Comments: Right after the puck drops for the faceoff, they shed their gloves and helmets. Richards glides towards Mara and they end up squaring off at the blueline before grabbing ahold of each other. Mara starts things off with three straight rights. Richards returns fire with a right of his own just as they go into the side boards. Mara continues to go with the right, throwing two more and causing Richards to come back with a pair of overhand rights in response. Mara then switches strategies, connecting with three body shots. Richards is able to push Mara off-balance for a moment and they wrestle around for a short moment. Richards gets loose and connects with a right, following that up with a flurry of short overhand rights while Mara is bent over. Mara pushes Richards up against the glass and gets in a right. Mara throws some more rights with Richards responding with two of his own during the series. They eventually stop throwing and allow the linesmen to intervene and end the fight.

Looks like they have a little words before the face-off. The puck drops and both players shed the helmets and gloves and square-off. They grab on and Mara gets off three rights and Richards responds with one of his own. Then they both get up against the boards and Mara gets two more in there and Richards comes back with some of his own. Mara then gets three body punches in on Richards and then they begin to wrestle for a bit. Richards then begins to hit Mara many times with jabs while Mara is bent over in defense. Mara gets Richards back up against the glass and land one more. Mara throws more rights on Richards and Richards is able to respond with some of his own. The tire themselves out and the linesmen come in.

I think Mara won the fight. Landed a couple clean punches and appeared to land more. Whether or not he caused any damage is debatable. Mara is a bigger, stronger guy and the size difference definitely added to his advantage. Good showing by Richards though, and I can't argue if some claim it was a draw.

very good bout...nice build up.....both guys very willing.... took off the helmets and exchanged....with the camera position and the linesman it was tough to see parts of the fight......i would take Richards on my team any day, he gave up size but had no fear.....entertaining fight that was too close to call for me (draw).

Nice spirited scrap. I gotta go draw.

I gave Mara the win by a very slim margin instead of calling a draw. A pretty decent fight. I have always liked Richards and us usual, he didn't dissapoint. Nice that both discarded the helmets. Mara threw more and had the edge in body position etc but Richards got a couple good ones in also.
Very close to a draw. An "edge" to Paul Mara.

huge size disadvantage for richards and he did more than hold his own

I think Richards wins this one in a close one. He landed more than Mara, even though Mara threw more. You gotta love how Richards sheds the helmut/shield before he goes. This guy should wear the C sooner than later.

Richards seemed pretty fired up, I think half of his equipment landed in the parking lot.

This was a really good scrap, and Paul Mara (not known as a fighter) made a very good accounting of himself against a tough, young guy. Mara got three, if not four good shots in on Richards, one which sent Richards reeling backward. Richards got maybe two good shots in on Mara, but he didn't do as much damage, as evidenced by the fact Richards had a pretty good red spot high on his left cheek as he sat in the penalty box...Mara looked unscathed.

The first time I saw it I thought it seemed Mara had a slight edge, but on after a second watch I really think it was a draw and maybe even a very very slim edge to Richards. They both threw some good punches.

Love when they get rid of the helmets, it makes them throw harder...

Good bout, love it when they end up dropping the golves right after the faceoff.

Both also had their chances for the win, so im counting it in as a draw.

Mara,s longer reach proved too much for Richards I give him props for bringing the fight but he is better off doing a better job at picking his spots and rivals
