Rome got the first good shot in then after that Neil basically controlled the rest of the fight. Neil doesn't have the decision by much because it wasn't tha good of a fight to begin with. But, in theend Neil ges the "W".

Posted by jmackisback on February 08, 2011 at 01:21 AM

Very uneventful fight. Rome with the jersey over his head for most of this borefest.

Posted by tattooedkingpin on February 08, 2011 at 02:07 PM

When in Rome, you must Neil. HA

Posted by Caracalla on February 08, 2011 at 01:28 AM

Canucks need Rick Rypien back in the lineup for just this reason. Neal would have a lot more to answer to and not get away with near as much as he does for as long as he does. Rypien is definitely a top middle weight that can handle a lot of the heavyweights and unlike most in this league can throw with both very effectively and way more accurate than most.. I hate watching all these lame ass "fighters" punching each other in the shoulders and elbows and mostly air. COME BACK SOON RICK!!!

blah... Neil hits Sedin with head down, Rome steps up, game proceeds... Neil is hard as cement, and just about as smart as that also...he can pick his spots though, and is a decent enough fighter...the Canucks getting an enforcer isn't going to do squat for them except throw their momentum off at key times...the addition of the likes of John Scott (no place in the NHL) and/or any other 2 shift player won't help. So Neil loses another fight? Sedin still gets run over and another one-use pylon wastes space in the roster...TEAM TOUGH. There should have been four other teamates trying to tear Neil's head off, and every shift after that, he should be keeping his head on a swivel. And that's how it works on winning teams...Bye bye Sens - again!!

Posted by mudman55 on February 08, 2011 at 06:03 AM

How exactly was that not a charging penalty?

Posted by Mcgyvr on February 08, 2011 at 08:34 AM

Perfectly clean hit, then easy win for Neil.

Posted by T-Dawg on February 08, 2011 at 10:53 AM

It's now getting where you can't even hit anybody anymore.

Posted by GreatMurray on February 09, 2011 at 04:26 PM

I guess Rome gets some credit for stepping up and getting slapped around a little. THEY NEED TO LOSE THE INSTIGATOR RULE NOW!!! How did Rome instigate? He skated up to Neil and said; "would you like to kick my azz?"

Posted by Behn Wilson on February 08, 2011 at 12:35 AM

Neil pastes Henrik with a semi-legit hit, Daniel skates by, but then thinks better, forcing Rome... bereft of any fighting ability... to, valiantly, take a beating, not to mention, a, less than gentlemanly, forearm shiver to the ice... ... on their behalf. Sometimes, doing the right thing, can be painful. Especially when your career has continually suffered from the debilitating symptoms of chronic '''Kotsopoulitis''. And yes Dangler-Buddy, I realize he has the biggest heart ever, and that he even won recently... but you know what I mean.

Posted by jemihami on February 08, 2011 at 12:03 AM

Neil wins. The Canucks are in dire need of an enforcer. John Scott and D.J. King are both available.

Posted by b.t.wilson on February 08, 2011 at 08:34 PM

canucks need an enforcer for entertainment and morale. lets say they did have john scott. lets be honest here, neil would've done the same thing and then avoided scott the rest of the game. good guy rome with the loss after a nice big hit. i wish enforcers were actually able to enforce, but as it is, they are for morale and the fans more than anything these days. back in the day a guy like odjick would've absolutely pummeled neil, but nobody wants to set their team at a big disadvantage nowadays. sad, it'd be nice to see guys like neil answer for running another team's star, instead of beating on the toughest guy on the ice, who is no match. i'm pretty down with uh, fag2. sounds about right to me.

Posted by Towmater on February 08, 2011 at 09:12 PM

As much as I hate to say it, that was a nice, clean hit by Neil and a easy win against Rome. Neil is still a d-bag.

Posted by hal29 on February 18, 2011 at 05:22 PM

win neil but by far from a beating. a whole lot of none affective punches by neil and didnt land much when rome's jersey came up and over.

Posted by bruins rule on February 08, 2011 at 07:46 AM

neil gets the win in this fight.

Posted by fernben8 on February 08, 2011 at 12:17 PM

Well, what do you expect if you keep your head down like that ? Great check by Neil. Rome gets an A for justified efforts, However Neil is just too experienced...

Posted by sedinfan on February 08, 2011 at 12:26 AM

Those of you that know me know I am all about the Canucks and of course the Sedin's. Regardless, it was a clean hit which is not uncommon when we have no one to protect our better players. Like jemihami said, we really need an enforcer. Winning is fun, but it is sure frustrating getting the crap beat out of us on a regular basis. There is always someone taking liberty with the Canucks, and no one to do anything about it. Where is Geno Odjick when we need him?

Posted by NotoriousT on February 08, 2011 at 12:55 AM

That's the Canucks for you. Who do they have, Glass? What a joke team in the way of toughness! Daniel might as well of fought, he might become their new fighter too. He wouldn't be too far off.

Posted by DARCY T on February 12, 2011 at 07:21 AM

rome did a good job realizing that he shouldnt let neil to destroy both twins in one shift and stepped in.edge neil + great hit

Posted by Benoit55 on February 08, 2011 at 09:32 AM

Posted by riffraff on February 08, 2011 at 01:18 AM

sedinfan we dont need an enforcer to take up cap space and sit on the bench. end of story. team toughness = success. let sather get fleeced by boogaard and other gms of that mindset struggle to make the playoffs jemihami DJ king = overrated. John Scott is waste of money, isnt dressed regularly and doesnt even have minor league skills as a player. no thanks KnockoutDan; who's your team and where are they ranked? Notorious T; same question for you as KnockoutDan, and that hit by Neil would make you piss yourself and Sedin just shrugged it off. Learn the game and STFU. "joke of a team" you sound like a mongoloid. all nuck haters cant swallow the fact that we dominate all teams with no goon on the bench. yet to a man will stand up to any bitch like Neil. unless your team is pittsburgh or philly, Beat it!

Posted by staceyb on February 08, 2011 at 05:27 AM

That's hockey but how many times do you see a Sedin twin get laid out with an open ice hit? The fight was no contest.

Posted by gmann14 on February 08, 2011 at 08:21 AM

neil is a dirtbag. if the canucks are going to go deep in the playoffs they have to get tougher, being "team tough" is the same as saying "ya were a team of pussy"s"!!!!

Posted by msaw1125 on February 08, 2011 at 09:05 PM

I always find it funny when after a clean hit someone needs to challenge the player who dished out the clean hit, receive an Instigator penalty, and get their arse kicked! That Sedin boy thought he was playing back in Europe where you can skate around the rink with your head down and not pay the price for it. You've got to love the North American style of hockey!

Posted by samslam on February 08, 2011 at 10:09 PM

great hit on sedin ---- it is too bad it has come to the point that you have to fight after a hard, clean hit --- but still love to watch the scraps.

Posted by orr4president on February 08, 2011 at 04:07 AM

@riffraff Stop sucking off the nucks, people are allowed an opinion and yours is no better than theirs, oh and btw, when did the nucks last win the cup?? Props to Rome in an easy fight for Neil

Posted by AZfromNJ on February 08, 2011 at 12:42 AM

do the Canucks ever win fights? Win Neil.

Posted by KnockoutDan on February 08, 2011 at 12:35 AM

Clean hit by Neil, Rome not in the same weight class..... Early exit from the playoff again for the Canucks without an enforcer !!!

Posted by Jordybats99 on February 26, 2016 at 05:28 PM

Win Chris Neil.

Posted by ChiefJerseyJab on February 08, 2011 at 08:44 AM

Keep your head up! Nice hit, good scrap. Solid 5.

Posted by tyrone on February 08, 2011 at 01:38 PM

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...........anytime you can flatten a Sedin Sister, it's a good thing. In fact, anytime you can flatten a [email protected] Canuck, it's a good thing. HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA......

Posted by RCKR24 on February 09, 2011 at 10:10 AM

Since when did a good solid hit mean that you have to fight over it? I am tired of everyone getting all up in arms about it. This hockey. You hit in hockey. And if your team captain can't take it then maybe he shouldn't be on the ice.

Posted by brody005 on February 08, 2011 at 08:33 AM

Just can't hit in the NHL (NO HITTING LEAGUE) anymore... To many Euro's can't take a hit. Clean hit good job Neil!!!

Posted by Bluetiedown44 on February 08, 2011 at 10:41 PM

Neil hits, then stares around waiting for five seconds for someone to come after him. Rome does step up, Neil punishes him, and Rome gets the extra. Lots of fans hate Neil, the hit was clean and the staring around bush, but it was effective. He nearly got Daniel Sedin to take a slashing penalty after watching his brother get smashed, wouldn't you want to take Daniel Sedin off the ice ifyou are down by two goals? Talk about "Learn the game", agitators try to take great players off the ice and off their game, that's what Neil was doing, we may not like it but it's his job. Glad I can talk about Hockey and Fights on this site without permission from riffraff.

Posted by tocchetblue on February 08, 2011 at 06:48 AM

got to love Rome sticking up for his teammate.

Posted by AbuNidal on February 08, 2011 at 10:21 AM

great hit, nothing fight. That last forearm was not meant for Rome, but to stop forward momentum towards the ice (by using aaron as a nice little cushion).

Posted by tville23 on February 08, 2011 at 11:34 PM

Classic comments by riffraff. You might want to check the Blackhawks for "team toughness", a major contributor to their holding Lord Stanley's Cup. And no matter how good the 'Nucks are in the regular season, the tent is quickly folded in the post-season, frequently due to the actions of the aforementioned Cup champions.

Posted by piney on February 08, 2011 at 04:28 PM

neil wins a 4

Posted by Nesquik on February 08, 2011 at 02:40 AM

Why do people think the Canucks need an enforcer? The idea of hockey is to score goals and wing games and not necessarily to fight. Do you really think that Neil wouldn't have taken that hit if the Canucks still had Hordichuk or a DJ King?

The Fall of Rome

Posted by claire alexande on February 08, 2011 at 01:58 AM

As usual, Nuck gets head handed to him. No biggie in and of itself , but the lack of discipline displayed by Rome is indicative of the arrogance that could well do the Canucks as a team in. Henrik was running around with his head down, he got nailed with a perfectly clean hit, and he was OK after three or four seconds. Get over it and stop acting like tuff guys for no reason. Against a decent team the extra minor and putting your team way down in number of d-men could have had consequences. Funniest thing of all was the Nuck bench banging their sticks and carrying on like a gang of pansies. Haven't seen that since the last time Rypien or Bieksa got thumped.

Posted by PigIron on February 11, 2011 at 09:08 PM

I don't know Rome - but he got schooled in this one;

Posted by durka on February 08, 2011 at 12:51 AM

great hit followed by rome gettin beat down. love it

Posted by Spazemunky on February 08, 2011 at 04:15 AM

When keeping it real goes wrong.

Posted by FHgrad99 on February 08, 2011 at 02:25 AM

Rome stood up for a teammate but Neil was in complete control of this one. Neil with a pretty decisive win here.

Posted by pvdrummer2000 on March 01, 2015 at 03:02 AM

neil annihilated rome

Posted by hok1n on February 08, 2011 at 08:44 AM

mudman55. How exactly was it charging. Never left his feet, and didn't take strides at an unexpecting player. He checked someone who forgot to look up at center ice with the puck. LOL

Posted by bigdog2007 on February 08, 2011 at 01:03 AM

[email protected] Odjick! Loved him. I think the hit was legal. The "nucks" need a good heavyweight. Isn't McGrattan in the minors? Scott would be a good addition.
