Posted by Big Farmboy on March 25, 2011 at 05:00 AM NOT .. Boring fight, Komi should fight someone in his weight class, fighting another 6'4 guy is different then fighting 5'10 player.

Worst free agent signing in 15 years Leaf organization. I cant give him the win here for a wrestle down......Get rid of Komi soon...Burky.

suspension forthcoming blindside cowards hit.. I have one word for Komi--- Looch................ Looch has thorouthly mopped his ass up when looch was a rookie

Posted by hockey450 on March 25, 2011 at 02:24 PM

Cheap shot by Komisarek. Draw, didnt really see either one land anything great, cant give a guy a win for pulling anothers sweater over his head.

Posted by RRSM53 on March 25, 2011 at 08:15 AM

Komisarek typical type of hit from him, plus he finally won a fight only because the other guy was truely overmatched. Komisarek is still and always be a former Canadien puke. He didnt do squat for them and has done nothing more for the maple leafs.

Posted by Blueshirt Dirt on March 25, 2011 at 08:09 AM

That was a really nasty hit by Komisarek. Forget the fight...because it was crap. I wonder if there will be a suspension handed down? I think so. I hate seeing players crawl around on the ice.

Posted by Big_Goon on March 25, 2011 at 04:01 PM

Reminded me of the way Scott Stevens would deliver an open ice hit. It was a beauty (not sure how legal in todays game...).

Posted by Behn Wilson on March 27, 2011 at 07:37 AM

Never been much of a Komisarek fan, but that was one royal pasting of a hit. Good on Gaunce to instinctively react to his fellow player having to follow the red line just to get to the bench, although it was immediately clear that he (Gaunce) didn't have much of a game plan once the swinging started.

Posted by DARCY T on March 26, 2011 at 12:43 PM

good to see young gaunce sticking up for teammate against bigger and more experienced komisarek...gave it 3

Posted by scorp1on on March 26, 2011 at 05:44 AM

Video too dodgy for me to judge whether the hit was clean. If Komisarek had kept his arm down it would have been totally clean for sure. But anyway K with the win.

Posted by dmac1983 on March 25, 2011 at 10:51 AM

Another crappy video. Has this been happening to others over the past couple weeks? Look for Rule 48 to come into play here. @b.t. wilson, you're exactly right. 100% agree.

Posted by mudman55 on March 25, 2011 at 07:34 AM

Gaunce steps in gamely, and gets lit up.

Posted by countejacula on March 24, 2011 at 11:35 PM

To answer the announcer's question, yes it was a blindside hit to an unsuspecting opponent. He should be suspended. Anyway, lame fight with Komisarek continuing the reign of terror on his shift. One significant blow opened a good cut on Gaunce's face which won Komisarek the fight. Shame on Komisarek for that hit though.

Posted by mckendo83 on March 28, 2011 at 09:04 AM

2009 - Legal hit 2011 -illegal hit the rule was changed... sorry to disappoint everyone who loves those hits but they are illegal today, whether you agree or not. It doesnt have to be coming across the blue line into the zone, its blindside lateral movement Win Komisarek

Posted by hughtrain on March 25, 2011 at 10:41 PM

Komisarek with the win, and yet another thunderous hit. Looked clean enough to me. The two announcers couldn't agree, but to me live it looked like it was shoulder to chest., slowing it down frame by frame it was definitely shoulder to chest. Unfortunately for Olver, he had his head down, bad things happen when your head is down.

Posted by lb1631 on March 27, 2011 at 10:58 AM

punk hit by Komisarik hit. That was an elbow not shoulder to chest. Maple leafs announcers?

Posted by Spanky_Jazz on March 25, 2011 at 03:24 AM

Questionable hit. Obviously a shoulder to the head, but it's hard to say whether Komisarek targeted Olver's head with that check or not. Regardless, I don't think the hit's suspension worthy. Unfortunate for Olver that he's hurt, but that's just the way it goes sometimes. Big props to Cam Gaunce for stepping up there, but he was obviously outmatched by the bigger Komisarek.

Posted by tattooedkingpin on March 24, 2011 at 10:35 PM

Komi with the clean hit and the W in the fight

Posted by bruins rule on March 25, 2011 at 08:19 AM

komisarek gets the win in this fight.

Posted by ogie ogiltorpe on March 24, 2011 at 10:45 PM

A clean hit and a win for Komisarek and Greg Millen's an idiot

Posted by RichardsFan91 on March 29, 2011 at 05:50 PM

staceyb: of the scott stevens variety? please, come on...pause the video when the hit happens...its shoulder to chest..and his head wipped and hit something on was a clean hit, nasty, but i think clean, dont even put komisarek in a stevens category

Posted by kimo_coyote on March 25, 2011 at 02:04 AM

Komisarek won the fight. or tussle if you will. Props to Gaunce for doing what he thought should be done. Now my editorial: In today's NHL I see a 2 day suspension. Not that it was dirty hit but old time hockey. I agree with BT's comments. Back in the day and I saw my first NHL game in 1952, players were not padded like NFL linebackers and hits like we see today didn't occur for reason of equipment and the out and out bigger, faster players today. There will hits like that but not the result. I don't have an answer. we won't go back to the "old days" and I HATE to see open ice hits when a guy makes the biggest fundemental mistake in hockey by "lowering his head" abolished or ruled out..

Posted by fernben8 on March 24, 2011 at 10:47 PM

Let's get the fight out of the way...Win Komisarek and props to Gaunce. I feel komi is known for throwing thunderous (yet clean) body checks. Although this one is very borderline as the puck had passsed the Av's forward and i think Komi had time to ease up. Unfortunately, I see a short suspension for Komisarek. This is not good for the leafs as they're fighting for the last playoff spot...

Posted by bloodonyourlips on March 25, 2011 at 08:59 AM

Rare win for Komisarek. Hit was clean, Scott Stevens made a living delivering hits like this, problem is the shoulder equipment truby12, there were players just as fast 20 years ago, maybe not as big but definetely just as fast. My son got a new pair of shoulder pads lately and they are built just like football pads, huge. No reason why manufacturers of these pads can't make them the way they used to be, they worked then and they'll work now. Also mmadced, you call Komisarek a coward but not Lucic, they're both in the same class of idiots that most hockey fans would love to see get their asses handed to them.

Posted by Rngrsfan138 on March 26, 2011 at 09:53 PM

i didn't really see anything wrong with the hit. the size difference makes it appear worse than it is, doubt suspension worthy. win komi

Posted by The DZA on March 25, 2011 at 07:42 AM

I dont think Oliver will be complementing Holos on his passing skills anytime soon.

Posted by mjb_17 on March 24, 2011 at 10:11 PM

Win Komisarek....If that wasn't a clean hit, then just take ALL hitting out of Hockey!

Posted by riffraff on March 25, 2011 at 09:28 AM

agree with bt wilson there was a time when it was "keep your head up" now its "dont have a blind spot" that play was once called a suicide pass by the Dman. if you are a forward you opt out of dealing with a pass like that because you know you are gonna get rocked. I guess the Av player is too young to remember Scott Stevens.

Posted by tyrone on March 24, 2011 at 11:15 PM

Cheap shot. The only people that need to be hit like that are MATT COOKE and JORDIN "the drunken sqaw" POOPOO.

Posted by huddles on March 26, 2011 at 09:31 AM

legal hit, no question about it.

Posted by b.t.wilson on March 26, 2011 at 01:20 AM

Goddamnit... for the record, I was wrong AGAIN about a suspension. But I never said it was a dirty hit, it was a beautiful one. But questionable. Hence the headlines about "escaping" punishment. If you disagree fine, but its preposterous to assume that I've never played the game, or don't understand it. As for needing to have fought in hockey to review a hockey fight... tell me again how many movies Roger Ebert directed. I played hockey for over a dozen years, and I stand by my thoughts that if everyone dressed like Shanahan, not everyone who was freight trained would find themselves concussed. I'm pretty confident the majority who've watched/played hockey for the last twenty or more years would agree with that. Komisarek, 5.

Posted by staceyb on March 25, 2011 at 06:03 AM

Heavy blindside open ice hit of the Scott Stevens variety that knocked Olver's head into the stands and Gaunce went after Komisarek in retaliation. Gaunce lost the fight and Olver has a concussion--not a good night for the Avs. Their season has been a lost cause, too.

Posted by hughcares on March 24, 2011 at 10:16 PM

Great hit and followed it up with kicking the sh*t out of Gaunce. Too bad the d*ckhead Komisarek waited until the 74th game of the year to do this.

Posted by bruiser11 on March 25, 2011 at 01:29 AM

That's about the only fight Komisarek will every clearly win. Stop crying about the hit.

Posted by truby12 on March 25, 2011 at 03:15 AM

@b.t.wilson-Its not the shoulder pads that are giving guys concussions it's the fact that guys are much bigger and faster now then they were 20 years ago. The force behind hits now is greater.

Posted by briggsy on March 25, 2011 at 03:05 PM

Komisarek the clean hit and the win. However if that is not an instigator penalty, then I don't know what an instigator penalty is. Gaunce skated miles with only one intent. TO FIGHT!!!!!! Watch the replay. Not sure why he wasn't in the box. Any thoughts??

Posted by sedinfan on March 25, 2011 at 09:42 AM

Komisarek wins a rare fight but kudos to Gaunce. Based on what we have seen with blinsilde hits, me thinks there will be a short suspension, but who knows anymore. Since it is the Leafs and Brian Burke, nothing may happen as Burkie and Mr. Campbell are rumored to be lovers.

Posted by MidnightExpress on March 25, 2011 at 01:00 PM

If that is not considered a clean hit in the NHL, I want no part of this league. That was a Stevens-esque open-ice neutral zone hit, and to me, one of the best plays in the game. Too bad Olver was concussed on the play, but that goes right back to the debate about the armor that they wear as shoulder pads. Regardless, nice to see Komi out there to play tonight, and props to Gaunce for stepping up for his teammate despite the poor showing.

Posted by MTL450 on March 25, 2011 at 11:14 AM

What was wrong with that hit?!!!!!! Absolutely nothing, don't keep your head down, it's pretty simple. Anyways, respect goes out to Gaunce to jump in their for his player...Regardless of the outcome.

Posted by faq2 on March 25, 2011 at 01:54 AM

clean hit, coulda let up, guess he wanted to run him over... good on Gaunce for stepping up though. Komisarek win, guy crawling on the ice, lose. Guance - who cares....

Posted by Rangerblue63 on March 25, 2011 at 03:01 PM

Komisarek really let up. He could have demolished Gaunce.

Posted by Clark75 on March 27, 2011 at 02:48 PM

Another good hit with a fight following. How Gaunce didn't receive an instagator penalty, I don't know.

Posted by slshbleed on March 24, 2011 at 11:19 PM

Oliver is 5'10" Komisarek is 6'4". Its hard to have a shoulder to shoulder hit with this kind of discrepancy. I guess Komisarkec could have gone to one knee to get down to Oliver's chest level. b.t. makes a good point about equipment. The shoulder and elbow pads have hard plastic exterior. Good for protecting shoulders and elbows but bad when they land flush on say somebodies head. Maybe they should strap pillows on everybody's head. I would rather see a physical game with pillows than to take all the hitting and fighting out of the game. Win Komisarek.

Posted by rocky 1 on March 27, 2011 at 03:18 AM

Dirty hit by Komisarek blind siding the colorado player and Gaunce goes after komisarek but ends up on the short end!

Posted by cigaros on March 25, 2011 at 08:51 AM

I love watching an Av or 2 get a beat down or leveled. what better way to see it done than by a Michigan Wolverine. Call it hating if you like. I hate the Avs and watching them at the the bottom of the West is pure pleasure.

Posted by ThogSmash on March 24, 2011 at 10:16 PM

Clean hit, let's not call everything dirty nowadays!

Posted by teejay on March 25, 2011 at 11:10 AM

Awesome hit, fed it to CG too. Komisarek single handedly messed two guys up. Right on.

Posted by Buckster on March 25, 2011 at 03:28 PM

Long time fan of the site, rarely comment but the idiots have moved me today. B.T. Wilson especially and mmadced, simple assholes who have probably never played the game and definitely never fought in one, it's time for you to shut your festering cakeholes. Olver had his head down and got caught cleanly simple as that, it had fuck all to do with the shoulder pads you poor simple prick . He will not be suspended. B.T thought Chara was going to be suspended as well . Just watch the fights and don't bother commenting on a game you obviously know nothing about. If you keep your mouth shut we'll only think your an idiot why open it and remove all possible doubt.

Posted by gilligan_1821 on March 24, 2011 at 10:21 PM

clean hit, no question. lets all stop whining now. we cant just start suspending everyone for every hit now cause of that chara hit. use some common sense and some discretion.

Posted by mactee on March 25, 2011 at 12:20 AM

Just the fact there is a few GOOFS calling this a dirty hit, means the NHLs puss-i-fication of hockey has already set in. This hit was clean and Komi landed some good shots in this fight. If you dont like it, Fifa world cup is just around the corner P***y F****ts.

Wow, the Komisarek from days past shows up for a shift. The hit seemed OK....technically. Wonder if the league will take action with the recent crack-down...

Posted by whalen7 on March 31, 2011 at 10:23 PM

win komisarek

Posted by Mighty Atom on March 24, 2011 at 10:49 PM

Komisarek is such an asshole. Someday he will find his man, oh wait...?

Posted by rubarb on March 25, 2011 at 04:04 PM

good hit... everybody in the nhl knows to keep there head up, if not, this is what can happen. the winner here is gaunce for sticking up for a teammate. the loser here is the bullet proof shoulder pads, they have to go or the game is going to change for the worse

Posted by Spazemunky on March 25, 2011 at 04:37 PM

clean hit. guy served him up a suicide pass.

Posted by Raoul Duke 708 on March 25, 2011 at 01:00 AM

Posted by kkdowning on March 25, 2011 at 05:18 AM

Komisarek singlehandly dominates the Avs on this shift. I think the hit was clean -- Colin Campbell should ask himself "What would Scott Stevens do?"
