Was I watching that fight in slow motion? They looked tired before they even started. Weak.

Posted by Truk on December 04, 2010 at 04:09 PM

Stand up boy! Boogey looked like Parros out there falling all over the place.

Posted by kronvallizer78 on December 03, 2010 at 11:54 AM

Quit sucking Boogards c*** Rangers homers this was the epitome of a draw. Boogard threw many but hardly landed any! Gillies hung in there throughout.

Posted by BrettB on December 03, 2010 at 02:58 PM

Boogaard firing away at everything. Gillies holds on for dear life. No clear winner.

Posted by Detroit_Caps on December 03, 2010 at 08:14 AM

Points to Gillis for not dying. That was a hell of a smart fight and he wasnt phased by many a blow.

Posted by yngblonde1 on December 03, 2010 at 09:07 AM

What a crap fight. You have a dancing bear fighting a scared to death little dear. The bear swatted at him and the deer kept ducking for cover. Let the dancing bear fight some creature near his size and he will be a wall mount over their fireplace.

Posted by AusTex on December 02, 2010 at 10:06 PM

Boogaard wins due to his size. He still is a liability as a hockey player and as a salary cap hit.

Posted by slapshot2626 on December 03, 2010 at 09:23 AM

Gillies is lucky he is not dead. Go back to the minors pal.

Posted by GM-21st on December 02, 2010 at 10:05 PM

LOLOLOL...Gillies held on for dear LIFE!!! It was like he was being given a twirly ride by his father. Boogie threw more and connected with a couple of rock solid rights!! Boogie with the "W"

Posted by tdepinto on December 02, 2010 at 11:01 PM

If you saw what happened to Gillies the last time these guys fought I think you'd understand why he fought like a girl. He knew he had NO chance and just didn't want his season to end early like the last time Boogaard KHTFO!

Posted by terrystanjohn on December 03, 2010 at 06:22 AM

Gillies was horrible...just heart.

Posted by Leafs2006 on December 02, 2010 at 10:44 PM

Ya better check Gillie's shorts for chunx of shiit....what was he thinking???? Easy win for Boooooooooogard

Posted by QUIGGS22 on December 03, 2010 at 09:23 AM

Boogaard looked like he had a few beers before the game,,,Gillies did a good job not getting KO' Boogaard.

Posted by ETR on December 02, 2010 at 10:42 PM

Big Al, what Gillies flurry? he hardly threw a punch. Boogaard easily in this one.

Posted by wildfan4eva on December 02, 2010 at 10:30 PM

Wow, Boobgaard seems to never get a flush punch in anymore with his fighting style, he used to TKO guys in his early days with the Wild, but in his last couple years in MN, and now with NY, all he seems to do is punch helmet or miss, yawn!

Posted by bruiseyoureye on December 02, 2010 at 11:58 PM

boogaard wins.

Posted by Double Nickels on December 03, 2010 at 11:42 PM

Who opened the gate? That was funny.

Posted by Behn Wilson on December 02, 2010 at 10:38 PM

Although he clearly fought to survive, and not to win... it was strange seeing Gillies genuinely afraid. I still feel that he ultimately underestimated himself, in that, had he actually opened up, it could have been much closer than it eventually was.

Posted by The Peach on December 03, 2010 at 10:51 PM

hilarious, i don't know what to call that. not really a fight, more like a weird sparring session for sasquatch. boogard looks bigger every year, what is he now, 6 foot 10? 300 pounds? damn.

Posted by mr hockey on December 02, 2010 at 10:09 PM

ok all Gillies did was hold on for dear life he's lucky he didn't get knocked outeasy win for Boogard

Posted by tyrone on December 03, 2010 at 11:49 AM

Clumsy Booger with the win. He is not the best. Pull him off balance and you will win. Ask BGL.

Posted by 2001GT on December 04, 2010 at 12:09 AM

Boogy man is a scary dude. Looks like he needs to hit the cardio bike. Powering out at the end

Posted by capsfloors on December 03, 2010 at 07:56 AM

Boogaard. Round two maybe tonight.

Posted by nycbob on December 03, 2010 at 08:08 AM

Boogard still not on best form. Gillies looked clueless

Posted by hughcares on December 03, 2010 at 10:40 AM

Boogaard should be part of some three ring circus , not in the NHL. There should be a prerequisite that you need to be able to skate the length of the ice before you can play in the NHL. This neanderthal is a joke.

Posted by rugby on December 02, 2010 at 10:08 PM

W for Boogaard. Gillies didn't fight to win, he fought to not get hit (can't say I blame him) and it showed. He actually did ok, and seemed to be able to get Boogie off balance a few times but rather than taking advantage of it and swinging, preferred to tie him up. Could have been interesting to see if Gillies chose to trade blows, there were a couple of times when he appeared to have the opportunity to go left to Boogie's right and trade, but again I can understand not wanting to leave himself totally exposed like that to this guy.

Posted by Grimm on December 02, 2010 at 10:16 PM

Versa must have taken a few of boogeys punches, win gillies? Really? Lol gillies hung in there for dear life. Boogey looked sloppy though. Win Boogaard.

Posted by slavv on December 03, 2010 at 07:58 PM

Boogaard once again dominates Gillies. Gillies should be thankful Boogaard couldn't keep his balance or this would've been much worse...

Posted by gkcs7 on December 03, 2010 at 07:49 AM

atta boy gillies, way to show up man!...boogaard brings nothing to the game of hockey.

Posted by HMai802915 on December 04, 2010 at 11:16 AM

Boogaard won this fight. Gillies hung on for dear life!!! Give Gillies credit though.

Posted by bass_n_treble on December 02, 2010 at 10:57 PM

Not a bad fight for Gillies considering he was outmatched and ate a couple big rights early on. Most of his punches came from the front hand jabs. Boogaard is ridiculously strong.

Posted by j sto on December 02, 2010 at 10:28 PM

Boogy gets the win.Gillies gets manhandled. I expected better.

Posted by Dropdaperchatki on December 03, 2010 at 08:49 AM

Moral victory for Gillies--He Survived!

Posted by rule46 on December 03, 2010 at 01:52 PM

Gillies takes the opportunity to see if he can outlast and outsmart the behemoth on the other side. I would have loved to see him pull a quick swap and throw some southpaw bombs as boogaard tired, but it looks like he was too focused on not getting killed.

Posted by ROGAN101 on December 03, 2010 at 01:50 AM

Don't forget Godard, he has dropped Boogard and Macintyre!

Gilles held on and tired out Boogaard because Boogaard threw a bunch. Gilles survived but lost. Win Boogaard . 6

Posted by SCOTTSO on December 03, 2010 at 03:58 AM

much better result for gillies then the last time they met,he got to skate to the box!

Posted by billy jack on December 02, 2010 at 10:57 PM

i dont know why boogie never took gillies helmet off first, but gillies must be happy he didnt, win derek.

Posted by Juha82 on December 03, 2010 at 01:52 AM

Gillies held his own hung in there but got beated CLEARLY by Boogeyman. Okay tilt in my book, Boogaarf was clearly active in this one.

Posted by b.t.wilson on December 03, 2010 at 12:03 AM

you are out of your mind fighting that behemoth. gillies does nothing but survive, which is indeed a victory in itself, so my hats off to him. in the end though, boogaard dominates him. versa, please, a wee bit of integrity if you could. (hoooeeeyyyy just watched their '05 fight. much better scrap, with much worse results for gillies mind you, boogaard had all day to throw that bomb. i agree with others here that have a shred of honesty - i won't knock gillies for this fight, my wife would be writing my obituary if that was me).

Posted by boogards belt on January 06, 2011 at 01:14 AM

Gillies figured out he wasnt in Boogaards league.

Posted by moneybags on December 03, 2010 at 03:16 AM

boogey threw more punches...none were effective...I think the tables will turn if they fight again

Posted by staceyb on December 03, 2010 at 05:34 AM

Gillies gave it a good effort but Boogeyman takes the decision.

Posted by tonydomi1 on December 04, 2010 at 10:21 AM

Gillies hangin on for dear life avoiding that uppercut that KO'd a few years back. Win BoogeyMan. Saw the fight live and Boogeys knuckles looked like hamburger meat in the penalty box. Gillies is lucky his helmet took those shots or it would have been the same outcome as in '05. Boogey is a monster!!!

Posted by CairnsNYI33 on December 02, 2010 at 11:01 PM

this fight reminded me of the recent Jansen/Scott fight. this was a close fight. boogaard was in control but never totally. gillies held his own. looked like boogaard was gassed at the end, flopping around and falling down eventually. wish it went longer. W for the boogeyman, but gillies should get respect for this. rd 2 coming soon...

Posted by bruins rule on December 02, 2010 at 10:27 PM

boogy domination

Posted by reno24 on December 02, 2010 at 11:15 PM

Big Al....This isn't wrestling dumb ass. You don't get points for a take down.

Posted by fernben8 on December 02, 2010 at 10:59 PM

Looked like Gillies really pissed Boogard off with the high stick at the face off. Can't understand all the arm waving by Gillies prior to them engaging...this only telegraphed to Boogie what kind of hold he was intending. I believe Gillies is a natural south paw and surprised he didn't position himself to throw more lefts. Boogard gets the Win but good survival instincts by Gillies. He also shows how strong he is by taking Boogard down to the ice. Great job boys !

Posted by 5fourfighten on December 03, 2010 at 12:11 PM

"it was strange seeing Gillies genuinely afraid." Seemingly dumb statement considering it was Gillies who instigated the fight. Boogaard won the fight, no question, but he had his hands full. Gillies gives 4 inches and 45 lbs away to the Booger and still gave him all he could handle. If Boogaard ever gets into an extended fight, he could be in trouble. He looked as if he needed oxygen after this bout. Hypothetically, if Gillies had Boogaard's size, He would be unbeatable.

Posted by fade2black on December 03, 2010 at 01:12 PM

Well, im with you guys in that Gillies did a fine job avoid damage. He protected well, i thought for sure when they got by the benches he was gonna throw some uppercuts. But that never materialized. ho-hum. Gotta give it to Boogy for bombing away a few times there, dont see that as oft from him as I believe we really should.

Posted by ThogSmash on December 03, 2010 at 01:06 AM

Boogaard Smash!!! Who voted Gillies?? Seriously what fight were you watching?

Posted by smichaels10 on December 04, 2010 at 02:26 AM

Ended much better for Gillies than in their 2005 fight.

Posted by slshbleed on December 02, 2010 at 10:22 PM

The few guys that have beat Boogaard have got him to swing and miss, bend at the waist or gotten him off balance. They get inside and then land on him. Gillies got pretty close to where he wanted to be a few times, but wasn't able to sustain it or land. Boogaard did land a few and Gillies took them well. Gillies did a ok in lopsided loss. Can Gillies improve on this? They likely will have more chances down the road to fight more. For some reason, I am a little disappointed that there weren't more fireworks.

Posted by DARCY T on December 06, 2010 at 09:10 AM

first time ive seen boogaard being more active than his opponent.straight from the start and it think that might have surprised boogaard

Posted by snowcloud on December 03, 2010 at 03:09 PM

Gillies looked like he had a tiger by the tail. He fought Boogaard like a woman would have fought him. Grab the shirt for dear life and hold on and swing.

Posted by lb1631 on December 03, 2010 at 09:41 AM

Gillies ate Boogaards fist numerous times. Give Gillies credit for hanging in. Pretty stupid though. Gillies avoided the Boogey man the rest of the game.

Posted by Jellyczar on December 03, 2010 at 09:28 PM

Boogaard again almost kills Gillies ... but not as bad as their last fight.

Like i said in the macintyre fight, Boogard, Scott and Macintyre need to fight each other eventually, watching them fight all these midgets is a joke.

Posted by dirttbag on April 06, 2011 at 01:08 AM

Good fight for Gillies! I'm surprised he was able to trade with Boogaard, kind of got rag-dolled though.

Posted by fotiu22ko on December 02, 2010 at 10:23 PM

no contest Boo!

Posted by Clark75 on December 05, 2010 at 03:02 PM

Good to see Gillies not shy away from the big guy after being KO'd the last time they fought. Gillies is a gamer. He's no joke.

Posted by skater1 on December 03, 2010 at 06:57 AM

Gillies fared a little better than last time, he stayed conscious.

Posted by skierleeub on December 03, 2010 at 05:12 PM

Boogard is just too big to allow him to start throwing haymakers. Gillies stood no chance.

Posted by averybrawler16 on December 03, 2010 at 01:17 PM

boogard is just rockin all these little dudes he needs more of a challange with the bigger guys close to his size

Boogaard was dominant in this scrap. R.I.P. Boogeyman.

Posted by Bluetiedown44 on December 03, 2010 at 06:15 PM

Much respect for Gillies. Just like Janssen v Scott, MacIntyre v Orr. Big Heart versus big reach.

Posted by EDDUBBS on December 03, 2010 at 02:49 AM

Gilles git TOTALLY OWNED AND TOTALLY EMBARRASSED. He looked like a pussy get his ass kicked and the shit beat out of him by the Boogeyman. It is a shame that Boogaard is playing for the hapless no talent Rangers, who do not deserve him. The gutless Rangers try and buy a reputation, but nobody really associates Boogaard with the just ain't right.

Win for the Boogey man. Props to Gillies for standing up so long although he was definitely out of his league, had a couple good chances but couldn't pull through. Don't see many fights that are more than a tug-fest. Good scrap guys!

Posted by ThrowdownSJ408 on December 02, 2010 at 10:40 PM

Gillies should have done more at the end, but i still consider it his win!

Posted by nypd6476 on December 04, 2010 at 08:30 AM

OMG.Did anybody accyually watch the fight. Hey jackasses its not how many punches you throw that wins a fight its how many land. Every one of Boogaards except for 2 hit Gillies helmet or body. Whatever punches Gilles got to throw about 50% landed. Gillies won this fight hands down. Come on people I thought you were better hockey fans than that. NOT HOW MANY PUNCHES BUT PUNCHES LANDED! I know there are not alt of Islander fans out there but make the right pick.

Posted by BIG AL SECORD on December 02, 2010 at 10:33 PM

I thought Gillies earned the win with his flurry about 3/4 of the way through the fight. He also got the takedown... Gillies in a tight one!!!

Posted by pricey77 on December 03, 2010 at 08:50 PM

Back in action Trev, Good bout. He landed pillows. 5 years of redemption. Appy was yelling at the screen.

Posted by healzgotwheelz on December 03, 2010 at 06:24 PM

Gillies is the man, no fear at all in that guy, takes on that freak, tosses him around like a bitch, lands a few good ones, go gillies!

Posted by Creeway on December 19, 2010 at 12:41 PM

Boogaard is such a fucking joke. He is clumsy and has no balance. I don't know why he even carries a hockey stick let alone wear gloves and a helmet. Just leave them on the bench. What a goofball.

Posted by 29th_Candidate on December 09, 2010 at 11:58 PM

Clear win for the Boogeyman, but I disagree with the folks who say this was "lopsided" or "a domination." It definitely was neither one. There was no damage done to either player, except perhaps to Boogaard's hands from the shots on Gillies' helmet. Gillies, may have gotten out-pointed, but I think he looked a lot better holding his own against Boogaard, than Boogard did in failing to do any damage to Gillies. One expects a gorilla with Boogie's size and reach advantage to pummel a smaller guy like Gillies with a lopsided ratio of damaging long-range punches. All the bigger guy has to do is grab some jersey, stay out of range and pick his shots. Boogaard got more shots in, but he didn't land any damaging bombs. Gillies, on the other hand impressed me with the way he out-muscled and out-wrestled his bigger opponent, particularly towards the end of the tilt. Boogaard may have edged out Gillies in the punches-thrown department, but this was not a very impressive win for him. After this mix, I think Gillies is going to have a lot more confidence the next time these guys square off.

Posted by piney on December 09, 2010 at 09:21 AM

Boo wins a 3. Gillies must have forget the fight on '05

Posted by gmr133 on December 06, 2010 at 11:57 AM

Boogaard is just a waste of a spot on the bench and salary. Gillies is a waste and the biggest clown on the worst circus in the NHL. Both of these guys are minor leaguers, period. Neither can actually play. Oh wait, the Islanders are a minor league team these days, aren't they? Boogaard with a very sloppy win.

Posted by wildguy12 on December 05, 2010 at 04:20 PM

gillies- Lots of pre fight dancing for not throwing many blows.

Posted by tim daddy on December 03, 2010 at 10:29 AM

about what you would expect in this one, gilles made it out alive

Posted by Oil Can Henry on December 02, 2010 at 11:45 PM

Total mismatch,...the only thing saving Gillies from destruction was Boogaard missing so many. Don't bother with a re-match.

Posted by DocGomer on December 03, 2010 at 11:33 PM

Gillies pretty much just hung on for the ride. And I have to disagree Gillies, despite being knocked out, did much more in the last fight with Boogie. He landed a bunch of punches last time and it was a pretty even fight until boogie got him on the button. Gillies did nothing in this fight but head down and hold on.

Posted by pvdrummer2000 on February 21, 2015 at 02:32 AM

Boogaard looked tired, but still controlled the entire fight.

Posted by dropkick25 on December 02, 2010 at 10:54 PM

Boogie with the win.Looks like Gillies had the 05' scrap in least what he remembers.I give anybody credit for fighting Boogard.Win or lose...even an Icelander...easy to say as a spectator he should have opened up more...F that...I'd be happy making it to the box on my own two skates! He's a monster....

Posted by Screaming Buffalo on December 02, 2010 at 10:28 PM

BIG BOMBS by Boogaard but I think he may have been drunk he could barely stay on his feet

Posted by rdemps01 on December 02, 2010 at 10:31 PM

I wonder if Boogaard said something to him like.. You remember how I knocked you out in 2005? And Gillies said no, got pissed and tried to go again... And of course he wouldn't remember, I don't think Gillies woke up for two weeks.

Posted by muskokadangler on December 04, 2010 at 08:20 AM

At least The boogey man didn't knock him out this time!!!! Someone get the BOOGEYMAN!!!!!! :)

Boogey had the better of Gillies there, but Gillies is creeping up my favourites table. Nice to see Gillies getting more ice time under the new mangement :)

Posted by chad420 on December 03, 2010 at 09:59 AM

win Boogeyman...big balls by the The Best Stache rematching him and fighting him Southie...power on power

Posted by trueblue3044 on December 03, 2010 at 02:59 PM

Gillies was not scared of Boogaard. If he was scared they would not have fought. But once he was getting manhandled, he was ducking a dodging but that doesnt make him scared. I have respect for anyone who drops the gloves with the Boogeyman. But Boogey dominated from beginning to end. And for you idiots that think Gillies one because Boogaard fell at the end: Gillies could have picked him up and bodyslammed Boogaard but this is fighting not wrestling. And Boogaard fell on his own from sheer exhaustion.

Posted by TrueBlue26 on December 02, 2010 at 10:38 PM

Gillies is a turd

Posted by jcstokes on December 03, 2010 at 11:58 AM

Boogaard on offense and Gillies on Defense. Give credit for Gillies, he took some shots, but hung in there. Nice tilt- All Boogaard.

Posted by samtheman on December 06, 2010 at 07:07 PM

It looked like Gillies was waiting for Boogy to tire himself out and come on late but that never happened. Dominating win for Boogard.

Posted by kari takko on December 02, 2010 at 11:10 PM

boogaard wins but points to gilles for hanging on to that death ride.

Boogeyman but wow is gillies strong.

Posted by hockeyfan87 on December 03, 2010 at 04:41 PM

Sometimes i wonder where people come up with this stuff. I give Gillies ALOT of credit for even stepping up with the Boogeyman, however he was dominated the whole fight. He barely got anything going at all. He did prove he's got alot of strength though. I give him props but he had no chance. As for all the people who say if Gillies had Boogaards size he would of won, Thats ridiculous. A. he doesn't and B. he doesn't win against Heavyweights his own size. He's not quite a Heavyweight fighter. He's a very solid Middleweight. He would get dropped against the likes of Colton Orr

Posted by Boogeyman2383 on December 03, 2010 at 08:24 AM

Boogaard controlled most of the fight. Landed the best two punches of the fight.

Posted by hockeyherman on December 03, 2010 at 09:22 AM

How does Boogaard have the majority of the votes!?! Yes he landed more punches put they all were shots to the helmet of Gillies or weak body punches after being pushed up against the boards! Gillies actually landed two good punches one of which knocked Boogaard's helmet off! As well Gillies rag dolled Boogaard at the end of the fight which you never see!

Posted by Spazemunky on April 05, 2011 at 02:10 AM

Boog hit nothing but helmet the whole fight .
