I honestly thought Ruutu did enough with those late shots to earn a draw. If you mute the announcers and just watch the fight, it wasn't the beating they made it sound like throughout the fight. Ruutu ate some good shots but showed a pretty good chin and great patience to hang in there and pick his spots. I know he's a hated guy and not without reason, but to me you have to respect that kind of performance from Ruutu in what should have been a mismatch.

Posted by slshbleed on February 29, 2008 at 08:03 AM

Lucic wins this one, but the Boston TV guys are tools. People also complain about Ruutu as a dirty play who will not fighting heavy weights. Ruutu really is a middle weight, but he fought a heavy here and did ok in a loss. You can see how strong Ruutu is he was able to tie up a bigger guy and put himself in a position to win a fight. There have been heavies that have fought Lucic and not done as well as Ruutu did in this one.

Posted by BigBadBruins68 on March 27, 2013 at 12:13 AM

Ruutu goes after Looch cause he had a broken nose, never lands a serious shot to the face, and gets beat. And for those who say he pussed out against Laraque, let it go. Lucic is NOT an enforcer, he plays on the top line for God's sake. He ignored Laraque and focused on playing hockey.

Posted by railoperator on February 29, 2008 at 03:54 PM

Typical nhl fight for these days will somebody bring Joe Kocur or Bob Probert out of retirement.Lucic is a tough kid extremely strong I think the fight would of turned out differently if it werent for the nose (even though thats no excuse). As for Ruutu hes as strong as an ox and about as smart as one too .Being a pens fan for almost 20 years its depressing to see these new guys fighting but then again we have the king of nhl wrestling to protect sid BGL is no enforcer you have to throw punches to be considered that.

Posted by butchie23 on February 29, 2008 at 10:07 AM

If Lucic is soo tough why wouldn't he go with BGL when he had the chance. Ruutu did what he had to Lucic was runnning around and throwing big hits on key players, but wouldn't take anyone on.

Posted by rags1965 on February 29, 2008 at 11:48 AM

I give the edge to LUCIC is a close one. Did anyone notice LUCIC turning down the invitation from Big George while pointing to his visor. Lost a little respect for LUCIC for willingless to dancde with a lesser opponent.

Posted by Tazza on February 29, 2008 at 06:11 AM

Not really good hits at all. Ruutu hits couple at the end but otherwise Lucic dominates, but doesn't really deliver. Draw in my opinion anyway (as seen through my blue-white glasses ;)

Posted by olska on February 29, 2008 at 02:52 AM

Lucic does a great job holding Ruutu's right hand, but not close so clear victory to Lucic that the announcer says, i give this a draw.

Posted by seanw on March 01, 2008 at 02:24 PM

lucic was lucky the stripes stopped it. ruutu was goin 4 his nose with 1 perfect punch

Posted by Guinness59 on February 29, 2008 at 08:59 AM

Wh didn't Lucic go with BGL earlier in the game?

Posted by siltmipa on February 29, 2008 at 11:56 PM

Is there many frends of the tough guy Lucic. How he can be so real winner even thought it was a clear draw. I donĀ“t always understund !!!

Posted by hockey doc on February 29, 2008 at 07:47 AM

Little Ruutu beat up Lucic.

Posted by dromano13 on March 02, 2008 at 06:11 PM

Ruutu is washed up.

Posted by Jake98 on February 29, 2008 at 02:44 AM

Hug fest...no damage done

Posted by upyours on February 29, 2008 at 03:13 PM

Some of you beanpotters are hysterical. "Lucic didn't duck Laraque...he just wouldn't fight him". Broken nose or not...he was running around hitting the Pens...then did his best running away from Big Georges. Then he tangles with Ruutu and leaves the ice acting like a champ. What a punk.

Posted by TheBomb413 on February 29, 2008 at 01:09 PM

To me it looked like just as Ruutu began to take over Lucic was tagged hard, ducked his head, and gave up. I call it a forfeit in a fight that Lucic was dominant at the start. If he was tired he should have tried to just wrestle Ruutu down and the fight would have been his.

Posted by Dynastopher on March 01, 2008 at 10:30 AM

Why was Lucic and the Boston fans so happy that he won a marginally close bout with Ruuttu. Oh i get it... Lucic is the new poster boy for the Big Bad bruins, and the fans have an unrealistic hope that this guy is the new complete player... just like Orr and Neeley; come on guys... you look at the slow-motion replay and see Lucic land 1 or 2 nice shots on Ruuttu and then think the whole fight went that way... To me, I saw a long holding match, with those same 2 punches being the only decent ones. I'm neither a Lucic or Ruuttu fan, but I'm not going to just jump on a bandwagon of synthetic hype if I don't see the results for myself.

Posted by jormajorma on February 29, 2008 at 02:22 PM

lucic won but for his relief linesmen came in, ruutu was just getting started

Posted by Scott4 on February 29, 2008 at 03:55 AM

Ruutu is a joke!He didn't throw a punch. He can't fight...just look on his fight list, you'll see names of HW like Zholtoks,Kalinin,Gelinas,Holmqvist,Daley....he can't dance with same size guys. Lucic win, because he was the one who's trying throw a punches. FU*K RUUTU!!!!!!

Posted by Leafs2006 on March 02, 2008 at 03:01 PM

Win Lucic, these Boston announcers are pathetic, so " pro bruin" hard to listen to. Dale Arnold was the best, i dunno why he stepped down.

Posted by Helmut on February 29, 2008 at 10:11 AM

To answer Guiness59's question: Why didn't Lucic go with BGL? 1. Lucic can actually play hockey and is not just a giant goon. He's been making good hockey plays and been involved in the scoring. If I was the coach I wouldn't want him to fight Big George the hack either. 2. He has been made to wear the visor and told not to fight so the nose can heal and not affect his breathing. 3. Lucic didn't pick his spot, Ruutu initiated and gave him no chance. He'd have gone with BGL I'm sure if the same thing happened. I'm tired of BGL's reign. If I were a GM I'd bring up one steroid filled madman after another until someone smashed BGL's head in, but that's why I'm not a GM among other things.

Posted by bufordjustice on February 29, 2008 at 08:22 AM

Don't have much respect for Lucic. He starts a fight with a much smaller Ruutu, then parades off the ice like he's Rocky. Meanwhile earlier in the game Laraque tried to go with him and Lucic wanted nothing to do with him whatsoever.

Posted by Ragtop1day on February 29, 2008 at 03:04 AM

Ruutu initiated the fight, Lucic controlled it...the kid is good

Posted by Big Violence on February 29, 2008 at 10:30 PM

win Lucic but props to Ruutu for stepping up to a much bigger and stronger man. This should shut up all the people that say Ruutu only fights guys he knows he can beat.

Posted by peacemaker on March 01, 2008 at 10:32 AM

Those announcers should be embarassed. I used to call fights like that (one sided) when I was 7 years old. Clear win for Lucic, but you would think Ruutu was in a coma post fight.

Posted by shack on February 29, 2008 at 12:54 PM

I vote this one for Lucic, but I raise my hat for Ruutu. Jarkko controlled the fight pretty well he had alot more bigger opponent but Ruutu was tactically smart and strong. Altough Lucic did land the big ones mainly because of the size difference and his reach. Ruutu was smart not to go toe to toe. Good fight I say, win for Lucic but points for Ruutu.

Posted by datafortress on February 29, 2008 at 03:40 AM

Lucic with the obvious win

Posted by 1975 on March 01, 2008 at 01:31 AM

and by the way, the best punch of the fight was after those body shots by Lucic - when he throws overhand on Ruutu with the right. That was pure power and hit nothing but grill.

Posted by jjhawksjj on February 29, 2008 at 10:15 AM

I like the way Ruutu scraps. He's patient and picks his spots. Lucic did more throwing and landed a number of shots. The body punches are hilarious. I could have sworn I heard Mickey yelling "the body, the body, the body". At the end of the scrap Ruutu landed a couple that were definitely going to turn the tide but in today's NHL, the ref's aren't going to let it get that far. I think if they had stood back, you would have seen Ruutu clean up. When it ended though, I'd have to give Lucic the nod. Win - Lucic

Posted by dukeofearle on March 02, 2008 at 05:21 PM

Ruutu tries to pick on the wrong kid at the sandbox...and pays for it.

Posted by trpaulson on March 01, 2008 at 07:34 PM

Lucic landed the bigger bombs. All this with a busted snoot. The Ruutus really are toughest when they're hitting someone who ain't looking.

Posted by OriginalSix on March 01, 2008 at 03:38 PM

Great right hand by Milan!

Posted by Air Dump on February 29, 2008 at 03:47 PM

Lucic clearly the winner, looked very tired near the end. Ruutu should join the Finnish grappling team, he sure tied up Lucic

Posted by NedBraden24 on February 29, 2008 at 10:19 PM

Ruutu is a complete finnish puke. Looch has a broken beek and declined big George earlier(it'll happen) and had to spend a minute and a half rag dollin this punk. If he was 100% this would have been EMT time for RuPaul. I just hope this nose won't turn Lucic into Koci. The kid has the skills to play a regular shift which is more than I can say for most tough guys. Go B's!

Posted by Coach Jay on February 29, 2008 at 12:36 PM

I'm a Pens homer, but Ruutu got beat. Lucic just out out-thought him and out fought him. A "strategic" fight.

Posted by doubleup87 on February 29, 2008 at 04:11 AM

ruutu looked like he has a box lucic dominated would of been better if he didn't wiff as much

Posted by BH40 on February 29, 2008 at 02:18 PM

Aces your a douche bag Ruutu got his ass kicked and you know it, but yet since your a fan you have to say a bunch of things that aren't true. Just admit he lost you asshole

Posted by gish88 on February 29, 2008 at 02:33 PM

Lucic won the fight....and big deal if he didnt fight Laraque. Laraque didnt come up to him and basically force him to fight like Ruutu, who clearly instigated the entire thing.

Posted by Skulltrain on February 29, 2008 at 09:13 PM

Well done Lucic, protected his nose like a pro. I'm kinda disappointed that Ruutu didn't pull his arm under his jersey to get out of the clinch, if he had I think he would have won this fight hands down. But it is of course easy to be a couch referee. Decision Lucic

Posted by Lietrum on March 01, 2008 at 04:54 PM

Decision Lucic.

Woohooo! Love seeing Ruutuu getting a beatdown from Lucic! LOVED IT!

Posted by rocket on February 29, 2008 at 06:44 PM

WIn Lucic, but didn't really impress against a smaller opponent. The B's announcers are just awful. They splooge over every punch Lucic threw, even the weak ones.

Posted by Big_Goon on February 29, 2008 at 02:14 PM

Win Lucic.

Posted by mm1160 on February 29, 2008 at 08:05 AM

I am a Bruin fan, but Jack Edwards sucked at ESPN and he is worse as a hockey announcer. Lucic looked as good as he has in a while, but Edwards needs to calm down. I never thought I'd say this, but he's worse than the Sabres announcer, and that's real bad.

Posted by dmckearn on February 29, 2008 at 01:50 PM

I watched this one live on TV. Lucic was out on a shift for 1 minute 50 seconds. Typical of the vet Ruutu to go after a guy who's been on the ice for that long. Easy, clear win for the rook. To battleaxe13 and aces50, Lucic was on the ice for almost 2 minutes before he fought Ruutu for another minute-thirty or so, and he still won the fight. I don't want to hear anything about Lucic bailing out since the fight was so long. Ruutu only started when he saw the linesmen coming in. And yes, the Boston TV guys, especially the play-by-play guy, are HUGE tools.

Posted by Screaming Buffalo on February 29, 2008 at 03:45 AM

Lucic controlled this fight. Ruutu was just trying to hold Lucic the whole time to avoid getting tagged.

Posted by billy jack on March 02, 2008 at 08:38 PM

even a tired lucic beat up the bigger ruttu, for you calling lucic a pussy for not fighting the 270 pound steroid case called BGL,give it a rest, thats two differant weight classes by 50 pounds, just because goerge is listen at 260,lowe said he didnt play big goerge in the playoffs because he was 275.

Posted by DB24MJ12 on February 29, 2008 at 03:40 PM

Lucic picked Ruutu apart in this one. I dont understand how anyone is giving Lucic a hard time for fighting Ruutu, because Ruutu started the whole thing. entertaining fight. great job by Milan.

Posted by HeyImIrish on February 29, 2008 at 09:42 AM

First gotta give credit for Ruutu going with a much bigger guy and atleast holding his own. But Lucic did completely dominate this fight. Clear win for Lucic

Posted by Nightmare on February 29, 2008 at 11:24 AM

Lucic puts on a clinic piling up the points. Ruutu just didn't mount anything offensively.

Posted by moneybags on February 29, 2008 at 04:41 AM

the kid won again.ruutu wanted the fight and got more than he bargained for.

Posted by mikeydgtr on February 29, 2008 at 12:06 PM

Aces is an IBICILE. Looch easy on this one, and Jack Edwards is pretty much a moron !!! Andy brickley is great, Thats why he gets the national broadcasts too. So why was BGL lookin to fight the kid when BGL knows Looch has got a broken nose?????

Posted by bricks420 on February 29, 2008 at 05:19 PM

I like all the keyboard warriors on here complaining about how he passed on Laraque. Would YOU fight BGL if you just had your nose broke a week or two ago? Would you fight him to begin with? Hah! The difference is, Laraque was man about it and gave Lucic the option. Much respect. Ruutu came in with that grapplecrap and wouldn't let him escape. Typical. Well, you got what you asked for, buddy!

Posted by hangwire on March 01, 2008 at 03:01 AM

Pretty good fight and a good match, lucic with the win.

Posted by adamwas713 on February 29, 2008 at 11:39 AM

Ruutuu comes looking for a fight and finds Lucic at the end of his shift. Long, entertaining scrap with both landing solid shots, but Lucic got the better of Jarko. Good to see Lucic let loose despite the broken nose. You can tell Lucic is being told not to fight so that his nose can heal, but he looked pretty good in this one. Cant believe the kid is 19. Win Lucic.

Posted by cashman rules on February 29, 2008 at 05:20 PM

Lucic schools the fin at the end of his shift.

Posted by J.R. Abel on March 01, 2008 at 09:36 AM

Pretty good scrap. As much as I love Roots, gotta give it to Lucic, even tho he pussed out against Laraque. But so did Thorton in this game. One would think with an xtra 20-25 lbs and 2-3 inches Milan would have KO'd him, but Roots held his own. Ruutu couldn't get his right free or this would have been a different fight. Pens were REALLY flat that night and Lucic was doiong a little running around. ( I believe 5-1 Boston at this point) Ruutu was just sending a message. Pens aren't going to lay down. Possible playoff rematch.

Posted by fridge rules on March 02, 2008 at 06:02 PM

nice fight! funny announcers :D

Posted by WBC8 on March 01, 2008 at 12:10 PM

You guys need to stop hating on Looch. I swear to God, when his nose heals I hope to hell Ruutu drops them again and Looch can go ape shit on him. He's been fighting different, protecting his nose and not letting them fly...When he does, i hope Ruutu has the sack to try that again, but he won't. And BGL's time will come. Prolly be a 5 sec tilt where BGL puills him to the ice. You draw/Ruutu guys are a bunch of cherries. Pick up some tampons when you go food shopping next time...

Posted by jrbz88 on February 29, 2008 at 10:51 AM

Ruutu was looking for a partner for a good amount of time before Lucic obliged. For a guy who was looking to take on everybody I thought Ruutu got worked pretty good.

Posted by Beathole on February 29, 2008 at 03:13 PM

This announcer should be a boxing announcer. He is more excited about a fight then a goal. Lucic owned.

Posted by ronobre on February 29, 2008 at 10:53 AM

Second comment. At the very end of the clip, they show a slow motion right hand that connects and if you look in the background, you'll see Sturm and Murray yell out like "YEAHHH!". Great stuff.

Posted by Wensinkfan on February 29, 2008 at 11:11 PM

Lucic got this one. The body blows didn't seem to matter but the fists that connected were very effective. I would have loved to have seen Ruutu in a blow for blow bout with Lucic without all the grabbing and swing around. It looked to me as if Lucic didn't want to fight that night. He backed down from BGL and tried to avoid even Ruutu. It may or may not have been coaches orders but this is not Lewis, its Julien behind the bench. The broken nose excuse never washed with me. I've seen the best fight and win hurt or injured. I hope Lucic remembers who wore his No 17 at one time. I'll give him some slack once since he's only 19. Plus even if he didn't want to fight he still won.

Posted by Lucy Brown on March 01, 2008 at 12:17 PM

Pretty good bout, the homer announcer made it sound a lot better than it was. Better than the way Sam Rosen calls a fight though. Anyway, Lucic with a clear win. Some nice shots landed but I dont think Ruutu was ever really hurt. How did anybody vote win for Ruutu or a draw. Homers I guess.

Posted by jim_young on February 29, 2008 at 09:12 AM

Who are the dumba$$es that called it a draw and gave it to Ruutu? WTFE. . .

Posted by floater1 on February 29, 2008 at 08:49 AM

First, I agree about Jack Edwards. Bring back Dale Arnold, and has anybody told Edwards about teeth whitening. The fight was dominated by Lucic, Ruutu went looking and didn't like what he found. bufordjustice has no clue what he is talking about. Lucic did not initiate but did dominate.

Posted by jackmcc100 on February 29, 2008 at 10:54 AM

The kid can throw, he is going to be a force in the next few years

Posted by Bonecrusher1976 on February 29, 2008 at 05:33 PM

People write crap all the way here. Lucic does not have to prove anything. He did already. He's not scared of anyone and he fought big names the whole season. He chuckled once, alright. That does not make him a coward, though. Ruutu's a tough customer as well and he got some heavy blows to the head from Lucic here. Win Milan.

Posted by Sasky001 on February 29, 2008 at 09:16 PM

Poopoo finally fight someone his own size and got owned. He threw a few jersey jabs at the end, but was garbage through the whole fight.

Posted by redwingrocket on February 29, 2008 at 08:11 PM

You puss Ruutu. Take your helmet off and fight like a man. Stop huggin. I liked the boxing body shots by Lucic. He is becoming a name brade fighter.

Posted by BlacknGoldDevil on February 29, 2008 at 11:51 AM

Lucic is going to be the next Neely, he is not just a fighter like BGL and I applaud him saying no to the earlier invite by Laraque(Thornton said no also) because it wasn't the time. I like this kid. good win after a long shift.

Posted by Boogeyman2383 on February 29, 2008 at 05:38 PM

Body Shot! Body Shot! Body Shot!

Posted by BruinsFan8 on March 09, 2008 at 11:02 AM

i dont know what more you lucic bashers want from the kid. 19 years old and 12 fights in the nhl. and hes won about 9 of them decisively. some of u cry when he wouldnt go at it with big georges. he has a 2ce broken nose and is STILL fighting guys. maybe you pens fans should notice how george backs down from the almighty Z anytime chara wants to throw down. lucic is a beast and will continue to pummel wannabe tough guys.......just like jarkko ruutu. lucic with the win AGAIN..................broken nose and all

Posted by Joe Mack on February 29, 2008 at 05:51 PM

i give lucic the win even though ruutu is smaller. ruutu wanted to go, plain and simple. its funny though, when laraque wanted to drop the gloves, lucic wasnt so easy to convince. i see a either a rematch to this fight or lucic just getting his ass handed to him by BGL the next time these teams meet.

Posted by puttin on foil on March 04, 2008 at 09:44 AM

see what happens to Ruutu when he fights somebody that weighs over 180 lbs.(Downie, Tucker). Ruutu got schooled.

Posted by Art24 on March 01, 2008 at 02:01 AM

Lucic had the edge there. He's a great puncher. Credit to Ruutu though, that fight was closer than people are calling it - definately not one way traffic.

Posted by qmchugh on March 02, 2008 at 10:03 AM

Enough with the excuses for Ruutu about being smaller than Lucic, he wanted the fight, and he took a beating.

Posted by powerball on March 02, 2008 at 08:18 AM

you cannot physically hurt Ruutu, you can only hurt his feelings. Lucic did not want any part of Laraque earlier in the game.

Posted by gaudrault19 on February 29, 2008 at 10:35 AM

Lucic has a busted nose and the bruins have asked him not to fight if unnecessary until he fully heals. He clearly was not looking to fight last night. He didnt "duck" BGL. He just did not fight him. He also wouldnt have fought Ruutu if he had a choice. Ruutu hit him 2 times then grabbed him. . To everyone who chirps Lucic about not taking on BGL. Give him a little time. Hes not trying to be the champ. Give him some credit, at 19 years old hes earned some respect. 12 fights and it would be more if not for the nose. and He does fight heavyweights and holds his own. Give him a chance to mature a little and im sure he will be taking on the BGL and Brash's eventually

Posted by MNBonecrusher on March 13, 2008 at 11:15 PM

Wow, he made Ruutu look like a complete PUNK!!!

Posted by Blackhawk23 on February 29, 2008 at 11:49 PM

That was a great go. Ruutu is the cheapest bastard out there but this year he has been willing to back it up and although he lost this battle, his scrapes this year have been pretty good. Lucic is awsome and I think he would have dropped him with BLG if his nose hadn't been broken earlier this year. He is a guy who may end up being an all-star and a top 10-15 fighter in the NHL.

Posted by jlmcgui on February 29, 2008 at 10:44 PM

Lucic tried to not-fight, it was nearing the end of the game. Lucic wanted to protect his nose (not broken in fight, but crashing into boards). Milan will give Laroque a go soon; he usually doesn't back down and you could see he gave Ruutu the chance to reconsider ... which he didn't take.

Posted by lipe_red_wings on February 29, 2008 at 03:28 PM

Lucic is a boxer or he is a NHL player??? Great fight for lucic.

Posted by MMA_FCF on February 29, 2008 at 11:48 AM

This 19 year old has a lot of guts fighting with a twice broken beak (having done it, it can sting when you take a clean shot). He declined to go with Laraque earlier (as did Thornton - but Lucic's excuse is a bit more palatable), but due to the nose and wearing a shield, once again, a good idea probably. I'd say Lucic more than held his own and landed the bigger shots but Ruutu didn't back down and landed a few himself. Jack Edwards is WAY too enthusiastic as an announcer (and I'm a B's fan) but Andy Brickley is pretty much bi-partisan with less caffeine in the bloodstream. This kid could become a beast but seems to have a bit of talent behind him as well. Can't wait to see where his game is a few years down the road!

Posted by RPULTZ on February 29, 2008 at 08:39 PM

Lucic not just went for the head like others but must of heard from his seconds who said "Think body, body!

Posted by TheLooch on February 29, 2008 at 06:59 PM

You have to be kidding me, right? How can you call this fight a draw? are you mental?. Seriously, Looch worked him over. Lucic was at the end of his shift and was gassed as hell, he didnt pick the fight with Jarkko, Jarkko picked it with him, Lucic wont back down. Jarkko got in his face, and Looch landed shots on his, win Lucic, and an easy one. As for Laraque vs Lucic, i'd love to see that...they were talking at the draw and Looch was the smarter guy, he's not just a scrapper, he's a point getter as well, and is developing into a great hockey player. Lucic wins, and wins Decisivly.

Posted by BehnWilson3 on March 01, 2008 at 02:38 AM

Posted by chris_mcallister on March 02, 2008 at 11:01 AM

Easy, dominating win for Lucic. Ruutu only wanted to fight him because of his nose. Ruutu tried to hold him off and tire him out, but must not have realized that Lucic is a conditioning freak.

Posted by pooleyacht on February 29, 2008 at 10:08 AM

Lucic is fighting with a broken nose, at the end of his shift. Jarko Ruutu is the type of player who tries to get under people's skin. I'm glad Lucic got the chance to wallop him a few times.

Posted by The Peach on March 01, 2008 at 09:09 PM

great bout. love the body shots by lucic, a real fighter there. kid is all heart. so is ruutu. they wore themselves out good. lucic has to protect his beak, which he did, but at the same time needs to deliver heavy shots, which he did. ruutu wanted out after 30 seconds. not to take anything away from ruutu, he's a character guy and will hang in there and take his shots. GREAT fight. HOWEVER, somebody please jaw-jack that horrid announcer. worse than a high school announcer on cable access.

Posted by Eradicator on February 29, 2008 at 04:55 PM

What a dominate bout by Milan Lucic. Hope Ruutu learned not to mess with Lucic.

Posted by Sukoshi84 on February 29, 2008 at 03:26 PM

You assholes that voted Draw or win Ruutu are fukin blind and retarded!!!! this site is starting to go downhill fast because of idiots like you who dont know sh!t about hockey fights. Ruutu made Lucic fight, Lucic was given Orders not to fight......thats why he didnt fight that Chode BGL, Domination by Lucic

Posted by Thunderbolt on February 29, 2008 at 10:10 AM

Ruutu did iniciate the fight, but nothing wrong with the hit. Lucic, in my humble opinion, could be the heir apperent to Laraque. Secondly, Boston impresses me more than any other team the Penguins have played this year.

Posted by BooSanta on March 01, 2008 at 05:38 PM

These Boston Homer announcers are friggin hilarious. Wouldn't be hilarious if they called the action in an adult film UUOOOOOOGH A HARD RIGHT OVER THE TOP! UUOOOOGH ANOTHER HOOK CONNECTS The Commentating alone is worth the price (free) on this doozy. Ruutu took enough rights to the ribs to leave some old beer and pea soup in the penalty box. Those 2 nasty overhands and one straight right to Rut's face also didn't help much either. Give both props for swingin away here, but LUCIC dominates this one.

Posted by oilersfansylvan on November 25, 2008 at 06:41 PM

I swear I could hear fans and players across the league cheering Lucic on....Only thing I will say is Lucic seemed to get tired pretty fast.....Oh and hard to believe ruutu is more of a man than AVERY, how bad is that....

Posted by fiskewarrior33 on April 14, 2009 at 12:18 PM

Ruutu why did you start this one? Lucic was gonna let you go. Great fight! lasted pretty long.

Posted by Dr.Jekyll540 on March 01, 2008 at 03:50 AM

lets not forgot Ruutu challenged Lucic and Lucic was tired. Laraque never challenged Lucic and if Laraque is the fighter he is he should have challenged Chara but no he is a pussy. Lucic wins the fight hands down Ruutu will never fight Lucic again guaranteed.

Posted by BostonBruins19 on February 29, 2008 at 03:50 PM

Good fight, its amazing that both of them were standing at the end of it. Lucic with the clear win because Ruutu never landed anything solid. Lucic did land a few god ones and overpowered Ruutu for most of the fight (he should, as he is 20lbs heavier). Idk how people are complaining that he didnt fight BGL when he didnt even want to fight Ruutu. He was wearing a half-shield because he re-broke his nose a few games ago (it was severely broken during a game against the flyers earlier in the season).

Posted by kaznco on March 02, 2008 at 11:27 AM

Ruutu went looking for it...how can you Lucic haters say any different. Regardless if BGL wanted him earlier, Lucic had no choice but beat Ruutu up.

Posted by camsdad on February 29, 2008 at 10:52 AM

Lucic dominated this fight, Ruutu did nothing in this one. I am Bruins fan, and you are right about the announcer. He sucks. I do however like Brickley`s color commentary. Jack`s got to go.

Posted by BigPapa08 on February 29, 2008 at 08:01 PM

Ruutu for some unknown reason really wanted Lucic, probably not so much anymore. Win for Lucic in a marathon bout for more puches with bad intent. That was as hard as I have seen Milan try to take somebodies head off all year.

Posted by kalismkkr on February 29, 2008 at 11:21 PM

Ruutu was owned. Just because he can take a beating does not mean he won or it is even a draw. He instigated but Lucic clearly controlled. Would have liked to see Laraque clean the ice with Lucic.

Posted by tvwillia1 on March 02, 2008 at 10:04 AM

body shots?! nice technique

Lucic wins but Ruutu did great job too. Ruutu will NEVER surrender!

Posted by JCeltic on February 29, 2008 at 10:57 AM

Some good hits from both, but Lucic gets the edge by far. Kid is fucking 19 years old?? Fighting with a broken nose?? And still controls his opposers arm enough so the guy cant get too many hits on him straight on? That is some pure strength and skill, the kid does have a boxing backround (just keep that in mind). And your a retard if your getting on Luch about not going after BGL. Lucic has been publicly said due to his broken nose, he doesnt intend on looking for fights like he had been, and wanted to straight focus on hockey, a commendeble and smart thing to say. . .BGL didnt initiate like Ruutu did, Ruutu got in Lucics face and was pushing him like a whiny little bitch, so what else can you do? Man up. Drop the gloves. And show him up. Give this 19 year old hard ass a couple years. . . . thats going to be one dangerous little canuck.

Posted by cujo8922 on February 29, 2008 at 01:37 PM

Lucic has proved over the season that he is more than a goon. For anyone who has followed the team, this kid has shown that he has great potential to be a physical power forward in the league with a booming slap shot. Also, this was a pretty even match up. Ruutu is about an inch shorter and maybe 10 pounds lighter. Not a huge difference there. Kudos to Milan for taking on the older, more experienced scrapper.

Posted by Elliottism on March 03, 2008 at 08:15 AM

Lucic was at the end of his shift, and had already declined to fight Laraque earlier in the night due to his broken nose. I was in attendence for this game and actually saw Laraque approach Lucic before a faceoff, and Lucic was shaking his head. Very honorable. Ruutu on the other hand, checked Lucic, and continued to hit him and instigate for no apparent reason. Lucic was visibly tired and wanted the fight to be broken up on several occasions, but still managed to land enough punches to settle the dispute and earn the decision. A bit drawn-out, but very entertaining bout.

Posted by ColtonORRules on November 24, 2008 at 06:17 PM

lucic pretty obvious win he hit ruutu pretty good a few times there

Posted by Clutterbuck on February 18, 2009 at 05:51 PM

Love to see the hack ruutu get his a$$ handed to him.

Posted by pvdrummer2000 on February 08, 2013 at 06:49 PM

Ruutu made a big mistake going after Lucic. Total domination!!!

Posted by Bruins29 on February 29, 2008 at 03:18 PM

Ruutu really wanted this fight, and now he probably wishes it never happened. Lucic used his huge strength advantage to prevent Ruutu from throwing any decent punches. Lucic landed several, including a bunch of body blows. Lucic with the decisive win in a 1:45 marathon fight.

Posted by Pickle2728 on March 01, 2008 at 02:31 PM

Shame the 2nd worst announcers in the league (behind ANA) ruined a titanic battle. DECISIVE WIN = LUCIC

Posted by riggs61a on February 29, 2008 at 10:09 AM

Your dumb ACES maybe you should watch the fight this time instead of just hating on lucic. BGL challenged Thornton not Lucic earlier in the game. Lucic has a visor because he has broken his nose twice this season so he shouldn't even be fighting. Ruutu challenged and lucic eventually obliged and kicked his butt pretty good you cant honestly be faulting Lucic for fighting a middleweight who challenged him when he isn't supposed to be fighting anyone in the first place. Anyone who doesn't call this a win for lucic is blind and has to have some agenda.

Posted by Jellyczar on February 25, 2017 at 12:27 PM

Ruutu had been winning most of his fights this year ...then he ran into Lucic and got completely manhandled ahnd destroyed. He bit off way more than he coulld chew. Domination Lucic....

Posted by latendresse on February 29, 2008 at 11:09 PM

Good fight

Any time someone Beats Ruutu I am Happy

Posted by Tangy30 on February 29, 2008 at 12:34 PM

Good scrap. I love to see uppercuts and body shots mixed in there, even if they miss. A couple solid chin shots landed by Lucic. Thought Ruutu was going to hammertime the way that he was instigating, but he didn't throw, and didn't have an answer for anything.

Posted by ibled4theusa on March 01, 2008 at 06:58 PM

That was very very good. Took awhile but anytime Jarckass Ruutu gets his what for makes me a happy Vet. Funny he usually does that to little Euros who he can whoop, but a Canadian different story. Musta thought Lucic was from Europe. Nice long slow whoopin as the openings allowed Lucic to introduce Ruutu to what we use to call a knuckle sandwich.

Posted by Crocosaur on March 02, 2008 at 05:56 AM

That was quite possibly the best fight I've seen in a long time. Lucic did everything right...he softened him up with body shots. He picked and chose his spots, and connected on most of them. But most of all, he kept Ruutu from getting at him with that right hand you know he wanted to unload.. Not to take away from Ruutu's effort, but that was sheer brilliance on the part of Milan Lucic.

Posted by Clark75 on February 29, 2008 at 08:31 AM

Lucic tooled Ruutu here. The best part was that Ruutu wanted to go with him. Lucic is one tough customer. I think he was a little gun shy after getting his beak broke. I guess he's back. You picked on the wrong guy Ruutu. Would love to hear the Pittsburg feed (FSN) on this one just to hear Bob Errey and that other moron talk about how Lucic will get worked.

Posted by aerotunes on February 29, 2008 at 03:02 PM

How's this Lucic stud? Ruutu jumps him at the end of his shift and gets his butt kicked. Nice job Lucic, Teddie Green would be proud! btw, I heard a rumor that the Flyers may play in the AHL next year. Anyone heard that?

Posted by qazwsxedcfv on February 29, 2008 at 08:18 PM

The announcers were stupid. But Lucic still won the fight. Even Penguins fans (other than the guy below me) can admit that. If anyone complains about the visor, note that it was off Lucic before Ruutu even tried to (or could) throw a punch.

Posted by Cid on March 01, 2008 at 01:21 AM

Why would a 19 year old kid with actual hockey sense and skill fight a 3 minute a game, 30 year old goon, like Laraque? please. If Georges has any class, he wouldn't have even tried to go after the kid. Not Lucic's fault Pittsburgh got their butts kicked and their rental player for the playoffs got injured. Deal with it. Not to mention Lucic is wearing the visor for a reason and not suppose to be fighting. Ruttu got the ass kicking he deserved despite the fact. Also, BGL, please.... he doesn't fight, he wrestles people to the ground and punches people in the back of the helmet.

Posted by foiledup on March 01, 2008 at 12:21 AM

best fight ive seen all year..lucic clear winner here....lands numerous big shots through out fight..ruutu landed a couple late, but damage was already done..

Posted by BattleAxe13 on February 29, 2008 at 01:04 PM

Definetly not a quality win for Lucic, who p*ssed out from Laraque. I don't want to hear the broken nose excuse because people fight with broken noses all the time, boxers fight entire matches when their nose is broken. Lucic lost a lot of respect from me for this one. I really liked him but chickening out and whining about having a visor when Laraque said lets go is way too cowardly, smart, but cowardly. Yes Lucic gets the win but kudos to Ruutu for taking on a bigger guy with a much longer reach.

Posted by jhubb on February 29, 2008 at 08:56 AM

to:bufordjustice ruutu is the one that ran Lucic, and started the fight, get a clue, also,Lucic, ahs a broken nose, in a totally lopsided game, there is no reason for him to want to fight, anybody, this was started by Ruutu all the way, must be a Pens fan...

Posted by droppingbombs on February 29, 2008 at 07:24 AM

Love this kid! How can you not love this kid? 19? He has been told not to fight by the Bruins right now, because of his nose being broken three times this season. But still fights, and gives Ruutu a beating. Love it

lucic with the win but what a pussy he is fighting a weaker guy when laraque challenged him all night

Posted by Dijo on March 01, 2008 at 09:48 AM

LUCIC WITH THE WIN! I can't believe some people are criticizing Lucic for not fighting Laraque, but beating up Ruutu instead. Lucic wasn't looking to fight anyone. Ruutu went after him. Ruutu only did it because he knows Lucic isn't 100%. Give Lucic credit. He protected his nose and he beat a pretty tough player.

Posted by preds321 on February 29, 2008 at 11:43 AM

Lucic didn't have much of a choice here, he was pretty much forced into this fight.....which he won

Posted by Wolf_eyes on February 29, 2008 at 03:51 AM

Lucic looked great in that one. Jarkko is a tough cookie, and smart- but Lucic landed the only real punches. Easy decision.

Posted by dwcca on February 29, 2008 at 10:02 AM

lucic is one tough kid and was smart to keep a good grip on ruuto's jersey, ruuto proved yet again he aint a great fighter but is a true cement head u probably couldnt hurt him with a bat to the head, not to take his credit away lucic with win, but ruutu with A LOT of practice is like a tie domi u just cant hurt him, ask ben ondrus ( faught last season) and this season darcy tucker

Posted by Cainstv28 on February 29, 2008 at 12:44 PM

Ruutu challenged Lucic to a point where Lucic had no choice but to fight. Lucic pounded Ruutu with body shots. I say if Lucic didnt have a broken nose right now he would have been more willing to swing instead he showed how strong he was. BGL might have been a good fight but not when his nose is all messed up. give him like 6weeks to heal then we'll see. props to Lucic for manning up with a broken nose. I don't see how u can say Ruutu won based off one punch that wouldnt have done anything to Lucic if he didnt have a broken nose. Win Lucic, that is all.

Posted by azjim on March 01, 2008 at 05:42 AM

jjhawksjj - I agree 100%. Body shots? Was he expecting Ruutu to tire in the eighth round? Hitting a professional hockey player with body shots isn't going to mean anything, unless he's going to be there when the guy gets out of bed the next morning. That announcer, with his Joe Fraiser analogy, is laughable. I don't take anything away from Lucic, he's a tough kid. But Ruutu hurt him at the end. All in all, a good tactical fight. Props to Ruutu; all of the people who say he won't drop the gloves should be ashamed.

Posted by NTS1 on February 29, 2008 at 04:53 PM

Blown away by the ignorance of some comments. RAT-TU begs for the fight and then gets beat. Why is anyone chirping Lucic? Someone should pump Ruutu at the start of every game so he thinks twice about hurting someone with a cheap shot. Lucic wins the fight handily, but Ruutu does a good job hanging in there and landing one in the end. I'm not biased towards either team - christ, I'm a Leafs fan (no one to write about there anymore). This was a clear win for Lucic.

Posted by adam34 on February 29, 2008 at 10:17 AM

I was lucky enough to watch the TSN broadcast of the game. And apparently Lucic was at the end of a long shift when Ruutu went after him. So that might explain why he looked so tired. But I think Glen Healey said it best last night when he said "Next time Ruutu goes looking for a fight maybe he should find someone who doesn't know how". Classic.

clear edge to lucic

Posted by sporr on March 02, 2008 at 10:27 AM

There are obviously some people on here with major vision problems. You should have link to a referral network for eye doctors. Rutuu lands a couple at best. Lucic had his right tied up the whole fight and landed a few bombs. How you can even give Rutuu a draw much less a win is amazing. Must be Fins giving him the win because he even fights!

Posted by goon10 on February 29, 2008 at 07:36 PM

Let's get something straight, Lucic was not picking on a middleweight. True, he didn't want to fight BGL, but he clearly didn't want to fight Ruutu either. Rutuu obviously brought that on himself and I'm glad; nothing pleases me more than seeing his head snap back from a solid shot.

Posted by kovoi on March 26, 2008 at 05:39 PM

Rutuu doesn't get much credit here. While Lucic got a lot of shots in here, few were landed on Rutuu's face, and when they were, granted they were good shots, Rutuu took them and kept going. People say Rutuu just wanted to grapple from getting clocked. Obviously they didn't see him tugging the jersey trying to disconnect the strap and pull Lucic's jersey over his head. Classic hockey fight move. Another point, I'd like to show is that the ref's step in right as Rutuu is about to turn the fight around. While Rutuu might not have won if the ref's hadn't stepped in anyway, he didn't get a good chance to start going. My opinion might seemed biases because I'm a Rutuu fan, but let's give Lucic some credit. He didn't want to scrap at first and dropped the gloves, he mixes body shots with head shots and grappling, and keeps going 'til the "end." I like that style. I just don't like the ref's stepping in early unless it's a total hugfest (obviously not the case here) or someone's on the ice. And please, someone jam a skate down the announcer's throat.

Posted by ROCK HAWK on February 29, 2008 at 03:08 PM

Lucic all the way ! wasnt even close...Ruutu forced the fight with a guy coming off a long shift and a broken nose. AND STILL GOT HIS A$$ KICKED !! HAHAHA. if u voted for Ruutu you are Ruutarded.. no kudos for Ruutu - so what if the other guy is a little bigger??, he tried to pick a good spot to take him on and he got SMOKED!

Posted by lucic17 on February 29, 2008 at 08:01 AM

lucic fights with a broken nose-gutsy give credit to ruutu for going with lucic lucic dominated-who gave it to ruutu or called it a draw? don't call me a homer-lucic clear cut win nice bomb on the replay-rocked ruutu too bad about the broken noses this year-lucic would've fought more and he's fun to watch

Posted by donnybrook17 on February 29, 2008 at 11:40 AM

Anyone who doesn't give Lucic the win didn't watch or sees the world through Crosby-colored glasses. Lucic, fighting with a broken nose, lands several solid punches (the highlighted cross at the end is classic), and Ruutu never touches him. Decent bout, lopsided result. On a side note, Jack Edwards is annoying as all hell.

Posted by Drewmama on February 29, 2008 at 12:20 PM

Give credit for Milan scrapping with the busted nose. Doesn't matter who he battles one good punch to the shnawz and it could be lights out him. Held his own.

Posted by airbreather765 on February 29, 2008 at 04:57 PM

For all you saying lucic is a pussy for not taking on laraque and than taking on the smaller ruutu, you are wrong. lucic didn't want this fight he was trying to change but ruutu came over and gave him no choice. Win lucic

Posted by radioactiverich on February 29, 2008 at 03:28 PM

So no heavy bombs landed by either guy, Lucic definetly landed more since he was the only one throwing, as far as Ruutu landing the only quality punches, they both landed at 1.22 and lucic popped ruutu at 1.30 watch the helmet. And sorry aces50 but snapping some one in the ear with a weak left jab doesnt count as the "The best shot of the fight ..." Also the mute button works wonders for the homer announcers, unless you guys actually need a play by play to actually figure out what is going on in fight???

Posted by darkstorm1994 on March 02, 2008 at 07:15 PM

these pecker headed announcers made this more lopsided than it was. ruutu wanted it and lucic went along after awhile. announcers said he's learned to pick his spots. he picked his spot alright , just not when laraque wanted to go. bout goes to lucic but not by much.

Posted by pauleolithic on February 29, 2008 at 02:10 PM

I like both of those guys, good tilt

Posted by daja on March 01, 2008 at 05:39 AM

A good fight, Lucic won that one pretty easy but Ruttu had a couple of good punches in the end. Really like Ruttu, he never backs away from a fight, a good strong European player who can handle himself with the gloves off.

Posted by dead_golem on February 29, 2008 at 07:04 AM

Wow, why did Ruutu want this fight? Suprised he hung in for that much punishment. He got destroyed!

Posted by Adambruinsfan on March 20, 2008 at 10:20 PM

Awesome win by Lucic, what a fight. Ruutu picked on Lucic when Lucic was at the end of his shift and he still got his ass handed to him by Lucic. Lucic landed some bombs on Ruutu's face. Ruutu couldn't do shit until the end with a few lefts.

Posted by korto_vos on February 29, 2008 at 05:39 AM

Posted by aces50 on February 29, 2008 at 09:43 AM

I see all the Lucic fans are voting. Lucic is much bigger and stronger than Ruutu should have killed him. This fight was a draw. The best shot of the fight was by Ruutu to Lucic face. Lucic bailed out with that one and the linesman even broke it up at that point. Apparently Lucic was hurt. The body shots to Ruutu did not even slow him down. You guys should watch the fight instead of listening to a homer announcer. BGL asked him to go ealier in the game and he ran away. To be the big guy you have to fight the best, not the middlewieghts.
