How anyone could call a winner out of this is ridiculous DRAW

Posted by lb1631 on October 25, 2010 at 09:45 AM

What are those two douche announcers watching. Thorton jumps Boogard and holds on for his life. That was no fight. Thorton connects with one little slap. If your going to drop your gloves then fight.

Posted by Lucy Brown on October 24, 2010 at 02:17 PM

Thornton hangs on for dear life and you morons give him a win cause he gets 1 punch in after trying to hug boogaard to death. Seriously, the homers on this site are getting out of hand.

Posted by bradyj4 on October 27, 2010 at 02:19 PM

Hold on, get a couple peppering shots in, then hold on! Good strategy by Thorton. He only landed one weak jab with a left. Boogie only hit Thorton in the body. Overall weak fight. Wish the refs let the fight go. I think it could have been a fun one! Draw.

Posted by boldbilly on October 25, 2010 at 07:05 PM

THIS FIGHT WAS A DRAW AND ALL I SAW WAS THORNTON TRYING TO SURVIVE. IN THE REMATCH HE WILL GET HIS ASS KICKED FOR SURE. LET'S HOPE THAT LUCIC IS THERE TO GET IT ALSO.SO MUCH EXCITEMENT FOR THAT ONE LITTLE JAB THAT LANDED.SIZE OF THE FIGHT IN THE DOG WHAT AN IDIOT THAT EDWARDS IS.

Posted by Grimm on October 25, 2010 at 06:24 AM

Draw. Come. How can anyone say Thornton won? They didn't even get going. Thornton did the same thing as Orr. Got in close. Crap. By the way. Somebody please punch Jack Edwards right in the face.

Posted by sulley71 on October 25, 2010 at 12:42 AM

Draw, nothing more. nothing less! Nothing really happened...

Posted by letsdance24 on October 25, 2010 at 04:40 PM

Thorton has big nuts, but he jumped Boogieman to tie him up. Thorton knew better than to square off. Boogieman weak effort here for a much bigger man..

Posted by bruiseyoureye on October 25, 2010 at 12:52 AM

draw.....that was terrible...i expected much better.

Posted by rangers16 on October 23, 2010 at 11:32 PM

nothing going on here, refs need to let these fights go on

Posted by cfriskney on December 01, 2010 at 11:07 PM

Draw, Thornton got a jump on the boogeyman, but was for the most part playing a defensive game, one lucky shot, I'll wait for the rematch to set the record straight.

Posted by Rantavahti on October 28, 2010 at 08:50 AM

Thornton might have been saved by the linesman, why did he break it up?

Posted by esteef on October 24, 2010 at 01:11 PM

Fight didn't really get going. Thornton with 1 punch maybe. Draw.

Posted by Franchise on October 25, 2010 at 08:22 PM

Anyone who gives either a win here are nucking futs. Boogie's lids blinds him most of the dance, Thorton looks to pop him once, and Derek throws body shots. Nothing more than a draw, crap fight.

LOOKED LIKE DANCING WITH STARS....CRAP AT BEST

Posted by bruiser11 on October 24, 2010 at 12:50 AM

The homers will get to this one soon. Thornton held his own but it wasn't a big bout..The homers will think Thornton is a bitch for fighting smart.

Posted by dmac1983 on October 27, 2010 at 10:32 AM

53 pound difference? 265 - 217 = 48. Edwards shows not only that he is an as*hole but that he is also a retard. Nice right by Thornton, but the fight is a draw. Why did the zebras get in there? I don't understand.

Posted by nyrhky21 on October 25, 2010 at 10:58 PM

sedinfan--you think Boogaard is overated as a fighter? Please little boy, the day anybody squares up, takes the bucket off with Boogaard and wins, you let me know pal, until then keep cheering for your big guy, Rick "the fan fighter" Rypien

Posted by bear47 on October 26, 2010 at 01:35 PM

Look close, at around the 42-44 second mark, Boogard gets the right hand body shot going and Thornton just about collapses on the spot. Thats why the linesmen jumped in, they saved Thornton from possible broken ribs or kidney damage. If they had let it go on for another 5-10 seconds, Thornton would have been laying on the ice. But since they didnt, Im calling it a draw.

Posted by eddiec0420 on December 29, 2010 at 01:16 AM

agree with the overrated remark. if anyones 67 265 in the nhl, you shouldnt lose a fight period.

Posted by Big_Goon on October 24, 2010 at 01:32 PM

Thorton hung in there, had the [email protected] to go, but I'm pretty sure he thanks the linesmen after the game. They stepped in right as Boogard was getting ready to jackhammer him into the ice.

Posted by DARCY T on November 02, 2010 at 09:11 AM

how the hell got thornton 50percent of votes???he landed one punch on boogaard's forehead...draw

Posted by huddles on October 24, 2010 at 12:59 PM

dear homers draw, win if you are counting he did not get killed

Posted by 5fourfighten on October 24, 2010 at 02:43 PM

Kudos to Thornton for taking on the bigger man. Thornton with the best punch to Boogaard's face but Boogaard with the body shots. They do count. Draw

Posted by Guilty Dog on October 24, 2010 at 02:27 PM

Thornton wrapped him up real well. Could have gotten ugly if Booger was able to free his tree trunks..Blow to the body buckled Thornton's knees. I don't know why more guys don't go to the body...it's a total ligit strategy...Draw...

Posted by ghjkfdhgfd on October 25, 2010 at 01:57 AM

Thornton got the only good one in

Posted by ThrowdownSJ408 on October 25, 2010 at 02:07 AM

ughhh draw or edge thorn

Posted by behn on defense on October 24, 2010 at 08:47 PM

surprising to me that 12 feet 8 in Booooooooooooooooogaard cannot handle himself in a more forceful manner. loks pretty stiff to me not taking anything away from Thornton.

Posted by Riomouse911 on October 24, 2010 at 04:11 PM

Boobgaard took one on the beak, threw nothing that mattered. TS a 10-9 win.

Posted by tyrone on October 28, 2010 at 12:55 AM

Not sure why the Zebras stepped in but thornton won unexpecedly. Booger is way overrated anyway. Maybe the zebras thought Booger would come on in the end. i don't know. Nobody told me Deano.

Posted by hall5875 on October 24, 2010 at 08:15 PM

being a minnesotan, i once loved and defended boogaard, now that he's somewhere (anywhere) else, i'll freely admit, overrated...but still scary

Posted by Punchdaddy on October 25, 2010 at 10:24 PM

Thornton gets the win by out thinking Boogaard but I'm sure he was happy to see the linesman after Boogie got free of the sweater grab. Could have gotten messy...

Posted by Behn Wilson on October 24, 2010 at 04:33 PM

Taking a page from Orr's playbook, Thornton gets the early jump, and uses it to effectively subdue Boogaard's right. A smart tactic, that allows him to come away with a narrow edge in a ''never really got going'' kind of fight.

Posted by Jellyczar on October 24, 2010 at 07:26 PM

Not a great fight, but edge to THornton.....

Posted by pmarz1 on October 27, 2010 at 09:09 AM

one clean punch by Thornton.....edge to Thornton

Posted by jaybird6401 on October 24, 2010 at 03:55 PM

thorton in this crap bout with one hit. looked like 2 lovers making out to a slow dance song.. weak fight

Posted by staceyb on October 24, 2010 at 06:43 AM

Sather must be thinking in the press box, "I gave a four year contract to Lurch?"

Posted by Towmater on October 24, 2010 at 09:59 PM

I loved when they both got one arm free and Boo was nodding saying "you want this" and Thornton freakin tagged him. Boo looked very ordinary.

Posted by FotiuNystrom on October 24, 2010 at 04:52 PM

Nice win by Thornton...smart technical bout....Very uninspired showings by Boogy so far this season.

Posted by hal29 on October 24, 2010 at 12:41 AM

draw thornton landed the best face punch and boogy witht he body punches.

Posted by bruins rule on October 24, 2010 at 07:59 AM

thornton fought a very smart fight. thornton was already on the ice for a bit and boogaard had just come off the bench.

Posted by BigFistRocco on October 25, 2010 at 04:11 AM

Second fight this week Boogie lost to a smaller man. It looks as if he does not want to fight. He starts out slow and gets pi$$ed at the refs for jumping in. Boogie could learn a thing or two from Rypien. Rypien may be a punk a$$ bitch but he brings everything he has when he drops the gloves. Right now Minnesota looks good getting rid Boogaard.

Posted by pepsigenerate on October 24, 2010 at 01:03 PM

Not much to decide for the win, refs jumped in when thorthon got hurt from the last body shot thrown by Boogaard....would of been awesome to see Boogaard and Chara square off.

Posted by homeland on October 29, 2010 at 09:19 AM

Boogaard is a huge SOB. Props to Thornton on this one. And as a Bruins fan I have to say, I HATE Jack Edwards

Posted by gkcs7 on October 24, 2010 at 12:32 PM

man you gotta like what thornton brings to a team! guys got some...you know whats!... takes on all comers ,for the team,he gives you the perfect role for resident enforcer, and he can play a little bit,...fights like d.langdon!.....nice work thorny! edge thornton.

Posted by fernben8 on October 24, 2010 at 01:13 PM

Thornton gives a seminar on how to neutralize Boogaard. Shows some upper body strength by tying up Boogie's arms... and stayed patient till he found an opening. Impressive and Smart Win for Thornton.

Posted by sedinfan on October 24, 2010 at 01:32 AM

How do you spell Boogaard. OVERRATED

Posted by LucicCrew on March 26, 2011 at 10:46 AM

Shawn Thornton handled the much larger Boogaard very nicely, neutralizing his right, and getting the better of the hits thrown in this fight. Although, it was a close fight, and only borderline clear win for Thornton as opposed to a draw with an edge to Thornton. Regardless, Thornton handled the much larger Boogaard nicely

Posted by omorales on October 24, 2010 at 03:58 PM

Thornton's smart fighter, He gave a couple good ones to the boogeyman

Posted by SgtRock on October 24, 2010 at 12:28 PM

Good job by Thornton here. Tied him up when he needed to and landed when he needed to. Probably good for Thornton the refs stepped in when they did. Boogard is a beast when he starts throwing.

Posted by tattooedkingpin on October 25, 2010 at 06:53 PM

Linesmen got in there too quick. edge Thornton

Posted by Detroit_Caps on October 25, 2010 at 03:23 PM

anytime you you fight Boogard and dont get concussed, loose a pint of blood, or stay in the game its a win. . . This is the price for being the best, if you cant beat someone whos fighting smart and ties you up, its a loss. Really, why would someone whos that tall get full extension?

Posted by millwright1966 on October 24, 2010 at 01:09 PM

slight edge to Thornton because of the punch he delivered to Blowjob.......opps I mean Boogaard

Posted by acd1 on October 24, 2010 at 03:14 PM

Win Thornton

Posted by slavv on October 24, 2010 at 02:43 PM

Thornton had the better shots and got the edge in this one...

Posted by MikeVee on October 24, 2010 at 02:43 PM

Another wasted salary by the Rangers. This was embarrassing for Boog...

Posted by RCSheppy on February 23, 2011 at 06:06 PM

Draw, plain and simple.

Posted by jimmy h on April 12, 2011 at 10:16 PM

thornton pushed boogaard around. no need to ko someone. boogard may be done. he has no skill and has nothing to fall back on. thornton is the top enfourcer in the league because he can play. no need to win all the time. not one tough guy comes close with a skill level like he has. maybe prust but he doesnt go with all the the heavys on a consistent basis. there isnt a guy in the league who has the fight card that thornton has. thats the bottom line. sorry haters.

Posted by SombreMarch on November 13, 2010 at 06:41 PM

Derek Boogaard is worst signing by the Rangers since Wade Redden and this fight is just more evidence. Also the linesmen step in too soon IMO.

Posted by haleymonster138 on November 09, 2010 at 12:06 AM

Thornton with the win. Boogey's "Body Shots" are tired.

Posted by MrMagooo on December 21, 2010 at 12:51 AM

Gotta give the W to Thornton. He was a dwarf to this moron and he sure can fight. Guy is 1/2 a foot taller and 50 lbs bigger and Thornton handled the fight like a pro.

Posted by joeye4 on November 06, 2010 at 09:02 AM

Upset here with Thornton getting the win.

Posted by brianamoro on October 24, 2010 at 12:55 PM

good job by thornton, did his job well, trying to light a fire under his teammates asses by taking on a bigger dude.

Posted by rpw1 on October 25, 2010 at 01:22 PM

Thornton wins here, not so much that he landed more shots. What he did was take on the other teams bigger man, fights him smart and takes the win on points.

Posted by moneybags on October 24, 2010 at 06:53 AM

shawn got the better punch in ,he is a strong mthfk!

Posted by Bruins29 on October 29, 2010 at 11:57 PM

Edge to Thornton against that idiot behemoth. It says a lot about Thornton's fighting skills that he can give up that much size and still get the W.

Posted by DIRTYWATAH on October 24, 2010 at 01:04 PM

Win Thornton. Did exactly what he needed to do during this fight effectivly locking out Boogards right and playing sound defense. Not sure how anyone could tie up a roster spot with this guy. Plays two minutes a night, cant skate, and is a complete liability every time he is on the ice. Why would the Rangers give him all that dough?

Posted by lunchpailAC on November 05, 2010 at 04:26 AM

edge to thornton, but what the F were the linesmen thinking breaking it up that early? that fight wasnt close to done.

Posted by Matt Davis on November 19, 2010 at 02:40 PM

Thorton kicked Boogaard's ass!

Posted by jmac2743 on October 24, 2010 at 10:08 PM

kudos to Thornton... he fought a tree and won

Posted by EDDUBBS on October 24, 2010 at 11:12 PM

Win Boogaard. This is simple. Thorton did not want to "fight". He clutched, grabbed and all that other bullshit. Let's understand something here; that was not fighting. If they "fight" Thorton goes to the hospital. THIS IS NOT FIGHTING- thank God we did not have to endure another Andrew Peters type match. That loser's (sic) style has infected the league. Review the 70's and 80's to determine what a fight is in this water downed league.

Posted by nicky22 on October 24, 2010 at 01:04 PM

body shots at end put thornton in alot of discomfort

Posted by guas99 on October 25, 2010 at 11:09 AM

Thornton holds on for his life, thats not a win, thats a player affraid to get his ass kicked. Its not the MMA. Trade punches don't grapel. If thornton goes toe to toe he lasts about 15 seconds.

Posted by hydr4 on October 24, 2010 at 05:43 PM

Thornton would never have the balls to square off against boogaard. Grab quick, hold on for dear life and call the linesman in after getting a maximum of one shot in

Posted by jabuyer2 on November 11, 2010 at 03:41 PM

This really wasn't a fight and I blame Thornton. Thorton had no intention of letting go of Boogaard or throw any punches. I'm giving the fight to Boogaard because he was willing to go but Thornton simply held on to his arms as a defensive tactic. I'm guessing Thornton was thinking he might want to fight until his self preservation instinct kicked in. "Holy crap! I'm gonna get pummeled" and went for a dance instead

Posted by jnc_927 on October 24, 2010 at 03:30 PM

you guys are nuts, thornton didn't land one punch.. 24 seconds was shoulder pads, 32 was a miss, 35 was changing hands, then gets broken up.. boogie landed the only shots here.. giving thornton the L for chasing him around and then doing nothing but hugging...

Posted by cory411 on October 24, 2010 at 06:20 PM

Okay to all the faggets that gave this one to Thornton.... You fcukn tools don't know shyt..... The refs saved thorntons life there.. Thornton threw that bitch jab and then held on for dear life..... The refs could see into the future and prevented Boogy from ending a mans life on the ice.... Plus Thornton made me mad due to the fact that Boogaard was challenging Chara and Thorntits jumped in.... I wanna see Chara lay a beating... Havent seen a blood bath since Chara / Koci fight.... Dumb like stick Thorntits

Posted by Heyzeus on October 26, 2010 at 03:55 PM

How any douche bag could call that anything but a draw is beyond me..

Posted by ORR TO THE BOX on October 24, 2010 at 04:42 PM

Posted by darkknight9 on October 24, 2010 at 11:17 PM

Stupid linesman.

Posted by Snot-Bubbler on October 24, 2010 at 12:30 PM

If you watch closely, Thorton almost went down from a body shot at the end.......but all the ranger haters just choose not to see it.

Posted by falconfan on October 24, 2010 at 02:07 PM

The body shots Boogaard was dealing Thornton at the end were enough for Thornton, his knees buckled on that last blow, and the linesmen rushed in before he got some broken ribs. Boogard got his arms extended and Thorton was in trouble. Gotta give Tornton props for hanging on tight for so long though.

another one punch and hug attack on boogard. just like orr did. boogard is still not on top form but seems like gets more hugs than granny

Posted by tpberger on November 04, 2010 at 09:56 PM

Very close. Not much on the delivery side.

Posted by anvil on October 27, 2010 at 06:23 AM

Boogaard was getting licked, then Thornton ran out of gas and was getting blasted with body shots. Ref saved Thornton from a whoopin!

Posted by infestedcut on November 20, 2010 at 06:25 PM

Boogard won. If you said Thornton won, then it wasn't totally decisive.

Posted by ilovenyr on October 24, 2010 at 12:50 PM

I think the linesman jumped in a little too quickly in this fight. I wasn't too impressed with Boogard's strategy in this one.

Posted by JustinL611 on October 23, 2010 at 09:41 PM

Was a pretty even bout, Booger was tied up at the start but once he got his right hand free the refs didn't want to have any part of any face re-arranging that he was thinking of doing.

Posted by rexfrommn on October 25, 2010 at 02:08 PM

Now way to call a winner since it didn't end yet. Look out for the second round Thornton.

Posted by JohnNota66 on May 28, 2011 at 02:30 PM

this was awful

Posted by J.R. Abel on January 26, 2014 at 05:02 PM

Lame hug fest. I guess smart on Thornton's part. Had zero interest in exchanging punches. Thanks for wasting my time. Draw and a 1. Unless you're from Boston. Then Thornton knocked Boogard out.

Posted by Alaska Aces Fan on November 02, 2010 at 10:28 PM

weak, 2 body shots = one head shot. Tie crappy fight!

Posted by Big_Fat_Dan on October 24, 2010 at 04:42 PM

Thornton a win for that!!! That wasn't even a fight. DRAW.

Posted by graves09 on October 24, 2010 at 11:55 PM

Neither player did any real damage and the refs jumped in to early . Draw

Posted by trueblue3044 on October 24, 2010 at 03:41 AM

Thornton got boogaard in the face but boogey landed a bunch of body shots. draw but the refs stopped to early.

Posted by Oil Can Henry on October 24, 2010 at 09:28 PM

Just a lotta' grabbing and holding -- linesmen then stepped-in way-too-soon as Boogaard took-over and started throwing.

Posted by dropkick25 on October 24, 2010 at 05:02 PM

No winner here unless you want to give Thornton the edge just for the fact he's much smaller...crap fight...broke up too early.

Posted by goon10 on October 24, 2010 at 02:38 PM

So was there a secret ref conference where they decided from now on any time somebody gets a free hand they're going to jump in? If Boogey jumps somebody, which he won't, I'm fine with it so the other guy doesn't get killed. But Thornton wanted this so let it play out. The same thing happened in the Lucic/Prust dance. Is this the new NHL PG-13?

Posted by TheHammerhead on October 24, 2010 at 12:19 PM

boring fight. come on refs let em go

Posted by chad420 on October 25, 2010 at 12:52 PM

Enjoy the pressbox soon!!! Edge/Draw Thronton Boogard didn't land one shot, open up Boogey and stop being a huge pussy.
