It was not a cheap shot by Sutton. He was looking to finish his check, and Rivet ducked down real low, so it would appear Sutton was going with his elbow. But he wasn't... And Mair did just hit Moulson from behind if you watch the end of the video, so the Sabres have no right to complain. Aside from being frustrated, Rivet had no reason to drop the gloves.

And with the instigator rule in the last 5:00 minutes:
I don't think he will be suspended, nor should he be suspended. Craig Rivet is a good player, and one of their best d-man. Usually suspensions would be handed out if they had a goon on the ice with 2 minutes left down by 4 goals. Rivet was on the ice for a reason.

Gotta love when a vet just snaps and starts chucking knucks. Easy win for Rivet

Rivet gave himself quite a head start, and really only had greater activity to show for it. Not enough to give a win on, in my book.

rivet gets the surprising win in this fight.

I don't like automatic fights after big checks, but it looked like Sutton attempted a forearm/elbow head shot to Rivet. I'm glad he let Sutton know about it. It's too bad about the idiotic instigator rule. Too many reckless plays going on lately. Good for Rivet, letting the Islanders know the Sabres won't stand for that cheap stuff.

Rivet is such a tool. One of those guys who only fights non-fighters or guys who he knows he'll have no problem with. If you see yourself as a tough guy there's lots of guys to choose from.

Draw. Sutton was clearly surprised, since it didn't look like he tried to go high, and certainly didn't go hard, and I couldn't see much if any contact, since Rivet either ducked or otherwise went low. At least Rivet didn't mug a smaller guy who can't handle himself. If ever the instigator call was appropriate, this is it. Don't know about a game misconduct though.

Rivet would look good in a habs jersey with a "C". Better than Gill. Not as big but can fight. Rivet with the win.

How can't U luv Rivet?

Rivet is a tough s.o.b., but that was weak, swinging on Sutton before he knew they were fighting.
Thus, draw.

Down by four, Rivet lets out his aggression, understood.
