Gillies employs the same strategy
that earned him limited success in the King fight,
but Godard has obviously seen the clip,
and uses his strength, and experience to pound Gillies
much more effectively than King did, off the top.

Overall, Godard's lefts were as good as Gillies lefts,
but his early barrage of rights went unanswered,
and made the difference in the fight
despite the meaningless take down at the end.

For me, this scrap helps to put two things in perspective...

A) ...how much I seem to have underestimated Gillies,
who just went toe-to-toe with two of the leagues best,
and, not only lived to tell about it, but did fairly well ...

and B) ...how far away DJ is from the likes of a real Champ.

Godard ran out of steam at the end, letting Gillies back in. Until then Godard was in command.

Good fight..
Godard got off to a good start and shows he's got talent to go with either hand as needed.
Gillies again shows that he can hang in there and trying to climb up the heavyweight ladder...though I'm not yet convinced he'll ever crack the top 5.
Win Godard.
Great sporstmanship by Gillies.

Win for Godard. Not the full out ass whooping Engelland layed on Orr, but a win nonetheless.

2 guys from last season I miss. Draw. Isles are boring this year they should recall an enforcer.

Godard got positioning in the beginning and was able to take advantage. Gillies took the blows, shrugged them off, then took out Godard with damaging blows of his own, eventually taking out Godard. It went back and forth, but Gillies clearly took this one.

Gillies is tough, fearless, seems to have better wind than most of his opponents, and knows how to throw a sledgehammer left. If he keeps this up, he's going to crack my top five.

Godard wins first half, Gillies wins second half. I would call that a draw, Godard thumping on Gillies helmet doesn't give him the win!!
