How do you give Janssen the win here? This is clearly a draw, both had their moments. Everyone needs to turn off the volume so you can't hear the announcer and watch the fight again. The Blues colorman is scoring imaginary punches for Janssen half the fight.

Posted by Sasky001 on March 04, 2009 at 08:48 PM

Nothing landed.

Posted by Screaming Buffalo on March 04, 2009 at 01:29 AM

For as long as that fight was and as many punches were thrown, only a couple landed and none of them landed flush.

Posted by nicknines on March 04, 2009 at 11:06 AM

someone please corect me if im wrong but i didnt see one real clean shot. it was nice to see two guys stand back and throw them but how can people give that an 8 or better. todays fighters really suck people are so use to seeing these fake fights that when they see one like this they think its the best fight ever its a joke

Posted by ogie ogiltorpe on March 04, 2009 at 12:29 PM

2 good tough middleweights, even all the way, they both tied up the other's arm effectively, lots of glancing blows.....Blues homer announcer needs an eye exam....draw and nothing else

Posted by Martell on March 04, 2009 at 04:41 PM

Will be in the running for fight of the year!!!

Posted by joeye4 on March 05, 2009 at 07:37 AM

It looked like a draw. they really kept going for a very long time and throwing punches. Albeit not many connected.

Posted by acmocaco on March 04, 2009 at 12:08 AM

I don't know how anyone can say that Janssen won this fight. It seems like an obvious draw. To be honest, I admire two guys for hanging in there so long... but a few more landed punch's would have been nice. This fight was far from epic. Go check out a Probert fight sometime if you want to see a real slugfest.

Posted by aj99ny on March 04, 2009 at 09:55 AM

FOTY nominee for sure. Good to see someone dropping the gloves for the wings

Posted by slshbleed on March 04, 2009 at 07:58 AM

I thought this would be a good scrap when I saw it on the list. Both guys are pretty skilled. Both guys are good for a long fight. The got each other tied up a little bit, but it was still a pretty good fight. I say draw.

Posted by shane0mack on March 04, 2009 at 02:47 AM

middle-weight fight of the year. janssen is probably the best in his class if only because of his stamina but downey stayed in there almost the entire time. i give this a close draw and an 8. only could've been better if they were a little less defense in close and (ie like the fights back in the 80s and early 90s

Posted by brad houghton on March 04, 2009 at 10:48 AM

great work the crowd go wild and tell me why anyone would think banning fighting is smart business for the NHL??? i call it a draw and really given props to two tough guys that have no quit in them.....and the fight actually went 1:50 from when they dropped the gloves.....they don't get much longer than that!!

Posted by Poop Jack Pappy on March 05, 2009 at 06:45 PM

This was the best fight of the year. graet fight. Draw

Posted by SirYohans on March 04, 2009 at 01:26 PM

Gave this an 8 in a very entertaining scrap. I gotta vote DRAW as both fighters had their moments. Both guys landed decent shots but nothing really landing heavy. Great show of stamina for both men. Good Stuff!

Posted by jrroman on March 04, 2009 at 12:17 PM

didn't like the elbows that Downey was trying to throw. good fight two guys out there knowing what they have to do.

Posted by iceman88 on March 04, 2009 at 08:32 AM

That was a good fight! A lot of punches failed to land, but it didnt stop these two from throwing them. As a Wings fan I cannot express my excitement enough to see Downey in the line up again. We need this, you can't tell me that this did not get the bench going. Not to mention Downey's character is that of a man who knows his role and is not afraid to do his job. Babs leave him in there and forget about Mac. Hell you can even drop Maltby to keep him in the line up.

Posted by staceyb on March 04, 2009 at 05:58 AM

One of the better fights of the season. Downey is trying to show the Wings that he belongs in the NHL and not at Grand Rapids. He got Janssen out of his usual sideways stance but Cam did okay nonetheless.

Posted by JoeSchmo on March 05, 2009 at 03:55 PM

Great back and forth fight. Too close to call for either one. Just say thank you!

Posted by bruiser11 on March 04, 2009 at 01:14 PM

Those morons that are opposed to fighting in hockey look at this and all they see is violence. They think coaches and owners encourage it, yet players are not told to fight! This here is really 2 great team guys battling and picking their spots. I doubt neither Downey nor janssen was trying 2 hurt one- another. They are way too skilled at the scrapping to be injured that easily. The airborne hit by Janssen a few games back will injure a player more than this will.

Posted by Thunder Cat 2 on March 07, 2009 at 03:21 PM

Good job by Downey because I think Janssen is a better fighter and should have won. Good fight, give it a draw.

Posted by gmann14 on March 04, 2009 at 11:57 AM

Great fight slight edge to janssen ,I thought janssen landed the better punches.Detroit needs to keep Downey he's the toughest guy they have and they need the muscle.

Posted by scarfoot11 on March 04, 2009 at 07:33 PM

As a Wings fan, I dont get to see guys in the red and white sweaters drop the mitts too often. As much as i would love to be able to give the bout to Downey, i must be fair. i scored this one a draw, both guys went 1:50 without falling.

Posted by JCannon2134 on March 04, 2009 at 09:33 PM

Great all around fight they both showed some heart staying on thier feet. Draw in my eyes

Posted by EvilVirus on July 12, 2009 at 03:56 PM

Best fight so far this year, Downey lands more but Janssen lands the bigger punches, to close to call this one either way so its a draw to me.

Posted by MSUfaninMO on March 06, 2009 at 01:51 AM

I would call this one a draw. As a Blues fan I MUST say that I am not a big fan of the Kelly & Federko announcing team. They are down right HORRID at calling fights! I wish I could have been listening to call on the radio by Kelly Chase. I am sure that Chaser wasn't too over zealous calling this one. Kelly is a joke calling fights, period! This fight was the talk of the day on St. Louis radio on Wednesday afternoon. There was little to no talk of the actual game. Possibly because the Blues played flat and unispired hockey after the Polak hit on Hossa.

If half of the punches thrown by both guys connected neither would have skated off. I will give it a 9 for show and intent but 5 for reality. I call it a draw but if I had to pick one over the other. slight edge to Cam. But I call it a draw. The announcers I would say "a bit over zealous"

Posted by donkeymonk178 on March 03, 2009 at 10:37 PM

great fight!!!! have to call it a draw.

Posted by rowbearprobear on March 04, 2009 at 05:13 PM

huge wings head, but... this one was a draw... great fight by two warriors i watched the detroit feed and came to the same conclusion after watching the saint louis feed - draw cam might have landed the best punch but those elbows could not have felt good

Posted by Clark75 on March 04, 2009 at 11:17 PM

Posted by jjhawksjj on March 06, 2009 at 10:41 AM

Wow... What a great fight. One of the better scraps I've seen this year. Toe to toe. Neither guy trying to wrestle the other to the ground. Neither guy content with just hugging and holding. Great toe to toe action and the crowd goin' nuts. Spirited old time hockey at its best. I gave it a draw as both guys had their fair share of throws, hits, and misses. Nice work boys!

Posted by crashandbang on March 04, 2009 at 01:49 PM

That was a great fight. Man can that Janssen go and go. I scored it a draw as both landed some good shots

Posted by smikey35 on March 04, 2009 at 08:04 AM

this fight proves why detroit needs to keep downey and get rid of mccarty

Posted by mike563 on March 06, 2009 at 10:26 PM

what a battle

Posted by 2probert4 on March 06, 2009 at 01:33 PM

Both guys took a beating from the other one, went back and forth, no hugging like Donald Brashear does, just 2 guys dropping the mitts and having a dance..... Great fight....

Posted by Bigford83 on March 04, 2009 at 02:44 PM

See, this is why I like the middleweights better than the heavyweights. They're smaller so they don't have as much of their own weight to lug around, and it shows when the fights go longer, like this one. Also, they don't kill one another with heavy haymakers like the heavies sometimes do. And they tend to have better balance, probably because they're that much shorter. I'll take a good middleweight scrap over a monster heavyweight bout any day of the week.

Posted by BigRob1 on March 04, 2009 at 06:24 PM

This was a great middle weight fight. Don't get much better then that.

Posted by cmshort11 on March 05, 2009 at 11:42 PM

Homer announcers, good scrap but i give the edge to Downey.

Posted by cannondale on March 04, 2009 at 10:01 PM

all 'you people' who tout BGL as the best fighter in the league can go flog your rooster (which you'll probably do anyway)!!! bgl is a fighter but he is essentially a lamborghini whcih is intended to be a daily driver. it spends most of the time in the shop being fixed/repaired (gee, BGL hasn't played except as of late for over 3 months) and has limited usefulfness when the going gets tough. and just how entertaining is the guy, any how???? janssen has been extremely impressive during his last 3-4 outings....all should mkae it to the best of 2008-2009 voting. he is t'he man' in the league right, sorry colton orr.

Posted by Sam1410 on March 04, 2009 at 12:58 AM

Draw in a fantastic bout! Wings fans should be very happy that they have a guy back that can throw them.

Posted by tattooedkingpin on March 04, 2009 at 11:13 AM

Great fight. Great to have Downey up from Grand Rapids. Downey took some major shots but never went down and never gave up. Draw

Posted by neiljc on March 05, 2009 at 01:31 PM

That's a ten right there. Textbook. Draw.

Posted by stich on March 04, 2009 at 02:04 AM

I am a Red Wings fan and I will give the edge to Janssen in a great brawl! It is an absolute fact that Detroit is better with Downey in the lineup and Chris Chelios has said that more than once. The Red Wings are going to need him in the line-up as games get more physical with the playoffs not far off.

Posted by dickpoundbrown on March 04, 2009 at 12:18 PM

Beat em down DowneY! This should be in contention for fight of the year, although I don't believe it is. Carcillo Dorsett and the first Godard Cote fight were better.

Posted by Moose7602 on March 04, 2009 at 01:21 PM

Doesn't seem fair to try to pick a winner from that. It was a decent scrap, I was thinking the same thing as azjim.

Posted by moranm58 on March 06, 2009 at 01:15 PM

Posted by Rex from MN on March 04, 2009 at 10:34 AM

It kept looking like Janssen would land the KO, especially by uppercut, but Downey played great defense and , while clearly more tired, earned the draw with the flurry at the end. Great middleweight battle! Wings still need a heavyweight.

Posted by igalriga on March 04, 2009 at 01:27 AM

now that is a hockey fight

Posted by brianfaucett03 on March 05, 2009 at 01:28 PM

I got to see this one live and man did it look painful, not so much the hits but the stamina. It was great though the crowd would be silent while they were tangled up and then as soon as Janssen would land one the whole place lit up. This is why hockey is the best spectator sport of all time.

Posted by crosscheck52 on March 04, 2009 at 07:06 AM

I can understand the votes for either fighter. Great fight, and I gave it a draw.

Posted by deerslayertx on March 04, 2009 at 08:39 AM

Great fight...if anyone claims downey or jannsen a winner than your are a tool. This was an outright draw. Hell of a fight. Way to go boys...that is how it is done!

Posted by beantown389 on March 04, 2009 at 06:26 PM

Great fight

Posted by mcminn2000 on March 30, 2010 at 09:00 PM

it was close this one went one went on forever

Posted by iflynk on March 04, 2009 at 09:28 AM

Not a lot of punches landing but the duration and the stamina of these two was the highlight. Janssen appeared to be more tired and Downey with a little more aggression - slight edge Downey.

Posted by hal29 on March 04, 2009 at 08:39 AM

big win for downey here, landed more, but landed some serious serious bombs at the end.janssen barely landed many at all

Posted by stokis1736 on March 05, 2009 at 02:46 PM

good fight

Posted by Blackhawk23 on March 04, 2009 at 01:29 AM

win Downey but close, great fight as per with Downey. Good showing by both guys.

Posted by curly on March 04, 2009 at 01:51 AM

Good to see a fight where the two actually go the full distance rather than one just turtling 15 seconds in. Yeah one helmet came off but no real opportunity for downey to remove his except before the fight. Nice work to both for the extra effort that went into this long fight.

Posted by Boatman2089 on March 03, 2009 at 10:38 PM

Downey Time!!

Posted by 13rocks on March 04, 2009 at 08:48 AM

Good stand up , both guys were good at keeping out of range. But I have to give it to Downey, He definately landed more.

Posted by PA GI Joe on March 04, 2009 at 05:06 AM

Great fight by two willing combatants. Janssen has had some of the longer bouts because he is patient and able to wait for an opportunity. Leaving out the roar of the crowd and the announcers, I would give a very slight edge to Downey just for landing better quality shots, even though Janssen threw a lot more and switched up better. I have to give kudos to the zebra here for helping Downey stay up after he slipped....I think he wanted to see this thing go the distance just as much as us.

Posted by icie0099 on March 05, 2009 at 08:39 AM

Gotta give a slight edge to Downey, but great fight--one of the best all year.

Posted by Belak_Norris on March 04, 2009 at 12:41 PM

Nice to see Downey back! Wings need him if they are going to go anywhere. They need some toughness or teams like Calgary or San Jose will run them into the ground! Close fight but I have to give it to my man from Shelburne, Downey!

Posted by STEVEO74 on March 04, 2009 at 11:11 PM

Great fight!!!! I'll give it to Downey.

Posted by stevkrause on March 05, 2009 at 09:43 AM

Great go, very spirited, marathon fight both landed a few good shots, a couple more by Downey including a very solid one right in the beginning

Posted by puterfreek on March 05, 2009 at 09:20 AM

Almost a draw. Janssen definitely threw more punches but landed very, very few. Downey landed the better, harder punches.

Posted by BigLips on March 03, 2009 at 11:27 PM

I'm a lifelong Red Wings fan, even have season tix. I grew up during the good old days of Probie/Kocur. The Red Wings need to play Downey more to give him more offensive/defensive confidence. Once he has this he will be a great addition to the club. I will also tell you that I watch every Red Wings game on TV and the only time I've really gotten excited this year to wach them is the two times Downey was in the lineup; the fight tonight made watching worthwile and ALL Red Wings fans will admit this has been missing in our town since McCarty was bought out after the lockout season- he is just not the same. Dump McCarty and keep Downey!!! DRAW.

Posted by KingVincenzo on March 03, 2009 at 11:38 PM

I wish Aaron was kept on the team, therefore getting more fight time and to stay fresh. Great fight though; Aaron got some good ones, I'm giving him the win.

Posted by Reverend Kane on March 04, 2009 at 03:47 PM

Good scrap, but I do'nt see how this is rated an 8.7 Maybe in terms of length, but quality wise maybe a 6. Not many punches were landing, but entertaining nonetheless.

draw, but a dandy go!

Posted by b.t.wilson on March 03, 2009 at 11:18 PM

I hate Janssen and I love Downey. BUT, Janssen put on a heck of a tilt with Downey here, very entertaining although most punches certainly missed, as both dudes were standing at the end with not a lot of damage to their mugs. But bravo to both, big hats off, Janssen with the edge for landing a few more, called it a 7.

Posted by MajorGroove on March 07, 2009 at 02:10 PM

This fight is a souped up Honda Civic: a lot more show than go. Great stamina from both. Neither wanted to lose. Both took some shots and kept throwing. That said, kinda slow action and lots of misses. Janssen wins it. Can't give it more than a 7. Simply lasting forever doesn't make it great.

Posted by giantsfrey on March 05, 2009 at 05:34 PM

nice long fight... idk how you could call downey a winner in it though :

Posted by pepsigenerate on March 04, 2009 at 12:46 AM

Posted by bluesfaninKY on March 04, 2009 at 11:10 AM

I have to agree with knuckleballs- Downey seemed to want to hug it out in the beginning, Janssen wanted to get away and throw. Slight edge to Janssen. Had any of those wild haymakers landed, it would have made this fight a no-brainer to call.

Posted by thogled on March 04, 2009 at 11:12 AM

Good fight, win janssen, he is a good fighter against people his own size but doesnt fair well against the bigger guys, eg Belak

Posted by Gambino19 on March 04, 2009 at 12:18 PM

Yeah if I heard this on the radio I would have thought blood was covering the ice. A lot thrown, but not as many landed. Nice scrap though. Maybe a draw. I'd go with Janssen if I have to pick.

Posted by tyrone on March 04, 2009 at 10:39 AM

Great fight. Edge Cam. Downey appeared to have more wind at the end.

Posted by cup4theflyers on March 04, 2009 at 01:59 PM

A good tilt. Both guys threw a lot. I give the slight edge to Janssen for bigger punches, but not sure how many landed. Plus, Downey loses points in my mind for the elbows he's throwing early on.

Posted by sporr on March 05, 2009 at 05:13 PM

Great tilt. Slight edge for Janssen for connecting more. Too bad we had to listen to the goof balls!

Posted by blackgoldfan on March 03, 2009 at 11:10 PM

i'll give it to janssen but this was a very entertaining scrap even though a lot of those haymakers missed.

Posted by Towmater on March 04, 2009 at 08:09 PM

Jannsen started slow, almost looked scared but then landed the better shots. Downey was tossing but it looked like Jannsen took most of them on the shoulder.

Posted by Toph27 on March 10, 2009 at 09:30 PM

Posted by brazos on March 04, 2009 at 06:07 PM

I have to give the nod to Janssen, it was a very close fight. One of the better bouts of the season. Very energetic and entertaining as evidenced by the standing ovation they received. I had this one recorded and have watched it in slo-mo. As best as I can tell Downey attempted 29 punches 2 actually hit janssen in the face. Janssen threw 24 punches 3 hit Downey in the face. None of these were KO punches. Good scrap but neither had any distinct advantage.

Posted by Franchise on March 04, 2009 at 09:55 PM

This could be up for FotY if more landed. One hell of a fight, and its nice to see the Wings get somewhat tough. Janssen get the edge here.

Posted by nixu on March 04, 2009 at 11:06 AM

Great fight! Win Janssen landed more and better

Posted by datafortress on March 04, 2009 at 05:08 AM

Wow...awesome fight...slight edge to Cam

Posted by plum29 on March 05, 2009 at 11:48 PM

"i'm getting tired of this", what a joke that hockey announcer is, he should be banned for the rest of the year and visit as part of his suspension. but anyway, great scrap, but i'm going with Cam Janssen with his bigger shots landed. great scrap, clearly, a Fight of the Year candidate.

Posted by Kingdog819 on March 04, 2009 at 01:28 PM

Gonna give the W to Cam here, but a great showing by Downey imo a FOTY candidate

Posted by cuptonj on March 03, 2009 at 10:47 PM

One of the better scraps of the year.Cam Jan wins he landed a few more shots.

Posted by Wensinkfan on March 06, 2009 at 02:25 PM

This might be the best fight I've seen in a while. Great exchanges and single blows from both players. Long fight and it never slowed down! I do think Jannen got the better of it, landing more blows and being more aggressive. Win to Jannen in a great fight.

Posted by duds on March 11, 2009 at 02:00 AM

great fight, love when the crowd gets involved

Posted by mikebflorida on March 04, 2009 at 09:42 AM

Fight of the Year candidate right here. An amazing, grueling battle where I give the win to Jannssen but it was very close. The real winners are Downey who should be kept with the team as a result of this battle, the Red Wing players who finally have an enforcer, and the fans who have been missing this for far to long. I guarantee additional tickets sold as a result of his call up. The Wings are one of the most boring teams in sports to watch even though they are so hockey talented. Fighting makes hockey what it is and Downey changes the whole complexion of the team. Management in Detroit made a terrible mistake playing all year without him or any enforcer even though they are still a good team, the team lost revenue by NOT having a tough guy or two. It aint that hard to figure out and when all hope in Detroit looks lost because of the economy, people turn to sports. Give them what they want!

Posted by boomer belak on March 08, 2009 at 03:25 PM

Best fight of the year. Jannsen known for slow start but lots of late stamina. Downey first ever Ive seen going toe to toe late with Cam., Boomer runs out of gas with Cam.

Posted by jjjakes on March 05, 2009 at 08:28 PM

This fight was great. Two things that stand out for me. First, when the linesman gets behind Downey and holds him up. What the heck was that? Second, Cam is trying to lose the elbow pad and practically flips it directly to the linesman who none the less catches it on the fly. Hilarious! Slightest of edges to Cam based upon quality punches delivered.

Posted by kingpintoo on March 05, 2009 at 01:55 AM

This was a great fight. I was there about 20 rows from the ice right next to the fight. I was sitting next to two Detroit fans. We all agreed it was a 10-9 round for Janssen. Out of the full swing punches, Janssen landed a few more. Downey had more of the rabbit type punches. Both did land a lot in the scheme of things even though they missed alot. It was a long fight. They respected each other, and the linesman even went behind Downey, I think, to keep him from hitting his head as it looked as if he might fall. I think that the league has warned the officials to try to stay close to keep heads from hitting the ice as this is themost dangerous point in these fights.

Posted by Crocosaur on March 10, 2009 at 01:16 AM

God, do I long for the days of the old Norris Division...this will go down as one for the ages. Or at least the season, but man...and as much as it pains me to say this as a Red Wings fan, I'd have to give this one to Janssen as he threw more and landed more from what I saw. Good fight though...and it's always nice to see one of my Wings get into it, win or lose.

Posted by bluesrule08 on March 04, 2009 at 01:04 PM

this was a great fight..i gave the win to janssen and theres no bias behind this i really think he landed the better's pretty much a draw but leaning just a little more towards janssen

Posted by brymaster1 on March 03, 2009 at 10:51 PM

i called this a ten had a little bit of everything

Posted by huskie on March 06, 2009 at 08:23 AM

it should be a draw but I called i win for Janssen because Downey tried a cheap helbow shot during the fight.

Posted by Clowes ABeast29 on March 04, 2009 at 01:55 AM

Janssen with the W

Posted by TIRE TIM on March 08, 2009 at 04:12 PM

draw fun fight i was at the game thought for sure the refs were going to step in hate our announcer john kelley he sucks the crowd was really into this fight . after watching the video i see downey grabbing the jersey and throwing elbows win cam

Posted by JoeBlue on March 04, 2009 at 01:33 AM

Janssen clear win. Controlled the fight from start to finish. To the wing fans who say Downey won and *claim* to actually have counted the punches landed... can you count? Janssen with more punches and more landed. Try actually counting them. Downey knocks Janssen's helmet off with an elbow and doesn't have enough class to take his own off. Janssen has to pull it off after Downey turtles up for a rest. Clear win Janssen.

Posted by JMiller29 on March 04, 2009 at 05:53 PM

Anyone catch the MMA Anderson Silva-like bow/4arms early on by Downey? Great fight though by even combatants...Janssen with the slight edge.

Posted by ChrisNeilKO on March 04, 2009 at 08:13 PM

Posted by Me4dOw on March 03, 2009 at 11:21 PM

Janssen big victory. Both men were tired by Janssen kept pounding Downey.

Posted by knuckleballs on March 04, 2009 at 07:09 AM

Cam gets the win. In my book if you grab the back of a guys jersey (aka HUG) your a loser.

Posted by bilbobaggins on April 07, 2009 at 08:40 AM

Boys fought long and hard. Janssen won with his lefts and got more real shots in. Interesting watching Downey try to use his elbow a couple of times while holding Janssen's sweater. Downey must feel like he plays on a ladie's team.

Posted by Stuntman Mike on March 04, 2009 at 02:11 AM

AWESOME SCRAP!!! Cammy all the way!

Posted by bluebleeder3321 on March 04, 2009 at 08:00 PM

amazing fight

Posted by Shakey Steve on March 25, 2009 at 06:33 PM

Though it pains me, Janssen dominated most of the fight...

Posted by bluesrule on December 05, 2010 at 05:37 PM

janssen landed alot bigger and better blows janssen with a clear W

Posted by thegoalieman on March 04, 2009 at 02:38 AM

You can argue a win to either side, however both in person and in film it appears to me that Janssen lands more punches, certainly several big ones (not to say that Downey didn't). Both players had lots of glances that looked worse in person than on film. No matter what, GREAT long fight- the announcers were biased, but they were right, you got tired just watching them. Now to hope my third row, middle ice pictures of the fight turned out.

Posted by jcstokes on March 04, 2009 at 07:44 AM

DRAW- a lot of missing going on. Great bout though.

Posted by Heavyweight2 on March 04, 2009 at 07:47 PM

Great fight! Draw

Posted by Wild24 on March 06, 2009 at 07:26 AM

This is one hell of a fight. I'd feel bad giving either the win So ill call it a solid draw

Posted by RhonaMitra1 on March 05, 2009 at 08:43 PM

This was a really good fight. Janssen got the early edge, Downey came back with a couple of good shots Both guys were tired at the end A DRAW

Posted by NoobsRUs on March 04, 2009 at 08:06 PM

Posted by FightNight7 on March 06, 2009 at 04:47 PM

now this is a hockey fight! a great draw!!

Posted by gershy101 on March 20, 2009 at 08:34 AM

This fight is rated way better then it should be. Glad to see 2 good guys fight it out but the fight itself isn't anything special except in length and stamina. FOTY... not a chance.

Posted by imissbarnaby36 on March 07, 2009 at 12:39 AM

alot thrown nothin landed pretty entertaining i guess draw

Posted by preds321 on March 03, 2009 at 11:07 PM

not a whole heck of a lot landed in this fight. Both guys were completely gassed halfway through it, especially Downey. Janssen seemed a little more active, but I'd call this a solid DRAW

Posted by oldtimepuck on March 04, 2009 at 10:31 PM

solid tilt, definitely a draw...this announcer is a retard, no idea what is going on, same with most of you gomers that voted for Jansen

Posted by illukka on March 04, 2009 at 12:30 AM

fight of the week calibre ispired bout. i like the way janssen switches hands troughout the fight, gave it a 8 and a draw.. a fight with this much punches thrown and with both combatants still standing is a draw

Posted by chad420 on March 06, 2009 at 11:24 PM

good fight....good wind boys...a draw...a 8

Posted by tiburon4 on March 04, 2009 at 10:16 PM

Elbowed the helmet, ok! Good long scrap, even out on blows: draw.

Posted by Oil Can Henry on March 04, 2009 at 02:16 PM

Very nice fight - was good to see two guys go right at it. I'll call it a draw 'cause I'd hate to say either one lost. Early-on when they were both close-in, however, Downey started throwing hard elbows and forearms ( not very ethical ).

Posted by goody72 on June 02, 2009 at 06:08 PM

A draw. Small edge could go to Janssen, but I still call it a draw.

Posted by philabronc on March 05, 2009 at 08:39 PM

This is the fight of the year!

Posted by ramses22 on March 08, 2009 at 09:57 AM

Both landed some good shot I rule it a draw.

Posted by bigwilly37 on March 08, 2009 at 05:30 PM

fight of the year... barring a major bout this one will take the title.. almost a street fight in the beginning.. what a showing by Downey hasn't played much but definitely can still keep up!

Posted by muddy83 on March 05, 2009 at 12:23 AM

Wow that was a pretty good one. Both landed solid blows. I thought it was going to be a hug fest at first. Turned out to be probably one of the best fights this season between a couple middleweights.

Posted by kitcarnut on March 04, 2009 at 03:28 AM

even steven

Posted by bloodchurn on March 04, 2009 at 07:30 PM

I think Janssen landed more but I had to call it a draw for both guys standing in there and not giving up. Best fight ive seen all year.

Posted by marinermoose38 on March 03, 2009 at 11:31 PM

The homer fans and overzealous announcer skew the perception of what actually happened in this fight. Both landed some shots, no doubt, but watch closely and you'll see Downey definitely lands more, especially in the 2nd half. It was somewhat close, but this is a win for Downey!

Posted by TrueBlue26 on March 04, 2009 at 01:20 PM

red wings? fight? what? ne way wow what a fight toe to toe...nice long spritted bout good stuff draw in the end

Posted by tomales2 on March 04, 2009 at 11:31 AM

Excellent fight. Hate Janssen. Like Downey. Draw, I guess

Posted by perezj on March 05, 2009 at 08:03 AM

I gave it to Downey on a very close fight. These announcers are funny- what fight were they watching?

Posted by stinkygeese on March 03, 2009 at 11:27 PM

Downey is all heart, Janssen has squared off in some pretty good fights all year. Downey being called up from the minors this afternoon and having a two minute fight is very impressive. Give it too Downey on a very close fight, this fight was brewing for years all Heart for Aaron wtg.

Posted by rowdy9769 on March 04, 2009 at 07:26 AM

someone had to stick up for Hossa! great fight!

Posted by oats925 on March 04, 2009 at 01:11 PM

One of the better fights that I've seen this year. Good go by both of them.

Posted by stiri on March 05, 2009 at 07:34 AM

Downey with a tiny edge, good fight

Posted by chinmusic on March 04, 2009 at 11:08 AM

Very close, Downey gets the win. Nice job by Janssen after the fight to showboat in front of the home crowd like a college kid that just slammed his first beer.

Posted by gmr133 on March 04, 2009 at 10:35 AM

Slight edge to Janssen. I haven't seen that many missed punches in the last 20 fights combined.

Posted by piney on December 04, 2009 at 07:16 PM

took a while to get started a good fight deserves a winner Janssen

Posted by azjim on March 04, 2009 at 03:18 AM

Janssen landed more but neither landed as many as the announcer said. It's good to see guys punch without falling.

Posted by snowave on March 04, 2009 at 03:21 PM

Is Janssen considered a God since he is a STL native? I bet so.. and with good reason. I love the guy. anyway, great fight. John Kelly is not exactly the most unbiased announcer. He has a lonnnng history with STL. W Janssen. with a few more solid connects.

Posted by pynkfloid3 on March 04, 2009 at 04:51 PM

two things.....isnt elbowing illegal? watch the tape at about a minute in, downey lands 2 good elbows. second the ref catch the elbow pad from janssen, now thats effieciency. give the edge to janssen all downey wanted to do was grab cam's collar. he is a hugger still just like he was with the blues

Posted by BigBadBruins68 on March 04, 2009 at 01:53 PM

Very good fight, extremely slight win for Janssen.

Posted by dfergin on March 06, 2009 at 12:34 PM

GREAT FIGHT BOYS!! That, my friends, is how it is done. Nice work both of you fellas!

Posted by mokan33 on March 03, 2009 at 11:39 PM

Just what the Wings need, some toughness. Add a few 4th line grinders and they just might be more entertaining to watch. Gotta give Janssen the win

Posted by toogood21 on March 04, 2009 at 08:27 PM

Best fight of the year. Nice to see Detroit actually having a fighter in the lineup for once

Posted by JoMilla on March 06, 2009 at 07:30 PM

This fight was close, but jansen clearly won.

Posted by dogthedevilfan on November 05, 2009 at 10:24 PM

downey threw too many elbows

Posted by werk22 on March 04, 2009 at 11:48 AM

All of Downey's early punches are to the back of Cam's head and the majority of those are when Cam is taking his elbow pad off and isnt defending himself at all. Downeys shots to Cam's face are not until the end when they are dead tired and are ineffective. Cam has more shots to his face. Best fight I've seen in a long time! And very close. Slight edge to Cam.

Posted by sjovocop55 on March 05, 2009 at 10:55 AM

Great fight by both player!!!!

Posted by Rick16 on March 04, 2009 at 08:42 PM

unbelievable scrap... edge janssen with a few more bombs but big respect to both guys for throwing and taking good punches throughout the bout fight of the year candidate

Posted by psycho87 on March 04, 2009 at 03:43 AM

crap fight. pure hugfest. nothink really landed. i rated it 1. i wanna se stortini.

Posted by stume04 on March 04, 2009 at 09:06 AM

I have to give this fight to Janssen. I think he landed more punches and Downey was fighting dirty in the beginning when he was throwing some elbows
