All in all, a poor fight so I give it a 3. Finley should have dominated this fight due his size and reach advantage. In fact, late in the fight it appears that Finley has hurt his hand and is looking to the linesmen to end it. Credit to Martin to hang in there, not take a beating and land a few.

martin stood in there and got hit pretty good, finley was sloppy seemed like he had no balance.

Posted by CofRed92 on January 14, 2012 at 11:04 PM

pretty darn good fight.

Thats a fight, Finley gains nothing here , loses the buffalo momentum. Martin cudo's, takes on the biggest on the ice 6 ft 8 in and stands right in there. Finley did zero damage to Martin, tough team kid at 22 he is a big part of nyi. both gamers tho...but martin no fear..love it

Was that a child abuse joke at 0:14? Good fight. Finley's call up and scrap should have all of John Scott's girlfriends wetting their panties on here. Oh, size, oh, oh, oh, size!

Sabres fan: I give it to Finley by a margin. From what I'e seen of it, Finly 's style is not flashy at all, but focuses on using his size, strength, and reach to pound opponents into the ice. Martin did pretty well against a guy that is bigger than... 99% of the human race. Not an exciting fight, but the win seemed to spark the Sabres.

Win Finley. Give props to Martin though. Decent scrap.

Finley with the Win!

Posted by billgoldberg14 on January 15, 2012 at 12:34 PM

Looks like finley pulled martins hair at the 30 second mark.

Posted by chriswabs on January 14, 2012 at 09:38 PM

RFinley gets the win. he landed a lot more punches. used his size as he should have.

Posted by cwschrad83 on January 15, 2012 at 01:54 PM

Finley clearly took the scrap...Not the great fight, but a decent scrap and kudos to Martin for the effort..

Note to Gill, Allen, Mitchell, and that Ranger wooly mammoth whose name escapes me at the moment, etc... ...this is how you use your size, to your advantage. Gained respect for Martin, despite the loss.

Here is some advice for Matt Martin... get your mop cut so you don't look like a long haired girl swinging wildly like someone is taking your Barbies. Instead of punching him, Finley should have given Cousin It a haircut....

that's my boy finley!!!! i get to cover the rochester amerks for the radio station at my college so i get to go to amerks games and go in the locker room to talk to players. joe's mad chill and easy to approach despite being so big. glad to see him doing things in the nhl. hope he's at the next amerks game i go too though.

Narrowest of wins for Finley, listed in the NY Times at 6'8" 260 lbs.

finley gets the win in this fight.

Isles fan but Finely wins......a spirited fight by Martin. Finley just has too much reach.

Posted by kimo_coyote on January 14, 2012 at 10:15 PM

Close, edge to Finley

Posted by fernben8 on January 15, 2012 at 12:30 AM

Despite a Win for Finley due to his size, I really didn't see above fighting skills or technique for him. Martin did ok as well to stay in there...

Posted by Reggie Fleming on January 15, 2012 at 04:59 AM

chaley finley slight edge

Posted by aces50 on January 16, 2012 at 01:08 PM

Was at this game and Finley won the fight for sure. I do believe he thought it would be easier, but Martin gave him a bit of a fight for giving up at lot of reach and wieght. Kudos to Martin.

im surprised martin obliged to go with bigger guy.they didnt land much in the first half but then it was mostly finley who connected multiple times with his right.win finley and 7

Clear win for Finley. Props for Martin hanging in.

Posted by black-n-blue on January 14, 2012 at 09:31 PM

I give Martin credit for fighting Finley, but Finley is too big and strong for him to handle. Finley controlled the fight and, despite not landing any major blows, he clearly won.

JF in a good fight

Gotta give it to Finely. Great first fight for the Sabes. As a Sabes fan, I love this and certinly hope to see more of it! Ata boy Finley.

Posted by kinga101 on January 15, 2012 at 11:20 PM

Finley looks like he might be a welcome addition to the NHL and something Buffalo desperately needs. A lot of big haymakers mostly by Finley.

Posted by GreatMurray on January 15, 2012 at 08:29 AM

Big credit to Martin for taking this fight. But he has the great experience with 65 fights to Finley's 18. Finley's reach gave him the win. But it was a good close affair. Both guys tried to land the big stuff. Forget the jersey jabs and head locks. Good job guys! Finley wins

Posted by zolofarm on January 16, 2012 at 11:59 AM

Finley gets win, but man give props to Martin for standing in against a bigger guy and throwing with him. Good fight with not a lot of shots landed but a lot thrown.

My Name Is Finley and i love to fight.

Posted by EDDUBBS on January 15, 2012 at 04:37 AM

Finley dominates in this fight using his size not to wrestle, but to give him leverage and range and the ability to deliver his right (although he may have hurt his hand), Finley is everything a guy like Andrew Peters wasn't (thank God).

Posted by FightsOfHockey on January 14, 2012 at 09:09 PM

Really good fight edge to Finley both guys did great.

Posted by lbachand on January 15, 2012 at 08:50 AM

Finley wins on points, but had a major size advantage. I would like to see him take a someone him own size. Cudo's to Martin for taking on Finley.

Posted by dannymiller30 on January 15, 2012 at 12:20 PM

I was at this game the sabres needed a spark he gave it to them dispite a loss... But martin hung in there...

Posted by thebigbea55 on January 15, 2012 at 04:33 AM

should have used him against boston..

Posted by TrueBlue26 on January 15, 2012 at 12:52 PM

Please...stop being bias...martin was fighting way out of his weight and height class...he didnt hold sh!t

Posted by CloweStaubi on January 16, 2012 at 05:29 PM

almost gave this fight a draw, but then i remembered i hate matt martin for that attempted sucker punch on max talbot so i had to be a little biased and chose finley

Posted by pvdrummer2000 on March 10, 2015 at 11:29 PM

Finley was chucking bombs... and landing them.

Posted by chad420 on January 17, 2012 at 12:30 PM

looked like Andre the Giant vs Johnny Rodz....except Rodz put up a great fight

Posted by kkdowning on January 16, 2012 at 09:10 AM

Finley wins, but not by as big a margin as you would expect. Finley was a Washington Caps early round draft pick (1st or second round) draft pick that never made it out of the ECHL and now he is playing for Buffalo??
