Close fight, Ott has no class. Iglinla has hit people when they are down before. Call it a draw

Posted by Finnsta on February 24, 2008 at 05:46 PM

Nice square-off to start, removal of the gear, Iginla lost his balance, might have ended differently had he stayed up. Everyone jumped on Jerome so hard after his last fight with Moen for not taking off his visor. Iginla is typically very good about his fight etiquette. I'm not a Flames fan, but I would love to have a captain like Iggy. I doubt there are any other captains in the league that will dance with heavyweights with the frequency OR the success as Jerome. Much respect.

Classless Ott...

Iginla Started out Winning heavily. Then he slipt And Ott got some decent ones in once iginla was down. But Iginla was the winner.

Posted by KDOGG on February 22, 2008 at 05:40 PM

wow u sure see alot of that latley guys punching when the other is on the ice that horse crap

Posted by mullet33 on February 21, 2008 at 05:29 PM

Every since Ott broke his ankle last year during the Kostopoulos fight his ability to scrap has all but left him. However, Ott is not there to fight - he is on the ice to irritate. Taken from a site: "In the first minute of the game, Jarome Iginla challenges Steve Ott to a fight - carrying over the shenanigans the two had in the last meeting between these two teams. With all apologies to Steve Ott's offensive ability, that's a trade Dallas will take any day." That kind of sums it up - Ott did his job. Also seems what goes around comes around. I believe Iginla did the same thing to Moen not to mention removing his elbow pads during their bout, a double no-no. On 02/02/08 Ott basically tenderized Jarome w/o any repercussion and cheap shot or not J.I. was the only one who got cut. Never the less Jarome did score the winning goal so all was not lost for the Flames after a back-to-back effort. Due to all these factors I say - draw.

iginila finally takes his helmet off and so ott shows his appreciation to this gracious act by punching iginla when he's down? pathetic.

Posted by iceman88 on February 25, 2008 at 01:19 PM

Ott is a biatch! I hate Iginla but atleast he is respectful when he fights what is this crap with guys throwing punches after the other goes down. I didnt mind seeing it happen to Iginla, but its still not right

Posted by Sam1410 on February 21, 2008 at 03:31 PM

Not much of a scrap - Iginla was the only one that landed while they were standing and Ott threw 4 punches while Iggy was down. I called it a draw. It will be very interesting what happens next time they meet. I'm surprised Godard didn't try to go with Ott after his classless move of hitting while the other guy is down (especially classless because Iggy slipped and wasn't knocked down).

Posted by acemtydk on February 27, 2008 at 02:34 AM

You cannot give Ott the win! His punk move of hitting Iginla when he's down only confirms the cheap attitude of the Stars.

Posted by flyersfan_92 on March 07, 2008 at 10:04 AM

Ott is a puss, hitting a guy when he is down like that, ooh tough, Iginla popped up for more DRAW!

Posted by Cpams96 on December 12, 2013 at 01:16 AM

Don't even try and say Iginla lost. Iginla os the better fighter and a living legend where Otts only punches were cheap shots when Iggy was down. Keep that curly headed fuck off the ice if he doesn't fight by the code that follows scrapping in the nhl

Posted by JETTA KNIGHT on November 16, 2008 at 01:59 PM

who the hell gave it to Ott? you blind fucks. Iggy hits him a few times, trips and falls. then the coward Ott starts hitting him on the ground. that's BS. open your eyes.

Posted by kellervo89 on March 18, 2008 at 04:40 PM

Gutless move by Ott to throw punches at Iginla once he's down. I would say while they were still up, Ott was just holding on for dear life and would've got his ass handed to him if Iginla hadn't slipped. And the people who bash Iginla for fighting Moen with a visor forget that Moen had just as much time as Iginla to remove his helmet, but he didn't so Iginla didn't bother reciprocating.

Posted by Sabre311 on March 23, 2008 at 06:32 PM

NBA? What are you talking about guy? Peters knocks his lid off any time his opponents comes off, Iginla has ewvery ability to do the same. My question to you is have you played hockey or do you just watch the NHL and NBA because knocking your lid off is one of the easiest parts of the game, especially when fighting and it;'s fogging up.. YOUR dumb !

Posted by chase1 on February 21, 2008 at 08:48 AM

Ott is a classless player, when a player goes down you don't feed him shots.

Posted by razor 32 on March 13, 2008 at 01:41 PM

I don't know how any of you people think that Ott won this fight?? He never touched Iginla until they hit the ice and then he hits Iginla 4 or 5 times. That the bad part of it, he should got his head broke by Goodard for that. Iginla won this fight.

Posted by Eric Godard vs. on February 23, 2008 at 11:50 AM

who in the hell voted for ott, iggy was in control and fell Despite otts efforts and of course ott had to take his cance to get his only shots in, ott was Fortunate iginla fell cuz ott was getting owned when iggy was on his feet Oh and iggy scored the game winner late in the 3 leads the league with 8 no one is more Clutch than jarome

Posted by smash1 on February 23, 2008 at 01:42 PM

iginla did exactly the same thing to moen just recently.jerome is a great player but his fights usually arent the cleanest by him or his opponent.win ott who is a duochebag

Posted by chl37 on February 22, 2008 at 02:16 PM

is there a rule about removing elbows pads intentionally?

Posted by Pickle2728 on February 23, 2008 at 01:25 AM

CAL fans STFU! Iginla is as much of a douche as anyone in the league. A lot of history with these two since back in their minor league days in Dallas. Try staying on your skates next time wimpy! Cheap shots were for falling down so easily. WIN = OTT atta boy!

Posted by Heyzeus on November 27, 2009 at 03:39 PM

Ott with the easy win over Inigla..

Posted by trpaulson on February 24, 2008 at 01:29 PM

Ott wins. Amazed that Iginla came out from behind the visor and didn't try to jump someone.

Posted by Gunslinger on February 23, 2008 at 01:27 AM

The fight started honourably enough with both fighters taking of their helmets(and Iggy his visor) but Ott gets cheap by slugging Jerome when he is down. I begrudginly give Ott the edge.

Posted by UnderdogDMG on February 22, 2008 at 07:40 PM

Iginla sux

Posted by Sasky001 on February 21, 2008 at 10:13 PM

Ott with the win. Cheap punches at the end, but they weren't they in a fight?

Posted by wallysy1 on February 23, 2008 at 03:06 PM

Are you all kidding? Watch Igninla fight Moen--his last fight. Iggie keeps punching after Moen is cleary on the ice--over and over again. Why was that no problem? Hypocrites. Amazing...the only classless ones--are you.

Posted by powpow on February 22, 2008 at 12:45 PM

Regadless of the fight outcome...why the hell would you want to get Iggy fired up? Everytime this happens he goes out and lights it up and the Flamers rally around him. Wake up the sleeping giant type thing.

Posted by billy jack on February 22, 2008 at 03:26 PM

ott got him,but my gut tells me iggy kicks his ass next time.iggy takes the visor off against a smaller guy hmmm interesting, when he fought jovo, jovo was the one to iniate takeing the helmets off, alot of non visor guys take there hemut off so it forces the visors to drop theres.but igg doesnt do it first, unless it is the 5;10 ott.

Posted by Spanky_Jazz on February 22, 2008 at 02:34 PM

Ott gets the win, but without any class. Really respect Iginla for getting rid of the visor, too. If Iginla doesn't lose his balance, though, he would have pummeled Ott.

Posted by novisorsallowed on February 22, 2008 at 02:37 PM

I don't care what anyone says, Iggy had the shots at the end coming to him for his failure to remove his visor.

Posted by WV16 on February 21, 2008 at 11:49 PM

the extra shots werent needed. but this fight had MAJOR legs from the last stars/flames game. Ott and Iginla went at it tooth and nail in that game. This was evident from the fact the fight happened less than one minute into this game. Iginla was no angel in the previous game or this game. So maybe some of the normal fighting "rules" gave way to pure passion. And in the NHL fighting scene these days, I'll take a true pissed-off fight over a strict follow the rules fight. these guys wanted to go. the details aren't as important as the result...a spirited bout.

Posted by marinermoose38 on February 22, 2008 at 06:32 PM

I almost didn't recognize Iginla without his visor either!! Good for Iginla! He TAKES A BEATING FROM OTT!

Posted by Ragtop1day on February 22, 2008 at 05:03 PM

When Iginla breaks his hand during one of these bouts, and goes out for a couple of weeks, somebody in Calgary really ought to question why....

Posted by anc2514 on February 21, 2008 at 10:13 PM

Ott kicked his ass. Iginla has fought dirty too many times to count, he had it coming. Ott gave him what he deserved.

Posted by Gambino19 on February 22, 2008 at 06:58 PM

yeah uh... he has a visor on. he at least took his helmet off this time.

Posted by KORPI24 on February 22, 2008 at 12:17 PM

I see why Julieome keeps her visor on most of the time

Posted by roosty24 on March 10, 2008 at 09:40 PM

Iginla was brutal.......anyone who voted him is likely a Flamer fan

Posted by aliciamcphail on February 27, 2008 at 04:26 PM

Personally, pretty much all of you are assholes. Ott is a great player and none of you know what you are talking about. There's a reason they called the previous game these two teams played "The Ott Show"....I can tell you it wasn't because Iginla dominated the game, right? RIGHT! Don't get me wrong, I like Iginla (I wouldn't of spent over 200 bucks on a jersey if I didn't like the guy), but come on. Anymore, the NHL is made up of cheap shots, cheap hits etc....Iginla himself is guilty....and Ott is on the receiving end of a lot of it too....so the fact that he is just doing what EVERYONE else is the league is doing just shows how classes YOU are for saying that he's classless, cheap etc.

Posted by rusty5101 on February 21, 2008 at 08:03 PM

Iginla fell down and he was trying to get up so Ott was trying to keep him from getting up. It was an Okay fight, but I give the win to Ott I would of rather seen Nolan and Morrow fight for Nolan hit on Jere Lehtinen

Posted by pvdrummer2000 on February 23, 2015 at 02:09 AM

The only shots Ott got in were when Iggy was down on the ice. Iginla with the narrow win for landing the only shots while both guys were on their feet.

Posted by pterodactyl on February 21, 2008 at 02:50 PM

Ott showed an incredible lack of class in his attempt to pummel Iginla after Iggie lost his footing. Judging by the 96 percent win by Iggie last time these two went in '04, it may have been the only way that Ott would have gotten a shot in. It seems certain that Ott will pay for this cheap act down the road. Somebody on the Flames and maybe Iggie himself will be feeding Ott some serious fist in the future. As Iginla did against Jovo, he took off the lid against Ott. I suspect those who harp against Iggie for fighting with a visor either have never played the game or lack a fundamental understanding on how quickly these dustups occur. Perhaps they should go back to watching the NBA where their true expertise lies.

Posted by azjim on February 23, 2008 at 02:22 AM

>Iginla fell down and he was trying to get up so Ott was trying to keep him from getting up.< Wow! In other words, he was hitting him while he was down. Punk move on Ott's part. Not exactly classy on your part either.

Posted by uconn on February 25, 2008 at 11:52 AM

I hate those cheap shots at the end. Look for retaliation next time they meet

Posted by hok1n on February 22, 2008 at 11:00 PM

The only punch Ott got in was after Iginla fell, it's not the ufc you don't win for hitting a guy on the ground. Draw. Hey Gambino if you ever watch Iginla he always takes his helmit off if the other guy is willing to take his off, he ain't stupid.

Posted by TatsNyc00 on February 22, 2008 at 05:26 PM

Not a big Iginla fan but I give him alot of credit for taking off his helmet since he wears a visor. Tired of all these "fighters" this season fighting with visors on and nothing being done about it!!

Posted by pocket aces on February 21, 2008 at 01:18 PM

Hey leave ott alone if he didn't play who would we get to see get beat up on a weekly basis.....seriously does the guy ever win a fight that he doesn't do something stupid......basically a human punching bag for tough guys to practice on....i say WAR to ott fighting more...

Posted by WayAbvPar on February 22, 2008 at 04:25 PM

I almost didn't recognize Iginla without his visor on! Maybe he has heard all the rumblings about it.

Posted by NTS1 on February 23, 2008 at 11:26 AM

both guys shed their buckets and elbow pads and start throwing. Ott tries to land a left as they close the gap and iginla fires a hard right. Iginla goes down and Ott lands a number off shots. Too many 'opinions' from some clueless duds out there. People are chirping Ott for hitting Iggie when he's down - the only time you don't is when a guy is down and prone, not when he's still fighting. If a guy is still in the heat of the battle, it's all good. If you stop, you're gonna get caught. You shouldn't even be allowed to review these things unless you've been there before. Last fight Iginla was called a pussy for not taking his visor off - he's the best player in the league and he fights for himself, shut the hell up. Have some respect for the guys who have the stones to actually drop the gloves. Good fight boys.
