Decent scrap. I can't help but get nauseated seeing Brashear in a Rangers sweater.

Posted by spartan2001 on September 25, 2009 at 08:49 AM

BearHug brashear strikes again. Hold on, shake your opponent, after they lose their balance give him a few shots. This scumbag has made a career out of doing that. It seems though he wasn't able to do it as well as he has in the past. I'm not sure if he hasn't recovered from getting KO'd late last year or if he is just getting older. I predict this scumbag will be getting his ass kicked a lot this year from some of the big names like Godard, Orr, Boogaard, Belak. etc.

Posted by wcapsfan8 on September 29, 2009 at 08:12 PM

nothing more than a draw. how in the world can you give brashear the win when all the punches he landed were on the back of sugdens head. just because you like a fighter doesn't mean he gets the win. try and be alittle objective please and stop giving the win to someone who doesnt deserve it

Posted by Mike Kole on September 25, 2009 at 08:35 AM

Nothing decisive there. Nice scrap.

Posted by JABUSHFSU on September 25, 2009 at 06:37 PM

good fight - had him at the start - brasher had it at the end- sugden was smart at the end knowing he had nothing to hold/grab on after brasher jersey was off. for the people who dont know what i'm talking about. brasher could just hold sugden and swing away. sugden would have just thrown off balance punches while brasher pull him in direction of his punches . smart move . draw

Posted by the_collector on September 27, 2009 at 09:51 AM

Sugden gets his in earlier and Brash carries it late. The Donald had better keep his head up if a kid can go with him this far.

OneilltheGiant get a life.

Poor Brandon....waits all this time for his one big chance to make it to the bigs and become a legend in his own mind as a true heavyweight and he goes and loses to a guy 6 years older who is beat more than he wins. He should thank his therapist it wasn't Boogard or he wouldn't even be back in the AHL.

HUGFEST until Brashear lets loose

Posted by Riomouse911 on September 27, 2009 at 01:11 AM

DB wins 10-9 with the end flurry. On a side note, I swear huggy bear has conceived more kids on the ice than any 12 fighters combined. I was waiting for the bow-chikka-bow-wow music to start. He has a great punch, he needs to use it.

Brash win, whit a great Stamina and beat the young Sugden,.

Posted by Gaetz23 on September 24, 2009 at 11:08 PM

Sugden looked good early, but Brashear finished strong to get the win.

Posted by bloodyknuckles2 on September 25, 2009 at 04:43 AM

nothing too special. edge brash

Posted by chaserboy29 on September 26, 2009 at 01:00 AM

Anyone else think the booing that Brash will certainly get fron the NYR fans will maybe stop the hugging?? I bet he opens it up for awhile, especially at home, to win them over.

Posted by mrfnavy24 on September 25, 2009 at 09:59 AM

No one wants to read your novel OneilltheGiant. Brashear won even though I hate him.

Posted by Bruins29 on September 25, 2009 at 09:55 AM

Sugden had things going early on...but Brashear had the stamina and dominated the later "rounds". Brashear with the win in a good battle.

Posted by royjonesjr on September 26, 2009 at 04:14 PM

Pretty good fight between one of the best from the pros Brashear and one of the best from the LNAH/AHL Sugden. Sugden had the advantage for a lot of the fight as he landed a few unanswered to start the fight and then exchanged punches in tight back and forth with Brashear, Sugden connecting on a couple more. Brashear though now looked pissed and disperate in tight with Sugden having such a good hold on him that he escaped his jersey and once he got it off fully he began to t-off a bit on Sugden who clinched Brashear's arms and allowed the linesmen to step in. Win for Brashear for the dominating finish to the fight.

Posted by Maxwerm on September 25, 2009 at 02:56 PM

Hugden with a slight edge in round 1, Brash round 2. Kinda surprised BS came back for seconds. If I were him, I would have been happy with not losing any teeth in the first fight.

Posted by Snot-Bubbler on September 25, 2009 at 10:56 AM

The reason why Brash comes on late is that he waits for his opponent to tire out. Then he unloads his lefts.............that's why he bear hugs. Plus he is old for fighting standards........they should have kept Orr, he played hard for them and earned his new contract. If Brash is worth the 2 plus they are paying him, then why did the Caps with the best player in the league get rid of him? Just a thought.

Sugden early Brash with good finish

Posted by Macktownknights on September 25, 2009 at 12:58 AM

Brash with the win...Did Sugden get an Instigator???? his gloves were of like 5 or 6 seconds before Brash even knew about it!

Posted by doaner99 on September 25, 2009 at 05:06 PM

first of all brash is not stupid.. would you want to get in a slugfest with sugden??? im not a big brashear fan just saying.. hate him or love him.. he still wins more than he loses

Posted by big10drup8787 on September 25, 2009 at 03:40 PM

Brashear earned some points with the Ranger fans for this one. Win for Donald.

Posted by Jaggedjaws on September 25, 2009 at 06:08 PM

Hey Ranger fans give Brashear a break, no Ranger fan wanted to see Orr go including myself but Brashear is a legitamate heavy weight that will be a good team player. He'll be hard to root for at first but you'll learn to like him. I never thought I would be able to accept Rich Pilon when he became a Ranger.

Posted by T800m101 on September 25, 2009 at 12:32 PM

Sugden landed a few at the start, but he eventually got tired and Brashear started to really pound him.

Posted by Juha82 on September 28, 2009 at 01:49 PM

Sugden was good but Brash was great., Long battle. Brash outlanded his opponent. NARROW WIN D.Bradsher

Posted by BooSanta on September 26, 2009 at 10:05 PM

Sudge ran out of gas eafter the intial hugfest. Huggy takes the rematch

Posted by jlmcgui on September 25, 2009 at 08:47 AM

When will Brashear retire ... or just leave the game? Give Brash the edge with more thrown and landed.

Posted by MonkeyQuatro on September 25, 2009 at 08:00 PM

Brashear got some skating lessons and stayed on his feet. Sugden got a few good shots in the beginning, but Brashear came back and had a few more shots by the end.

Posted by crosscheck52 on September 25, 2009 at 07:55 AM

Sugden early, and nearly had my vote, but Brashear dominated the final ten seconds. Edge to Brashear.

Posted by Brujo on September 25, 2009 at 08:26 PM

Good Fight for Brash, still has a litle left

Posted by mightyquin on September 30, 2009 at 08:25 PM

sugen starts the fight then he realizes he was in over his head, then he just tries to hang on, brash good work on getting and letting fist flybrash for the win

Posted by EDDUBBS on September 25, 2009 at 05:33 AM

After wrestling and positioning Brashear dominates the bout with that strong left.

Posted by OneilltheGiant on September 25, 2009 at 04:50 AM

Early in the 3rd period Sugden who is eager to impress his bosses at Washington skates up to Brashear and challenges him.. Sugden then drops his gloves and at first Brashear follows the puck and the play, but he then realises that Sugden has dropped the gloves and Brashear quickly follows suit. Again they skate about for a second or two sizing each other up before Brashear shoots in and this time gets a good grip on Sugden. Sugden then throws a short right hand to start the fight, before throwing another two rights at Brashear a few seconds later. These early punches are only glancing blows but all three look to of landed. Brashear then threw a right hand back at Sugden but it fell short and Sugden landed a solid looking counter right and just missed with a second right hand. Brashear then quickly came in tight and tied Sugden up in a clinch. After a bit of grappling both guys landed a few short punches each from the clinch and then after some more grappling Brashear was able to come out of his jersey giving him an advantage. The lino's think about coming in and stopping the fight but Brashear started to throw and land some left hands so they let them continue to fight. Brashear landed three lefts on Sugden and Sugden quickly backed away from Brashear before he was then able to tie the new Rangers enforcer up in a clinch. Sugden looked tired at this stage and Brashear was clearly starting to get the upper hand. Brashear then threw and landed a couple of swinging left hands to the back of Sugden's head and then threw and landed a few short left hooks to the side of Sugden's face as well. Brashear was clearly in control now and threw a few more left hooks before switching and attempting a couple of right uppercuts as he controlled Sugden against the boards. Brashear then was able to free his right hand fully from his jersey and Brashear threw another two punches at Sugden landing the first and missing the second. Sugden then attempted to land right hand but this fell short and Brashear switched his grip on Sugden and threw some big left upper cuts and a couple of over hand lefts at the Caps tough guy. Sugden then made sure he grabbed a hold of Brashear tightly so Brashear could not throw any more punches at him and the lino's came in to end the fight. This fight turned into a marathon bout with Sugden getting the upper hand early on with some nice straight right hands. But as soon as Brashear got inside and tied Sugden up he came back into the fight. The turning point was when Brashear got out of his jersey and Sugden took quite a few heavy punches near the end of the fight and was looking to be in trouble at the end before the lino's stopped it. This is a clear win to Brashear in my opinion for dominating the second half of this fight and having Sugden in trouble at the end.. Clear win Brashear.

Posted by bostonrs555 on September 25, 2009 at 12:34 AM

Now this is more like it, let's go!!!! Sugden gets beat up..... It's back to cleaning gutters for the Sug-Pump....... How much to walk my dog?!?!?!

Posted by GodBlessTheAmen on September 24, 2009 at 11:32 PM

win to brashear

Posted by rangers16 on September 26, 2009 at 02:09 PM

Great scrap. This kid Sugden is the next NHL heavy weight the kid can really throw em. very very close fight

Posted by GooseLoonies on September 25, 2009 at 08:56 AM

Brashear came close to netting a goal before he dropped 'em.

Posted by tyrone on September 24, 2009 at 11:01 PM

Sugar goes 2-0. Much better punches; Brazeer is a has-been.

Posted by ryptide on September 24, 2009 at 10:56 PM

Advantage Sugden, but only just. I think Brashear lost a step when he got dropped like a bad habit by Belak last year.

Posted by gdameo on September 25, 2009 at 10:52 AM

oneillthegaint - are you going to write this long? write a book on every fight? who do you think you are? a reporter or analyzer for ESPN?

sugden beats brashear again in this fight.

spartan2001 hit the nail on the head.

Posted by Dovermv on September 25, 2009 at 07:57 PM

Easy to win a fight when your opponent does not have anything to hold on to and you can have a great hold. Without Brashear not having his jersey untied he never has a chance in this fight.

Posted by bruiseyoureye on September 25, 2009 at 10:58 AM

sugden beats brashear to a pummle again.

Posted by lightning101 on September 25, 2009 at 08:48 AM

This was a match of who can undress who the fastest. Brashear just wants to hug people, he never steps back and goes toe to toe.

Posted by insanity_plea on September 25, 2009 at 12:05 PM

Garbage... Brash likes the hugging... If he stands toe to toe he loses. He instigates the hugging and he finishes with hugging. He will get dominated this year.

Posted by idiotstupid2002 on September 26, 2009 at 10:05 AM

Two fights between these two = two crap-fests. Brashear with the narrow win though.

Posted by gmr133 on September 25, 2009 at 06:31 PM

Why the second by second review? There is video here. That being said, this was a crap fight. Not much really landed. Sugden is a footnote. Brashear is a scumbag end of story. A mediocre fighter with some strength but who is way overrated -- basically a hugger--obvious in this fight. Him wearing a Rangers jersey is a joke. Real Ranger fans won't accept it, and never accepted Pilon either.

You don't see the jerseys come off that much these days, nice bit of nostalgia. Win Brash.

suqar early....brash later for the win...solid 7.......keep sugar up caps!

Posted by Defence4Life on September 25, 2009 at 02:47 AM

Brashear with the win, would that count as a rope-a-dope?

Posted by Rex from MN on September 28, 2009 at 04:55 PM

Early on I thought Brash was looking over the hill, but Sugden didn't go for the KO when he had the jersey over the head, and Brash shows he's still got stamina to win a good tilt. This is awesome to see the Rangers loaded for bear! Brash and Orr and throw in the other new big guy. Gabby and the others (uh, do they have any other scorers?) will have all the room they need. Philly's trio of middleweights will be like child's play for them. Maybe they'll mercifully cut Cote before he commits suicide by fighting.
