The velcroed stick made it interesting, must have felt like punching your neighbor through the picket fence. DB with a clear win.

backes gives his decent/solid punches at Salmela(who isn't a very soft player).
Salmela tryed to throw few back but can't to do much as he hasn't much of experience of fightnign.
D.Backes with clear win.

I like Finns and Finn hockey, but Backes kicked the blood & snot out of him.

American fist tastes good, no?

Backes did well at getting the job done. I don't think Salmela was prepared to get his butt kicked. Lots of throws, a little blood, good fight to see. Even if Samela drops his stick at the start he loses.
Win goes to Backes.
Note on this one: No fight hockey is boring!

Salmela dropped his glove first and did land two decent shots at Backes. After that it was all Backes, but credit for Salmela hanging in there. In this situation it was more about showing up than winning. Salmela didn't back down which gets my respect. Too bad it wasn't Vaananen or T. Ruutu against Backes, then the result might have been a different story...

Maybe that is an american way to fight, when you're not even dropping your stick ; ) Salmela was the first one who dropped his gloves and actually hung in there quite well although Backes is way more experienced fighter than him

Not bad of Salmela being such a soft player.

In World Championships it automatically one game suspention if you drop the mittens. Therefore there usually is no fights in World Champs.

Salmela dropped the glove first, and also his stick in the early part of the scrub. Backes holds on into Salmelas jersey and therefore can not drop his stick. It is Backes' stick, not Salmelas.

That image shows it the best. Salmela is a lefty, and that stick is right-handed.

Anyways, a good hustle by Salmela, who is known as a skillplayer.
