Zenon Konopka falls into Miikka Kiprusoff and the whistle blows to stop play. Away from the crowd, Shelley and Godard find each other and drop the gloves. They square for a short moment and then grab ahold of each other. They start things off by exchanging a couple of rights each. Shelley throws two more rights and an uppercut while Godard tries to get set up. They then go back and forth with rights with each fighter trying to counter the other. Godard gets Shelley bent over and connects with a body shot. Shelley throws a right and Godard loses his balance, going down to his knees for a short moment. Godard gets back to his feet and throws two short rights just before they decide to hold on and wait for the linesmen to come in. Other Penalties: Zenon Konopka received a goaltender interference.

Jody Shelley vs Eric Godard

The Blue Jackets are getting beat 2-0, and Jody Shelley challenges Eric Godard to try and change the momentum of the game. The camera is very late at getting to the fight, as Konopka ran into the Flames' goaltender. They each exchange a couple rights to start things off. Shelley attempts a right uppercut, then throws a right that hits the side of Godard's helmet. Shelley then, connects with a solid right, and they each exchange a few more. Shortly after that, Godard connects with a solid right of his own, then starts to lose his balance, but stays up. Godard throws a couple more rights to the back of Shelley's helmet, and the linesmen move in.

Godard has a wicked right, and if it actually connects, it more often than not ends the fight. This one was one of the "connects" bouts. When he tagged Shelley, it was over. From that point on, Shelley fought not to lose worse. Kudos for not going to his knees like Boogaard, though. That's one tough cat to stay on his feet and just hang on.

A couple nice exchanges, but the edge goes to Godard for landing that one last solid shot to the grill.
