I didn't expect this good of a showing from O'Byrne, but I'm glad that he showed up against Kaleta who is one of the most annoying players in the league (unless he was on my favorite team, which he is not).
I love how some Sabres fans loved the hit on Pyatt, yet they still whine about the hit on Drury by Neil 2 years ago and whine about the bump on Miller last year by Gomez... typical Sabres hypocrite fans...
BTW, I saw Kaleta play in the AHL in Rochester and he wasn't called the Turtle Princess for nothing. He's one of the biggest ******* in the league, hits and runs, even his own teamates hate him for that . He wouldn't drop the gloves unless it was against a skilled player.
After a solid camp, O'Byrne might just have saved is NHL career with that fight. He started camp as the 7th D with youngsters Subban and Weber right behind and ready to make a push for a place in the NHL. The fact that he finally used is size and his strength to serve a correction to Kaleta in response to a cheap hit on a teammate, just got the Bell Center crowd behind him for the first time since he scored in his own net last year. His new attitude and solid play just got him back in the mix for the 6th D spot with Hal Gill and maybe Paul Mara.
I watched this cheap shot artist run around when he played for the Peterborough Petes. Nice to seem him take the beating he deserves. Hopefully we see this again and again...he runs at guys and attempts to injure and can't fight to back it up.
Great response from a guy that needs to do that a lot more to stay in the show. He's a giant and this pre-season, he is finally using his size and strength to his advantage. The team will carry 7 so he'll make the cut.
