Damn, this sucked.

Another case of homer announcers. Put Godard to sleep before they even locked horns?? Idiots! Both are tough & Godard has proven & earned his stripes,

Pretty even fight, Godard was a bit more aggressive towards the end. But a pretty clear cut draw. Get ready for NY fans to call this a dominating win for Fritz. TEXT BOOK DRAW morons.

Posted by shane0mack on November 27, 2008 at 09:35 AM

Just because Godard held his own against a giant (anyone ever see him beat down on Chara? that was a good one), but that doesn't mean he gets the win over fritz. fritz may have had the size advantage but this was a draw. and speaking of chara, i'd maybe be interested in seeing the slovak go up against fritz because of the height thing, but i think most people know chara isn't a great fighter and fritz would probably enjoy that fight. but boogie would definitely be fun.

Posted by huddles on November 27, 2008 at 10:04 AM

draw, nothing really landed hard

Posted by Shappa on November 26, 2008 at 10:13 PM

Draw, Fritz is definitely beatable, but is just so big that it's going to take a monster to take him down. Boogaard - Frtiz needs to happen. That's pretty much the heavyweight bout in the league right now.

Posted by BROWN - KOCUR on November 29, 2008 at 02:50 PM

DRAW - nobody did anything impressive to give them the win.

Posted by BigJtheCanuck on November 26, 2008 at 11:12 PM

fight could have been much better, draw

Posted by ratm20 on December 04, 2008 at 12:28 PM

it had to be callled a draw. fritz had godard in the beginning but godard came back in the end. draw

Posted by buddyhackit9 on November 27, 2008 at 11:45 AM

Draw. Both fighters were trying to land shots, Fritz more early and Godard more late, with nothing damaging landing for either side. Good on Godard for getting in tight when it looked like Fritz was trying to land a big shot, but it still doesn't make it a Godard win.

Posted by GWL on November 27, 2008 at 01:33 PM

how soon till fritz meets bgl again then we will see

Posted by RykerHC on November 27, 2008 at 05:31 AM

Fritz made a name for himself pretty quickly in the NHL, it seems. A pretty even fight, can't give an edge to anyone here.

Posted by jbaker3924 on November 26, 2008 at 09:59 PM

I gave it a draw but was close to giving Godard a slight win.

Posted by Boogeyman2383 on December 30, 2008 at 09:01 PM

Gotta call this one a Draw

Posted by cg2727 on November 26, 2008 at 11:45 PM

Fritz early, Godard at the end. Call it a draw but with a slight edge to Godard. He scrapped Fritz in junior and schooled him there too.

Posted by TheAsianator on November 26, 2008 at 11:30 PM

Both players connected mostly to each others' helmets. Draw

Posted by nazz on November 26, 2008 at 10:24 PM

okay fight with godard getting a slight edge

Who the hell is voting for Godard? Clear Draw

Posted by Big Little Tank on December 15, 2008 at 12:53 PM

This is an interesting fight......I am surprised Fritz didn't get a nose bleed from being that tall! :D Naw, in all seriousness......I think it went more of a draw. Godard had more thrown, and aside from a couple good ones from the head, Fritz seemed to be really unfazed by the hits. But good overall fight.

Posted by pens08 on November 26, 2008 at 10:05 PM

godard was more active and landed a few more punches but this was a draw.

Posted by dcmac on November 27, 2008 at 12:05 AM

And to think Fritz has a brother in the CFL who is even bigger. Goddard was hanging on taking a purely defensive posture. Even at best.

Posted by Johnny8242 on November 27, 2008 at 11:59 AM

Too many Godard fans on here or something draw at best.

Posted by The Wrecker Fan on November 27, 2008 at 10:22 AM

I was at the game. The Pens were trailing. Godzie wanted to turn things around. I can't see this as being anything but a draw. Don't see how you could say Godzie won the fight - unless hitting a guy in the back of the helmet is considered landing quality punches. Clearly - Fritz won the first round and Godzie did ok towards the end. Not a fight that changed the momentum of the game - Malkin and Crosby did that. Great to see Eric back at Nassau Coliseum - he was well liked when he played here. Fritzie did well - for a guy who just had his third NHL fight. Laraque, Peters and now Godard. Well, say what you will about Fritz, but he sure does not shy away from some of the NHL's best. Can't play hockey worth a lick - but he does provide physical support to the Isles. Gotta keep him up....

Posted by dorkinheimer on December 01, 2008 at 03:49 PM

Slight edge to Fritz

Posted by mcb789 on November 26, 2008 at 10:44 PM

it was a good fight got to call it a draw.

Posted by Enfrcr77 on November 27, 2008 at 03:04 PM

Godard with the only real punches thrown.

Posted by alsport on November 28, 2008 at 05:03 PM

Fritz hits like my sister. He had some chances to do real damage and instead took these little whimpy punches. He let Godard get back in the fight.

Posted by PenguinsFan28 on November 29, 2008 at 03:46 PM

Godard got more hits in, Fritz kinda just held on. All though Fritz did get a few punches in but none really hurt Godard. Therefor Godard with a win but not by much on this one.

Posted by LAKINGSNUT on November 27, 2008 at 04:06 AM

good job by Godard to neutralize the giant! Fritz with his first bad showing of the season. hopefully it doesn't become a trend.

Posted by Leafs2006 on November 28, 2008 at 05:04 PM

These Islander announcers shoud be calling auctions or indian leg wrestling, they sure as hell are brutal at calling games and fights, theyre so in love with the islanders, its sickening, almost as bad as the NESN announcers, decision Goddard! Fritz is huge....

Posted by DARCY T on November 30, 2008 at 05:16 PM

win godard plus fritz looked scared as well

Posted by Jellyczar on November 28, 2008 at 10:13 AM

Godard the edge..... he does well against the giants... no bombs though in this tilt.

Posted by cowesy04 on November 29, 2008 at 08:48 PM

not a great fight no big punches tossed out edge to godard

Posted by wifferste on November 27, 2008 at 02:23 AM

I definitely want for Fritz and Boogaard because these two are very close in size and weight. The Isles play Minnesota on Dec. 19. Mark it on your calendars.

Posted by mike563 on November 27, 2008 at 08:25 PM

edge to goddard

Posted by biggravy on November 27, 2008 at 11:47 AM

Godard with the W. He sure does well aginst the big boys.

Posted by SCOTTSO on November 27, 2008 at 07:29 AM

Posted by brad houghton on November 27, 2008 at 10:03 AM

Godard seems to be great against really tall guys???.....he has owned Boogy, MacIntyre and now beat Fritz in an uneventful fight.....not sure what the reason one thing that helps is agaist all three of these guys he has been the clear aggressor....he seems to think he is going to beat them....more so than when he faces guys his own size like McGrattan??

Posted by redwingrocket on November 26, 2008 at 10:16 PM

Fritz you girl. Bunny repeat punches.

Posted by staceyb on November 27, 2008 at 06:36 AM

Geez the announcers were reading Godard's obituary and there he is sneaking shots to Fritz's head. Gotta give Gods the win on points.

Posted by ZeroCool6687 on February 07, 2009 at 07:33 PM

Godard has fought Boogard 100 times so that size is not a real issue but Fritz should be thankful is is that big.... It was his size the kept Godard from killing him. The fight was a lot closer then it would have been had fritz been Godards size so Ill give the guy credit but again Godard plays Jack (Jack and the beanstock for those who missed that) and takes out the bigger man!

Posted by carts22 on November 28, 2008 at 08:40 PM

godard does not shy away from the big guys, did really well against the boogarrd in the west conference , and now he taking on the ones in the east

Posted by nighthawk walt on November 27, 2008 at 09:02 PM

godard with slight nod, found the best way to fight fritz is in close.

Posted by Big_Goon on November 28, 2008 at 10:31 AM

Slight edge to Godard.

Posted by spencer on January 31, 2009 at 08:17 PM

I know MCB. He was beaten to a bloody pulp by a midget wearing a Ranger jersey. Hence the psychotic Ranger obsession.

Posted by chatski on November 27, 2008 at 11:57 AM

EG stays on the monster and keeps him on the defense.Excellent attack for godsmack....

Posted by DuckHawk on November 27, 2008 at 09:34 AM

Godard for the activity and endurance...Fritz just alot of jersey jabs.

Posted by mikebflorida on November 27, 2008 at 12:43 PM

Fritz early, Godard late, could easily be a draw but Godard landed a few good one's, I'll give it to him. I think Fritz's problem is that he needs to get angry and he'll do much better.

Posted by BattleAxe13 on November 27, 2008 at 11:08 AM

Its hard to tell on this screen, but I saw the game on tv and you clearly see Mitch Fritz say "I'm tired" which I qualify as a white flag. Forfeiture leads to an automatic win for Godard. I think I would give it to Godard regardless, Mitch had it early then Godard took over with a very strong finish.

Posted by Killah_punk on November 26, 2008 at 10:54 PM

Godard win. Just another day in the office for Godard fighting another gaint and winning.

Posted by Dampland on November 27, 2008 at 09:43 AM

This Fritz guy is worthless! Is he another Zack Stortini? HE is huge, yet all he did was try to hold Godard at bay. GODARD wins because he actually threw and landed punches.

Posted by Juha82 on January 06, 2009 at 02:22 PM

Godard with NARROW WIn.

Posted by Rebel Banker on November 26, 2008 at 11:26 PM

WIN GODARD! it's official, godard is the giant killer! boogey, mac, and fritz

Posted by bostonrs555 on November 27, 2008 at 02:35 AM

Fritsy quits, plain and simple and that type of performance is, I'm sorry to say Ob-so- loot-ly Dreadfull.... Fritz goes down a notch on the ranking list.....

Posted by robby g on November 27, 2008 at 04:35 PM

godard obviously the better, but smaller fighter. fritz seemed content to just hang in with the tougher guy.

Posted by Blackhawk23 on November 27, 2008 at 02:54 AM

Godard is the best when it comes to fighting the beasts in the NHL. Its crazy how big the fighters are getting these days. I know it is boring to watch but for the smaller guy dirty boxing is the only way to fight these guys. Godard with the W

Posted by PICKLEHAMMER on November 27, 2008 at 10:29 AM

Goddard worked him over. Fritz is an amazon. Put him in a pepsi ice girl skirt and call it a day. Isles' announcers are such homers it makes me wanna shove powdered glass in my eardrums.

Posted by bruiser11 on November 27, 2008 at 11:49 AM

godard is 1 of the better ones in the east

Posted by blackgoldfan on November 27, 2008 at 07:52 PM

Fritz was winning untill goddard got in close. then goddard takes over and gets a "W". This should put the fritz for champ talk to an end. note to the tuff guys coming out of the minors, this is the best league in the world, so you better pack a big lunch.

Posted by rugby on November 27, 2008 at 12:32 PM

Amazing when a 6.4' 230 guy is made to look small! I think Fritz needs to work on the cardio, he was done after his first 3 punches and the ensuing battle for position. Surprising that Godard went to lefts, which should have been to Fritz's advantage, but that is where Godard got the better of him.

Posted by Black Ice on December 04, 2008 at 06:40 PM

I think Fritz realised he was up against a formidable foe in Godard and decided to bow out while he still had the chance - "Im tired". Godard was just getting started...

Posted by scrapiron wins on December 22, 2008 at 10:38 PM

Great fight

Posted by joeye4 on November 27, 2008 at 08:48 AM

At the outset I thought Fritz would dominate but it soon turned around and I gave it to Godard. Good fight with lots of dangerous punches.

Posted by plum29 on November 27, 2008 at 01:06 AM

pretty solid fight, Godard reminded me of the old hockey scrap where just about everything came off, jersey and pads like Probert.

Posted by crashandbang on November 28, 2008 at 11:11 AM

Eric Godard is my hero! Close fight, edge to soon to be heavyweight champ, the God!

Posted by Daddy-O on November 27, 2008 at 01:46 PM

Nice work by Godard. Thought it might turn into a hugfest, but he was just working in close to negate Fritz's reach advantage. Smart win, thought no bombs landed. Just short jabs.

Posted by bouch19 on November 27, 2008 at 05:41 AM

Glad I see others think eric is the beast master this year! From an oiler fan!! Sorry mac/boogy/fritzy!

Posted by Franchise on November 28, 2008 at 10:27 PM

Fritz early, Godard late. Edge to Godard. Oh, and December 19th, mark it down. Boogaard vs Fritz.

Posted by bluto1313 on November 27, 2008 at 08:49 AM

Fritzy didn't want any more love from the God of War by the end of this one. Slight win to Godard.

Posted by tattooedkingpin on November 27, 2008 at 09:29 AM

Godard gets the W because he landed better shots, and should have gotten crushed

Posted by adambomb13 on November 27, 2008 at 07:10 AM

Godard is THE man. After watching Peters get spanked by Fritz, Mr, Godard sends a memo that he is indeed the "bull of the woods". A close fight though, I want Boogaard vs. Fritz. That should be intense !

Posted by kevindman9 on November 27, 2008 at 09:47 AM

boring ass fight, old ass mccarty whooped godards but fritz' big ass cant

Posted by McCunn8585 on November 28, 2008 at 09:50 PM

Decent tilt, but I give it to Goddard for my vote. Fritz looked like he didn't like those body shots. For a Giant he doesn't seem to capable. BGL sent him to the hospital for X-Rays after a lopsided start just this one. Fritz starts well but as soon as Goddard countered he was hangin on...

Posted by fightmeister77 on November 27, 2008 at 11:35 AM

Godard definitely knows what he's doing against the tall heavyweights. If he was more consistent against smaller opponents he'd be the top guy. In this fight Godard got his left arm free of his jersey and got the better of big Fritz at the end. I'm a little disappointed if Fritz actually did quit.

Posted by b.t.wilson on November 26, 2008 at 10:20 PM

Yeah, I'd have to give the edge to Godard too, ever since he took down Boogaard I'd have to say he's the man. Not my favourite, but still the man.

Posted by bruins rule on November 26, 2008 at 09:03 PM

i gave godard the win in this fight.he was the more active fighter.

Posted by Ceejay on November 29, 2008 at 01:47 PM

"Fritz may put him to sleep" ??? - rockin' him to sleep, maybe,.....

Posted by philabronc on November 26, 2008 at 11:51 PM

I thought Fritz would win easy with the early shots, but Godard came back later. Draw.

Posted by bbrjohnson on December 16, 2008 at 12:53 PM

last I checked a jab to the face is better that a punch to the back of a helmet, still a draw

Posted by muskokadangler on April 12, 2010 at 09:53 PM

Godard Win

Posted by biglite351 on January 13, 2009 at 11:38 AM

Fritz was just trying to take Goddards jersey off.

Posted by wannago_letsgo on November 27, 2008 at 11:05 AM

I give this to Godard, he tied up fritz pretty well and got in close, and only let Fritz land the short range jersey jabs and a few body shots.

Posted by Maggie3and Me on November 27, 2008 at 11:06 AM

What a couple of Beasts. Over 500 pounds of battle bots. Was surprised to see Fritz actually clutching Goddard. Had both hands wrapped around him. Goddard threw the cleaner punches. Edge Goddard

Posted by chad420 on December 05, 2008 at 10:04 PM

EG slight edge...landed harder blows

Posted by ling2212 on November 28, 2008 at 12:27 PM

Godard, won this. Fritz started great, but he stopped fighting early and tried to hold on.

Posted by bigdog2007 on November 26, 2008 at 10:01 PM

Godard more active....

Posted by Barrel03 on November 27, 2008 at 03:53 PM

I give Godard the win for being more active

Posted by steeldragon on March 20, 2009 at 04:59 PM

not really pickin up on the buzz about big mitch fritz, did alright against george, lost to godard, lost to orr, bullsh*t scrap with a middleweight he really hasnt impressed me.definately see some promise,it seems like he lacks a real mean streak, cause obviously he could be a killer.

Posted by pvdrummer2000 on March 02, 2015 at 02:48 AM

fritz looked as though he was going to dominate, but godard came back to win the fight at the end.

Posted by marinermoose38 on November 27, 2008 at 04:26 PM

Godard definitely wins and has easily cemented himself as one of the top 3 heavies in the league, if not #1 since he tagged Boogey last year and knocked him silly..

Posted by rocky7482 on December 01, 2008 at 08:50 PM

fritz had had enough at the end of this one....i love the rocky balboa strategy godard uses against this giant.....soften himi up with the rib shots, then bounce a few off fritz's face at the end....godard's one of the best technical fighters in the league
