Dion Phaneuf vs Jason Spezza

No elbow. Phaneuf is not a dirty player. He is a vicious hitter which is a good quality in a defenceman - and not illegal. Ottawa is just trying to find a cause to rally around cause they are an underachieving bunch of primadonnas. Jason Spezza wouldn't scare my grandmother from running at the Sens every night.

There is a reflex action with the arm just like when the doctor hits your knee with that little hammer, the elbow has to come up (unless you have some injury or neurological problem. Insert your own neurological problem joke here). Phaneuf's hit was on a guy who was stick handling. Phaneuf used his shoulder then after the hit his elbow natural came up. On the other hand, you don't want your best guys taking lots of hit like that, so Spezza did what he had to do. Was there nobody else on the ice better than Spezza?

Hit was a 9. Phaneuf is a big dude and that my fellow fight fans was all shoulder. Being who he is though, I'd say its going to go about 60/40 with the argument of shoulder/elbow. However, either way you call it, great job by Spezza to get in there the way he did, I don't think either of them really landed a flush shot so I'm calling it a draw and a 3.

Not a real smart move by Spezza, but got to give him props for stepping up for his teammate. He should have let one of the tough guys get a hold of Phaneuf

Phaneuf's a major pole smoker. Even though you live in that frozen cesspool of a city called Calgary, doesn't mean that you have reason or excuse to be such a douche. Draw!

phaneuf gets the huge clean hit, the elbow never touches...then he beats up spezza in a short fight.

Hard hit by Phaneuf: Rang Heatley's bell, and it looked clean to me. Finally some emotion by Spezza, but Phaneuf handled him easily.

Like they said on NHL Network "when is it going to stop? A good hard though high check and someone takes a run at the guy...Get it clear I donot like Dion Phaneuf, he is a BIG PUNK and "cheap shot master" but this time the hit was good old time hit 'em when they skate with their head down hockey. Again if I didn't make it clear I do not like Phaneuf and oh yeah, neither does Sean Avery.

Spezza wins. He was the only one trying to fight. Anyone who says that wasn't a dirty shot by Phaneuf is probably a Calgarian. I'd love to see one of the bad boys go absolutely postal on old Dion some day.

Great hit - not sure what all the whining is about here. You'd think people that like hockey fights would also enjoy hockey hits, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Way to go Spezza! Dallas should look at this and be even more ashamed of themselfs, Modano especially.

hahah where is chris neil when ya need him? the hit looked clean to me, but wow, send somebody other than spezza after phaneuf if you wann punish him... they should have just waited for a better line matchup to go after him
