Great fight

Posted by corboy on October 28, 2007 at 04:56 PM

great toe-to-toe fight. I gave it a draw. Nothing better than Thornton throwing rights while Cote threw lefts. Not much defense here. both guys were very active.

Posted by shrk33 on October 29, 2007 at 04:31 AM

one of the best fights so far in 07. Slight edge to Thornton

Posted by nofx8881 on November 08, 2007 at 12:57 AM

Great fight. Absolutely awesome. Sure there have been better, but Cote and Thornton just wailed on each other and neither gave in. I really don't see how anyone could give an edge to either guy. It was a very close fight, both ate some punches and both dished some out. A definite draw. Awesome to watch, though.

Posted by Bloodbank on October 30, 2007 at 06:36 AM

These guys know each other well. Thornton may have gotten a slight edge in blows landed but the fight was so good I have to score it a draw. I usually only vote draw if there really is no fight.

Posted by Godly_goon on October 29, 2007 at 10:24 PM

great fight sadly wasnt a ending to the fight i hate it when linesmen jump in a good fight like that also commentators were horrible acted like it was just an ordinary fight lol made it kinda boring looks better if u crank some alexisonfire and mute the commentators

Posted by Jack Schitt on October 30, 2007 at 10:06 AM

Great fight. Thornton seemed to have Cote stunned, but he came back with some good lefts. No clear winner in a very entertaining bout. Gotta love the pat on the shoulder Thornton gave the kid ... solid draw.

Early candidate for fight of the year.

Posted by slshbleed on October 29, 2007 at 06:05 PM

That may be fight of the year so far.

Posted by crashandbang on October 31, 2007 at 06:39 PM

that's what a hockey fight should be like

Posted by crown74 on October 31, 2007 at 11:44 AM

What a great scrap between these two! Nice to see two guys not grabbing and hugging but instead just throwing punches. I can't give the edge to either guy but this has my vote for one of the best fights of the year so far!

Posted by duffbrainard on June 12, 2014 at 11:10 AM

draw, big punches. Even bigger chins.

Posted by wishbone73 on December 06, 2007 at 06:43 PM

Nice.

Posted by goonery31 on October 29, 2007 at 07:33 PM

Good fight !But not a very smart fight by either, these two both looked like Jeff Odgers.Good fighters are like good dancers anybody can go out there hang on with the left and throw rights from left field.Entertaining though.

Posted by Sublimezx on November 08, 2007 at 11:20 AM

When I watched this live I thought it was Thornton all the way, but upon further review Cote comes back like a warrior! He got him at the end and it completely made up for Thorntons strong start. Great Fight! Draw!!

Posted by letsgoflyers48 on November 26, 2007 at 02:50 PM

they was toe to toe most of the fight one of the better fights all year

Old time FLYERS hockey! And add a win and points too!

Posted by headcharge on October 29, 2007 at 05:46 PM

My vote for Fight of the Year! Great bout. Reminds me of Probert v Domi. Can't call a winner - Draw.

Posted by Bruins29 on October 29, 2007 at 11:23 AM

Great fight...one of the best Bruins fights since PJ Stock was in town. I think this one was a draw though. Both guys just went all out.

Posted by mvigs on October 29, 2007 at 09:48 PM

Wow!!! I tried to count who landed more punches, but it seemed like most of the punches thrown by both guys landed. Solid Draw.

Posted by Formerref on October 29, 2007 at 04:39 PM

Best fight this year by far!!! 2 guys throwing and taking them. Draw. Definite FOTY so far, take a good one to unseat it IMO.

Posted by Brashearfan on October 29, 2007 at 07:27 AM

This should be one of the top 5 fights of the year.

Posted by Teach on October 30, 2007 at 08:39 PM

A boring hugfest!!

Posted by knuckles28 on November 02, 2007 at 11:32 AM

Great fight!! best of 07 so far IMO, I gave it a draw what a beauty!

Posted by BenEagerToFight on October 29, 2007 at 07:36 PM

What a fantastic fight. Early FOTY candidate...will take an EXCELLENT bout to unseat these two. Thornton gets a few early....they trade constant punches....then Cote gets two really good lefts in at the end of the fight. Solid DRAW. No edge or winner here.

Posted by Boom Boom Belak1 on October 31, 2007 at 12:08 PM

what a fight. Draw for me

Posted by stmartian2002 on October 29, 2007 at 12:40 AM

AWESOME FIGHT, I am a huge Philly fan and as much as I want to say Cote won, it was a draw. First half was slight edge to Thornton probably because he looked like he was working harder or maybe because it looked like he was throwing more wildly when he was getting punched in the face all I know the first half was awesome. Then turned out the second half was awesome too! Cote started with the other hand I gave that half to him. In the end unreal fight when you have two deserving winners it equals to a draw. If there is going to be fight that tops this one this year it is going to be a dandy!

Posted by youthattack on October 29, 2007 at 09:25 PM

fight of the year so far. i haven't been impressed with cote at all this season or last, until this fight. hopefully he sticks with this style instead of hugging his opponent to death.

Posted by flyers0607 on October 29, 2007 at 04:50 PM

Great Toe-to-toe fight., Draw.

Posted by Kolini on October 29, 2007 at 12:11 PM

great toe-to-toe fight.. i think that best since P.J. Stock against Peat... i think that they both were som active that it was draw... btw who knows where i can download it ?

Posted by mikebflorida on October 29, 2007 at 09:35 AM

WOW I can't pick a winner out of that. Both were landing punch after punch, were still up at the end, and smiling. Impossible to pick a winner out of that. Draw all the way.

Posted by rayrayaj405 on February 22, 2008 at 12:54 PM

This is the definition of what a hockey fight is. No hugging, no pauses. Full of action. Not many fights can match up to this one

Posted by BStreetBullies on October 29, 2007 at 09:50 AM

FOTY! Most punches I have seen eaten in a fight in a while, awesome fight. Draw.

Posted by averybear on April 07, 2008 at 11:44 PM

Best fight of the year so far!

Posted by davidyak on November 01, 2007 at 07:32 PM

Nice to see that kind of energy and stamina. I'm surprised they ever stopped. Neither wanted to give up. FOTY so far forsure unless your only criteria is how much blood they have to scrape off the ice.

Posted by RPULTZ on March 07, 2008 at 02:42 PM

This was their 1st NHL Fight. They fought 7 times in the AHL: Thorton with the Norfolk Admirals when they're affiliates with Chicago and Cote was with Phantoms

Posted by cotefan92 on March 09, 2008 at 06:28 PM

This was the best fight of the year. Draw

Those are two heavy weights landing bombs!!!! Gave it a draw, two big boys throwing hammers!!

Posted by numba4isnumba1 on November 03, 2007 at 08:58 AM

A complete transformation from last year this team is not taking any “guff” from anyone. Thornton is a power house! Its great to see the power that the bruins are bringing to the table the season and to all the Flyers fans Patrice Bergeron hit will be avenged. just you wait and see! Jones is a coward.

Posted by wylde_buzz on November 04, 2007 at 11:37 AM

Thornton is da winner

Posted by thescotsman1 on November 04, 2007 at 12:20 PM

Almost a draw...the hugging started when Cote got staggered from all the punches he was blocking with his face. He started hugging to protect himself. Gotta give it to Thornton.

Posted by SCOTTSO on October 31, 2007 at 08:57 PM

ROCKEM SOCKEM GREAT FIGHT, WIN FOR THORTON,BUT PROPS TO COTE FOR TAKEN SOME BOMBS AND STILL RETURNING FIRE

Posted by avolante0371 on November 03, 2007 at 02:55 PM

is it me or does thornton remind anyone else of Jay Miller? not very big but just throws 'em.

Posted by Jellyczar on September 08, 2015 at 07:57 PM

Lots of good punches .... thornton wins...but cote was respectable

Posted by stugrimsontime on October 30, 2007 at 02:23 PM

good scrap jones aint getting no suspension if bereron wasent a puss

Posted by cabsf15e on October 29, 2007 at 05:05 AM

Good toe-to-toe slugfest! Thornton landed more punches than Cote did, but they both threw a lot which is how it's supposed to be done! We need to get back to the days of the "Big, Bad Bruins"..they routinely used to kick the crap out of the cheapshot broadstreet bullies...seems some things never change!

Posted by pmarz1 on April 05, 2008 at 12:25 AM

Not even close. Cote got two good shots in mid way thru the fight but after that not much more. Think some of you posters should try and view these fights in slow motion, then maybe you'll have a clue as to what you think you saw. Some of these comments in here are like listening to Jack call the fight, well, not quite that bad but you get my point. Thorton with yet another dominate win.

Posted by dcmac on October 31, 2007 at 09:42 PM

Thornton worked Cote over. Cote seems to have a George Chuvalo type chin.

Posted by Remyy on November 09, 2007 at 08:25 AM

I remember when Boston/Flyers games were brawls, now, not so much. "Right on the logo.." uhh great..

Posted by 215bully on October 28, 2007 at 09:01 PM

what a great fight. very close, but id give the edge to cote from the last two lefts he landed. could go either way tho.

Posted by Adambruinsfan on October 31, 2007 at 03:06 AM

Posted by CaptZ on October 29, 2007 at 08:31 PM

Posted by David Gutierrez on December 28, 2009 at 02:40 PM

Thornton landed a little more than Cote did .Cote was good but the WIN goes to Thornton

Posted by higbee646 on July 22, 2014 at 01:47 PM

Thorton was trying to drive his fist through Cote's skull. Awesome.

Posted by slysi on September 02, 2015 at 06:54 PM

slight edge to THORTON .the ZEBRAS were dying to get in and do their job ( per Gary Betteann ) you could witness the change starting... from a man's game to watch to a TRENDY'S game to watch

Posted by akemler on November 03, 2007 at 04:46 PM

great fight..love the pat on the back by thornton at the end

Posted by mm1160 on March 16, 2008 at 09:58 AM

Thia was not as close as most of you are writing. Thornton landed many more good shots. Cote landed two near the end and that's about it, most of his others were on the helmet or the shoulder. Thornton landed 4-5 right on the button. Cote showed a lot in hanging in there, but this wasn't that close.

Posted by vrodack on October 30, 2007 at 03:12 AM

One of the best fight this season. The W to Thornton.

Posted by TheShaneTrain on October 29, 2007 at 03:54 PM

i wish i could give it to cote, but he got tangled up in the beginning and got caught with three unanswered rights. (ever so slight) edge thornton

Posted by Go Bruins on October 31, 2007 at 08:48 PM

It's great to see the Bruins are improving in all aspects of the game...win to Thornton

Posted by Juha82 on October 30, 2007 at 06:18 AM

Thornton landed more punches here. Narrow win to Thornton in a great toe to toe fight.

Posted by Boogeyman2383 on June 05, 2009 at 10:09 PM

Win Thornton

Posted by miketyson on November 02, 2007 at 09:18 AM

A school ground fight, both fighters throwing punches with one hand and no attempt to box clever. Thanks though guys for a very entertaining fight!! Pity there was not more blood!!!! We love a bit of damage thrown in too.

Posted by goalieds41 on November 10, 2007 at 05:52 PM

announcer said it best rockem sockem robots just curious on how the hell did they both stay standing after that one both earned ther 5 min just for a rest

Posted by Cendro on November 05, 2007 at 11:38 AM

Thornton did a great job at pumping up his team and the home crowd here. Shawn was landing lots of the blows at the beginning when it seemed like Cote was missing.

Posted by LetsGoNJDevils on May 23, 2008 at 04:18 PM

Great fight. Not my favorite but still it was a good fight.

Posted by chris_mcallister on October 29, 2007 at 01:16 PM

Slight win for Thornton in a great FOTY nominee. Both guys deserves props for just dipping their heads and throwing.

Posted by Hutch on October 31, 2007 at 12:51 AM

Great intense fight with both players opening up and just throwing the entire time. Shawn Thornton looked like a bigger version of PJ Stock in this scrap and even did the old PJ wave at the end. Edge/Win Shawn Thornton in a great scrape. Props to Riley Cote for hanging with the more experienced Thornton.

Posted by terrystanjohn on October 29, 2007 at 08:22 AM

Good old time hockey fight, no dancing around and locking he other guy out--just grab ahold and let the punches fly. Best of the early season so far!

Posted by CocoQuaker7 on December 31, 2007 at 04:35 PM

Cote sucks, but this is the best fight I've seen from him. Thornton didn't look like he minded taking Cote's punches one bit.

Posted by forbull on June 16, 2012 at 02:35 AM

Thornton is just an idiot ans shows why the bruins lost their chance at the cup in 2012. You can win games in the regular season by playing like thugs but in the playoffs YOU LOSE IF ALL YOU CAN DO IS FIGHT. HaHa, I'm laughing at the Boston goons!

Posted by troyt on October 30, 2007 at 11:09 AM

old time hockey fight! doesnt matter who won, great fight!!!!

Posted by Nordberg on October 30, 2007 at 02:41 PM

two very good fighters right there, edge to Shawn "Dangles" Thornton

Posted by bobnknoxville on October 29, 2007 at 04:46 PM

Thornton beat him like a rented mule.I have to give credit to Cote for taking the punches that were landing on his face and not going down.He did manage to get a few in himself but not near as many as Thornton.

Posted by PittPens1787 on May 17, 2008 at 11:45 PM

Thornton gets the 'W' in a close one. Both guys came out flying, but Cote deserves some credit for taking a bunch and dishing at the same time.

Posted by DuckHawk on October 28, 2007 at 10:03 PM

great fight, I give the edge to Thornton. People seem to forget, HE IS A LEFTHANDED fighter. He won that fight with his right hand and huge heart. Yes, these 2 do have a history.....great fight tho, but I give edge to Thornton.

Posted by Defmincex13 on October 29, 2007 at 09:40 AM

cote only because Thornton thought he won at the end which giving he draw fight to cote for not being a pompous ass

Posted by j0hnsond4 on October 28, 2007 at 11:31 PM

cote won the fight clearly. he landed more hits and they were painful thornton landed some but also missed alot, then he waved his arms in the air like a little girl after it but he knew he lost he just didnt want to show it Cote won that bout

Posted by DetroitIan on October 30, 2007 at 05:15 PM

Thornton DESTROYED Cote. Cote didnt land one punch. Thornton landed atleast 5 good shots. Shawn Thornton was the clear winner.
