Downie's punches were nowhere near to connect. Sad to say but voting in here is not objective. Too bad, we didn't get Ovechkin vs. Downie, that would've been interesting.

Posted by LightningDogg on January 13, 2010 at 07:24 PM

This was an ambush, not a fight. Downie popped Ovie in the mouth after taking a questionable high hit and they both got 2 for roughing. They were chirping at each other out of the penalty box as soon as they hit the ice. Downie was jumped by Ovechkin's boyfriend Bradley after #8 dropped his lid and gloves and then backed away. Real leadership skills. Bradley got a game misconduct for coming all the way from the bench. Ovie didn't even wrinkle his skirt!

i think OV should fight bradley for making him look like a punk

Posted by Heywood Jablomi on January 13, 2010 at 08:22 AM

You cannot fault anyone in this. Downie did his job by getting Ovechkin off the ice. Ovechken did his job by answering the bell, no matter what that tool from the broadcast says and Bradley did his job by stepping in for the star player. What if Bradley had not done that and Ovechkin had busted his hand? I love a good fight like the next guy and love to see top players like Iginla get into them, but given the chance, Ovechkin needed to be protected and Bradley did it. Also, if you waw the speed with which Bradley skated over I will bet the coach told him to get his ass out there and protect our star.

Posted by SyrCrunch11 on April 29, 2011 at 11:02 PM

How does anyone say Ovy chickened out on this and oh he needed a babysitter??His helmet was on the ice for MAYBE 3 seconds and Bradley was there.

Posted by bostonrs555 on January 13, 2010 at 08:50 AM

Ovie looks like he was just going to wait for the linesman to jump in anyway... At least we get a mini scrap and a DEERAWWWW.....

Posted by akpryde2 on January 13, 2010 at 08:28 PM

I love the Crosby fan club on here bagging on Ovechkin for "pussing out." If you watch the fight without your head up Sidney Crosby's ass you can see that Ovie was ready to go with Downie before Bradley flew into the picture. Apparently these folks think it's "code" to be the third man in. Idiots. If Ovechkin really wanted to be as tough as Crosby, he could have jumped on Downie after Bradley got him down and started flailing at his grundlesack from behind... because, you know, that's what Crosby's about.

Posted by kendryden on January 13, 2010 at 04:33 PM

All the Ovechkin haters need to get their eyes checked. He was ready to go, he even took off his bucket.

Posted by tbl04 on January 15, 2010 at 07:56 PM

kinda cheap on bradley's part i understand rushing to ovechkins side since he is a pussy but seriously let them go...you dont charge at someone who isnt focused on you and you can see in the video bradley came right off the bench and went straight there..wasnt even a good fight in the first place

Posted by bigpimpin28 on February 12, 2010 at 10:26 AM

you know wat i think ovechkin is a bitch and should have taken on downie but he is to big of a bitch and he knew that downie would have owned his ass. but and as for bradley jumping in was okay if the guy was much bigger then his teammate but in this case it was a bunch of shit

Posted by Behn Wilson on January 13, 2010 at 08:25 PM

Would have rather seen the original pairing... Quoted RiffRaff, not Rugby...on the last fight. My bad.

Posted by mrunohoo on January 13, 2010 at 11:55 PM

it's amazing how stupid most people are that post on here. OV dropped the gloves andtook off his lid, to fight the dumbass downie. brdley did his job by defending his team's superstar. domTB fans want to see st. louis fight his battles? dumbasses.

Posted by giantsfrey on January 13, 2010 at 07:34 AM

looks like ovi found a way to dodge his first nhl fight again. they probably have it in their gameplan to send somebody off the bench like that in case ovi ever gets in a bind hah draw

Posted by MSUfaninMO on January 13, 2010 at 10:16 PM

Hard to rate this fight. Downie has dropped his gloves and is ready to fight Alexander the Great. Then Bradley skates in and drops his gloves. I give kudos to Bradley for defending his teammate. I give Downie for still throwing down when Bradley skates in. DRAW

Posted by Lightningfan76 on January 13, 2010 at 09:45 PM

First of all, Bradley had no business getting in this fight! Ovechkin knew what he was doing and thats why he dropped the gloves. And people only hate on Downie because he's got heart. If you want to rag on someone it's Bradley for getting in other peoples business. I cant even give that guy the win.

Posted by Hagstrom on January 13, 2010 at 03:15 AM

Well firstly, Ovie was fully prepared to fight, the lightning commentator is a knob. Secondly, from what I saw Bradley landed a couple good shots and then lost his balance and Downie landed a couple as well. Draw

Posted by fernben8 on January 13, 2010 at 09:13 AM

Somebody tell Downie that it's not cool to fight the "superstars" in the league..great job by Bradley to defend his captain.Dinner on Ovechkin..Brads!

Posted by bolts91 on January 12, 2010 at 10:56 PM

This was supposed to be Downie vs Ovechkin but Bradley came off the bench and jumped in once the two already dropped the gloves. After the fight Downie was PISSED he didnt get to fight Ovechkin. Draw

Posted by bluesrule08 on January 13, 2010 at 12:54 PM

bradley is a loser!!! why cant he let ovechkin fight? if ovechkin wants to go balls out every game and nearly hurt himself then let him put his money where his mouth is and let the guy fight. he probably would do better that bradley cuz i cant remember the last time i voted for him to win a fight.

Posted by probiehawk24 on January 13, 2010 at 08:18 AM

You have the best player in the world and no one to protect him. Dumb

Posted by brymaster1 on January 13, 2010 at 02:21 AM

i cant believe im saying this but props to ovechkin for even dropping the gloves and lid.

Posted by Sportaholic on December 04, 2010 at 02:44 PM

classic fight, if only for the fact that Brads stuck up for his captain, the same week he was given the "C". he definitely deserved the "Third Man In" penalty. i don't know how the announcer could say "Ovechkin didn't answer the bell." he threw his gloves with Downie after Downie approached him, and he had no idea Bradley was gonna fy in to his aid. i think Ovechkin wanted to fight, and he'll get his wish some day. here's betting he's better than Sasha Semin.

Bradley is a douch let Ovie have a try

Posted by ghjkfdhgfd on January 16, 2010 at 04:04 PM

Posted by CoqFightfan on January 15, 2010 at 05:19 AM

"Ovechkin didn't answer the bell" you sir are retarded. I swear the commentators in the states are borderline retarded.. I feel sorry for anyone that has to listen to that joker every game.. Ovi tried to fight but Matt Bradley did what every player should do when a player like Downie trys to fight Ovechkin... lets see here Ovechkin, Capitals signs 13-year, $124 million contract GP G A P +/- 38 28 29 57 23 388th 3rd 17th 3rd 3rd Downie, Lighting GP G A P +/- 44 10 12 22 6 237th 126th 210th 177th 105th YEP he should be fighting Downie.. I will admit he is good at his job of being a "pest" but hes got no business trying to fight Ovechkin. Posted by the4thliner on Jan 13, 2010 at 6:54 AM I'll tell you who didn't win the fight- Captain O. What a puss... Even Sid fights for himself once in a while your a clown and you think like a "4th liner" gtfo

Posted by shrk33 on January 13, 2010 at 12:44 PM

I don't know if not answering the bell is accurate by the announcer. Ovechkin was ready and Bradley just stepped in for his Captain as the helmet was put to the ice. . Bradley has the edge in this "fight".

Posted by lightning101 on January 13, 2010 at 11:11 AM

Ovechkin was running his mouth all game and barking at Downie during the two minuts prior when both were in the penalty box, they agreed they were going to go when they got out. Hats off to Ovechkin for dropping the gloves and Bradley did what he was supposed to do to protect the superstar. Lightning fan but agree with what transpired.

Posted by Slayers on January 13, 2010 at 12:07 PM

Bradley did not leave the bench! There was a line change. The announcers and certain people posting obviously need to look at the video. Btw... Bradley did win. Close, but he won.

Posted by Heyzeus on January 14, 2010 at 08:44 AM

Definitely would've liked to see Ovechkin go, but he really shouldn't be fighting scrubs like Downie. I liked how he was willing though, even took off the visor... As for the actual fight, win Bradley..

Posted by Detroit_Caps on January 13, 2010 at 10:06 AM

Someone has a bullseye on their neck. Next game Downie must be target number one and intentionally injured!!! Good for Brads taking up the enforcer role, although Alex could of easily beaten the hell out of this putz! The element of surprise sneaks volumes but Downie didnt do a damn thing but miss with soft haymakers Again: injure Downie!

Posted by bruins rule on January 13, 2010 at 06:08 PM

bradley with the edge in this fight.

Posted by elks_scraps on January 13, 2010 at 02:41 PM

I dont know why eveyone is bitching about Ovie being a bitch. Obviously he was down to go with Downie, but Bradley jumped in before he could. Its not his fault that his team wont let him fight, but good on Bradley for doing it. And at least Ovie was going to fight against someone half decent, not like Sid with Andrew Ference...ooooo scary

Posted by k.L on January 13, 2010 at 08:30 PM

Hey, not only did Ovi drop his gloves. He took his helmet off.

Posted by Razor73 on January 14, 2010 at 05:31 AM

Win Bradley and great job too to defend his C and superstar.

Posted by mjb_17 on January 13, 2010 at 01:33 PM

WOW Half of you people are retarded!! Why wouldn't Bradley step in?? What does Ovechkin gain from fighting this piece of crap Downie?? He gains nothing.....Ovechkin make more per shift then this idiot does in a seasons....good for Bradley with the big win!!!!

Posted by GADESFAN on January 13, 2010 at 10:47 AM

Some idiots just dont get it when it comes to hockey fighting! Calling out OV because he did not get to go with the agitator is bull. He did drop the gloves remember. Bradley did the right thing too. Who in their right mind is gonna let the team, and league's, star drop em against some punk who's only reason to be on the ice is to get stuff like that started. I guess these idiots wanna see Crosby go with Parros. Know your damn roll!

Posted by Ryan44 on January 13, 2010 at 04:59 AM

Credits to Bradley and Ovie. Downie is the biggest b?!*h in NHL.

Posted by tattooedkingpin on January 13, 2010 at 02:14 PM

Great to see Bradley come to protect his captain. i dont care if ovechkin was willing, he would have gotten pummelled. Props to Bradley for his "role" in this fight.

Posted by bodyshot5 on January 13, 2010 at 02:58 PM

Bradley in a close one.

Posted by frazinator on January 13, 2010 at 03:20 PM

The Tampa Bay announcers are awful. They claim that Ovie went after Downie when clearly it was Downie who hooked Ovechkin after coming out of the box. Regardless, I would've loved to see Ovie pound the sh*t out of Downie. Thanks a lot Brads.

Posted by crosscheck52 on January 13, 2010 at 10:04 PM

I don't see this as a third man in, but I sure would have liked to have seen Ovechkin fight. Downie saw Bradley coming all the way, and knew what to expect. Anyone calling out Ovechkin on this turn of events: Tell me you wouldn't want him on your team. I live in DC and I'm not a huge Cap fan, but name a team or a player who wouldn't come to Ovechkin's defense (not that he needs it) in a situation like this.

Posted by Esjay1980 on January 14, 2010 at 07:34 AM

All the Ovechkin haters need to STFU; he not only asks for the fight, but he takes his bucket off. I know a certain Crosby who fights with his visor on and jumps guys. Good on Bradley for protecting the franchise...edge to him. Somebody needs to send Downie back to the stone ages....

Posted by m4rine77 on January 13, 2010 at 03:07 PM

bradley with the clean win. brads jumps in and lands three punches then gets thrown down after a couple misses. obvious win for brads. wish ovie would have been alloweed to fight though haha that would have been a sight to see. the capitals NEED a fighter though. if bradley's the best we got then it's almost embarassing. oh and it's funny to read all you haters bitching about ovechkin just cuz he's not on your team hahaha oh yeah and he definately telepathically called bradley for help. are you kidding me?? how could he have possibly bitched out? get a life you scum bags

Posted by Avenged7_Fold on September 29, 2010 at 09:58 AM

That is a player that knows his role on the team. Way to go Bradley

Posted by Juha82 on January 13, 2010 at 11:32 AM

This was actually a fight where Bradley did well. He EDGED Downie BECAUSE he landed more punches. His punches were good ones for sure!! He got takendown but i don't count takedowns. Bradley won by punch-count, outlanding his opponent simply. Good short fight.

Posted by graserk on January 13, 2010 at 06:13 PM

How can you hate on Ovie when he was obviously ready to go? Did he puss out? No. Brads stepped in, and took care of business for him.

Bradley won... but i wish he had let ovie take this one!

Posted by Wensinkfan on January 13, 2010 at 11:34 AM

Bradley was out of line charging in on Ovechkin's business. He had his gloves and helmet off and was perfectly willing to fight. I know Bradley did this because he's conditioned to but: the way Ovechkin plays is very physical and he does need to stand up and be counted like almost everyone else in the NHL. He was willing to do that so hats off to him. Too bad he's one of the best and makes money like no other. Tough s***. I wouldn't think he's one of these wimpy goal scorers like a Phil Kessel. Ovechkin actually needs to have another fight. He had one in 2006 where his team did him more harm than good. Let the guy play hockey.

Posted by CairnsIsGod33 on January 13, 2010 at 01:24 AM

There's standing up for a teammate but this is ridiculous. Ovechkin had already dropped the gloves before Bradley steps in. I'm glad Downie won for the bitch move by Bradley. The only reason I can think of for Downie to get the misconduct is for what happened after the fight but other than that, 5 for fighting is all he should have gotten.

Posted by waffleboy on January 13, 2010 at 06:43 PM

This is bush league. Ovechkin challenged Downie and was ready to go. For anyone to say that Downie was coming after Ovechkin when he got run, they don't know hockey. Hell, I even saw Teemu Selanne drop the gloves. Once. Ovechkin can't play the chippy style he plays and not back it up. If he wants to go, his teammates need to let him. For that reason, the fight has to go to Downie. Bradley comes in from out of nowhere to "defend" a dirty player. This kind of stuff has no business is hockey.

Posted by bruiseyoureye on January 14, 2010 at 12:28 AM

downie wins. ovechkin is such a puzzy. i wanted to see ovechkin get pummeled by downie. ovechkin is the DIRTIEST PLAYER in the whole nhl..........i was hoping to see ovechkin carried off the ice on a stretcher.......i guess all of our wishes dont come true.

Posted by PFLY64 on January 14, 2010 at 09:37 AM

LEAGUE, NHL TEAM, FLYERS Thats a league and a team that diddnt defend its star player at every turn, only the new age pussystar gets to be reverred, OVIE is a bitch, Lindros would have beat him senseless and could dominate more than the crapital savior, in todays game Stevens would have been suspended how many times or would he have

Posted by Crowdpleezr on January 12, 2010 at 10:40 PM

Downie, but barely. He's the best "pest" in the league right now. I'm posting before the video comes up, so I hope it shows how Bradley stole this dance from Ovechkin. Too funny.

Posted by Liberal Flyer on January 13, 2010 at 09:06 PM

Thats why Carcillo dropped that baby. Couldn't even drop the bucket and got the advantage of skating into it. 3 game suspension at least.

Posted by GongshowTy on January 13, 2010 at 10:58 PM

tough one here, obviously Bradley was trying to protect his teammate, problem is your captain is supposed to be a leader, essentially Bradley never gave OVIE a chance to prove if he was a leader or not....... downie has skills too, but most young guys that are scorers only crack nhl lineups by being agitators(downie fits this mould)......for ppl saying bradley left the bench not true essentially, but it yo watch the replay ovie and downie start chirping at the redline and continue along the sideboards into the tampa end, while this is going on a line change does occur, but bradley belines it right towards downie and ovechkin and imho is a 3rd man in because both guys had dropped their gloves thus signalling the start of a fight......bradley should have let ovie go, he would have either got pounded or silenced his critics, he is a big man 6-4 230, so im sure he can hold his own..... edge downie

Posted by dave25 on January 13, 2010 at 10:32 AM

This was a draw which is too bad, these two guys can go pretty good. Bet Ovie bought Bradleys dinner after the game.

Posted by billy jack on January 13, 2010 at 01:38 AM

so bradley jumps downie, what a goof, let ovie the big man fight,it was ovies chance to fight someone 50 pounds lighter and 3 inches shorter.bradly had the jump still lost, hes a joke.PS.was ovie haveing roid rage.

Posted by beantown on January 19, 2010 at 02:00 PM

Makes me enjoy going back and watching Carcillo knock this h0m0 out. so funny. thank you dan carcillo

Posted by EastKing on January 14, 2010 at 01:43 AM

I know many will disagree with this opinion but Bradley should have let Ovy fight for himself. My guess would be that the result actually would have been the same based on from old videos of some of the Russian fights Ovy did in the past. Ovy if allowed can fight and it would do nothing but give respect and momentum to the Caps. If Ovy is allowed to occasionally fight like Joe Thornton and Kovalchuk occasionally do than it may prevent others to think they can push him or his scoring line teammate as much as they do. Ovy is 6'2" 230 and with a couple of practice dukes can be a dual presence in the rink. I love to see him get into full square off with Iginla, Crosby or Thornton. As for the fight, once Downie came the grips that he was not fighting Ovy but Bradley he got control of the fight. For that reason I give it to Downie. Seemed that most of Bradley best shots were before Downie realized he was getting hit by someone else. Hopefully next time they play Ovy and Downie will square off uninterrupted.

Posted by the4thliner on January 13, 2010 at 09:54 AM

I'll tell you who didn't win the fight- Captain O. What a puss... Even Sid fights for himself once in a while

Posted by tnaveler on January 13, 2010 at 10:54 AM

Pure coward on OV's part. "I'm a prissy little cheapshot artist, I'm to good to fight". There are many stars in this league that are willing to drop thew mits when called upon. Lecavalier, Iginla, Crosby and Thornton. It seems like OV likes to stick that knee out, it ain't his first attempt to injure.

Posted by LUCICOWNS29 on January 13, 2010 at 10:00 PM

i give it to downie because bradley is a punk for jumping for ovie i was hoping to see ovie get his face pounded hes nothing but a punk toews fights for himself and sid the kid so make ovie he is nothing but a dirty punk someone always gott do his dirty work

Posted by tedzepman on January 13, 2010 at 11:42 AM

Bradley loses because he is the third man in, and made his Captain look like a girl in front of thousands. Ovechkin loses because as a Captain, he needs to stick up for himself (Mike Richards comes to mind.) Ovechkin loses again, because as a player than runs other players and plays dirty, you MUST answer the bell yourself. Downie wins the fight over Ovechkin, by putting Ovie in the box, and stripping Ovie of his manhood. Downie drew the actual real fight despite being jumped by Ol' Glass Jaw Bradley (remember when Carcillo dropped him hard?) Downie loses his cool, and that's all he lost.

Posted by wetstick on January 12, 2010 at 11:39 PM

bradly sucks, he needs to get his old job back at Long john silvers and quit acting like he can throw down, easy win for whoever fights matt bradly

Posted by metz87 on January 13, 2010 at 05:47 PM

What the heck was that? Bradley had no right to jump in that fight and take someone else's fight away. Just for that I give Downie the win. Bradley is a jerk for that move. I hope Bradely got kicked out of the game for that and gets fined for this.

Posted by JABUSHFSU on January 14, 2010 at 06:15 PM

we were going to get a good fight. both oveckin and downie took off their helmets. then you have a-hole bradley jumps in and gets beat up. thanks ahole. you ruining 30 seconds to a min of my life.

Posted by Chalupa on January 13, 2010 at 03:16 PM

Oforeskin didn't want to fight !! He knew Bradley was on his way to fight for the baby. Downie would've destroyed Lil"O". I hope somewhere down the line someone puts that b1tch in his place. He and Bettman are probably having lunch today and talking about how scary it was !! Hey "Crapital" fans...win a Cup or shut the hell up !!!!!!!

Posted by dogman158 on February 01, 2010 at 09:23 AM

Ovechkin looked like a jackass standing there with his gloves off. And wanna talk about cheap, he absolutely gets away with leaving his feet more than anyone in league. He might be be one of the best who ever played and I love watching him play but he should be ashamed to stand there and watch. You gotta go when you answer the bell. It certainly wasn't like he got jumped, he agreed to the fight and whimped out.

Posted by the cooter on January 12, 2010 at 11:21 PM

pretty sure ov wasn't "happy"... threw off his helmet and dropped the gloves before bradley interuppted

Posted by GaussCannon on January 13, 2010 at 10:58 AM

Ovie can't even fight his own battles. Ovie and Downie dropped the gloves then Bradley ran from the Bench to the fight and jumped on Downie. What a loser. Great job Downie!!

Posted by C. Alter on March 10, 2010 at 04:05 PM

While it would have been interesting to see a fight between a comparatively worthless player and AO, that's the style of hockey of an era long-gone. Todays game is about skilled players like AO, Crosby, Malkin, Backstrom, etc. The role of someone like Downie is to get AO off the ice. Bradley did an amazing job, in spite of the fact that's not a fighter. I guess the standings show who's worthless and who isn't. AO & friends at the top of the league and Tampa not likely to make the playoffs yet again. Downie may have gotten the takedown, but he failed in the number 1 objective. He may have narrowly one a fight, but lost the battle.

Posted by chad420 on January 17, 2010 at 08:18 PM

Posted by rocky7482 on January 13, 2010 at 05:44 PM

nice job by "Ovechicken"....for once in my life I admired downie here....the gutless OV had a chance to actually take a step toward becoming a power forward, but.....NAH...one of his babysitters had to come to the rescue.

Posted by zonapensfan on January 13, 2010 at 10:40 PM

What a joke AO is ready to throw and Bradley comes flying in with a bucket still on even though Downie had taken his off. Bull**** move in my book...

Posted by PitbullX on January 13, 2010 at 11:35 PM

If it was Crosby instead of Ovy, the comments would be drastically different. Hard to imagine someone coming to "save" Iginla when he's ready to go. Even Sid drops em to man up. Ovy is 6'2 220 VS Downie 5'10 200, the perfect chance for #8 to stand up. Guess it's just better for him to knee guys than fight. Welcome to the NEW NHL.

Posted by blackngold on January 13, 2010 at 11:35 AM

Posted by tim daddy on January 13, 2010 at 11:46 AM

Posted by hammertown on January 13, 2010 at 11:37 AM

Posted by Wings_19 on January 13, 2010 at 01:55 AM

Hate Downie but apparently Ovechkin hit one him with his patented knee on knee so you can fault Downie for going after him and you cant fault Bradley for sticking up for the star player either. Draw

Posted by Boobythebuilder on January 13, 2010 at 12:04 PM

Good job by Downie and Bradley. Downie got Ovie to drop his gloves and ended up taking both Ovie and Bradley off the ice-PP for Tampa. Bradley did a good job stepping in for his team's best player. Granted Ovie dropped his gloves and was ready to go, but personally, I'd rather NOT have him break a hand fighting.

Posted by bigwilly37 on January 13, 2010 at 11:15 AM

Ovy wanted to fight.. Good for Bradley to come to the rescue.. Downie is not some punk; he can throw them, could have got ugly for Ovy.

Posted by Starsdomination on January 14, 2010 at 08:20 AM

Good job of Bradley to step in for the best player in the league. Not Ovechkins fault that he didn't get to fight. What a class act by Ovie though, took his gloves and helmet off and let Downie do the same without trying to cheap shot him or anything. I'm sure Bradley will be getting a dinner from Alexander the Great. Ovie may have been a little mad though that he didn't get to fight.

Too bad.. I'd have liked to have seen Ovie stick up for himself.. I bet he'd do ok...

Stated perfectly Heywood Jablomi How can anyone give this to Downie? He threw one measly punch. Bradley took this fight, but I can understand a draw.

Talk about being a teammate. Bradley gets the W for more punches landed.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA that is one of the biggest chicken shyt moves I've seen in a long time. So let me get this straight everyone criticizes Olli Jokinon for fighting Franis Buechiman and Crosby for fight Ferance and Campbell. Guys that aren't none fighters that stick up for themselves, are bashed and AO gets praise for just dropping his lid and gloves? Fukin get ur lips off the Gr8t knobs bandwagon, and realize what a real fight is. If Ovie would have dropped his lid and gloves and thown some bombs whether he looked like Semin or not, then rate his courage. Fuk me even Kovie has dropped the gloves and thown punches. It just funny how he gets the C and he's a bad ass fighter now? Come on! Does any one realize that around the league AO is the laughing stock? How is boyfriend bradley came to his rescue? I give the fight to Downie, mainly because he in the end got Ovie thrown back in the sin bin and made him look stupid!

Glad Bradley lost. I wish Ovechkin would've gotten his ass beat though. Downie for the win.
