Other Penalties: Dan Boyle received a roughing and boarding; Ryan Getzlaf a roughing.
Why are there any votes here other than for Pavelski? He landed at least 6 punches and bloodied Whitney. That's why the voting here has no credibility, too many dumbasses. The visor gave him a nice advantage but it was completely spontaneous and Whitney starts throwing first!
When you hit a guy with everything you have three times and can not drop him, this means you did not win. Also consider the face shield defense, then the fight is a draw at best.
I'd like to fight with a shield too.
this is a dRAW!!
Whitney and Pavelski are both non fighting types, and it looked as if they decided to throw after locking up as both are chattering to each other. It is not like one or the other instigated this. Thus, Pavelski had chances to shed the visor before his decision to fight... And besides that...I have been in this situation before and IF you have a free hand to throw, THEN you have a free hand to shed a visor/helmet, no doubt about it. I give it a draw for the fact that Pavelski wanted to throw with a visor on.
I normally agree with what most think here, but how can anyone say it was a decision? Draw all the way. But....that is my POV, I may not see what everyone else sees.
I don't understand how this is a blowout win for Pavelski in the votes?!?!? This is a draw hands down - Pavelski landed a few good shots, but so did Whitney and the edge that would've gone to Pavelski is lost in the fact that he was wearing a visor through most of the fight... DRAW
this defenitaly a draw, pavelski did a nice job ducking but whitney landed a few aswell, i have to give it a draw it's just way to close for anything else DRAW no question
take off the visor you pussy.
That was a very good fight, I would call it a 7.5 but am going with an 8. A lot of energy, both were really throwing. Pavelski looks like he hurt Whitney with a couple shots but Whitney deserves much credit for still throwing after. Pavelski with the win in this one though.
For such a big guy, Whitney can't fight for sh!t.
Granted Pavelski took off his helmet when he had a chance, but the damage was already done, Whitney was tired, i think it might have been a little more even if that visor came off in the beginning.... edge pavelski...too bad he has to play golf now
I was going to call it a draw, until Pavelski (arguably, a little late)...took off the helmet, and legitimized his previous edge.
LIttle Joe does a pretty good job for his first fight in the NHL. Win Pavelski.
Under all circumstances that visor needs to come off.
Juha82. You are a big moron. Homer fan. This is a complete a$$ kickin as well. You [email protected] you never played the game. Got off this site quear boy.
It was close, but Pavelski was the winner in this one.
Pavelski with the slight edge, good show by both who are usual non combatants. ** side note, it was good to hear that the League suspended that waste of skin Brashear!!!
pavelski gets the win in this fight.
Decent, Pavelski wanted the helmet/visor off, but didn't want Whitney poopin him.
Whitney is a terrible fighter. Every punch he threw missed, what a douche.
GREAT work by Joe Pavelski. Nobody expected for it to go this way. Whitney threw the first punch, Pavelski threw the last. Whitney was bloodied. WIN Pavelski.
Pavelski with the surprise showing. Gotta give him props for ditching the visor in the middle of the fight and continuing to trade afterwards... most of the visor club would just turtle at that point.
Good Scrap By 2 Unlikely Combatants. Gotta Agree With Giving Props For Ditching The Visor Don't See To Many Fairy's Throw Their Visor Off. Edge Pavelski. Good Way To End A Series. Hopefully We See The Fighting Pick Up In The Rest Of The Playoffs
This scrum started with Sharks, Boyle coming in with a high hit- no surprise as they have been headhunting the ducks top line the entire series. Pavelski landed early and hid behind his shield until he thought Whitney was too gassed to throw anymore. Surprise the minute he lost the lid he got caught right on the button. The entire period the Sharks were outplayed so at the end they did the only thing that they could- cheap shots.
nice fight. Pavelski gets the W
socalfan are you as clueless to this fight a you are a fan.whitney never caught pavelski on the BUTTON,pavelski lost the lid when he had the chance to,pavelski got a big edge on this fight...call it a 6..win pavel!!!
the little dude beat up the big dude......easy cakewalk win for pavelski
Ditto with the props for shedding the visor when he got a free hand. There was no square off where he could have done it sooner. Pavelski really hung in there and didn't duck his head like most non-fighters do.
I've watch ryan whitney play for the last few years in Pittsburgh but I don't ever remember him fighting. Looks to me like he lost this one. Problem is pavelski should have taken that visor off sooner. Watching whitney punch that visor made me cringe a little
I think this has to be an upset in anybody's book. Pavelski went nearly 1/2 the season with no penalties, and is usually on the receiving end in roughing situations. That being said, it didn't look like these two were going to go at it until Whitney started throwing punches. I'm glad the visor-haters aren't voting in force today, because Pavelski ditched it at the first possible moment. He caught Whitney with a couple of beauties for the win.
pavelski did land some pretty square shots on whittney that looked like if it were not for pavelski holding the sweater he would have crumbled. In saying that how much could whittney do with pavelski's shield on. I hope it was pavelski that undid the helmet to make it an even fight but it was hard to see. Then the refs stepped in i'm guessing b.c of the blood, but could've become a fight worth an 8, but as it stands only a 6
Pavelski gets the edge in this one. Props for shedding shield as soon as he had a chance. He didn't start this dance but he did "punch the ticket."
Extremely chippy play all game long, culminating in a Pavelski/Whitney fight. Win to Pavelski here though. Unfortunately, 2 wins by Sharks in fights don't lead to a win to force game 7 in the series. Sad day as a bay area sports fan.......but great fights anyway.
Pavelski taking care of buisness!
I have to give this to Pavelski. Whitney hit him first and probably got more then he barganed for. Plus Whintey didn't take his helmet off, it was removed for him by well placed punch. Give another to Joe for the bloody nose and Sharks win the fights too bad they couldn't win the game. I hope the maybe crack some heads a little sooner next year.
wow i didnt expect this.excellen fight and surprisin winner.win pavelski
Pavelski had no chance to take the visor off before he did. Whitney was more than willing to go even though he knew Pavelski had the visor. Win Pavelski.
Great fight nice job losing the visor. Big right on the button fazed Whitney twice.
Way to go Little Joe. Wish you would've taken the helmet off to start but half way thru is good enough. connected on quite a few shots too. WHO KNEW!?!
the clear winner is Pavelski, way to go Sharks.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pavelski kicked his rearend. Looked like they wern't gonna go but then Whitney being a member of the cheapshot artists of anaheim had to throw at a guy that is easily 8 inches shorter and 40lbs lighter than him. Pavelski all the way.
the joe to joe fight game,.... awsome ..... little joe has leadership skills .... i hope if we get rid of marleau little joe gets the big C
joe pavelski took it yea ppl say it wasnt fair because he had the visor but ryan started throwing punches he didnt give him a chance to take it off.
still love this fight lil joe with the win
Really Good Fight. Win to Pavelski.
Strong believer in dropping the lid in a square-off, in fact I think taking it off should be mandatory in a square off, shield or no shield. That said, this was not a square off. Taking it off in the middle cause Pavelski to eat the biggest punch Whitney landed. When the other guy throws first without you having a chance to get it off the rules are different in my eyes. In any case, I do not thick Whitney got what he expected there. Don't think anyone had a clue Pavelski had that in him, certainly no Whitney. He was that busted open as Remenda claimed, but probably a broken nose though. Whitney did keep throwing, which is tough when every solid punch he ate was right on that nose.
Pavelski's first fight. Whitney started swinging at Pavelski and Pavelski kept dodging punches and kept landing all of his in the center of Whitney's face. Pavelski is the clear winner. This video doesn't show the two trails of blood that were coming from Whitney's nose at the end of the fight! Go little Joe!
yaa pavelski for being a kid really kicked this guys ass!!!
JOEY JOEY !
Pavs owned that f*cking ass Whitney.
You Duck fans want to cry about the Sharks head hunting? How about the 6 times a shift? What a joke. Whitney goes to the smallest guy on the ice Little Joe and starts socking him. Next thing you know hes getting socked up with his nose busted. Nice! Visor?? He's 5"11 and beat down a 6"4 guy? What more do you want. Pavelski with the Win! And Thornton!
Joe gave the dude a bloody nose and knocked off helmet LMAO you cant beat that!!!!!
hahaha go Pavs!
win JP...a 5
Cheap shot by Boyle to start the scrum. Pavelski fighting with that helmet glued to his head until he hears the entire country calling him a puss and takes it off when the fight is almost over. Whitney is clearly NOT a fighter and should be a little embarrassed here to get beat down by Pavelski.
This was closer than I think the voting shows.. Pavelski's only really good shot was at the beginning.. and yes, it was a good one. but.... I thought Whitney threw much more after that.. and probably would have done some more damage if the visor was off. edge, Pavelski.
well, he didn't want to fight, and the visor helped, but Joe Pavs did win this one by drawing blood. Consolation prize for failing in the playoffs is holding your own against a much bigger opponent in Ryan Whitney.
Pavs pops Whitney on the nose... Two Americans going at it haha
