Lain did really well in this one. Nice 2 seconds of ice time in his NHL debut

Posted by Joe Rock on January 19, 2014 at 01:26 AM

From what I could see Westgarth beats the kid, but at least Lain had the balls to stand up and fight a legit heavyweight while Bieksa bitched out and went spot picking as usual.

Best I can tell its a draw

Posted by staceyb on January 19, 2014 at 06:24 AM

Bob Hartley is an idiot.

blood equals victory ,win lain

After watching how these sissies played against the Kings, I applaud the Flames for this. Tort is a scum bag and the Cunucks got a taste of their own medicine.

westgarth took it imo based on what i saw but it wasnt bad 1st nhl fight for a big guy lain.westgarth landed a couple early but lain more than held his own later in fight so i understand draw calls as well..scared bieksa made me laugh

Posted by pepsigenerate on January 19, 2014 at 09:05 AM

WestGarth with the win here.Bieksa is a little bench bitch. Calgary came and ruled Vancouver.Tortorella must learn! what goes on the ice stays on the ice.Tortorella is showing poor sportsmanship....The big boys know how to handle situations.Good game indeed!!!

hard to judge these fights..although I might have to give Westgarth a reputation earned benefit of the doubt.. monsterous props to Lain..as if your first Nhl game wasnt enough nerves..seeing the other teams tough guy (in this case second in command) line up with the sole intention of instigating a fight.. I wouldve went for a line change as the puck was dropped..

Posted by thepappyline on January 19, 2014 at 04:37 PM

I guess it's good to see Westgarth wasn't permanently scarred from his destruction at the hands of John Scott several years ago. Thunderstruck!!

Posted by BooSanta on January 19, 2014 at 03:16 PM

Killin did okay in his first NHL shift but not enough to take out Westgarth. I can't understand why anybody complains about putting the 4th lines out to start. Makes for a great opening game brawl doesn't it?

westy pops the newbie

Posted by sulley71 on January 19, 2014 at 11:28 AM

Torts is an idiot

Posted by 777Big on January 19, 2014 at 09:02 AM

Westgarth early and Lain, although hangs in there, never recovered.

Posted by dogginit on January 19, 2014 at 08:46 AM

Westgarth with the win, the kid took some hammers but he stuck in there and threw a couple of good ones of his own, What happened to Bieska? What a Pussy.........

Posted by Jfkilgore on January 19, 2014 at 04:16 PM

Finally Vancouver gets a taste of there own medicine. Some team called them on the cheap shots they give. When challenged to man up, Torts looses his mind. Funny classless Vancouver gets schooled and punks out.

Can anyone say line brawl and apretty good tilt here with Westgarth getting the edge!

Posted by PADDY63 on January 19, 2014 at 09:53 AM

Kevin with vthe win

Posted by King of Goons on January 19, 2014 at 04:33 PM

I'd love to see Tortorella kick Bob Hartley's head in.

Posted by nait on January 19, 2014 at 04:55 PM

Westgarth pulled a btch move with Lain and still lost

Posted by Caps44 on January 19, 2014 at 10:04 AM

didn't see much; looked like a draw

Posted by Gruvn on February 05, 2014 at 10:38 PM

Calling it a draw just because. But "Weasel of the Year" goes to Hartley. Make like you didn't do anything, you pussy......

Posted by FaxCap on January 19, 2014 at 10:16 AM

Draw....kid handled the situation well going against Westgarth.

Posted by Great Murray on January 20, 2014 at 06:54 PM

From what little I saw this looked like a draw...I watched game on TV and they didn't show much different. Except for the main event I can only call the rest of them draws.

Posted by M19H87 on January 20, 2014 at 10:02 PM

Hard to see took me a few times watching it over to keep track Lain held his own great 2 seconds of time played Props to him DRAW in my books

Posted by Behn Wilson on January 23, 2014 at 08:14 PM

Hell of a way to begin a career Thanks again there Scorsese

Posted by Jesticle on January 19, 2014 at 09:38 PM

Flamers fans must think bleeding a lot is considered winning... Good on Lain for standing up to the homo-erectus caveman Westgarth. He did fine in this draw.

Posted by vido on January 19, 2014 at 06:18 AM

All I saw was a draw?? Lain cut Westgarth like a surgeon!

Posted by Day4nite2 on January 21, 2014 at 08:17 PM

3 players were leaking blood this night from getting knuckled- Mcgrattan,Westgard, and Bouma. Not one Vancouver player 'gave blood' Just sayin. check this out- http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Hockey/NHL/Vancouver/2014/01/17/SES650.jpg

Posted by Sopel69 on January 19, 2014 at 07:02 AM

Westgarth is 235 pounds and Lain ragdolls him all over the place!!

Posted by Snepts_stache on January 19, 2014 at 03:36 PM

Lot of people picking on Bieksa for not fighting Westgarth and I think its pretty unfair. Would you want to fight a guy 3 inches and 40 lbs heavier for NO REASON? It would be a different matter if Westgarth did something stupid on the ice and a guy had to stand up to him but 2 second into the game? Give me a break. Westgarth wins but Lain didn't embarass himself.

Posted by kkdowning on January 19, 2014 at 10:49 AM

did not see much of this fight, so have to give it a draw. Welcome to 2 second of the NHL. Apparently Lain's family flew up for the game -- kind of expensive on a per second of ice time basis

Posted by travist on January 21, 2014 at 01:33 PM

torterella is a joke which makes him a perfect fit for Vancouver.

Posted by chad420 on January 19, 2014 at 11:31 AM

win Hanson Brother...props 2 the rookie...who mans up...unlike KB Toys

Posted by fight-fan on January 19, 2014 at 12:51 PM

Lain lost but at least he manned- up after Bieksa put on a good show like he was going to step in for him. If Torts was so worried about Lain he should of switched him with Weise who was lined up with a non fighter. This would of spared us the Bieksa turtle.

Posted by devilsadvocate on January 19, 2014 at 01:23 AM

News flash: Amerkfan8 is sleeping with Bieksa!

Posted by Dave Brown HOF on January 19, 2014 at 02:33 PM

Good job by Lain. Westgarth is a plug and Lain makes him bleed for going after him. As I said earlier, I had a buddy who's a Calfairy fan who went to the game and he said that Lain won this scrap. Seems funny that The Flamers came in looking for blood and all yet it was all of their own blood that was spilt. Couldn't happen to a shittier team too. Awesome.

Posted by Phillyfan in SK on January 19, 2014 at 08:36 AM

Not really much to say about the fight, but can people save the "rookie in his first game" bs. Lain is 6'6, and a fighter in the AHL. He knows how to throw. Also amazing people calling Hartley an idiot. He played Torts who could have easily stopped things by playing the Sedin's to start. Torts wanted this to happen, he had his two tough guys starting on D while the Flames started two non fighters. But Canuck fans never let facts get in the way

Posted by Bloodbank on January 19, 2014 at 03:07 AM

Lain opens up Westgarth. Nice showing in your first NHL shift!

Posted by djh700 on January 19, 2014 at 03:21 AM

Huge props to Lain, made Westy bleed like Dusty Rhodes.

Posted by Amerkfan8 on January 19, 2014 at 12:52 AM

Bieksa does the right thing and tries to prevent the kid from getting tossed in his debut, but when all hell broke loose, there was no choice. Westgarth wins the fight. Feel bad for Lain, getting to the nhl had to feel awesome, but the getting tossed 2 seconds into your debut has to suck a little.

Posted by claire alexande on January 19, 2014 at 02:05 AM

Poor Lain...taking the beating Bitchka had coming to him. Funny thing was, Kebby didn't do all that well with the behemoth Smid in any event.

Posted by bigmike53 on January 19, 2014 at 02:48 AM

Kooks like Westgarth gets the win. What happened to Bieksa? He must have heard the dinner bell because he took off!

Posted by Humper on January 18, 2014 at 11:18 PM

From what I could follow it seems Westgarth had an edge in this one.
