by cbroom on February 25, 2013 at 10:47 AM

A DRAW, at best...

Posted by tyrone on February 25, 2013 at 12:49 PM

All SHAWN THORNTON. As for those of you who are questioning it, you must hate the Sharks, or better yet, go to the "i" doctor.

Posted by thew2589 on March 01, 2013 at 06:07 PM

The live feed had a better view of the fight, Thornton landed better shots. Win to Thornton

Posted by mullet33 on February 24, 2013 at 01:02 AM

My review will never make it to the top - but a draw none the less. Edge Benn, mainly due to getting the Gordie Howe Hat Trick.

Posted by J3fff on February 25, 2013 at 03:20 PM

good fight, why the lopsidedness?

Posted by Arkie without h on February 25, 2013 at 08:51 PM

Both landed solid shots that helped energize both teams and crowd. Slight edge to Benn

Posted by StarsFan71 on February 26, 2013 at 06:29 AM

Close but Benn with the win.

Posted by dahl7 on February 24, 2013 at 10:11 AM

Good solid fight, Thorton early, Benn late. Benn's punches seemed to land more and more effectively so I give him the nod.

Posted by slysi on June 01, 2016 at 12:17 PM

slight edge to BENN ( LOOKED LIKE THORTON ) got his nose bloodied ) GOSH I wish the BLACK HAWKS would trade KANE to the STARS for BENN !

Posted by meangreenp1 on January 06, 2014 at 08:37 PM

I give the slight edge to Benn but the huge win to Ralph and Razor for their amazing call of the fight. They are the best broadcast team in any sport hands down and I wouldn't even say hockey is my favorite sport.

Posted by tomthescrew on February 24, 2017 at 12:04 AM

Credit to Thornton but to rate this fight a 7 or higher is a joke

Posted by Bagger454 on February 25, 2013 at 06:46 PM

I agree with the posts that this was a draw. You could argue Thornton landed a couple of harder punches but good back and forth action in this one.

Posted by paniolo on February 25, 2013 at 02:34 AM

Good fight ... even fight ... draw

Posted by kkdowning on February 24, 2013 at 10:25 AM

Props to both of these guys -- they threw with bad intent, after taking off the lids. "chucking knuckles" and "circling like roosters" from the announcer -- good stuff

Posted by NHO3713 on March 04, 2013 at 01:31 PM

nothing better than when two fighters agree to drop the buckets, great fight

Posted by goody72 on February 24, 2013 at 08:50 PM

Great fight!! Draw.

Posted by Radiotalker on February 28, 2013 at 11:49 AM

Both got in some good pops. Give it a draw. Can understand the votes for Thornton, though.

Posted by bigdog2007 on February 24, 2013 at 02:25 PM

Big Joe should fight more often

Posted by snowave on February 24, 2013 at 04:56 PM

close tilt, but gotta give it to Joe. Can't stand the guy, but he's pumped this week... good to see.

Posted by Big_Fat_Dan on February 25, 2013 at 01:55 AM

Jumbo goes again!

Posted by mikecan on February 24, 2013 at 06:37 PM

Spirited bout, Joe gets the decision. Gotta love talented guys with an edge!

Posted by KDR398 on February 24, 2013 at 09:13 PM

Good scrap. Slight edge to JT.

Give it to Thornton barely but love the first quick punch by Benn

Posted by Ed Van Impe on February 24, 2013 at 03:15 PM

Thornton wins ... and he gets Benn off the ice ... bad trade off for Dallas ...

Posted by Senatorfan2013 on July 01, 2013 at 06:19 PM

Slight edge to Joe......I love seeing the stars fight and they actually threw! Wish i saw this earlier

Posted by Scatheist on April 24, 2014 at 05:42 PM

Joe doesn't fight often, but when he does, he wins.

Posted by rocky 1 on February 24, 2013 at 02:34 AM

Fairly even fight untilll Thornton lands a blow that sends Ben to the ice!Nice to see a couple of talented players throw down!

Posted by Knuckles McGhee on February 24, 2013 at 03:10 AM

The last punch on the replay pulled my vote towards Jumbo Joe... Good tilt all around on a quiet Saturday night.

Posted by flyers2114 on February 24, 2013 at 10:29 AM

Jumbo caught him with 2 good shots..

Posted by staceyb on February 25, 2013 at 05:24 AM

Thornton takes it at the end, especially with that bonecrushing right. Still, Jamie Benn was all over the scoresheet with the Gordie Howe hat trick in the Stars victory. The only thing he didn't do was block a shot. Everything else, he did. Brenden Morrow said in the between periods interview that the fight was a pick-me-up for the team.

Posted by bammer24 on February 24, 2013 at 02:18 PM

When the Bruins traded Joe they wanted him to do more of this to be like Lindros.I think he just missing that intensity to go out and be that way.He has the skill as a hockey player but to fight alot it`s just not in him.He wins this one but not by domination.Still one of the dumbest trades for the Bruins.

Posted by BillyBuzzBomb on February 24, 2013 at 12:49 PM

I love these surprise brawls. 2 guys who none of us would have guessed would be swinging at all much less with each other makes 'Ol Dave the Tiger Williams smile a little.

Posted by FightWithSkates on February 24, 2013 at 01:53 PM

Thornton is starting to develop a reputation if he keeps beating up all-stars. Thornton is the winner. Solid punch at the end there too, that was no "twirl down"

Posted by Blues 34 on February 23, 2013 at 11:50 PM

Great tilt between 2 star players. Edge win Thornton

Posted by Phantoms on February 25, 2013 at 01:56 PM

Good scrap. Love that Shawn Thornton is not the only Thornton carrying the tilt torch. Color commentary was solid.

Posted by tonydomi1 on February 24, 2013 at 09:05 AM

Great tilt between 2 very skilled players!! Gave a slight edge to Thornton with more power shots landed...

Posted by Kaderson on February 24, 2013 at 12:33 AM

close fight, edge jumbo joe

Posted by Bluetiedown44 on February 25, 2013 at 12:35 AM

Nod to Thornton here, he seemed to connect more. Benn was a bit of scrapper when he first came up. Nice to see both guys involved in all aspects of the game.

Posted by GreatMurray on February 24, 2013 at 06:58 AM

Good job boys...that's the way you do it...money for nothing...chicks for free! Gotta give it to Thornton...but what a great fight. Good on Benn too!!!

Posted by nait on February 24, 2013 at 01:25 PM

It's nice to see guys who will take the lids off first. Though that way Been's downfall

Posted by BruinsBeatdown on February 24, 2013 at 11:03 AM

Great scrap! I give the edge to Jumbo Joe with the brain rattler at the end, but the respect goes to both of the fighters for dropping the lids. Its become something all to infrequent these days. Gave this one a solid 7.

Posted by JayDel on February 24, 2013 at 11:39 AM

Benn with some decent shots but Jumbo Joe lands the biggest shots... Looks like he actually remembered how to fight notwithstanding he abandoned that part of his game years ago. Win Thornton.

Posted by OlKoot on February 24, 2013 at 12:57 PM

Good to see Joe with a bit fire in his belly. Benn did well to hang in there and land couple of good ones. Decision to Joe though for sure.

Posted by dieseldawg989 on February 25, 2013 at 02:10 AM

Pretty decent bout. Both landed a handful of punches, but when you look at the little short jabs, I think Big Joe Thornton won in the jab category. My vote is to Thornton, but a good fight.

Posted by QUIGGS22 on February 26, 2013 at 03:42 PM

Win Big Joe

Posted by mjb_17 on February 25, 2013 at 11:09 AM

People wondeing why Thornton is getting all the love and votes...it's because he WON! Landed the better punches. Give Benn credit though.

Posted by bajo39 on February 24, 2013 at 09:09 AM

Edge Thornton but tempted to go draw because of the quality put in by Benn. What a show, my oh my. And the lid toss, because it was uneccessary with no visors, made it that much better. A lot of character here from two good Canadian boys. Don't see that in the Euro leagues, that's for sure.

Posted by Jellyczar on February 25, 2017 at 12:06 PM

Good old school fight ... Better shots landed by Thornton .... Slow mo tells it all....

Posted by sirjohn3 on July 30, 2013 at 02:08 PM

Nice fight for talented players.

Posted by steveo1313 on March 06, 2013 at 03:03 AM

Hell of a fight from some big bodied stars! I'd say slight edge to Joe for the finish. Great fight!

Posted by chris72gross on August 12, 2018 at 03:50 AM

From the first angle I thought that Benn got the better of the scrap, but from the second angle it was fairly cleat that Thornton landed the most and best shots. Decision: Thornton, in a close and great bout!

Posted by MilburyKOMyKid on February 26, 2013 at 06:26 PM

Joe landed the biggest punch of the fight, which ended it. Clear win. Makes Benn look lame for people to make false stories about how he won. Joe is bigger and he won, no shame for Benn. That Thornton missed some punches doesn't make it a draw. "When the Bruins traded Joe they wanted him to do more of this to be like Lindros. Still one of the dumbest trades for the Bruins." Bruins ended up flipping the players in that deal to be Seidenberg and Ference. Thornton never won a cup nor scored 30 since leaving Boston, so not an awful deal.

Great fight from a couple of great guys, enjoyed watching this one.

Posted by SharkTank19 on February 28, 2013 at 10:10 PM

Joe Thornton is my favorite player. AND I call it a slight edge to Joe. Both players only connected a few times. Nice scrap between two men.

Posted by MJX_SF on February 24, 2013 at 05:50 PM

Classic, Both dropped gloves and took of helmets, just a great show. Thorton won but Benn got in some good ones.

Posted by MernSauce on February 24, 2013 at 11:21 PM

I think thorton had the upper had through the whole fight, just didnt land as many as he tried for

Posted by Chrisandsuch on February 25, 2013 at 06:10 PM

Definitely a draw. Yes, Thronton got some good blows in there, but Benner landed some great shots as well. Both missed a couple. Great scrap. I vote draw.

Posted by LJS on February 23, 2013 at 10:09 PM

Benn put up a prettty good effort, buy Thorton pounded him. Just about knocked him out.

Posted by SouthPaw017 on February 24, 2013 at 11:56 AM

One of the more action filled and spirited fights this year... Very close... I have to go draw...

Posted by MikeyS22 on February 23, 2013 at 10:13 PM

I guess if someone spears you in the taint you have to fight. Good solid fight by two talented players. Reminds of the days of Neely, Clark, Tocchet, Stevens etc when the stars fought.

Posted by fernben8 on February 23, 2013 at 11:51 PM

If there's a Code within the Code, this is it...and it applies to all sports, Ya ? Nobody (I mean nobody ) touches the family jewels. Gotta love it. ' An eye for an eye and a ball for a ball.' (or something like that) I think Thorts knocked Benn down on the last punch.

Posted by FHgrad99 on February 24, 2013 at 03:10 AM

This was a pretty good fight for two guys who don't usually drop the mitts. You could tell that the announcers were having fun calling this one. I think Thornton landed a few more punches and gets the win here.

Posted by b.t.wilson on February 24, 2013 at 02:18 AM

Slightest of edges to Thornton. I like both of these guys. Entertaining fight, 7.

Posted by pepsigenerate on February 24, 2013 at 02:25 AM

what a crappy ass fight, boring ass fights in the NHL so far..lets have some real heavyweights square off,not these milk drinking church boys

Posted by slavv on February 25, 2013 at 07:14 PM

The way the commentators made it sound you would think it was Jackass Edwards calling a fight in favor of a Bruins player who actually got his ass kicked. Definite win for Thornton....

Posted by paulpeta on February 23, 2013 at 10:55 PM

Even fight but Benn got that first blow in.

Posted by RoadRiverRail on February 23, 2013 at 10:05 PM

Some hard shots bookending sweater grappling. I think Jumbo got the harder hit, but I wouldn't say there was a winner. Draw, but entertaining.

Posted by Shoeman72 on February 23, 2013 at 10:49 PM

Close one and an awesome scrap. Both did well but edge to the old man.

Posted by Mike Kole on February 23, 2013 at 11:23 PM

Thornton loses the lid like a boss. Pretty even, edge Thornton

Posted by JohnnyI on February 23, 2013 at 10:15 PM

Great go for two millionaires...

Posted by shawn46 on February 24, 2013 at 10:25 AM

I like how Robidas gives jumbo an "excuse me, let me get out of your way" pass. I wouldn't say Thornton "dominated" although that super so-mo helped create that impression and after the camera work on the last two this one looked like a main event.Joe still wins

Posted by Kordic64 on February 23, 2013 at 10:13 PM

I agree with RoadRiver, entertaining scrap. However, I give a slight edge to Thornton.

Posted by VonCali on February 23, 2013 at 10:01 PM

Benn lands a good one immediately but the rest miss, Joe controls and lands a good better one later. W - Jumbo

Posted by fightslikebambi on February 23, 2013 at 10:00 PM

Pretty spirited. Pretty even. Draw and a 7.

Posted by Clowes ABeast29 on February 23, 2013 at 10:12 PM

With clowe suspended for nothing We have jack shit... Way to go joe.

Posted by Aznry5 on February 23, 2013 at 10:15 PM

That was a pretty good scrap and a pretty epic intro to the fight. Can't shake the slow-mo of Thornton clocking Benn so I'll give the W to Jumbo Joe but still very close. Like how he's throwing down this year he hasn't done that in awhile.

Posted by nuckles88 on February 23, 2013 at 11:19 PM

New found respect for my fellow vancouver islander jamie benn :) really steps up here against jumbo joe who ever since he got his face broken only goes after smaller guys he knows he can beat. No clear winner, big shots landed for both guys. Draw but an entertaining one!

Posted by richcasper88 on February 23, 2013 at 11:03 PM

This is how every fight in the NHL should take place. The sticks are dropped before both players take off their gloves, elbow pads AND helmets. Then square up and throw down. Great fight. Thornton win. GO SHARKS.

Posted by Klutzleo on February 23, 2013 at 10:12 PM

Benn hit Thorton in the beans, Thorton took it out on Benn's face. Close fight.

Posted by Gunslinger on February 23, 2013 at 10:02 PM

Nothing to see hear. Everybody move along. Sad part is why these guys have to fight in the first place. Get some muscle Stars/Sharks.

Posted by chad420 on February 24, 2013 at 01:13 PM

win Jumbo Joe....its about time he showed from fire in his belly

Posted by Riomouse911 on February 25, 2013 at 05:38 PM

I'll give "No-show Joe" the win over Benn, than last donk on the bean sealed it for JT.
