Lomberg asked for it and he got it. ...Bad. Good for Johnston. You can't let that go unanswered. Anybody who's followed Johnston in the A, knows he'll fight anybody or anything that skates, walks or crawls. Nor does it take much to get him to drop the mitts (let alone some loudmouthed little clown like Lomberg chirping at him and challenging him). Maybe next time Calgary won't send a boy out to do a man's job. TKO - Johnston.

Johnston probably couldnt been a bit less viscious about this one but in all fairness he was getting harassed the play before and was already pissed off. Almost like Lomberg said, “hello sir, i see you are angry...do you want to punch someone?” And Johnston replied, “I certainly do”

@fromo The code? How about Hathaway ducking Johnston seconds earlier...or just a week ago, Hathaway getting away with an elbow, not wanting to answer the bell, then fighting Yanni Gourde. The Flames should be embarrassed they got Lomberg hurt by not stepping up. As far as taking it easy on a guy: 1.) It’s disrespectful 2.) In a bare knuckles fight, anyone has a puncher’s chance.

Lomberg and his "100 pounds soaking wet" frame misguidedly goes looking for trouble and finds it the hard way As Johnston presents a painful alternative to orbital bone reconstruction Courageous if nothing else

Posted by Rangeley_blkbea on February 12, 2018 at 06:39 AM

I think this qualifies as an "ill-advised" bout (on Lomberg's part).

Posted by michro01 on March 03, 2018 at 12:11 PM

This kind of fight is probably why the NHL doesn't want fighting in it. You get some big asshole like this that is almost a foot taller than the guys hes fighting. GJ Johnson, why don't you go beat the shit out of some kids in bantam hockey you degenerate piece of shit.

Posted by canamrugby on February 13, 2018 at 02:13 PM

What was the point of getting beat up?

Posted by rocky 1 on February 12, 2018 at 08:03 PM

What the hell are the Flames thinking. They bring up this Midget so called tough guy when they have Gazdic signed,That is just too funny or stupidity,I,ll let you all figure that one out!

Posted by mr. puttzo on February 12, 2018 at 08:12 AM

Chihuahua vs. Pit Bull. Lomberg challenged Johnston and got his arse kicked. If this is what he has to do to stay in the NHL then it's going to be a short stay.

Love the Lomberg kid for stepping up in weight class and than actually trying to fight! Seriously, give this kid some credit! You saw more of this in the golden era. It wasn't if you won or lost but if you showed up! He will get respect from his teammates for this one. Johnston kid looks really good for todays NHL.

Admirable on lomberg fighting out of his weight class with both guys literally fighting to stay in the NHL. Johnston easily puts him down.

Posted by Robbie1973 on February 13, 2018 at 06:39 PM

I think this is the first time I have actually felt bad for the someone in a fight...except for when Grat's dropped Domi.

Posted by gardsy on February 13, 2018 at 02:53 PM

If only johnston could teach clutterbuck how to not be a limpwristed weasel.

Posted by Vito514 on February 12, 2018 at 12:17 PM

with the amount of tough guys they have in stockton....anyways lomberg does have a face you wana punch really hard. kid has balls though. johnston is a beast and i only hope teams give guys like him more of a chance.

Posted by surfmaster69 on February 13, 2018 at 03:51 AM

Big man uses reach to beat up little rookie. Totally out classed here too. Lomberg matches every Johnston punch with an equal face punch of his own. I didn't know there were vertically challenged people in the NHL these days...Love Puttzo's comment "Chihuahua vs. Pit Bull".

Posted by Nystrom_23 on February 12, 2018 at 11:51 AM

Kudos to shorty challenging a much bigger guy, but that was brutal.

Posted by GreatMurray on February 13, 2018 at 05:44 AM

The little guy asked for the fight...2 for balls. Johnston just pounds the crap out of Lomberg...TKO for sure.

Posted by NAILS13 on February 14, 2018 at 04:52 AM

New Flame snuffed by Islander gusts. Reach is not to blame as much as hubris.

Posted by Fullcontact on February 12, 2018 at 04:42 PM

Well Lomberg gave up 40 lbs, 8 inches to Johnson...and it showed. Teams know Flames don't currently have anyone in the lineup that can come close squaring off with a heavyweight.

Posted by Mkirsch82 on February 12, 2018 at 03:42 PM

Absolute domination

Posted by jcholmes on February 19, 2018 at 05:30 AM

Props to the midget

Posted by AZfromNJ on December 05, 2018 at 02:57 PM

Wow, as good a scrap as you'll see in 2018-2019. Credit to Lomberg for stepping up in weight class and suffered a TKO loss.

Posted by the kid 61 on February 13, 2018 at 06:50 PM

With all the tuff guys they have in Bakersfield and they send this little wannabe up to the big time.I give the kid kudos for having the stones to step up with Johnston. After looking at this fight again. I wonder what mcgratten and jim cummins a scout are smoking. This kid got destroyed. Like to see him fight Mat martin if he isn't scratched again.

An entertaining bout , Ryan gave it the all American try but came up short against a monster .

Posted by Infidels on February 19, 2018 at 06:26 AM

He got Lomberged

Posted by TeeDubb on February 12, 2018 at 11:26 PM

Curious where the 1.5% came from...just saying

Posted by neums33 on February 18, 2018 at 01:45 PM

johnston is a tough sob with really good size. has gotten better as a fighter every year. lomberg really chucking out of his league to be able to stay up in the show and pays for it bigtime. he got dummied

Posted by hughcares on February 12, 2018 at 12:41 PM

That's a great job by Johnston - Lomberg wanted to go and found out he made a mistake. Always amazes me how people complain about a fight and bring up "the code". Johnston didn't jump the little shit so all is good.

Posted by chiefdon24 on February 12, 2018 at 10:11 AM

Johnston dominates against smaller Lomberg. Johnston has a couple of goals and fights since being called up. I don't know what he is yet, but the Islanders need some toughness in the lineup.

Posted by jawhockey on February 13, 2018 at 09:46 AM

What was he thinking! He deserved to get his face caved in! Leave the fighting to the men.

Posted by AxlRose91 on February 12, 2018 at 01:50 PM

Wow.....beating of the year? Lomberg not so smiley this time around....

Posted by dannibalcorpse on February 12, 2018 at 03:16 PM

Not sure what Lomberg is thinking here challenging Johnston - but I guess he's used to having someone else show up on Sundays to do his work.

Posted by Ullger88 on February 12, 2018 at 10:50 AM

Johnston owned him. A ton of clean hits, this kid can throw

Posted by ironbar44 on February 12, 2018 at 06:44 PM

little guy is tough did well with KASSIAN but KASSIAN is no .ROSS JOHNSTON i hope the kid didnt have concussion issues before .i see 1.2% votes went to LOMBERG i hope i never win a fight like he just did

Posted by ulfy5 on February 12, 2018 at 07:55 PM

no contest. hathaway should be ashamed of himself.

Posted by claire alexande on February 12, 2018 at 12:27 PM

Don't know what the hell Hathaway or Lomberg were thinking. Doggonit pretty much nails it.

Posted by gobolts12 on April 11, 2018 at 12:58 PM

I don't know if I've ever seen a more lopsided fight.

Posted by ChuckinKnuckles on February 23, 2018 at 05:02 PM

Not too much doubt here. 2 different weight divisions however so hard to give Johnston the clean W. I'll give him a W with a *.

Posted by kari takko on February 12, 2018 at 06:22 AM

Lomberg bites off more than he can chew and gets his ass kicked.

Posted by Wooly on February 12, 2018 at 10:19 AM

Too much, too soon!

Posted by iralustmanHF on February 18, 2018 at 08:06 AM

big size advantage to johnston and he took advantage. Lomberg was a willing partner, gotta give him that.

Posted by CanuckInAmerica on February 12, 2018 at 09:00 AM

Nice to see, albeit very infrequently in the League these days, 2 guys throwing 'em. Lomberg more than likely regrets his decision this morning. Johnston is fun to watch with the mitts off.

Posted by EK65 on February 12, 2018 at 09:59 AM

Ryan Lomberg goes out of his weight class in an attempt to stick up for a teammate within that weight class. He gets absolutely demolished by the much bigger Johnston. Win Johnston and TKO. Again, still unsure about how good this Johnston kid actually is.

Posted by Humper on February 12, 2018 at 10:21 AM

Just a brutal beatdown. Ouch.

Posted by fromo on February 12, 2018 at 07:38 AM

The code doesn't exist anymore, Johnston shouldn't have taken this fight. Heat of the moment is one thing, but staged ( no honor in that).

Posted by bigmike53 on February 12, 2018 at 08:44 PM

Lomberg asked and he received. Don't poke the bear if you're not prepared to get stomped. TKO Johnston.

Posted by vandymeer13 on February 12, 2018 at 05:02 PM

Why doesn't Calgary have one of there 8 tough guys from Stockton to back up lomberg?

Posted by tpr1960 on February 12, 2018 at 08:35 AM

That was horrible. Thank God the Isles dress this guy, never make the playoffs with retards like Johnston in the lineup. Good job coach. Oh, another loss.

Posted by dogginit on February 12, 2018 at 09:05 AM

THE NEW ERA NHL TOUGH GUY. Well you have to say Johnston put a beating on the little fellow. Thumbs up for Lomberg to even try. Gotta say what was Johnston thinking to fighting a very small guy like Lomberg even if he wanted to go..The Huge Johnston should have refused. If Johnston wins he looks like a douche for fighting a very smaller guy and Johnston did drop the glooves first. If Johnston lost he would look like a douche.. so what was the point. BOttom Line is Johnston Now Looks Like A Douche. And along with the likes of Bieska Johnston has become the Modern NHL Tough Guy,, Well done Mr. Johnston.
