Can't call a winner when one guy doesn't go... As much as I dislike the Rangers, Dubinsky getting tossed was poor by the Refs

Posted by nait on April 14, 2012 at 10:46 PM

Carkner needs to be suspended and the reff also needs to be dealt with accordingly. also the 3rd man rule shouldnt cover this since the reff didnt do his job.

Posted by bammer24 on April 17, 2012 at 12:33 AM

Love playoff hockey. With that said, I think with Carkner we have found our modern day Durbano. That was not a fight it was a cheap mugging done very cowardly. That is not a Hockey Fight ! If you want to fight ask him to go what that is not old school enough.Face to Face.Just as an update Carkner you were thrown out of the next game and Boyle scored the only goal of the game.Payback.

Posted by montrealSUCKS on April 14, 2012 at 09:52 PM

1. Brian Boyle is the Hal Gill of forwards. 2. Dubinsky shouldn't have been tossed out? Hmm he sure looked like a third man in to me? Video clearly shows him flying in as the third man. 3. This is old school hockey, Boyle messes with Karlsson and then has to deal with Carkner, its how hockey should be.

Posted by mcb798 on April 14, 2012 at 08:02 PM

boyle is a big huge litlle girlie he needs to put in his tampons go sens

Posted by bam932 on April 15, 2012 at 01:01 AM

Not a fan of either team - just wondering about the psychology of letting a guy beat the living daylights out of you. For the love of God stand up for yourself Boyle! No wonder the Rangers lost.

Posted by dave_brown on April 14, 2012 at 10:35 PM

Its almost as if people forgot what Boyle did to Karlsson. As for Boyle, you want to get a few cheap shots in on a star player? Then you should expect to have to drop the gloves the next game. At least thats how it was and still should be. He got exactly what he deserved.

Posted by scorp1on on April 15, 2012 at 04:10 AM

"Rule 46.1 Fighting – A fight shall be deemed to have occurred when at least one player (or goalkeeper) punches or attempts to punch an opponent repeatedly..." So there was a fight and Carkner won it. It was a grade 1, lame-arsed fight, however. If Dubinsky was the third guy there, then he was third man in and should have been shown the gate. Stop whining, announcer. If anything was blown by the ref, it was the roughing call on Dubinsky. Since the pile on was so fast, not much roughing could have occurred. Should have been Carkner gone and a five minute advantage for the Rangers. Also, Carkner did not get a roughing. He got a fighting, an instigator and a game misconduct . Should have also received a 10 min misconduct as the aggressor and the instigator, as the rule states, but that wouldn't have changed anything on the ice.

Posted by AbuNidal on April 14, 2012 at 11:28 PM

Some sweet retribution plain and simple, and well done at that!! This is a great series now that they are going to play on some real ice in Ottawa when all the skilled pugilists on both sides can stay on their feet !! This is what should have been done during game One but alas. I think it was classy of the Sens and Carkner, no point trying to run their star players (Alfredsson now concussed likely), just going after the guy who deserved it most.

Posted by JustinL611 on April 14, 2012 at 08:23 PM

Not voting for either here, but for all the guys who say Boyle is a pussy and needs to throw punches, man up, etc, etc... You guys need to just replay the video and just watch Matt Carkner. Thats the definition of classless. Then Neil goes after Boyle later... thats pretty much the equivalent of Rupp going after Condra or Greening.. Carkner and Neil are fcukin losers

Posted by JoeCritter on April 15, 2012 at 03:58 PM

Dubinsky got thrown out for trying to cut in on the official's job duties.

Posted by hockeyboy10106 on April 14, 2012 at 11:56 PM

i hope rupp gets ahold of carkner that was a coward move by carkner only class shown in this fight was the 3rd man in

Posted by kimo_coyote on April 15, 2012 at 01:49 AM

1. Boyle is the youngest in a large family. His mom probably hit him better than Carkner. 2. Carkner is a classless ass. Challenge and fight. Sucker punch and beat a man when he is down is beyond classless. He needs to be fed a stick. 3. Karlson will skate around with his head on a swivel. Prust should go after him and kick his ass. Two small guys. Then next year Carkner can sucker punch him. No vote on this fight and I am not a fan of either team though I always held Ottawa with higher regard.

Posted by peasant on April 14, 2012 at 08:44 PM

Carkner's the pansy for hitting someone while they are down on their back on the Ice....

Posted by bboyer on April 14, 2012 at 10:45 PM

can someone stick something in these two announcers mouths and shut them the f*ck up

Posted by Bakes923 on April 17, 2012 at 09:41 AM

Carkner is a non-talent punk, hitting Boyle while laying on the ice, granted Boyle needed to fight back, and did'nt,but sensing a lack of respect all over the playoffs this year!!

Posted by probie4life on April 15, 2012 at 07:17 PM

Brian "THE TURTLE" BOYLE!!!! LOL!!!!

Posted by open_season on April 15, 2012 at 12:50 PM

not sure how some of you guys can comment that Carkner was classless? Did you not see Game 1 when Boyle face washed and jabbed Karlsson unprovoked ? This website is based on NHL fighting - much of which is the result of guys standing up for their teammates. Carkner did just that - the complete opposite of classless! If Boyle didn't want to fight Carkner he shouldn't have punched Karlsson in the head when he didn't want to fight. An eye for an eye gentlemen!

Posted by The Mob on April 15, 2012 at 08:57 AM

That's payback #1. Torts ... you're next !!

Posted by Sensfan2008 on December 14, 2012 at 09:00 PM

Best moment of the playoffs. Boyle showed he's a wimp, only going after little guys like Karlsson. This nearly changed the seris. Without it thats a sweep for the Rangers

Posted by Pillager on April 15, 2012 at 02:39 PM

Great job of enforcing by Carkner. Anyone who doesn't love this shouldn't be on this site. Not a mugging, he gave Boyle a glove on punch before dropping the gloves (something that can be clearly seen on the cbc feed). Carkner just didn't take no for an answer, something more enforces should do. Win Carkner - nothing else to call it.

Posted by shane0mack on April 15, 2012 at 04:46 PM

According to the NHL rulebook, "an altercation is a situation involving two players, with at least one to be penalized." So tough luck Rangers, fans and announcers who think otherwise. The referee appropriately exercised his judgment in tossing Dubinsky out for 3rd Man In.

Posted by JarHeadGabe on April 14, 2012 at 08:14 PM

Classy turtle move by Boyle. If he didn't expect this to come, he is an idiot. He needs to stand up and fight for himself or not play that type of game.

Posted by bruins rule on April 15, 2012 at 10:31 AM

carkner the only one throwing punches after he jumped him.

Posted by SEMO_Yogi on April 15, 2012 at 01:49 PM

Mr. Boyle, meet Mr. Karma. Boyle got what he deserved, pure and simple.

Posted by billy jack on April 16, 2012 at 02:42 AM

boyle knew he was no match for carkner and folded like a cheap tent, then lost the game.

Posted by staceyb on April 14, 2012 at 11:18 PM

Of course Carkner won the fight, a vicious attack led by a sucker punch. The Sens did not forget Boyle's assault of Erik Karlsson in game one as Planet Zenon almost went with him in the pre-game skate. As for Carkner, shades of Ron Hextall, see you in November after you've served your 10 game regular season suspension. Hagelin likewise might be sitting out a couple after his elbow to Alfie's head knocking him out of the game.

Posted by boldbilly on April 15, 2012 at 07:53 AM

Plain and simple he got what he deserved. He made the ill advised choice to go after Carlson the game before and there has to be a price paid. Boyle thought he was sending a message after the last game........well the message is well received.......you're a coward. It's one thing to rough up your opponents marquee defense man when there is an obvious mismatch and you look like the man. BUT TO TURTLE WHEN IT'S TIME TO MAN UP.......WELL WE ALL SAW. This reminds me of Marchand against Sedin only PAYBACK was served this time......Let's not hear any code bull$hit here Boyle got what was coming to him for picking on a star........The whole Bruin team needs to be fed a steady diet of this.

Posted by ghjkfdhgfd on April 15, 2012 at 06:18 PM

Carkner

Posted by vangodard28 on April 17, 2012 at 12:47 AM

Dubinsky is SUCH a little bit**, he yells and screams all the time and acts so tough but when he fights all he does is hug. Huge props to Carkner for doing what he had to do by sending a message to the Rangers that you can't do that to his star player. Even bigger probs to the New York commentator for not being a homer and understanding the logistics behind the fight and subsequent penalties.

Posted by kinga101 on April 15, 2012 at 11:01 AM

Although I don't like the way he went about it, Carkner landed some beauties and will probably get suspended as will Hagelin for his elbow, but you never know with Shanahan. Bitz gets 2 games for the hit on Clifford yet Weber only gets fined. It seems like the headhunters are back in business. Hope to see Scott dressed for the next one and see if any Sens will man up against him.

Posted by Kordic64 on April 15, 2012 at 03:33 AM

Totally understand wanting retribution. Would rather see Carkner challenge then drop em. However, Mr. Boyle, if you stir the bees nest expect to be stung. An attack is NOT a fight. Dubinsky got screwed.

Posted by lbx28 on April 15, 2012 at 08:53 PM

boyle had that coming, hes a punk and that was what should happen to punks , todays nhl, that does not happen enough.

Posted by bigdude on April 16, 2012 at 08:35 AM

Okay, I'm late with my vote, but 6.1% of you guys voted for that 6'7" piece of crap Boyle. Carkner didn't jump him, he cornered him and gave him a chance to drop them. And just to be clear, the size difference between Carkner and Boyle is insignificant compared to the size of Boyle and Karleson and, we didn't see Boyle go after Karleson again now did we????? Also, it would have been nicer to see Carkner do that to Torterella. He is a princess, who should just "shut up"!!!!

Posted by gsp on April 15, 2012 at 12:20 PM

Things Boyle over.. Carkner doing his job. He gave Boyle a heads up and chance to dance. Boyle thought it easier to precipitate into a turd and draw a 5 min major. NY's game is built on taking cheap run on small skill players when they're vulnerable to 'wear them down'. They kept doing it throughout the game.. Interesting that Boyle jumped at chance to fight Neil later on..It's just an equation =skill level/importance to team, at least 6" shorter and 50 lbs lighter, NY team needing boost when sluggish. Both players trying to answer to their team needs. Let's not pretend it has anything to do with honor. Projected game 3 starting lineups: Sens: Francis Lessard, Konopka, Neil, Carkner, Ben Blood NY: Prust, John Scott, Rupp, Bickel, Andre Devaux. Get your popcorn ready Jumped at

Posted by THE LAWNMOWER on April 15, 2012 at 02:22 PM

Carkner has a history of making mince meat with Rangers goons. Remember what he did to Boogaard? Carker is probably the toughest fighter in the NHL right now. Google his fight with Shawn Thornton last year. He fed Thornton his lunch.

Posted by peteybrown on April 14, 2012 at 08:36 PM

Good to see Carkner pound on that big pussy. Too bad the league doesn't let teams police them selves. Players have to attack assholes like Boyle, because they won't back up their actions. They feel they can do whatever they want without paying a price. That's why this league has a problem.

Posted by borntobrawl on April 15, 2012 at 02:26 PM

the toss on Dubinsky was a terrible call. the ref should have done something! if i see somebody beating down my teammate i would step in to help too

Posted by The Mad House on April 14, 2012 at 08:11 PM

Nothing here, it's too bad Carkner got tossed I would've liked to see him throw with Rupp. Hopefully Tortorella dresses Big John Scott next game so that him and Carkner could throw, that would be great!

Posted by divinehammer on April 15, 2012 at 11:39 AM

Just joined HF.C to comment on this fight/thread, so here goes ... I'm a big time Sens fan and this was not a fight, this was a 'settling of accounts' - Boyle, 6'5" and 220+ messes with Karlsson 5'11" and 165lbs and the likely Norris winner ... next game ,Carkner 6'4" and 240 sees the opportunity to do educate Boyle on the finer points of maintaining the order of things... Boyle, not wanting to 'man up' and be 'educated' retires to his natural supine position and gets force fed the Ottawa party line ... not a fight, wasn't supposed to be ... props to Dubinsky for stepping up for Boyle, because Boyle wouldn't 'stand up' for his actions in Game #1...

Posted by Slap_Shot on April 16, 2012 at 12:45 AM

You guys don't get it do you. this wasn't a fight it was a message. I think the message was received. I hate Carkner, but he had a job to do and he did it, period. Stop with this "he's classless" crap.

Its hockey....When you mess with a player who isn't a fighter, a captain, or a young kid like who Boyle just started smacking for no reason you can expect retaliation and I for one was glad to see Carkner knock him out...

Posted by sloehand on April 15, 2012 at 05:35 PM

DMM, that's a great idea sending out Scott after Karlsson considering that's what started this junk to begin with. In case you missed game one, when a 6'7", 245 pound guy starts wailing on Ottawa's 175 pound All Star D man, he better be ready to drop them when Sens make their lineup change. By all rights, Carkner should have dummied Gaborik if all things were equal.

Posted by jrjay on April 14, 2012 at 08:46 PM

good job buy carkner teach that bitch a lesson

Posted by Senators12 on April 15, 2012 at 02:34 PM

Boyle gets what he deserves. It's payback for his bichy jabs at Karlsson in game one. Carkner got his team going and Boyle simply got what was coming to him. Good job, Carkner.

Posted by zonahockeyfan on April 15, 2012 at 02:27 AM

Boyle pussed out big time. Carkner UFC'd him and got revenge for the crap on Karlsson Boyle pulled last game. Case closed you cry babies.

Posted by Cash cropper on April 16, 2012 at 10:53 PM

Boyle is a 6'7" cheapshot artist. You can be sure Carkner let him know they were going to go. Boyle should have been ready when he saw Carkner coming and had the guts to fight him. He definitely would have fought back if it was anyone but Carkner. Typical Tortarella player. Pathetic.

Posted by hughcares on April 15, 2012 at 12:13 PM

That is one of the greatest enforcing jobs ever and I hate Ottawa. Cockner sends a message and Ottawa wins the game. Way to take one for the team Boyle you pu$$y. Hopefully NY dresses Scott - exactly what Ottawa would want, put a guy in the lineup that can't skate.. Don't forget what Cockner did to Boog last year.

Posted by EDDUBBS on April 15, 2012 at 03:25 AM

The big bitch had it coming and Carkner gave it to him. He should not be suspended -he should get an award. This 6'7' punk cannot fight, yet he will go after other non fighters...You could see the fear in Boyle's beady eyes. PUNK!

Posted by trailmix on April 15, 2012 at 09:16 AM

I guess Boyle won't suckerpunch Karlsson again.

Posted by misbhavr on April 15, 2012 at 02:19 PM

Posted by Makh2o on April 15, 2012 at 10:34 AM

Boyle tried to bully Karlson... and got his ass handed to him. Good on Carkner for doing this! The only let down in this fight was that Boyle was able to get up after the refs came in to save him.

Posted by sedinfan on April 15, 2012 at 12:28 AM

That wasn't a fight, that was a total sucker punch (one code violation) followed by a second code by pummeling him on the ice. I am not a Ranger fan at all, but did they ever get the shaft on that. Dubinsky and everyone else goes in and saves Boyle from getting killed and they toss him with Carkner? I don't know how Carkner didn't get a match. That referee should be disciplined, he stood there and watched the whole thing and still blew it badly. Hagelin and Carnker should both be suspensed. It seems they don't call a sucker punch to the head a head shot however, and since Shanny let Weber off, I don't think we will be able to figure out how anything goes from here. I can't vote on this one.

Watching Tortorella was the best part of this. It wasn't a fight anyway.

Posted by ChakoSah on April 15, 2012 at 09:22 AM

No fight. No winner. Dubinsky got hosed. No way the gets "3rd man in" when there was only 1 fighting major handed out. Utter BS.

Posted by HawaiiHockey on April 14, 2012 at 08:58 PM

This was not a fight, it was an attack. Glad to see Boyle standing tall and strong at the NY bench afterwards. No way Dubinsky should have been thrown. As the announcer says, there was only 1 man in the fight, and Dubinsky was man number 2.

Posted by EleaticStranger on April 15, 2012 at 09:20 AM

Many people have mistakenly referred to Weber's push on Zetterberg as an MMA move. What Carkner does here, however, is straight out of the UFC. Knock a guy down and start pummeling him with hammerfists. Except in the UFC the guys agree beforehand to fight and they both follow pre-established rules. What Carkner does here is unconsionable. And to call this retribution for the punches on Karlsson is absurd. Karlsson is a defenseman and should be able to stand up for himself. Moreover, Boyle had no bad intent with his little jabs. Finally, if this is an altercation and Dubinsky is third man in, then Spezza should have been third man in on Boyle-Karlsson altercation. When these kinds of calls are made the refs should have to defend themselves.

Posted by jemihami on April 15, 2012 at 06:26 PM

Corker is such a pussy! Maybe he'll get the chance to get beaten up by "Big Nose" Lucic again. Then again, the Sens will not be playing after this series.

Posted by jnk07899 on April 15, 2012 at 12:41 PM

I almost wish I had not seen this. This is the biggest fucking bullshit call I have ever seen!!! YOU CANNOT THROW DUBINSKY OUT. FUCK THESE REFS. FUCK THEM!! I am not even a Rangers fan and this still infuriates me beyond belief. I love what Dubinsky did. He needed to do it. Carkner is one of the biggest scums in the league and what he did to Boyle was uncalled for. You don't pull that shit. You are a professional. Fucking act like it. Fuck Carkner. I am now rooting HARD for the Rangers.

Posted by bhamill on April 16, 2012 at 12:55 PM

One player hitting another is not a fight... A) Carkner was sending a message. B) it was cheep and classless. The two things are not mutually exclusive. Big deal, Boyle and Karlsson got their gloves up previous game, its the playoffs and nobody got hurt or was trying to injure anyone. What Carkner did was jump Boyle and then hit while he was on the ice. It's dangerous and far more disrespectful than anything that happened previously. There's nothing brave or tough about that. Especially when everyone knows what a horrible fighter Boyle is. The guy is absolutely no threat with his gloves off. Even so Carkner did zero damage, Boyle went on to play the game the way he always does, stayed involved and scored a goal. The only negative on the Ranger's part was to fail to score a goal on the 5 min power play. I think it just shows Ottawa knows they are outclassed. They will try to win it cheap. They shouldn't count on the lucky bounces and calls they got last night. I'd love to see the Rangers dress Scott since Hagelin got three games, but I doubt they will feel they need to. The Senators are already avoiding Prust and Rupp, no way they will try Scott.

Posted by DMM on April 15, 2012 at 01:28 PM

mcb798 your an a hole. he was holding his stick when he got suckered punched. Good for Dubinsky. Why don't they go after Rupp and Prust?? I say the Rangers dress Scott and have him go after Karlsson, then we'll see what you loser Sens fans say. By the way, Boyle and Dubi aren't fighters. Prust, Rupp, Bickel and or Scott must send a message to Neil, Konopa and Carkner 1st chance they get.

Posted by W.Plett on April 15, 2012 at 10:36 AM

Didn't the Rangers trade for J. Scott? Time for retribution.... Suit up BJS for the next game.

Posted by TheChimp on April 15, 2012 at 12:25 AM

Carkner with the fucking ambush. No way does he get a win on this farce. He needs at least a game off IMO. Dubinski getting third man in is total hores shit, too. And I HATE the Rangers, so take it for what it's worth.

Posted by GreatMurray on April 15, 2012 at 06:44 AM

No fight. No points for cheap shots or sucker punches.. Carkner is done at least for this series. Scott will dress on Monday...it will get very quiet on the Ottawa bench then.

Posted by esoteric106 on April 15, 2012 at 11:54 AM

I cant understand all these people saying that boyle deserved it yes he hit alfie but he got sucker punched and my bet is it rung his bell leaving unable to defend himself. Also i cant belive that the linesman just stood there watching Carkner pound him on the ice to me that is unacceptable actually so far the whole 11-12 season has been one of the worst ever as far as the officiating goes it almost seems like the zebras are scared to make a call or get involved need a serious looking at in my opinion. and for Dubinsky getting tossed total crap yes there is a third man rule but when their is a reff standing 3 feet away just watching boyle getting pounded i really would like to see that reff get fired And for the record i think anytime you drop your gloves and the other guy doesn't drop his if you start swinging it sould be a instant suspension just like leaving the bench im not saying it should be 10 games but i think it should be mandatory That being said i believe fighting belongs in the game it is what makes our sport more exciting and the best in the world GO HAWKS!!!

Posted by Billdangle on April 16, 2012 at 12:27 AM

Dubinsky had to be the 3rd man in because the referee wasn't doing his fucking job. I am a Boston fan, and this is a disgrace. The official was standing there watching boyle getting his face pounded in on the ice.

Posted by Bagratid on April 14, 2012 at 11:35 PM

I'm surprised at all the bitching and whining about this fight considering this is a site that promotes the fighting culture of the NHL. I don't like fights where one guys jumps another but in my mind this is a classic piece of policing by Carkner. If Boyle wants to target a player like Karlsson then he should be prepared to face the consequences, I wouldn't expect anything different from Rupp or Bickel if the Senators went around punching Gaborik or Richards. As for Dubinsky the fact is he was third man in. That is the rule and there is no room for interpretation. The linesman were moving in but they can't get in the second a fight starts. Every player knows the rule and its been there for decades. Dubinsky has no right to feel hard done by here.

Posted by RangerFan775 on April 16, 2012 at 11:29 PM

Carkner has absolutely no respect. Sens fans need to shut up. A real man in hockey doesn't keep on punching if the other man is down. Carkner is the one acting like a girl if you ask me.

Posted by PKisel34 on April 14, 2012 at 08:14 PM

Wonder what the league will think about a team inserting someone into the lineup for the sole purpose of assaulting another player? He is nowhere near where he is supposed to be and just makes a B line for Boyle. Unfortunately for the Rangers they have already been warned about premeditated stuff and will really pay the price if Scott is inserted into the line up and doesn't even acknowledge the presence of a puck on the ice like Carkner. Not voting for Carkner here.

Have to call this "fight" a draw. Sure, Carkner threw and landed more punches than him, but it is not hard to beat down a guy who is not moving or fighting back. Dubinsky does not deserve a game misconduct. The on-ice officials should have, shockingly, done their jobs and broke up Carkner's attempted prison rape. Dubinsky never should have had to do the officials' job. You were standing 5 feet away from it and staring at it. Cannot tell me that you didn't see it. I will be shocked if Carkner does not receive a suspension. In the playoffs, you cannot tolerate this.

I am a Rangers fan, but Carkner gave Boyle the prison bum rush as pay back for the first game. I hope Carkner asked Boyle to go, before he beat up Boyle while Boyle was on the ice.

So I guess this means that Rupp gets to pound on someone like Foligno or Cowan next period. What a weak call by the refs. If that ref calling the penalty wasn't such a douche he would have stepped right in instead of letting Carkner mug Boyle, Dubinsky wouldn't have had to jump in. What was he supposed to do, stand there like douche ref and watch it?
