draw. i cant give the win to neil or thornton because i hate both players. they are both punks. BRUINS MIGHT HAVE WON THE GAME. BUT THEY ARE GOING DOWN TO DEFEAT IN THE FIRST ROUND OF THE PLAYOFFS

Posted by kurtenbach on January 09, 2009 at 07:05 AM

Great scrap by two warriors - clearly a draw. Too bad the play by play announcers were such homers. Neil has heart and is always up for a challenge.

Posted by tattooedkingpin on January 09, 2009 at 10:17 AM

Damn Homer announcers. Good fight. Gotta call it a draw.

Posted by Boston USMC on January 09, 2009 at 08:49 AM

Pretty decent fight. I might give a slight edge to Thornton. But this one is to close to call a winner. Draw.

Good Fight

Posted by mikebflorida on January 09, 2009 at 03:07 PM

What a great fight, back and forth, hard punches, I can see that Thornton landed a few more but with guys dead tired at the end but still throwing, I'll go with the draw since I don't give edges. Hard to argue with a Thornton win but draw is fair here. Great fight!

Posted by The Woodsman on January 08, 2009 at 11:32 PM

These two have got a pretty good rivalry going. Draw/Edge Thornton if you want to split hairs. Great fight.

Posted by SirYohans on January 08, 2009 at 10:42 PM

Great fight that was very close. Both guys landed hard punches with both hands. Entertaining Draw.

Posted by youreapylon on January 09, 2009 at 11:55 AM

Thorton with the edge...gonna have a swollen face after this one, Neil just can't be hurt, like punching a dummy bag! Great fight

Posted by luongo01 on January 08, 2009 at 11:13 PM

even fight, the commentater was favoring thornton.lol

Posted by ChrisNilan Poet on January 09, 2009 at 02:10 PM

Great fight, 2 tough guys. familiar with Neil but not so much with Thorton though. Instant respect for him going toe to toe with Neil. Tie

Posted by dannyboy on January 09, 2009 at 09:25 AM

Great tilt...NEIL maybe the poundofor pund toughest in the bigs. Lets hope for MC and Orr Sat. DRAW or slight edge Thorton. Leafs2006...your a fucking tool pal. If it makes you feel better write your hate away son.

Posted by Bruins29 on January 09, 2009 at 09:42 AM

Great fight between two tough customers. I'm calling this one a draw.

Posted by cuptonj on January 09, 2009 at 05:37 PM

Great scrap too close to call .Jack Edwards needs to dial his favoritism down a couple of notches, the fight is the attraction not Jack .

Posted by WBC8 on January 10, 2009 at 11:01 AM

awesome old school draw...22 got tge better shots. but was draw.

Posted by goonsrock on January 10, 2009 at 01:13 AM

Now that was a decent scrap, These two are top of the league for fight style these days. Not a Probert, Kocur fight by any regard, Ahhhhh those were the days!!! I'll give the slight edge to Thornton

Posted by boldbilly on January 09, 2009 at 08:10 AM

Firstly to the IDIOT BRUIN FAN hip checker who gushed about Thornton removing his hemet? It was knocked off he didn't remove it. Very hard to give this to either they both gave it their all......too close. great fight!

Posted by Jordybats99 on February 26, 2016 at 02:13 PM

Really Good fight. Draw.

Posted by stich on January 11, 2009 at 11:21 AM

I've been watching Neil fight since he was in the minors with the Grand Rapids Griffins. He is a brawler to the nines with shoulders square to his opponent and fists flying, very similar to Tie Domi in size, style and toughness.

Posted by bruiseyoureye on January 09, 2009 at 12:12 AM

great fight.........i really enjoyed this one.......nice long scrap.....one of the best all year.....i just never thought one of the best fights all year would include neil.............powerful draw

Posted by murdog55 on January 09, 2009 at 09:27 AM

Neil gets the win here...the announcers were from NESN, clearly mentioning only the shots that Thornton was landing, plus the game was in Boston, so Thornton has the clear edge, but Neil for being on the road is a true warrior, the man is tough.

Posted by blazers76 on January 09, 2009 at 04:53 PM

Great scrap. Both landed lots. Neil throws with both hands and gets the win. Neil actually raped leafs2006, that's where the hatred comes from.

Posted by DARCY T on March 26, 2009 at 06:29 AM

another W for neil in this season

Posted by bigjcc526 on January 09, 2009 at 08:34 PM

Neil seems to be getting better, you got to have a hate for Neil to score this for Thornton. I give Neil the edge in a close decision

Posted by dustinbrown23 on January 09, 2009 at 03:56 AM

well shawn fought really hard but i give this one to chris neil hes like a little ball of muscle but it was a close one

Posted by skell on January 10, 2009 at 03:46 PM

why you put Thornton winner??

Posted by kingpaolo on January 09, 2009 at 12:16 AM

good fight.... both guys land good shots... isn't that how it's suppose to go... man I wish Chris Neil was an Oiler

Posted by sensnation on January 10, 2009 at 09:33 PM

One of Neil's better scraps of the year.....Thornton is tough though......I'll give it to Neil.....

Posted by Leafs2006 on January 09, 2009 at 04:06 PM

Thornton hammers Christine....that big noggin of Christines is sore today! A beating in the scrap...and on the ice....Life is good! Colton Orr is next for Christine on saturday.....LOL...the only thing that could be more exciting than that beating by Thorton , would be to Let Alfrid E Heatley drive the zamboni in between periods! How can they list Neil @ 210 lbs? his big melon grape weighs 160 alone......? LOL powwow!! LOL

Posted by Gunslinger on January 09, 2009 at 05:25 AM

Thornton with the bit of a size advantage but Neil continues with his impressive showings of late by keeping it close. I give it a slight edge to Thornton since his shots seemed to make more solid contact. Wo'nt complain if people give it a draw.

Posted by All Net on April 07, 2009 at 01:33 PM

Thorton landed more and landed the hardest.

Posted by djstrome on January 09, 2009 at 10:45 AM

Good one, nothing better than seeing Neil punched in the face. Thornton with the slight win.

Posted by Juha82 on January 09, 2009 at 05:13 AM

Thornton with the EGDe

Posted by Blade88 on January 09, 2009 at 12:29 AM

Thornton wins.

Posted by JETTA KNIGHT on January 08, 2009 at 10:32 PM

Thornton landed more, but good bout.

Posted by jlmcgui on January 10, 2009 at 11:21 AM

I still can't stand Chris Neil, but he'd be great in Black and Gold!

Posted by moneybags on January 09, 2009 at 02:36 AM

thornton threw more and connected more,he gets the win

Posted by whoppr17 on January 09, 2009 at 06:47 PM

Thornton with the win, gotta give credit to Neil though.. as mush as I dislike him for picking on smaller guys at times, he stepped up. Good scrap.

Posted by rugby on January 09, 2009 at 09:44 AM

Good scrap, even better if you mute the announcers. It's funny how the Neil tide has turned - everyone hated him at the start of the year, and now that he has had some good bouts, people are more accepting. Plain and simple the guy knows how to fight, and is a player you love to hate until he is on your team. He probably got a bit lazy with McGrats there to fight his battles, but has really stepped up this year. As for Thornton, if he was a couple inches taller and a few pounds heavier he would have no problem stepping in with the Godards, BGL, Boogie and other super heavies.

Posted by flyerfighter73 on January 09, 2009 at 06:23 PM

Good fight with Thornton getting the decision. However, the play by play guys that call the Bruins' games are awful and such homers. Thornton actually took some good punches in that scrap but you would never know that. Terrible announcers. Oh by the way Milan Lucic still is a punk and until I see him go with a real fighter than maybe all of us will give him his props

Posted by bruins rule on January 08, 2009 at 09:57 PM

i have to give thornton the win.he connected with the better shots to neil's face.

Posted by BSTnougat on January 08, 2009 at 10:30 PM

solid fight. cant wait till little mike tyson is back in the line-up so he can get his ass kicked

Posted by Wild24 on January 08, 2009 at 10:34 PM

Spirited scrap

Posted by dlbishop2213 on January 08, 2009 at 10:32 PM

love thornton... miss him in anaheim... Win Thornton

Posted by Belak_Norris on January 09, 2009 at 11:50 AM

Slight Edge to Thornton!.. I read Laraque's blog about who he thought was the best fighters in the game! He mentioned Chris Neal as one of the best pound for pound fighters in the game! I agree! But he forgot to mention Thornton. Maybe thats cause Thornton beat the s#it out of Laraque a few years ago with Chicago!

Posted by TheBruins1 on January 08, 2009 at 11:29 PM

Thornton wooped um...got lots in on him.. Great Hockey Fight...

Posted by hipchecker20 on January 09, 2009 at 07:01 AM

As usual a Bruin player takes his helmet off. The opponent doesn't bother.

Posted by bigjohnson on January 09, 2009 at 10:54 AM

Slightest of edges to Thornton. Good, loooong fight by two smaller guys in the heavy weight class.

Posted by HerbRaglan on January 09, 2009 at 10:20 AM

Great fight, Thorton got the best of it.

Posted by DuckHawk on January 08, 2009 at 10:18 PM

good fight by two guys who do it right...these two might be the 2 best hockey playing enforcers going right now....slight edge Thornton, i believe i saw a few more quality shots from his end....2 smart fighters here. Neil still tough as nails though...again, slight win Thornton, but could understand a draw vote here as well.......as always this is IMO,...others are welcome to theirs.

Posted by pmarz1 on January 09, 2009 at 06:37 PM

Tried to find a different feed other than the NESN one for two reasons, NESN producer missed the first few seconds of the fight so I had to listen to Jack the jerk call it, and, I just didnt want to hear him go off on his foolish ranting....over and under....arghhhh!!!!!!!!! Aside from that, one of the better fights I've seen in a while. Thorton gets the nod. TKO213, as for your retarded homer comment, go back if you have the mental capabilities to do so and actually count the punches that landed. It is decidedly in favor of Thorton. Many that agree here certainly are not Bruins fans. I may be a Bruin's fan but I call them as they are, check my posts, and while you're at it, shove your homer comment up your azz..........

Posted by chl37 on January 09, 2009 at 07:50 AM

great fight. thorton with a close but definite win. two real good fighters.

Posted by tristan16 on January 09, 2009 at 10:30 AM

Refrees tend to make things worst when trying to stop a fight prematurely. It just builds tension for teams the next time they meet. Fighters/players for the most part are respectable to each other and will end it themselves. (for the exception of TooToo, Avery, Ruuttu, etc)

Posted by oilersfansylvan on January 08, 2009 at 10:28 PM

What a battle, very close but slight edge to Thorton, but no way you can fault Neil he gave as good as one could expect.....old time hockey still lives ! LOL Love the honesty, I hate that too when ya hate both guys, thats a funny post

Posted by MNBonecrusher on January 09, 2009 at 02:44 PM

Damn good scrap. Maybe a slight edge to Thornton, but if you would have listened to the announcer and closed your eyes you would have thought Thornton KILLED Neil! P.S. What's with Leafs2006? Did he come home and catch Neil giving it to his momma doggystyle or something? What's with all the hatred?

Posted by Bruinsbear on January 09, 2009 at 11:31 AM

wow jack edwards fianally does a good broadcast of a fight. very close match i want to say a draw but i think thornton got the better of the fight with more hits and he ducked 1 or 2 good punches by neil so win thornton

Posted by Maxwerm on January 09, 2009 at 12:09 PM

Really good fight. For all of the sh*t that Neil gets, he sure is one tough customer. Nice to see a real scrap - most of 'em were kinda dull this week. Split decision, Thornton.

Posted by Crooked on January 12, 2009 at 01:45 PM

someone tell me why the ref was blowing his whistle and pointing to the box every 5 or 6 seconds.

Posted by wuzzaman on January 09, 2009 at 04:20 AM

Good battle - great stamina from both men

Posted by baracuda73 on January 10, 2009 at 02:56 AM

Good Toe 2 Toe action. Thorton with the better power punches.

Posted by travist on January 08, 2009 at 11:28 PM

both men landed great hard shots, very close but i gotta give it to Thornton cause i'm a homer...

Posted by followthecode on January 08, 2009 at 11:21 PM

Great fight. Win Thornton.

Posted by Rabid Wombat on January 09, 2009 at 06:51 PM

Great scrap. a lot of heart from both guys. But Thornton clearly lands better punches including a couple that catch neil square on the jaw, and protects himself from a couple of would be haymakers from Neil. I am a Bruins fan, but I try to post fair and honest opinions. I have to give the edge to Thornton on this one.

Posted by sheazo on January 10, 2009 at 10:21 AM

NEIL WAS DOING HIS JOB, TRYING TO GET THE BOYS GOING. THORNTON ANSWERED HIS REQUEST WITH A NICE SHOWING. ANOTHER ENTERTAINING NIGHT IN THE NHL WITH 2 OF THE BETTER FIGHTERS SQUARING OFF WITH EACH OTHER. GOOD FIGHT. WIN THORNTON

Posted by MajorGroove on January 08, 2009 at 10:18 PM

That's a good fight! Wish I could have seen the start. Close but have to give the W to Thornton, looks like he threw more and landed more, but Neil stood his ground and threw right back. Give it an 8.

Posted by jbaktai on January 08, 2009 at 10:52 PM

Thorton with the win, i actually gained a tiny bit of respect for neil after this fight, turns out he can fight decently with a good fighter

Posted by lefthook25 on January 09, 2009 at 05:35 PM

Great fight Thornton is not afraid to take one to give one. I give the edge to him By the way Edwards wasn't as bad in this one.

Posted by akstampede on January 08, 2009 at 11:05 PM

Good job by Neill trying to get something going, which is a tough job for OTT. Spezza/Heatly/Alfred line a combined +/- of -10! Neill is all they have. Thornton with a W, defending the home ice. The more I see of Thornton the more I like, providing a tough veteran presence who can play more than 2 minutes/game and be a stand up teammate. Similar to Strudwick in that regard.

Posted by Goaltender on January 09, 2009 at 06:52 AM

Good fight. Both threw and landed a lot of punches, with Thornton getting the decision.

Posted by Jellyczar on January 09, 2009 at 07:39 AM

Fantastic toe to toe action, heads up, let's trade 'em. Edge Thornton

Posted by Dampland on January 10, 2009 at 10:35 PM

Very good scrap ...slight edge to Thorton

Posted by b.t.wilson on January 10, 2009 at 06:17 PM

Great fight. Thornton with the edge, I guess Neil lost his first fight ever. P.S. where is Chris Neil anyways? I've been checking these reviews about 10 times a day here waiting for his review but nothing yet. Quit making me wait man!

Posted by JCeltic on January 09, 2009 at 10:43 AM

Both guys land great hits. Thornton with the EDGE.

Posted by nighthawk walt on January 08, 2009 at 11:17 PM

Posted by Cherndig on January 09, 2009 at 08:35 PM

I give the fight to Thorton but Neil took some good shots and keeped throwing! Nice bout!

Posted by Chivas Regal on January 09, 2009 at 04:32 AM

Old time slug fest. Two real tough men. No pussy face hiding. Big F to the camera crew for missing making this fight hard to score. Win Thornton.

Posted by booth8822 on January 09, 2009 at 09:06 AM

Thornton definately landed more shots, however Neil stands up to just about everyone. I'd like to see him take on Lucic....I think he is staying away from him???

Posted by patrick jacques on June 02, 2009 at 05:54 PM

two very good figters very close neils a good fighter but thorton was just too good . thorton win

Posted by carchop on February 01, 2012 at 07:58 AM

Neil can't fight without a helmet? Still got lickings so that makes it "extra" embarrassing.

Posted by Clark75 on January 10, 2009 at 02:13 PM

Thornton wins no doubt. Every punch Neil receives, he deserves! blazers76, are you blind? Get your head out of your ass pal.

Posted by joeye4 on January 09, 2009 at 07:02 AM

Great fight. Toe to toe with not backing off. Very tough guys. As to the remark by mcb789, what planet are you on. The Bruins are one of the very best teams in hockey. Take your head out of your shorts and figure what happening in reality.

Posted by Cid on January 08, 2009 at 11:41 PM

In my opinion the top 2 pound for pound fighters in the league. great tilt with the slightest of edges going to Thornton. He threw more and connected with the bigger punches. great battle.

Posted by mink007 on January 09, 2009 at 12:51 PM

Great job boyz....

Posted by Hell of a TILT on January 09, 2009 at 09:18 AM

Both guys were game for this bout......I thought Thornton landed more punches and blocked a few of Neiler's counters......Win Thornton!!

Posted by BLUESFAN18 on January 10, 2009 at 01:54 AM

WOW!! GREAT fight between two always exciting fighters... WOW toe to toe hard punches exchanged... EDGE to Thornton but by a little cuz Neil acted as though those punches didnt even hurt

Posted by ma2uch on January 08, 2009 at 11:41 PM

Was at the game, great fight, Edge to Thorton, he landed a few more shots prior to the coverage.

Posted by Hendo67 on January 08, 2009 at 11:08 PM

Love Thornton, he's a quality fight and a quality guy. Thornton with the decisive win, great fight!

Posted by Oil Can Henry on January 11, 2009 at 10:40 AM

Fairly even fight despite what the announcer tells ya'.

Posted by eadamson on January 11, 2009 at 10:14 PM

Bad announcing. Neil had much more of the early goings and put up a better fight than they announced... just listening, it sounds like Thornton demolished him. Draw, really. Both guys get direct shots in.

Posted by tomales2 on January 09, 2009 at 04:49 PM

Nice fight. That was Edwards, wasn't it? Silence should be golden. Too close for me to call-draw.

Posted by NewMike on January 09, 2009 at 03:31 PM

Great fight by both players. I'm wondering if maybe the NHL head office has instructed the refs to be more actively involved - be it breaking up the fight as guys are running out of gas and there's a greater likelihood someone will lose their balance or attempt to take down his opponent, or perhaps catching a guy on the way down to the ice if he's lost his helmet - in the wake of the Don Sanderson incident. That wouldn't surprise me because in virtually every fight I've ever seen, the ref(s) don't get this close to the action. Just a thought.

Posted by TKO213 on January 08, 2009 at 11:27 PM

Great scrap, solid draw. Anyone giving a win in this fight is a retarded homer.

Posted by illukka on January 09, 2009 at 12:40 AM

nice bout, and this is a draw

Posted by forbull on February 27, 2017 at 06:46 PM

Hate Neil, but BOSTON announcer is dumber, BIt--!!!

Posted by marinermoose38 on January 11, 2009 at 11:27 PM

Good, close fight. I give Neil the slight edge as it seems he landed more early (and overall.)

Posted by Lee77 on January 09, 2009 at 03:37 AM

good fight, Thornton just get's the win..

Posted by NHO3713 on April 02, 2011 at 04:00 AM

Posted by pvdrummer2000 on March 01, 2015 at 02:09 AM

Thornton has owned neil throughout his career... neil is getting better though, he almost pulled out a draw on this one. edge thornton.

Posted by Jwcolour on January 08, 2009 at 10:55 PM

The win is clearly going to Thornton, he landed A LOT of good shots on Neil. As much as I hate him, I have to give Neil props for staying in there. Also, for the 12% that said Neil won the fight; I think it's about time you dismantled the meth lab you are running because something is going to your head.

Posted by preds321 on January 09, 2009 at 01:20 PM

say what you will about Chris Neil, the guy can take a punch. Thornton with the win here though

Posted by piney on December 06, 2009 at 12:33 PM

Posted by Bosoxfan3 on January 11, 2009 at 02:31 AM

good, long stand-em-up fight. slight edge Thornton, but Neil has nothing to be ashamed of.
