Everywhere a Fight
Alright, not everywhere. Almost though. Seven fights in eleven games isn’t bad, especially when there are some heavyweight bouts and intriguing matchups mixed in.
Alex Henry continued to stay busy in his return to the NHL, taking on Eric Godard in Habs–Pens. Some Montreal fans have already started to take a liking to him, but it could also be because they’ve been without Georges Laraque for over a month. They may not have to wait much longer as a Friday return is currently pinpointed for the heavyweight champ.
Matt Walker found Zack Stortini early in Hawks–Oilers for the other heavyweight bout of the night. Brad May also dropped the gloves, but stepped down a weight class in order to do so against Nick Tarnasky. Jared Boll grabbed a win in a wild one against B.J. Crombeen in Blues–Jackets and Erik Reitz got into his first fight as a Ranger, taking on Thrashers defenseman Nathan Oystrick.
In terms of unlikely participants, Greg Zanon, who had not dropped the gloves since playing in the AHL during the lockout, found himself being pounded on by Daniel Carcillo in the second period of Yotes–Preds. Also, Vincent Lecavalier did some enforcing of his own, challenging Tim Jackman after Jackman ran into goaltender Karri Ramo in Bolts–Isles.
