It was a fairly active weekend, yet it was a relatively inexperienced fighter who stood out the most. Jamie McGinn scored an upset over Ryan Malone, hammering Malone with punches and knocking him down.

In his first real shot as a full-time NHLer, Deryk Engelland has proven to be someone to look out for in the heavyweight division, courtesy of big wins over Colton Orr and Jody Shelley.

However, Engelland’s rise up the rankings has slowed down during the Pens’ western road trip. George Parros threw all the shots against Engelland in an extremely quick scrap on Friday and Paul Bissonette took a decision over his good friend on Saturday.

Another notable fight saw Matt Kassian throw punch after punch in his first NHL regular season bout against Jared Boll. The Red Wings also had a busy weekend with three scraps in two games, the most they have had in consecutive contests since November ‘07.
