Oct 11, 2005 Ottawa Senators Zdeno Chara
2pd 13:06 Montreal Canadiens Raitis Ivanans
Ivanans runs a Senator along the boards and Chara is right in the vicinity. The play continues up ice, but the refs blow it down as Chara and Ivanans are circling, gloves still on. They continue like this and then nod their heads when the gloves finally come off. They continue to circle around and have a long square off and go at each other at the same time. Chara throws the first that lands, then they trade a few shots that do no more than graze. The two big men are now off-balance and fall to the ice, but as they are falling Chara lands a nice shot. When the linsemen get in there Chara stands up and gives Ivanans a shot while he's still on his knees. Ivanans was bleeding and had to head to the dressing room for repairs. Report is he lost some teeth and was cut under the eye. He didn't return to the game. Other Penalties: Chara received a cross checking; Ivanans a roughing.

Terrible scrap, a DRAW all the way.

Cheapshot by Chara for throwing a haymaker at a defenseless Ivanans. The actual fight was a DRAW. Nice square off but only a punch or 2 landed, not enough to earn either guy a decisive Win.

i dont see how that was a defenseless shot chara was on his way down and threw a punch. probably gave him the slight edge

Close fight and then a devastating cheap shot thrown by Chara while Ivanans is on his knees being held by the linesman. Here is the link of the video (hockeyfights.com please post to this page): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIZ-0R1FcFA
. I think you can actually see Ivanans teeth fly out of his mouth after Chara cheap shots him. If this happened in todays game, definite suspension and would be talked about a lot especially since he actually put Ivanans out of the line-up.

Cheapshot of cheaapshots! Chara creams Ivanans while the linesman has his arms tied up breaking Raitis' orbital bone. That effectively ended his run in a Habs sweater. I'd love to see Boston play LA soon!

If you look at the beginning it looks like nothing, but if you look at the replay you will see that Chara is the winner.

Ivanans sure picked a big boy for his first NHL fight!

Ivanans first NHL fight I believe and picks the wrong guy. That first shot Chara landed would have dropped many lesser men. Ivanans decides to throw a punch while Chara was on the way down which only seemed to anger the Big Man who delivers his own "cheap shot" to devastating effect.

Win Chara, no doubt about it.

Win to Ivanans because of Chara's cheapshot when Ivanans was down.
