I dont think this even qualifies as a fight does it??

Posted by tystik024 on April 06, 2011 at 09:01 PM

@slshbleed, Are you retarded or just blind? that was one of the worst hits that has been thrown all season and Torres deserves a suspension of at least the first round. There was no contact from Torres' shoulder, it was pure elbow. As for the gloves being dropped, it was after Torres tried to get outta fighting and O'Mara gave him no choice after he grabbed him and tried to throw a ounch. If you think that was an acceptable hockey play, you need to watch sportscenter and see what has been going on for the last couple seasons. Stupidest comment i have ever seen on this site.

Bug Eyes proves again he has no class

Cheapish hit. Gotta love the response from O'M though.

Posted by DARCY T on April 09, 2011 at 08:36 AM

it was just attempt to punish torres and it failed.gave it 1

Posted by fridaymatinee on April 08, 2011 at 12:34 PM

smoked him. boring wussy fight too. worse than the Philly elbow for sure.

Posted by Helmut on April 08, 2011 at 08:06 AM

Looks like the elbow was tucked in at impact, he raised the elbow in the follow thru with little consequence to the hit. I don't think it was even a penalty. You gotta keep your head out of dangerous places like ducking down and reaching as someone is closing in on you. I doubt Edmonton fans will call the Police on this one like those silly pukes in Montreal like to do.

Didn't look all that unsuspecting to me... he was raising his arm defensively. Ah well it was a headshot. I wouldn't call that other activity a fight though.

I am... shocked... that Eberle get up from that. What a destructive hit. Good on O'Marra to jump in, but that sucker was a 1. I will be interested to see what the league says about this one.

Hit didnt seem cheap. was a non fight. Draw

Posted by Bbum on April 06, 2011 at 09:15 AM

Fight, what fight? Total cheap shot. This is exactly what the league is trying to eliminate. Torres should be done for the rest of the season and first round of the playoffs if recent rulings hold up. I agree with ogie, it's too bad Strudwick didn't get there first.

Posted by ogie ogiltorpe on April 06, 2011 at 01:38 AM

well that's a suspension...too bad Strudwick didn't get there first then Raffi would be picking up his chiclets...can't believe Eberle got up from that

Posted by shuckthefarks on April 06, 2011 at 02:01 PM

What a surprise....a cheap shot from a Canucks player. Prediction...Luongo cries after the first round of the playoffs....again! PANSIES!

Posted by eryani on April 07, 2011 at 07:47 AM

If Torres played like that while in Columbus he would still be there! Cheap hit! Hope he gets his ass kicked before the season is over, but.........he would probably not fight; would rather give cheap hits to the head.

Posted by nait on October 05, 2015 at 06:17 PM

glad O'Marra stepped up but throw a punch dammit

Posted by bruins rule on April 07, 2011 at 09:05 AM

not much of a fight.

HAHA-saw the names and had to watch. BOTH FORMER FIRST ROUND PICKS OF THE ISLES.

Posted by GreatMurray on April 06, 2011 at 07:28 AM

Good call. Eberle was skating low but Torres took aim on his head and got him...that's not Torres' first dirty play. He occupies the same position of dishonor has Matt Cooke.

Posted by gongermuskegon on April 06, 2011 at 02:37 AM

with todays rules I don't know how you are supposed to hit, the stick was down, he might have followed through with the bow, but i'm calling it a draw and a 2

cory411 you are i.iot!! tahts all

The fight was insignificant, but after reviewing the hit a couple of times, I was getting ready to write a novel about how I thought it that it seemed, mainly, unintentional... and a classic example of the natural, high speed, follow through that can happen during a ''hockey play''. Luckily, SlshBleed did the work for me... and although I'm completely against intentional head-shots... in this case... I couldn't agree more.

Muy malo for Torres, a terrible elbow to Eberle's coconut. I haven't checked the news today but I wouldn't be surprised to see a 2 game suspension come out of this one. I hate the head shots!

Posted by boldbilly on April 06, 2011 at 11:36 AM

CHEAP SHOT NEEDS TO BE A SUSPENSION HERE FOR THE NON FIGHT............ A DRAW!

Posted by fernben8 on April 08, 2011 at 03:48 AM

I reviewed the hit a few times and concluding it was definitely a dirty head shot. Torres had Eberle lined up with no intentions of letting up. I feel Eberle was in his natural (lowish) skating position way before the hit and Torres had no respect for it. Going Draw on the fight. Props to O'marra.

Posted by slshbleed on April 06, 2011 at 01:52 PM

Eberle is 5'10", bending and stretching for the puck. It looks to me like Eberle's stick touches the puck. It changed directions prior to the hit. If you hit someone with your shoulder, there is a reflex that causes your arm to go up. Torres hits him with his shoulder, and after the hit, his are goes up. You can see Eberle's hand come up to try to protect himself at the last second, but it's not in time to help him much. The way that Eberle is approaching the play Torres doesn't have much to aim for other than the head. Is he supposed to pull up and not finish his check? If he does pull up in his own end, it could lead to a goal. Torres also knows that it was a questionable hit and that somebody is going to go after him. He drops the mitts in an instance after the hit. It's as if he was saying, "yea, that was questionable hit, I am willing to pay my fine right now". Eberle is moving at a fair pace. He is almost past Torres at the time of the hit. So what is Torres supposed to do? Pull up? Try to throw a different kind of check like a hip-check? IMO it wasn't a 100% clean hit because it was to the head. Guys play there whole life one way- physical. Now they are supposed to play differently? I am not a fan of Torres, Vancouver or the Oilers. They can beat the hell out of each other for all I care, but how is Torres supposed to do his job there and not put a questionable hit on Eberle? The only thing that I can think of is if Torres spins a little to his right and does a hip check (its also likely better for Torres shoulder). Eberle is moving pretty fast and might be able to blow past Torres if he tries the hip check. Very few guys are skilled at the hip check these days. A bad hip check could make this hit look like nothing. Again, you have guys who have made it to the NHL because they play physical and finish their checks. What are they supposed to do now? Maybe they should make the uniforms out of big fluffy pillows or use those fake Sumo wrestling outfits while they play. Oh yea, I guess there was a fight in there. It was more like a lumber jack competition- Timber! Sorry about the novel.

Folks, I hate to break it to you, but the hit was clean and the league is quickly becoming a joke when divying out discipline. This was not suspension worthy. The league ignores problems and makes examples out of innocent players due to public outcry. Once again, the NHL disappoints. That's it for now.

Posted by cory411 on April 06, 2011 at 12:46 AM

Okay , clean hit for Torres..... I dont care who you are or how young you are.. You cant be going at the puck hard and stretch out for the puck and not consider being hit.. Tores followed thru like some many Oilers did his year and just because its a young rookie, its a cheap hit... Torres did a good thing, maybe Eberlie will keep his head up next time he is going for a puck.. O and the fight, O'Marra is luck the refs came in, someone else would be on the injured reserve... O'Marra is just another Oiler that cant skate!!! And what Torres is supposed to bend down to the level of Eberlie to lay a clean hit... Fcuk Raffi for president!!!

Posted by Bloodbank on April 07, 2011 at 02:06 AM

Torres will get what Doughty got in addition to what Clifford got and multiply all that by two.

Posted by ghjkfdhgfd on April 06, 2011 at 02:06 AM

bad hit

Posted by oilersfansylvan on April 07, 2011 at 02:32 PM

One of the Oilers biggest problems is NO ONE is making garbage like Torres PAY for garbage like that.....TAKE THE SUSPENSION send Mac out and let him do his job...but NO we have to have cream puff coaches and GM

Posted by sedinfan on April 06, 2011 at 12:09 AM

That hit was twice as bad as that one in the Philly game. I suspect my Canucks are going to be short a man starting the playoffs. I hate that crap even though it is my team, Torres had lots of time to let up and knew exactly what he was doing.

Posted by real645fan on April 06, 2011 at 01:38 AM

@cory411 You must be a nuck lover. Clean hit? Eberle didn't touch the puck. Why would Torrez get a game? I'd love to see what your comments are when the same happens to one of your Sedins. Your team is an embarrassment to the President's trophy. 2 losses to a 30th place team that has 6 AHL players, were short 2 players and sat their enforcer. I won't be surprised to see another playoff choke by Van. Oh yeah...not much of a fight.

Posted by Dijo on April 06, 2011 at 09:44 PM

Lousy fight, but who cares? Nobody wants to talk about it anyway. Brutal hit. I'm not a Canucks or Oilers fan, but that was a horrible hit. There is no way anyone can justify what Torres did. He could have let up at the end and he chose not to. He showed zero respect for another player, a young superstar at that. You can't have all the stars getting killed like that. Maybe what they should do is not throw a guy out of the game when he throws a hit like that. Instead, make him play the rest of the game and see how he likes guys taking dangerous runs at him. Let him answer for it for the rest of the night.
