Crap fight. Goddard is a useless goon and Gilles is a useless human being. Why was the game "clean " after that? Engelland and Rupp were still on the bench. Things went crazy last game because they were both tossed early for nothing. Who are the Isles going to cheap shot on the 8th green?

Posted by yngblonde1 on April 09, 2011 at 09:19 AM

Gillies is a retarded goon..Never would make it on a real hockey team..The Isles show their class having an idiot on their team like that..Then again their team sucks so a goon/clown is their only thing to cheer about..As for Goddard..He will be in another uniform next year..I hope he is better where ever he ends up..

Everyone knew this bout was coming since the Feb game between Pit /NYI. Gillies the clear winner in this bout. Love Godard, though.

Posted by dapwas20 on April 08, 2011 at 10:33 PM

Gillies with a clear win.

Posted by Caracalla on April 08, 2011 at 09:01 PM

Gillies a clear winner? I say a clear waste of a fight. I give neither of them credit except for maybe a good disco display. They both looked like crap in that fight. I have never seen people throw more wasted punches at the air and pads and everywhere but on the button. And for all of you who are going to say he landed a bunch of them, then he must be a real weenie then if he couldn't KO him being as big as he is. Gillies looks like a chimp when he's getting ready to scrap and acts like a total ass after most of them(his wannabe evil stare and big mouth, give me a break)and Godard, who I actually like his sprotsmanship, can't stay on his feet to save his life there. What a waste of bench space. Gotta learn to keep your eyes open when you throw punches guys, you might land a few more and better ones at that. NHL fighting is pathetic these days. Kocur and Twist need to start training these guys how to punch and land punches with some real impact. Oh the good 'ol days!

Win Gilles. Godard in his prime would win. Gilles is just was hockey doesn't need anyway. He's a punk. I was hoping Martin or Haley would fight Godard or at least Asham. They couldn't find the agitator type opponent. Can't wait for them to fight an actual enforcer!

Posted by Leafs2006 on April 08, 2011 at 11:44 PM

Gillies.....second biggest P.O.S in the league........

Posted by MikeVee on April 09, 2011 at 12:10 AM

Guess nobody here actually follows the season. Didn't anyone else notice Godards attempt to keep his side of the face with the recently broken orbital bone away from any punches . Never kept his balance with the awkward stance. Geez

Posted by upyours on April 08, 2011 at 09:58 PM

Gillies is nothing more than a minor league bush p*u*s*s*i*e. He is minor league hack playing for a minor league team. Eric Godard should have shown him his Stanley Cup ring while Gillies was flapping his jaws to the minor league fans he plays for.

Posted by PENGUINSCUP09 on April 08, 2011 at 11:51 PM

An injured Godard vs a career GOON. No surprise here....

Posted by mcb798 on April 08, 2011 at 11:53 PM

eric godard manhandled gillies.

Posted by RedWings=Trash on April 08, 2011 at 08:52 PM

Congratulations to Gillies for winning his first fight all season. Smart move by the refs for tossing him before he does some goon crap.

Posted by slavv on April 10, 2011 at 03:59 PM

Expected much, much more here. Godard looked like he borrowed George Parros' skates for this fight...

Posted by pepsigenerate on April 09, 2011 at 10:09 AM

gillies with the win, woulda been a good bout between Gillies and Engelland, come on Godard you can fight better then that.

Posted by antonio106 on April 08, 2011 at 10:13 PM

Meh. Crap fight.

Posted by nbecc1 on April 09, 2011 at 08:12 AM

LOVE IT Gillies with easy win

Posted by Behn Wilson on April 10, 2011 at 12:33 AM

Gillies kept squirming, and eventually managed to out-point, a lethargic looking, Goddard with both fists, and a series of takedowns. Not at all what I expected.

Posted by mr hockey on April 08, 2011 at 11:10 PM

win for Giles

Posted by lb1631 on April 09, 2011 at 05:00 PM

Goddard was horrible. This guy is a heavyweight? That mongrol Gillies with the win here.

Posted by staceyb on April 09, 2011 at 06:53 AM

Godard looked indifferent--I first used lethargic but saw brother Behn Wilson already used the word.

Posted by sulley71 on April 08, 2011 at 11:53 PM

Wow, Godard has really lost it!

Posted by sedinfan on April 08, 2011 at 10:16 PM

Gillies with the easy win, Godard sure doesn't seem to have it anymore.

Posted by saapgh on April 09, 2011 at 11:01 AM

Godard sleepwalked through this tilt. He hasn't been the same since having his orbital busted.

Posted by PAfightsfan on April 09, 2011 at 08:39 PM

Uhm...to all you Islander fans who have commented that Goddard comes to the Island to get his ass kicked...you must have forgotten that Goddard clearly beat Gillies that last time in the crazy game.....check out the fight and the vote.....jack#[email protected]

Posted by clipper98 on April 09, 2011 at 10:43 PM

Good fight. Some haymakers !!

Posted by johnnyrock555 on April 10, 2011 at 03:35 PM

Gillies is the best fighter in the league.

Posted by bortinithegreat on April 09, 2011 at 01:14 AM

Remove the letters "god" from godard. Washed up. No defense vs. lefties. Rupp does a better job at this point.

Posted by Jobro815 on April 08, 2011 at 11:22 PM

Completely unexpected, a younger Godard would have made paste of Gillies. No animosity to G-man, loved his days on the Island, he just looked like he was sent in and didn't really want to be there. Gillies knew it might come down to this, and completely made the most of his marquee opportunity. Bet he was secretly glad to be the man in and not Michael Haley. Hope Colin Campbell doesn't suspend him for this lol......

Posted by njteech on April 09, 2011 at 08:00 AM

Islanders's guy wins easy.......

Posted by DARCY T on April 09, 2011 at 12:41 PM

godard took it too cautiously.kinda easy win gillies...gave it 6

Posted by tattooedkingpin on April 08, 2011 at 07:47 PM

I love it!!! W Gillies.

Posted by bruins rule on April 08, 2011 at 09:16 PM

gillies gets the win in this fight.

Posted by cardac on April 09, 2011 at 08:15 AM

I agree that although some of the statements about Godard, his recently smashed orbital, last fight etc all may or may not have anything to do with this fight, the undebateable reality is Godard was destroyed i this fight. Keep in mind the fight was mutual off a center-ice draw, not defending a late hit, cheap hit etc so not sure I buy the counter argument. Godard would be unlikely to accept the fight or frankly even be dressed going into the playoffs by his coach if he was able to hold up. Gillies has not gotten his due respect as a fighter at this point. He has been dominant when he's been dressed. Cheers!

Posted by hellawaits77 on April 08, 2011 at 11:38 PM

Close, but that P.O.S. Gillies wins w/ the nice connection at the end. Godard not dressing at all lately definately seems to have hurt him.

Posted by GreatMurray on April 09, 2011 at 10:00 AM

Goddard never got going. I would rather have seen Engelland go with Gillies...would have been a better fight and a different outcome.

Posted by Spoonster on April 08, 2011 at 10:07 PM

Wow, I was expecting a better show from Godard. This was a fight you gotta know he has been thinking about and wanting since the big brawl 2 months ago. Gillies with the DOMINATING win.

Posted by Aryan83 on April 29, 2011 at 07:29 AM

Nice bout, good performance by Gillies against Godard. Wouldn`t expect that before;)

Posted by Mackyboy on April 09, 2011 at 08:49 AM

Gillies dominated this one.

Posted by canamrugby on April 11, 2011 at 01:04 AM

Wow, Godard got his butt kicked. Did he put his feet up during his 10-game suspension or what?

Posted by ETR on April 08, 2011 at 09:22 PM

Current Islander beats the ex Islander

Posted by billy jack on April 08, 2011 at 08:00 PM

godard wasnt fighting like he was mad as hell, gillies tuned him in.i thought godard was really pumped for this?guess not.

Posted by Don Gorgon on April 09, 2011 at 09:22 AM

Godard flopped.

Posted by ogie ogiltorpe on April 10, 2011 at 01:20 AM

wow, Gillies handled Godard easily in this one... I agree 100% with kbelanger regarding Bettman/Campbell and Boston

Posted by C-7Enforcer on April 09, 2011 at 01:25 AM

Enough goddamn excuses for Godard already! If he couldn't fight he wouldn't! He is trying to protect the orbital bone, but again if he is willing tough shit. Also when he jumps Rosehill for hitting Crosby then punches him in the back of the end while down and breaks his nose it was way to go Godard!! So f u c k Godard, he got his ass kicked fairly, deal with it!!!

Posted by AZfromNJ on April 09, 2011 at 09:17 PM

Goddard would have whipped Gillies in his prime. Goddard just too old. Excuse, excuse, excuse sad PP fans. Goddard is 31, Gillies is 32.

Posted by totmacher on April 09, 2011 at 12:53 PM

Really wanted to see more from Godard. Honestly wanted to see him pound the snot out of Gillies. But Gillies walks away (to the locker room... wtf is up with that...) with a stuipdly easy win. Really not a big fan of Gillies, but he answered to the call and sent Godard packing.

Posted by ironbar44 on April 08, 2011 at 09:31 PM

so much for GODARD beating the crap out of GILLIES .all GILLIES, im sure there will be contrary statements to provoke arguements, from guys not knowing the sport .or just hating GILLIES or PENGUINS fans hating .you might read something about goons etc it was just .two enforcers squaring off .GILLIES won this time..next time who knows .

Posted by King of Goons on February 25, 2016 at 12:22 PM

Gillies beats up Goddard and embarrasses him.

Posted by bulldogs on April 08, 2011 at 11:36 PM

Whats up with all the hate for Gillies? The guy dominated all season and Tavares makes the big league scoring team. Hes got Domi circular gravity move, can go with either hand KO power and takes one to give one. Give me a break you god damn yokels.

Posted by scorp1on on April 10, 2011 at 10:06 PM

Guess Godard forgot about the potential for a left left jersey jab. It was all downhill after those.

Posted by Detroit_Caps on April 09, 2011 at 12:44 PM

that was bullshit that they both got tossed. . .I would of liked to see Gillies put more trash on the IR and stand in the tunnel and taunt (that was awesome) nice job at blowing a great game, The rest was terrible to watch. The Hens must of cried to the league every day following the last time.

Posted by pricey77 on April 09, 2011 at 09:46 AM

Hey yngblonde1, your real tough behind a computer. I bet you can't even skate, you retard. Why don't you go stick a plunger in your ass, then go buy a pair of glasses. Gills is as tough as anyone in the league, he's an amazing skater and has very hard to get where he is. Your a fuckin retard and you really make all of us that come on this site feel shame.

Posted by neologizer on April 08, 2011 at 10:59 PM

I feel bad for Godard, he's had a rough season against the Islanders

Posted by jbaktai on April 08, 2011 at 11:50 PM

We'll happy to see Gillies with the win, for people saying why is he in the nhl? Thats the reason. Was pure domination but either a good showing by gillies or a bad showing by godard. Love seeing pens get beat up

Posted by kbelanger33nyi on April 09, 2011 at 06:21 PM

GILLIES, (the player who Bettman,Campbell,The referees have made their whipping boy, when there have been so many worse incidents than the ones he was involved in, that have gone unpunsihed, the guy they make an example out of every time they can) WITH THE WIN. Bettman/Campbell/Refs-the NHL will always be a joke because of the way you run it. You pick your favorites and that is that, nothing is ever fair...here's to the Islanders and the other dis-respected teams around the league-sticking up for themselves. Someones gotta do it. You suck at life. Boston Bruins smartest team for signing Campbells Son. The team gets away with murder. Lucic cross check to moore's face, Chara's attempt to end paccioretti's career-all UNPUNISHED! Gillies would have been awaitng the electric chair. HEY ICEBREAKER-Guess you had bad seats and didnt see ENGLAND get his ass up ended by Haley. England real tough-he didnt even do anything to Haley. had the whole game to go after him but pussed out.

Posted by hydr4 on April 09, 2011 at 01:01 AM

Looks like when Godard fights an Islander straight up, he gets his ASS KICKED

Posted by Boone2511 on April 08, 2011 at 09:10 PM

Bad fight..draw without a doubt and gilles didn't get tossed just a 5 + 10

Posted by icebreaker2 on April 09, 2011 at 09:36 PM

Big Pens fan here but in all fairness I gotta give the edge to Gillies. We were on the glass for the game and while it was far from a great fight Godard really did nothing to even get him a vote in my opinion. That being I got a chance to see Gillies up close and personal and it confirmed what I already thought, he's a low life piece of crap. A guy next to me yelled at him and he zones in on the guy and starts wagging his tongue and making crazy faces. He looked like a cross between the WWE and KISS and definately represent his team well. Lastly it's interesting to note that once again none of the Islander's band of tough guys skates anywhere near Engle who is the new tough guy in Pittsburgh. kbelanger33nyi Of course I saw the hit, you mean the late one where the puck was gone and Haley hit him low, that one right? Not quite sure how a cheap shot qualifies as standing up to someone and challenging them to a fight but maybe that's how it works in your world. By the way it's Engelland, he's a defenseman not a country. Your're obviously an Islander fan so maybe you could explain the Crosby sucks chant late in the 3rd Period of a very close and entertaining hockey game. What does have to do with anything at that point. So the Pens open the Playoffs in Pittsburgh and the Isles open at Bethpage Black where they haven't missed an April tee-time in years. Have a good round!!

I like the respect tap from Gillies, Not a great bout. But it will do. Win Gillies.
