Good hit. Mayers is a cocklick for going after a non-fighter. Staal did hang on for life and survive. I can see Orr tapping on Mayers shouder in the near future.

Posted by mr. putzoo on October 17, 2008 at 10:49 PM

Mayers 2 punches and a take down-Staal 0 punches and a sore ass.

Posted by BigJtheCanuck on October 18, 2008 at 11:29 AM

Should have been an instigator.. Mara got kicked out the game before for doing the same stunt as Mayers.. It was a clean hit but Staal was beat

Posted by retrolust on October 18, 2008 at 09:04 AM

for as big as the staals are they are all sissies ... mayers should have gotten an instigator penalty here though, overreacting to a solid, clean check

Posted by haag on October 19, 2008 at 01:21 AM

Beautiful hit from Staal & to whoever said it was interference, you need to start watching hockey. Staal made solid contact to the puck carrier.

Posted by Icedog on October 19, 2008 at 12:30 PM

What a great idea, tough guys just start grabbing non-fighters; then they get an easy check mark in the win column. Mark up a loss for JM when Orr just grabs him and starts throwing them during a routine play next meeting. A needless reaction to a clean hit.

Posted by kingpintoo on October 20, 2008 at 10:37 PM

staal, either fight or stop checking.

Posted by hockeyLOL on January 04, 2009 at 09:25 PM

Lol the punches and the takedown.

Posted by cppalermo on March 16, 2009 at 03:46 PM

I was watching this when it happened Staal is not a fighter. Somebody call the police that boy got mugged.

Posted by Behn Wilson on October 17, 2008 at 11:10 PM

Clean hit, but despite the over-reaction...it's nice to see the new improved version of Tucker stand up for his buds.

Posted by bugeatsdirtx on November 06, 2008 at 12:10 AM

Here is an opposite example of the kaleta - mara fight the game before: Staal had a monster hit with no intent to injure. ok. Mayers sticks up for his teamate. ok. Staal sticks up for himself. Ok.

Posted by Spanky_Jazz on October 18, 2008 at 05:06 AM

No contest win for Mayers. The Staals aren't made to fight. At least he didn't turtle, though.

Posted by Sasky001 on October 18, 2008 at 03:02 PM

Why would anybody stand up for Stajan?

Posted by EddieVile on October 18, 2008 at 07:16 AM

Win for Mayers, but more impressed by the hit from Staal.

Posted by staceyb on October 18, 2008 at 06:02 AM

"Mayers is a tough guy." You got that right, Sam.

Posted by BuffSabs76 on October 18, 2008 at 10:43 AM

Surprised there wasn't an instigator... hopefully it is dying out for fighting sake. Win to Mayers who is way out of Staals league.

Posted by shrk33 on October 18, 2008 at 08:48 PM

Mayers with an easy win

Posted by ItalianHunk21 on October 29, 2008 at 02:10 AM

Way to stick up for your team mate Mayers... but why? It was a good clean hit! Oh, and next time make sure the person is ready to fight you. Mayers won this one, but only because Staal wasn't ready for him, and not to mention really isn't a fighter!

Posted by Boom Boom Belak1 on October 18, 2008 at 01:30 AM

Mayers by a big margin. Good to see someone on the Leafs standing up for a player. lol we don't need Stajan fighting anymore.

Posted by crosscheck52 on April 12, 2009 at 07:40 PM

The reason I don't like the instigator penalty is that they seldom use it when they should, and they do use it when they shouldn't. This would have been a case to call it. Mayer with the win.

Posted by nstars27 on October 18, 2008 at 05:11 PM

Had to give it to Mayers, which is like saying it a win for Voros, which is a very rare statement

Posted by dukeofearle on October 17, 2008 at 10:40 PM

Staal lays out Stajan, Mayers jumps him. starts throwing overhands, then switches to the uppercut. peppering shots in on the youngster clear W for J-MAL

Posted by pontusxman on October 31, 2008 at 12:27 PM

Mayers( a cool guy in public), shouldn't be the tough guy for toronto, none the less Holleweg(human punching bag). Mayers was most effective adn effective as a fighter after he throws big checks like he did early in his career in St.Louis along with Nash and Conroy on a line. Toronto, get a enforcer and stop trying to go with team toughness or emulating the redwings with no true toughguys, grab a goon on waivers and let the grit guys do what they do best, pound europeans.

Posted by mikebflorida on October 18, 2008 at 01:46 PM

Staal can't fight. Looked like a typical instigator and it's great that the refs aren't calling it much, instead they call tripping, interference, and hooking like it's going out of style. I just can't figure the NHL out. Win Mayers but of course he should win.

Posted by BattleAxe13 on October 17, 2008 at 11:14 PM

The Staals don't know how to fight, I like them but I hope they never willingly drop the gloves. Marc didn't have much of a choice here. Win for Jamal.

Posted by PastorJ on October 18, 2008 at 12:05 PM

Ummm....ya, win to Mayers. Staal is lucky he could laugh it off.

Posted by Joe Mack on October 31, 2008 at 07:32 PM

Staal got rocked. Whether you think he wanted to fight or not, he dropped the gloves. My favorite part was Dubi coming in to save Stall. Like Dubinsky would've faired any better... Also - Why do some idiots vote for the guy who didn't get a punch in? 3% of you are fucking stupid.

Posted by Ragtop1day on October 18, 2008 at 08:43 AM

Staal took one for the team....

Posted by Bear72 on October 20, 2008 at 09:15 AM

Myers whipped him

Posted by blackgoldfan on October 18, 2008 at 07:28 PM

Staal with a wicked hit...rangers fans should get used to seeing this i think. However this was an easy "W" for mayers.

Posted by Belak_Norris on February 08, 2009 at 04:13 PM

Mayers Domination!

Posted by The Omen on October 18, 2008 at 05:24 AM

Staal just hanging on for dear life.

Posted by pucks28 on October 20, 2008 at 01:14 PM

Um....Mayers

Posted by tattooedkingpin on October 18, 2008 at 04:37 PM

Domination

Posted by tnaveler on October 18, 2008 at 01:23 PM

Solid hit but interference by Staal. Jamal Mayers whip that boy.

Posted by tylerfennell on November 27, 2008 at 02:08 AM

Staal got owned.

Posted by heatley15 on October 18, 2008 at 08:46 PM

Marc Staal is young, he will learn and become a very nice physical D-man.

Posted by megnlou06 on October 19, 2008 at 02:25 AM

STAAL! you need to go straight to the dressing room and super glue your gloves to you f_in hands! You got spanked, like you stole something!

Posted by dfergin on October 22, 2008 at 12:54 PM

Mayers is a punk...plain and simple. Clean check and he tosses his gloves and jumps Staal. Mayers blows and so do the Leafs.

Posted by gmr133 on October 18, 2008 at 03:54 PM

Nice hit by Staal. Mayers should stick up for his teammates, but not after a solid check that wasn't by a goon, and wasn't really vicious. Why can't we have solid checks anymore?

Posted by kmeyers68 on October 18, 2008 at 05:04 PM

Staal lost by a long shot. He didn't even throw a punch. However, the fight was unnecessary.

Posted by IrishFiveO on October 18, 2008 at 11:17 AM

Staal is not tough, Mayers is.

Posted by chad420 on July 26, 2009 at 03:37 PM

JM clear win...stall not a punch thrown

Posted by TBLightningGuru on October 18, 2008 at 12:19 AM

stupid ass homers

Posted by kocurfan26 on October 19, 2008 at 06:34 AM

Clean check, puss move by mayers going after non-fighter. Wonder how he would have reacted had Orr thrown that hit. Unfortunately for mayers Orr has proven to have a long memory. THis is not over

Posted by mrush99 on February 17, 2009 at 02:11 PM

Staal wins because of the booming hit and than gets blindsided by mayers
