I don't like or dislike Dion Phaneuf. When guys are aggressive physical players they will mis-time hits. I think that the announcer were somewhat accurate in the description of Umberger turning his back and Phaneuf letting up on the hit (Phaneuf can really put a hit on a guy. If he goes full speed on this one, he would have really hurt Umberger badly). Also, Phaneuf immediately turns around as if he was indicating, " I may have screwed this one up, so I am willing to fight to make amends." I don't remember Phaneuf being involved in tons of dirty plays like a guy like Bryan Marchment.

I don't want to blame the victim too much. Umberger was the victim of that sucker pass when he was in Philly and now this. Is he the kind of player that puts himself in harms way because he has his head down too much? I don't know. I haven't seen him play all that much.

Hit seemed legit, as the puck was there, but, BJ, or RJ, or whatever, was just an awkward distance from the boards. The fight was a snoozy draw.

Dumb hit, that should be a couple games in my opinion. I love the big hits but his head was going to hit the glass no matter what. Great job by Methot to step in and TCB.

not much of a fight after a hit from behind

not as cheap of a hit as i originaly thought. methot still does the right thing but not enuff for a w from me. nothing landed but a glancing blow so i say against popular vote, draw.

Methot wins whatever fight that was supposed to be. Typical Phaneuf hit from behind, then he hasn't got guts enough to fight.

In anticipation to this evenings rematch, I had to search out this video.
first of all , the fight blew....

on to the hit.....
There was nothing dirty about the boarding.
Unmberger has to protect himself better.
Actually, Dion could have laid him out if he wanted to do so.

Dirty hit by Phaneuf.
Dirty cross check by Regehr later on in the game.

it wasn't a full out splatter job, on the other hand phaneuf had time to pull off, he can't have it both ways, if he wants to be regarded as some kind of intimidating defencive force he needs to expect people to come after him, not just go "oops "win methot

Bad fight, bad penalty. Turning into the boards with a physical guy like Phaneuf bearing down on you is not smart.

I follow the Wild, so listen to the worst homer announcers in the league, but this guy is nuts "it's not a solid hit, Dion just pushes him into the boards".

what a fu*kin crybaby..he didnt even hit him hard...i guess u could call that boarding but maybe it wouldnt be called without umbergers 5 star performance..im compasionate for a guy whose the victim of a dirty hit but that was not a "dirty" hit..ive seen worse hits than that all year long. these guys turn their back to the play when playing the puck, put their head down and then they act like its not hockey and they shouldnt get hit..then they wanna lay on the ice and cry and then someone has to fight over it..if they havent figured it out yet at this level in their career when u get touches ur gonna get hit thats part of the game they should go play golf or somethin non contact!!
