go hardcore fight

Posted by Behn Wilson on December 16, 2008 at 09:01 PM

Two big men, not willing to give an inch, and in the process, fighting to a textbook draw.

good scrap

Posted by Riomouse911 on December 16, 2008 at 10:25 PM

JS had a lot of little scoring blows, RI had a few that scored as well. I was leaning JS when I first watched it, but I'm calling a draw based on the RR trax over Jody's eye when he returned to the bench after this one.

Posted by knuckles28 on December 16, 2008 at 12:39 PM

Great scrap by both guys! Not very many shots landed by either one i'm calling it a draw. Oh and its +6 and raining/snowing here in NS ;)

Solid DRAW

Posted by Gunslinger on December 16, 2008 at 08:40 PM

Very good fight by two of my faves. Lots thrown and yea, a lot missed but enough connected to make it worthwhile. I was leaning Ivanans but after watching again I go with a draw.

Nothing settled here. Draw

If you want to see something close to a 10, b.t.wilson, check out the 2/4/94 fight between Probert and McSorley (if you haven't already).

Posted by ptownskater on December 16, 2008 at 10:56 AM

Shelley got more lefts in. Ivanans landed a solid right. Two heavywieghts who really know how to scrap. Draw. Final Score: Sharks 3 Kings 2 SO

Posted by Crowdpleezr on December 16, 2008 at 10:38 PM

Not many landed. Good effort from both. Love the slow-mo replay. Draw.

Spirited draw

Posted by McDorsal on December 16, 2008 at 02:29 AM

Good scrap. Shelley had some good punches in early but by the end it was close.

Posted by Don Berry on December 16, 2008 at 04:28 PM

Shelley is doing well in San Jose!

Posted by Clark75 on December 16, 2008 at 09:11 AM

Draw. Ivanans will be a Leaf soon I think.

Posted by tyrone on December 16, 2008 at 02:58 PM

Attention all heavyweights. Pay close attention as this is how it is suppose to look. DRAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. Ivanans had the one harder punch, but all in all a draw. Great hockey fight from a former tough guy in Hartford.

Posted by Diehardfan419 on December 16, 2008 at 03:53 PM

Good fight.....very even

Posted by huddles on December 16, 2008 at 09:09 AM

Draw plain and simple

Posted by xsharkiex on December 16, 2008 at 06:57 PM

Good fight. No clear winner, but a good heavyweight scrap for sure.

big time bout..... Draw.... not many players land the bombs, except maybe Boogard.

Draw. Good fight.

Posted by vortases002 on December 16, 2008 at 04:32 PM

Tough to find a winner here. Both hung well. Draw. Ivanans is just plain tough. Shelley looks like the fighter he was three years ago. He must love San Jose.

Posted by Darth Biobi on December 16, 2008 at 08:52 PM

I would have like to have seen that last big Ivanans swing land.

Posted by MNBonecrusher on December 16, 2008 at 11:10 AM

Very entertaining fight. Draw all the way!

Posted by tattooedkingpin on December 16, 2008 at 09:35 AM

Gotta call this one a draw.

Posted by staceyb on December 16, 2008 at 05:28 AM

Back and forth in close, no Peters and Janssen routines with the long range shots--this was a heckuva good fight between Shelley and Ivanans.

Pretty good fight

Posted by sabersfan4life on December 16, 2008 at 11:42 PM

good fight 2 big boys going at it i got say this one was a draw

Posted by BattleAxe13 on December 16, 2008 at 09:32 AM

IF Ivanans would have connected with that one upper cut he may have gotten the win and possible KO. But he didn't and the fight was dead even to me. Very entertaining. Usually when I vote draw its a crap fight but this one was good.

Posted by b.t.wilson on December 16, 2008 at 08:04 AM

Great scrap, have to call it a draw. I'd like to know what on earth would get voted a ten around here, seems like even a real barn-burner will be in the 7.5 range... not that this one was a 10, but a good one no less.

Posted by Big Little Tank on December 17, 2008 at 02:22 PM

Interesting Fight. Hard to call a clear winner, but it looked those two boys had a good one. That 'Jersey Jab' is really common now. I remember using it 15 years ago in junior and high school hockey. :D

Posted by BAAAAANNERMAAAN on December 16, 2008 at 09:28 AM

clearly a draw. Anyone who thinks they can pull a winner out of this is insane...

Posted by kimocoyote on December 16, 2008 at 02:54 PM

Pure and simple good bout by two BIG BOYS draw.

Posted by Hell of a TILT on December 16, 2008 at 10:05 AM

Now that was a "Hell of a Tilt"...

Posted by stich on December 16, 2008 at 03:38 AM

I have to hand it to Ivanans the learning curve was very steep for him being a European player coming over to the bigs here. He would see more action if he were in the Eastern Conference but has a pretty good rivalry going with Parros and Shelley. Ivanans is so big and strong that he is not challenged very often and only a handful of the premiere heavies like Shelley will go with him. Another great fight by Shelley the Canadian Badass is back with a vengeance this year.

Posted by bruins rule on December 16, 2008 at 07:43 AM

great heavyweight fight between these 2 guys.

Posted by no123one on April 13, 2009 at 08:08 AM

Definite win for Shelly!

Posted by mhk on December 16, 2008 at 07:59 AM

Shelley won by 53%-47%

Posted by scooter231 on December 16, 2008 at 08:38 PM

Good scrap, ever so slight edge to Shelley.

Posted by sclaudius on December 16, 2008 at 07:44 PM

Good fight. I actually thought the announcers did pretty well for a change

Posted by stellaartois on December 16, 2008 at 02:48 PM

Gonna give a 10-9 decision to Shelly. He had a slight edge early and i thought held on until the end.

Posted by calitj21 on December 16, 2008 at 03:25 AM

Shelly Shelly Shelly!!!!!

Posted by scorp1on on December 16, 2008 at 09:27 PM

It was even during the first 25% of the fight, then Shelley controlled the next 50% percent, either by jabbing RI in the face annoyingly or by effectively redirecting his attempts to strike back. The final 25% was more even, when Ivanans started using his strength, but he never gets anything suficient enough through to take away Shelley's edge in the middle. If that one uppercut landed it would have been a differant story... but it didn't... so slight edge Shelley.

Posted by bentrod on December 16, 2008 at 09:50 PM

Very close. I think Shelley got a few more shots in for the slight edge.

Posted by Spinner55 on December 16, 2008 at 11:46 AM

I still can't believe that the Oilers passed on Shelley when he was open to the move. That leaves Stortini to protect our skill guys, YIKES!!!!!!

Posted by markshark on December 16, 2008 at 11:59 AM

Shelly got the best shots in. I have to give this one to Shelly even though it was very close!!!

Posted by Clowes ABeast29 on December 16, 2008 at 08:01 PM

Great fight! Shellys back! I want to say draw which it was but im being a homer because you can go either way with the W.

Posted by sj408 on December 16, 2008 at 09:44 PM

Good scrap. I love how Shelley has nothing but high rated bouts this year. Still don't understand why he bleeds so much. strong fighter but man, I bet he bleeds when he washes his face!

Posted by goonsrock on December 17, 2008 at 11:39 AM

Good scrap by todays standards, I'll give the edge to Shelley as he contacted the most and nice style on the left tugs then the right punch.

Posted by gap001 on December 16, 2008 at 03:28 AM

Close fight but Shelly clearly got the edge here. Knocking the helmet off is not easy. It takes a few good hits.

Posted by cali4nia on December 16, 2008 at 03:15 AM

Can't see how Ivanans gets the majority of the W votes here... Did u guys who voted for him actually SEE the fight? Shelley clearly landed more punches and was the more active of the two. Stitches are overated in the NHL because more often than not, when ur in a fight, landing a good punch is 90% luck. Shelley with the clear W.

Posted by mike563 on December 24, 2008 at 04:45 PM

very slim slight edge shelly ivanans hung in there though

Posted by hal29 on December 17, 2008 at 07:38 PM

i give it to ivanans

Posted by lakingsfan19 on December 16, 2008 at 07:13 PM

i give edge to ivanans for the rights at the end of the fight.

Posted by King enforcer on December 16, 2008 at 02:52 AM

Shelley had stiches above his left eye. Head snapping back does not mean the fighter got hit. Sometimes they just jerk back to miss it. Got to count swings that hit and damage. Parros and Westgarth have the reputation of getting hit alot, but their head jerk is dramatized by their long hair.

Posted by kgrave33 on December 16, 2008 at 05:13 PM

Slight edge to Ivanans

Posted by snowave on December 16, 2008 at 01:59 AM

Shelly continues to impress me.. he's really stepped it up this year from the few fights I've seen of him.. at least compared to last year. Ivanans by an edge.. Of note.. The LA broadcast did a quick interview with Ivanans during the 2nd period right after he got out of the box... immediately after, they showed Shelly with a fresh butterfly stitch above his left eye. So apparently, one of those connected pretty good... probably at the .42 mark

Posted by Juha82 on December 16, 2008 at 06:08 AM

good long battle. EDGE Ivanans .

Posted by kamazinsh on December 16, 2008 at 01:46 AM

Nice fight from both competetors, Ivanans loooks like land more and harder!!!

Posted by jodan111 on December 16, 2008 at 01:41 AM

Nice effort by both. Looks like Ivanans lands more better shots to me. But not many more.

Posted by nighthawk walt on December 16, 2008 at 09:26 PM

good heavyweight battle, ivanans with win, landed more and the more effective punches.

Posted by kings0575 on February 03, 2009 at 02:52 AM

did you see that cross from ivans land and cut open shelly face, shelly pretty much gave up after that. ko in my book!

Posted by JJ33 on December 16, 2008 at 03:45 AM

edge Raitis

Posted by pitslam on December 16, 2008 at 10:45 AM

Great fight.

Posted by tortfesor on December 16, 2008 at 04:29 AM

Shelly got a couple in, but mostly a bunch of glancing blows and jabs, but Ivanans got more good ones in and takes it in a very, very slight edge.

Posted by Korab4 on December 16, 2008 at 03:58 PM

Ivanans with the edge, but not by much.

Posted by BigRob1 on December 16, 2008 at 09:57 PM

Another great fight between these 2 tough guys. Slight edge to Ivanans

Posted by brymaster1 on December 16, 2008 at 02:13 AM

ivanans landed harder shots and cut shelley, so ivanans with the win.

Posted by gspistheman on December 24, 2008 at 10:07 AM

Nice fight

Posted by blazers76 on December 16, 2008 at 10:58 AM

Good spirited bout. Draw.

Posted by TheGrouch on December 16, 2008 at 01:34 AM

Good slugfest. Both landed a few and missed a lot. But not bad nonetheless. DRAW.

Posted by probiehawk24 on December 17, 2008 at 04:50 PM

Let's face it, the best fights are between the heavy weights. Shelley needs to start taking control of his fights like he did in Columbus. Taking nothing away from Ivanans though. This guy has the biggest hands in hockey. I wish he fought alot more last year but his hands were a mess. Alot of bombs thrown but none landed. Draw

Posted by dustinbrown23 on January 09, 2009 at 04:04 AM

well... definatley a good fight but i guess draw .. ivanans is my fighter GO KINGS Go

Posted by chad420 on December 30, 2008 at 06:16 PM

draw...real good fight..big ivan has improved

Posted by gmr133 on December 16, 2008 at 03:44 PM

good tilt--two of the toughest guys in the league, hands down. draw.

Posted by tim daddy on December 17, 2008 at 10:36 AM

hey, that was a good one, draw

Posted by Bosoxfan3 on December 16, 2008 at 09:47 PM

Shelley did well at the beginning of the fight, especially with those little jabs the announcers remarked on, but Ivanans finished the fight strongly enough that I'm calling this one a draw... and one of the better draws you're going to see, I think.

Posted by Bigwig on December 16, 2008 at 03:31 AM

good fight, but yeah i agree with tomales, a bigger format would be good for this one, screen is so tiny.

Posted by CAheavyweight on January 01, 2009 at 05:18 AM

great fight... i wish ivanans would have connected that upper cut i love these two fighters

Posted by tomales2 on December 16, 2008 at 02:04 AM

Admittedly, I'm a Sharks homer. But I kept replaying this in order to be as fair as I can be. If it's too close to call, I will go for Jody. But I watched closely the number of times the heads snapped backwards and it sure looked like (I wish that I knew how to watch these bouts on a larger format) JS got the edge by 3 significant blows. I sure do hope that many agree as it's always hard to see your guy out voted. At any rate JS, along with Cote, consistently puts on the best effort. Go Sharks!!!

Posted by The Crow on December 16, 2008 at 05:39 PM

Ivanans with the win

Posted by marinermoose38 on December 17, 2008 at 10:19 PM

Edge Ivanans. This was far from a 7.4 scrap though, c'mon! It was an ok fight at best!

Posted by jcstokes on December 16, 2008 at 08:37 AM

If I had to pick a winner, Ivanans. He got the best shot in. But by the closest margin.
