Standard Saturday

Saturday night’s slate of games sparked a total of 8 fights in 12 contests – a somewhat active night but nothing too crazy. The closest chance of a blowup came in the closing moments of Flames–Jackets, where Jason Chimera was on the receiving end of back-to-back checks from Eric Nystrom and Wayne Primeau. Chimera fought Nystrom in a spirited scrap and Primeau dropped the gloves with Mike Commodore but the two only received double roughings. Brandon Prust and Jared Boll also exchanged punches in the game.

It took a few years but Derek Boogaard and Darcy Hordichuk finally introduced themselves to each other in Wild–Canucks. Unfortunately, their heavyweight bout didn’t last very long. Neither did a first period bout between Ryan Craig and Arron Asham in Lightning–Flyers, however the two tried it again in the second with better results.

Other fights from last night included Darren McCarty getting busy with David Clarkson, B.J. Crombeen and Ryane Clowe trading bombs, and Barret Jackman trying his hand against Sean O’Donnell. The lone scrap from Friday’s action featured Brian Sutherby defeating Philippe Boucher.
