There is a reflex action with the arm just like when the doctor hits your knee with that little hammer, the elbow has to come up (unless you have some injury or neurological problem. Insert your own neurological problem joke here). Phaneuf's hit was on a guy who was stick handling. Phaneuf used his shoulder then after the hit his elbow natural came up. On the other hand, you don't want your best guys taking lots of hit like that, so Spezza did what he had to do. Was there nobody else on the ice better than Spezza?

Hit was a 9. Phaneuf is a big dude and that my fellow fight fans was all shoulder. Being who he is though, I'd say its going to go about 60/40 with the argument of shoulder/elbow. However, either way you call it, great job by Spezza to get in there the way he did, I don't think either of them really landed a flush shot so I'm calling it a draw and a 3.

Credit to Spezza for stepping up. Draw

Hard hit by Phaneuf: Rang Heatley's bell, and it looked clean to me. Finally some emotion by Spezza, but Phaneuf handled him easily.

nothing at all going on here. Nice of Spezza to step in but it wasn't necessary. That was a great, clean hit by Phaneuf. All shoulder.

Regardless of the FACT that Phaneuf is a punk, it was all shoulder. Didn't see much of a fight. Draw and a 2

Not a real smart move by Spezza, but got to give him props for stepping up for his teammate. He should have let one of the tough guys get a hold of Phaneuf

Sam1410 - Only one guy here said it was an elbow, and he was trying to defend Boogaard (even if he was way off). Isn't there anybody else on the Ottawa team who could go after Phaneuf, if anyone felt it neccesary?

phaneuf gets the huge clean hit, the elbow never touches...then he beats up spezza in a short fight.

Give spezza credit for sticking up for a teammate. Not much of a fight though.

"Let Phaneuf know its not going to happen?" lol, well it did happen and than Phaneuf kicked Spezza's punk ass! I hate Spezza, f#ckin punk! Would have been nice if Phaneuf had landed a few more!

There is one of those "legal" dirty hits. Phaneuf uses the shoulder pad to clean Heatleys clock and the follow through makes it look like an elbow.

Dirty hit that should be penalized and never is. Chris Neil does it, lot's of guys do it and get away with it.

Phaneuf wins the fight, I guess, he landed some shots on Spezza who is way out of his league. The Sens have become the Red Wings of the East with no toughness at all and it really shows when your best player is instigating fights.

Great hit - not sure what all the whining is about here. You'd think people that like hockey fights would also enjoy hockey hits, but that doesn't appear to be the case.
