From what I could see Westgarth beats the kid, but at least Lain had the balls to stand up and fight a legit heavyweight while Bieksa bitched out and went spot picking as usual.

westgarth took it imo based on what i saw but it wasnt bad 1st nhl fight for a big guy lain.westgarth landed a couple early but lain more than held his own later in fight so i understand draw calls as well..scared bieksa made me laugh

hard to judge these fights..although I might have to give Westgarth a reputation earned benefit of the doubt.. monsterous props to Lain..as if your first Nhl game wasnt enough nerves..seeing the other teams tough guy (in this case second in command) line up with the sole intention of instigating a fight.. I wouldve went for a line change as the puck was dropped..

I guess it's good to see Westgarth wasn't permanently scarred from his destruction at the hands of John Scott several years ago. Thunderstruck!!

Killin did okay in his first NHL shift but not enough to take out Westgarth. I can't understand why anybody complains about putting the 4th lines out to start. Makes for a great opening game brawl doesn't it?

Lot of people picking on Bieksa for not fighting Westgarth and I think its pretty unfair. Would you want to fight a guy 3 inches and 40 lbs heavier for NO REASON? It would be a different matter if Westgarth did something stupid on the ice and a guy had to stand up to him but 2 second into the game? Give me a break. Westgarth wins but Lain didn't embarass himself.

Lain lost but at least he manned- up after Bieksa put on a good show like he was going to step in for him. If Torts was so worried about Lain he should of switched him with Weise who was lined up with a non fighter. This would of spared us the Bieksa turtle.

Good job by Lain. Westgarth is a plug and Lain makes him bleed for going after him. As I said earlier, I had a buddy who's a Calfairy fan who went to the game and he said that Lain won this scrap. Seems funny that The Flamers came in looking for blood and all yet it was all of their own blood that was spilt. Couldn't happen to a shittier team too. Awesome.

Not really much to say about the fight, but can people save the "rookie in his first game" bs. Lain is 6'6, and a fighter in the AHL. He knows how to throw. Also amazing people calling Hartley an idiot. He played Torts who could have easily stopped things by playing the Sedin's to start. Torts wanted this to happen, he had his two tough guys starting on D while the Flames started two non fighters. But Canuck fans never let facts get in the way

Bieksa does the right thing and tries to prevent the kid from getting tossed in his debut, but when all hell broke loose, there was no choice. Westgarth wins the fight. Feel bad for Lain, getting to the nhl had to feel awesome, but the getting tossed 2 seconds into your debut has to suck a little.

Poor Lain...taking the beating Bitchka had coming to him. Funny thing was, Kebby didn't do all that well with the behemoth Smid in any event.
