Ducks & Canucks Scrappy in Close Game
Anaheim and Vancouver played a tight game last night. Twice the Ducks would take a lead only to have the Canucks tie it up before Saku Koivu scored with under five minutes left in the game to put Anaheim up for good.
Ryan Getzlaf scored a controversial goal mid-way through the second. With the Vancouver players and fans upset, Shane O’Brien challenged Kyle Chipchura off the ensuing faceoff for the first fight of the night.
Minutes later Darcy Hordichuk went after George Parros. Hordi tried to land a huge punch, only to have Parros avoid it and the two get tangled up and separated quickly.
None of the other seven games in the NHL last night had a fight.
Koci suspension coming?
The Capitals are less than pleased with David Koci‘s hit on Mike Green. Quotes from Bruce Boudreau:
“Please, the guy [Koci] has one goal in six years. He couldn’t play in the American League,” Boudreau said. “I’ve faced David Koci a lot. He might be a nice guy—I have no idea. I’m glad he’s making a living. Let’s be honest if this was any [other] game he gets on the ice in the first three minutes, gets into his fight and then he sits at the end of the bench, so what good is he?
“I mean, [for] 15 feet he saw Green’s No. 52 and it didn’t stop him one iota from hitting him in the back and going for his head. I hope they throw the book at him. It was a bush-league hit.”
The incident led to thoughts of whether or not the Caps need their own tough guy:

The Capitals cut Brandon Sugden from the team this preseason. The team let Donald Brashear sign with New York as a free agent. Rumor has it the Caps were interested in one enforcer this past offseason, big Derek Boogaard, but Wild GM Chuck Fletcher wouldn’t bite.
